Even on night two, the Chesapeake team went out of its way to make us feel at home. The knuckle sandwich is a lovely twist on the traditional lobster roll and the sweet pea crostini were a wonderfully delicious surprise.

Best Shrimp and Grits
As a seafood enthusiast, these shrimp and grits were some of the best I have ever tasted. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a flavorful, well balanced entree!

Good First Impression
This reclaimed restaurant presents well and has a thoughtful menu demonstrating creativity and skill. The offerings afford an opportunity to try just about anything pickled - strawberries, onions, etc. Beets Five Ways was a big hit. Dessert was worth sticking around for, with a nicely proportioned chocolate cake and custard.
The restaurant is loud and might make conversation difficult, but tables are far enough apart that you don't feel like you're part of your neighbors' gathering.

Enjoyed myself and will return
I had an overall very positive experience at the Chesapeake. I took my girlfriend here on a date because we hadnt gone out in awhile and wanted to try something different. When we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the management and staff. The choices on the menu were rather limited, but that is to be expected from a new restaurant. There was a trendy, diverse crowd; I believe I saw all age groups there from children to grandparents. The food was excellent, although the portions were pretty small. If you go there, be sure to order a salad or an appetizer in addition to your entree if you're hungry. Overall, the food was great, the service was great, and the atmosphere was great. I will definitely be going back.

uncomfortable high tops
It would be crazy to make a reservation without asking for a table away from the high tops. They are very uncomfortable! And half of the restaurant (about) is high tops. Service was slow, just as much the waitress as the kitchen. But the food was good and the menu was good. Thursday is the kick-back menu from the "old" Chesapeake. Looks like a good room for a private party too.
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The bar itself has plenty of seating and a lively crowd. I wasn't a fan of the flat screen television airing the baseball game, but it wasn't really intrusive to our experience either. The stools at the bar were notably comfortable. After being shown to our table we were warmly greeted by our server and we ordered the "Knuckle Sandwich" and the Shrimp and Grits. The sandwich itself was delicious, but the fries were very very salty. We almost couldn't eat them. The shrimp and grits were wonderful, presented beautifully in a broth with the shrimp head-on. I was craving more grits after cleaning my plate because it was so good.
Overall, good experience. I have a feeling it will only get better from here.

really enjoyed our meal at The Chesapeake - very glad this restaurant has joined the neighborhood! Very sleek inside but still warm enough vibe.....the food was all very good and we appreciated the reasonable prices --- makes it more of an every-day option! Our service was very good - server was informed, friendly and attentive. we'll be back!

A great addition to Baltimore!
The folks at the Chesapeake are doing a lot of things right. The restaurant is beautiful, the food is fresh, and the wait staff is friendly. The shrimp and grits are awesome, particularly if you enjoy a smoky flavor. The Rockfish, although slightly (and I mean slightly) undercooked, was fantastic. Everything was seasoned perfectly, with such a nice crust on the skin. The Oysters could really become the star of this place, especially on Tuesday's when they're only a dollar! As for the cocktails, I didn't care for the Tom Selleck, but their take on a Pimm's Cup was superb. You can tell that they've really put a lot of thought into their bar program. All in all, a fantastic experience for a place that's only been open for a week and change.
6/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
Brunch experience was delightful...great cocktails, succulent oysters with superb migonette, the best shrimp and grits (heirloom grits, head on shrimp, bacon, and a lovely tomato based sauce), and a wonderful menu full of other great options...don't forget to try the cinnamon bun that's by far one of the best in the area. Top that with wonderful service in a very relaxing, pleasing atmosphere and you have a recipe for success. Can't wait to return for dinner. Welcome back The Chesapeake Restaurant, a charming reincarnation done better in its second life.

Everything old is new again
Great food, great atmosphere, great service. A wonderful way to bring back a piece of history. The rockfish stew, the home made pickled vegetables and even the burger were all outstanding. Emphasis on local food and beer was really well done

Prime Rib Special
Cannot beat this Prime Rib anywhere. Good size for two - each morsel delicious and veggie side doubled was great!

Delicious Food - Too Noisy!
This is a casual bistro-like restaurant - not fine dining. Our server, Paige, was attentive & friendly. The food was absolutely wonderful. We started with the pate - delicious! We had the prime rib dinner special for two. The prime rib was served family style–we had to slice & serve the meat - should have been individually plated by the server/kitchen. The prime rib was cooked perfectly–rivals any other steak house in Baltimore. We enjoyed a fine bottle of Nero D’Avola at a very affordable price. Most of the wine prices were too high. Our main problem was the noise. We were seated in the room right off the main entry-only 4 tables occupied-4 empty. The room was stark & uninviting. It was extremely difficult to hear.

Great restaurant, great food
I always think you can judge a new restaurant by how they prepare the simplest things, like a chicken breast. So when I went to The Chesapeake, that's what I ordered. Not only was it cooked perfectly, but the presentation was unique and the sides went with it perfectly. I love the way the restaurant is designed. The whole place feels very open, but not too big or loud. The oysters were amazing and the wait staff was very good. All in all, I'd say it's one of the better Baltimore finds, and I'll definitely be back again soon.

Great first impression
Enjoyed dinner at the newly opened Chesapeake. Service was great, building renovation is beautiful, and food was very high quality. Only drawback is that the place is a little noisy.
7/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice dining experience
My only complaint was that it took too long to get our entrees. The drinks and appetizers came out in a timely fashion, but it was another 45 mins before the meals came and it was a Thursday night. Not sure what happened? Also, the shrimp had the heads on when delivered to the table. I did not like that presentation. The desserts were to die for, one was peach and the other chocolate. A bit pricey for the size of the portions. Everyone in our party cleared their plates, but we were not full. The raw oysters were excellent!
7/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food and service. I have special dietary needs and they were very responsive.
A little warm in the dining area.
Everything else was great.

Our Trip to the Big City
We visited the (new) Chesapeake and we loved the food and the service was great. Getting there is easy and parking is directly across the street. It’s a little noisy but we still had a great time.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is not your momma's Chesapeake
Quite a transition from the old days. It fits well into the neighborhood, and I expect will have an enthusiastic following. Food was very good; staff was very attentive. We are eager to go back.

Very pleasant, good food...great
Very pleasant, good food...great to see another restaurant in Station North.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
New addition to neighborhood
This new restaurant is another anchor for this neighborhood. Station North is a HOT SPOT. This one is here to stay with consistent food quality and varying menus. Raw bar is a great treat. No need to go to waterfront to find good oysters. Love the concept and wish Chesapeake much future success.

Yea! The Chesapeake's Back!
We were delighted that this Baltimore landmark has re-opened and even happier with the high quality of the food and service we found there. We have already recommended the restaurant to friends. Welcome back, Chesapeake!
8/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were really excited to see this open up in the neighborhood. We took some out-of-town guests for dinner and were really pleased with the drink options in addition to the food. We had the prime rib for two, which was perfectly prepared, the vegetable pasta dish, and a hamburger. Everything came out plated beautifully and we really enjoyed the paired flavors. Additionally, we were looking for wine recommendations for our dinner choices and the bartenders were skilled and knowledgeable in their suggestions. Overall, a fantastic experience and, on a side note, the marble bar is absolutely beautiful.

dinner & movie
I wanted to connect with my BFF and we decided on a movie at the Charles Theater. We also wanted to eat prior to the movie. We both saw the grand opening of the Chesapeake Restaturnat on the news. So we decided to check it out. We made a GREAT decision!! The staff was wonderful. From the doorman dressed in his Ravens - purple/black to host/hostess, waiters. Our food was delicious, we enjoyed the meal, drinks and desert. We plan to return!!!
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice to have some other options before a movie at the Charles! But, now that I think of it, this really is the place to be - excellent bar scene (and drinks!), super, well priced wine list, and the food? Let's just say that this is NOT one of those places who has a fancy presentation and no flavor. All our dishes were exceptional in flavor, color, quantity and variety. You need to go check it out for yourself!
8/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
We enjoyed 2 appetizers and 2 main dishes. Each dish was well balanced and thoughtfully put together and created memorable eating experiences. Try the special! We had the gnudi special on its menu debut and loved it. We were delighted by the drinks - and the smoothest Manhattan I've ever tasted!
8/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best food I've had in Baltimore
Everything was superb - we had the heirloom tomato salad, the pork belly, scallops, and duck. Every ingredient was perfect. This meal exceeded our expectations. Well done!
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great to have the restaurant open!
We have been waiting quite a while to be able to dine in the Chesapeake again. We had a good experience, good food, great service, and an interesting setting. Prices were a bit high. Wines especially were expensive. But a Manhatten we ordered was great and priced OK.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice experience at The Chesapeake. They could work somehow to make the internal vibe a little warmer -- perhaps it's a little TOO industrial feeling? I think it would benefit from better lighting, perhaps. We asked for bread for the table and what they brought out was DIVINE. Seriously amazing. My rockfish dish was fresh & good ----- my husband enjoyed the fried chicken but said it was a tad greasy. Our server was very attentive and the host and rest of staff seemed very welcoming.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Definitely worth a trip...
I went twice in a week. The food is really good (a little salty but really good), the service is friendly and warm, and the bar is well stocked. You'll never get better chicken in a restaurant, and my boyfriend said the rockfish was the best he's had in a long time.
The first time I was there, the kitchen was slow. I think they need to allow for that and have some bread or something when they know they are taking too long...at least a drive-by from the server. On a bright note,my friend is gluten- and dairy-free and they made a special dessert for her that was AWESOME. Everyone was really helpful and friendly.
It's definitely worth a trip on its own...or as an alternative to waiting for a table at Tapas Teatro before or after a movie.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
good spot - give it a try
Been twice in two weeks - Tuesday is $1 oyster night all night - good stuff. Salads are pretty fresh and tasty - I had a smoked rockfish salad - excellent. Family also had a caesar and the "regular" salad - both great. Burgers were excellent with good rolls and really good fries. Scallop entree and rockfish entrees were entirely gone and terrific too. Dessert list was so-so.
Perhaps a few more menu items (or an easier to follow menu - sandwiches, desserts and drinks on one side, starters, salads, entrees on the other - i'll bet people miss the sandwiches, etc) would help, but uniformly everyone in my party of six thought the execution was terrific.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Just what we were looking for.
My wife and I were looking for a good restaurant near the theater we were attending. We were able to book a table at the perfect time and got a window seat. The menu was eclectic, the food was very good (I had the steak and my wife had fish) and there is a parking lot right across the street for $3.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
The best lobster tail
The staff are attentive, friendly, and accommodating. We arrived early for our reservation and they seated us right away. This is the first place we've had river oysters. They are sweet, refreshing and very mild. Our second course was a lobster tail stew which was cooked in a light broth with some vegetables and gnochi. It was out of this world. Our desert was a peach pie which was a disappointment. It was heavy and overly sweet.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful meal but small portions
My scallops and fried green tomatos were great but only 4 scallops and two fried green tomatos for 20 something dollars? This is not Manhattan! However it did leave room for dessert a peach summer creation which was to die for. Both times I've been to the Chesapeake I've been seated in a small windowless room just beyond the entrance. I'm tired of it and will ask for a table by the windows next time. Still all things considered it was a fabulous meal.

A New. Babe in Town ... Welcome
Love that the Chesapeake has finally opened. This resturant is a new generation of the Chesapeake , if you are looking for the old Chesapeake that we all loved , look again this is not by any means that old dame, but a new and refreshing babe. We started with the a varity of oysters, i personal do not eat raw oyster fresh, sweet The scallops ... to live for, perfectly grilled so delicate so perfect and so tasty. Dessert the peach dessert was fresh, summer filled, biscuit flaky and lots of peach .. Devine. Looking forward to my next visit this babe is hot and I wish her much success.

Shrimp and Grits
Huge full shrimp and the best grits I ever had are two things that come to mind about the dinner. The aperitif drink special had watermelon juice, anejo rum and a fresh basil leaf - very tasty, worth a try before summer ends. Also, the oyster sampler for appletizer was very tasty.
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Kudos to the new owners of the Chesapeake! The food and service were exceptional.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
My partner were looking to try a new place on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend and headed here. We were unsure of what to expect, but were surprised with how excellent everything was. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. The marble bar is awesome and the space is open but intimate at the same time. We started with cocktails and oysters at the bar then moved to one of the leather banquettes for dinner. The charcuterie plate was excellent. The roast chicken was one of the best I have ever had!! Service was very good. Can't wait to come back here with friends!!!

Great addition to Baltimore
The Chesapeake is back. Although I never went to the original, and the current incarnation is thoroughly modern, as with the original, this place is destination dining. Everything is taken to a higher level-chicken; heirloom tomatoes; rockfish; beef; shrimp. You've seen them all before, but here they get star treatment with great results. The only thing that needs tweaking is the decor/atmosphere. It does not hold together well at all. Bare walls need something. The speakers had a short circuit and kept going on and off. And despite being next to Tapas Teatro, with all that outdoor seating, to windows (and there are many of them) are all sealed shut, keeping everyone locked inside in their greatest design missed-opportunity.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
I'm not from Baltimore, but have seen the vacant, old Chesapeake restaurant for years when going to Tapas Teatro. Then I heard a version 2 had opened. I wasn't aware that the original Chesapeake was a Baltimore classic - down to a piano player. Well, the new version I'm sure is nothing like the old version (guessing it was a traditional joint where every man wore prep-school dressy)...it is a modern day classic. Cool, hip, great menu, great food and an awesome staff. I know I just found another "favorite."

Fun fun fun
There were six of us and we were seated at the high tables in the bar side, which made it more fun. The low table side looked staid. We had the pickled veggie platter and some raw and roasted oysters. The oyster eaters were very pleased and the pickled veggies (carrots, red pepper, fennel, onions and of course cukes) were great and unusual and super crispy. I had lobster, very nice! A sauce was poured on by staffer just after plate was set on the table. Others had shrimp and grits, chicken, and soft shell crabs. All said their dinner was great. Desserts were very good as well. They are large enough for two to share. We will be going again soon.

A great addition to the restaurant choices near the Charles Theater.

The New Old Chesapeake
It had been fifty years since I set foot in the Chesapeake Restaurant, and to see this new space is wonderful. I love it. Everything was good, especially the service. I look forward to the evolving menu and to brunch soon.

Great menu selections with
Great menu selections with regional foods and the noise level was not excessive as it too often is in popular restaurants like this!
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
The menu was new for the fall and was interesting. It was heavy on the seafood so if you're not into that your choices are limited. We tried a variety of things. We had the Crostini and Brussels Sprouts for starters. One person used the Carpaccio for her entree along with the Jalepeno Hush Puppies. The entrees ordered were the Viking Scallops and the Monkfish, both of which were wonderful. There are only 4 scallops but they are HUGE and the two of us that got them took the two we couldn't eat (each) home. A couple of us are dessert fans and that was limited. They were very good and not too heavy. It was a bit noisy but we could hold our own and have a conversation. Our booth overlooking Penn Station at sunset was great.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
great chill place with good food
The food was great: Scallops were tender, oysters on the half were delicious, buttermut squash soup wonderful! Service was terrific.
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Another great meal
My second time. Another great meal...the carpaccio was incredible, so was the shrimp and grits...but best of all are the amazing mini biscuits they serve - could eat them all day long!!!
10/7/2013 5:00:00 PM
What was notable was the effort of everyone, from the person who seated me, to the bartender, to the waiter to make sure that we enjoyed the evening. While it was not a busy night, their intent to please was remarkable. The food was excellent. I ordered monkfish, which one does not see often on Baltimore menus. It was well and imaginatively prepared. My companion ordered the diver scallops and was equally well pleased.

Very Nice Dinner
My wife and I enjoyed a very nice dinner at this new restaurant before a show at the Lyric, which is only blocks away.
The fall salad that was perfect. Our scallops, which had been raved about by others, were okay. I find scallops hard to fix and these could have been fresher I believe as they were a bit gamy. The fried oysters were on the small side. The brussell sprouts were a bit vinegary for my taste.
Obviously I am very particular. That said, this is a very nice space that is working hard to establish itself. Our server could not have been more courteous and was appropriately attentive without hovering.
We will try here again and I encourage others to give this restaurant a try.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a wonderful evening at The Chesapeake- the bartender was outstanding (knowlegable, friendly, etc), the food was absolutely delicious and the ambience is just very cool. Highly recommended.
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Chef Glaze is outstanding!!!
The only thing I had a problem with was that the owner visited every table but mine. He looked right at us and walked away! For the record, we were not looking for a man. And he would have been on the bottom of the list if so. Ignorance is very unattractive!
