Ran out of the famed 'porchetta'
Ran out of the famed 'porchetta' dish, maybe next time.

Not a "Blue Ribbon" experience
We wanted to try The Craftsman after having many great meals at Blue Ribbon Artisan Pizzeria.
We invited 3 other couples and were very happy to find our table ready but not to sit on very uncomfortable hard low level stools.
Service was great but mixed drinks were disappointing and dinner portions were too small to satisfy.
Will stick with Blue Ribbon until someone tells us things have changed.

We love this restaurant! Neighborho
We love this restaurant! Neighborhood, but eclectic, food was innovative and very tasty. Service was good, though she had to be reminded that we were ready to order- as compared to standing at the hostess stand and watching people, but after that she was on task. The burgers are delicious, the ceasar salad with grilled shrimp, fantastic!

We enjoyed it!
We had a very good dinner - the food was excellent and the portions were generous. The service was very attentive. We will definitely be going back.

Nice Neighborhood Tavern
We live close by, so we gave it a try. Glad we did. We went early (5:00) on Sunday, so it was neither crowded nor noisy. The service was excellent. Food was good, prices were reasonable. We'll be back.

Hits & Misses
We just moved here from La and Westside Tavern is one of our favorite restaurants, so this was right up our alley. The deviled eggs were tiny eggs, overlooked hard egg whites, and the filling was OK. The mac & cheese had a great sharp, nutty cheese sauce but my husband (being the great mac & cheese expert) said bad choice of noodle. The porchetta was fabulous! Heavenly crispy skin & lushious tender pork marbled in melty pork fat. The mash potatoes it came with were extremely bland though, I never ask for salt but I HAD to! My husband got the duck confit which was awesome. But the risotto cake needed salt as well, then it was great. Butterscotch pudding was creamy, caramel, salty goodness and a perfect way to end our meal. Service was great!

Food was outstanding. Very rich comfort food and no apologies. Had the short rib, the ravioli, and the blue burger. Also the yellowtail crudo, and pork belly appetizers. Blue ribbon butterscotch pudding for dessert! Try Blue ribbon artisan pizzeria too-their sister restaurant. Also great.

Bustling restaurant in Encinitas
Went to the Craftsman during Restaurant week & was glad to have made a reservation. This place was packed the entire evening and after tasting the food I know why. The meal was delicious and try have a great craft beer selection. Also the live music really added to the atmosphere. Service wasn't the best as it felt we had been forgotten at times but overall it was great!

Craftsman - During Restaurant Week
It was Restaurant Week so very busy, and when we arrived we were told our reserved table still was inhabited. . .and so I pointed out that it wasn't seemingly so reserved then. . .the hostess rose to the situation and got us another table (after first suggesting a community table--again, not what we had reserved). So, I give her credit--ultimately. Our waitress was very sweet and solicitous. The noisy level is pretty high plus they had live music that amped it up even farther (kind of a small place for live music). The food was good (had the heirloom tomato salad (better at The 3rd Corner) and scallops), and overall the restaurant was comfortable. I would return but wouldn't be avid about it.

My wife and I live close to The Craftsman and we were blown away by this place. The food was delicious and the ambiance could not have been more original. I had the scallops and my wife had the fried chicken, both plates were perfect. We could not be happier that we found such a wonderful place. We plan on making this a regular spot for us.

The food, drinks, and service
The food, drinks, and service were very good. We were a party of six during restaurant week. The only complaint I have is that two people in our party ordered hush puppies; and one guest didn't like them and told the server that they were over-cooked. I think he should have offered the guest another appetizer, but the server (Troy?) said they were cooked the way they were supposed to be cooked. Other than that, our server was great.

We dined at The Craftsman New American Tavern during Restaurant Week; a delightful experience. The corn chowder, fried chicken, scallops and desserts were all very good. The corn chowder was creamy and a bit sweet, very good on the palette. The chicken and scallops were moist and well seasoned, the scallops creatively served on small zucchini cakes. The desserts--butterscotch pudding and s'mores in a jar were both amazing. The service was excellent. Easy to find, easy parking. Highly recommended.

My husband and I really enjoyed our meal. He had the prime rib and I had the BBQ plate. We also had some very tasty duck fries. Sooo coming back! The beer selection was extensive!

Need more Gems like this in N Cty
I didn't like it the first time we went; had some lamb cut that was just horrible but we've tried again and enjoyed it every time since. Went Friday night and it was busy but somehow all that just made it warm and inviting and the ambiance was lively and terrific. Waitress was great. My husband thought the bbq was decent(we're spoiled, go to Phil's occasionally) and I had the tomato fondue risotto which was shockingly good. I think they hit a nice balance between foodie/fancy/comfort food. It's becoming a stand-by for us.
