The Lark is unique. Although expensive, they have set the standard for really fine dining in the Midwest for decades now. It has not lost a step even as its owners have aged. There's nothing quite like it.

Best restaurant in Michigan
This is the place to go for a special occasion! Wonderful service and food. I have been going for thirty years and have never been disapointed.

Arguably the finest restaurant in Michigan. Superb wine list. Respectful waiters. A varied menu for meat and non-meat eaters. An elegant, warm and inviting atmosphere. Food is nearly flawless (one of three baked half-lobsters was over cooked); too bad as it was $82.00! Already dined here again since this review though! The Lark is a gem and a classic.

A beautiful setting for celebrating our 38th anniversary! The patio dining has an exceptional setting in a garden tended by Mary Lark. If you choose to dine inside, it still is a terrific and peaceful view through the windows. The service was exceptional, and the food, even more so. Every dish and appetizer has just the perfect balance of seasoning and textures. I never felt that I needed to reach for the salt or pepper shaker, then I realized that they are not even on the tables! No need for them! Every dish was surprising in their freshness and uniqueness, down to the desert cart, which is decadence to the tenth power! You will be satisfied, no matter what your taste or appetite. Enjoy! You won't regret it.

The wait staff told us that 9/10 go there for a special occasion. The Lark provides an enjoyable venue and experience for a "special occasion" so it's not hard to see why. The food is consistently well-prepared, the service is attentive, and the atmosphere is classy, in a very classic sort of way. You will leave feeling indulged, or rather good about indulging yourselves. That said, it's hard to avoid the impression that the Lark feels "special" because of how "special" the prices are. You just dropped at least $150 pp all included, so it must be "special," right? But the fact is that the food is by no means inventive or exciting. There's no wow factor to command such a premium. In any major US city, the bill would be half as much.

An evening to remember
Many thanks to Jim Lark and staff for. A memorable anniversary evening .
From the champagne toast , appetizer selection to the wonderful main selections , we were never disappointed.
W enjoyed a steak selection cooked as requested and the exquisite Dover sole. With a little room for dessert we sipped Capps and enjoyed dessert bars . The Lark presented us with crystal swizzle sticks to mark our celebration.

One word - outstanding
I hadn't eaten at The Lark for quite a few years and was looking forward to my return. I was not disappointed. It may well be the best restaurant in Michigan. It is not inexpensive but it is worth every penny. The included appetizer selections are first class. The curry duck salad was my favorite. The Butterfish entree was melt in your mouth delicious and done to the proper temperature. With dinner I ordered a glass of one of my favorite wines and it was definitely "off". One quick word to our server and it was replaced with a glass from a newly opened bottle with no fuss other than to apologize for the inconvenience. I can't say enough about how great the whole dinning experience was.

Recommended as the best in town by friends who used to live in the area. They were right. Everything from the moment you enter the restaurant tot he moment you live is an example of how a restaurant should be. The food is superb. We look forward to going there on our next visit to Detroit.

Wow! - A Special Experience
When I lived in Detroit in the 1990's, The Lark was always one of the top rated restaurants in the metro area; a place where I always wanted to go, but never managed to make happen. This week, I was in Detroit to entertain a customer with key executives from my company. I wanted their experience to be special. Seeing more recent, mixed reviews on the web about The Lark, I was a little nervous. However, the experience was flawless. The food was fantastic, service attentive and the multi-course dinner appropriate for a proper (IMO) dining experience. The restaurant is classically decorated with a French-theme to match the menu. This being my first time, the address was a little difficult to find, but worth getting there in the end.

Birthdays and special occasions
Food is always top notch, Wine list is huge and reasonably priced! Service is great and always a pleasure to see Jim Lark. Last few times we were there; he was not, but daughter Adrian runs a tight ship!

Fine Dining At Its Best
A sensational dining experience on all counts - food, service and atmosphere. It is no wonder that The Lark is consistently ranked among the best restaurants in the country. We cannot recommend The Lark too highly. We look forward to returning soon.

Simply put, one of the best restaurants you will ever visit. You are well taken care from the moment you walk in the door. Someone will be there to handle all that is needed to make sure you have a great time. You will even be greeted by Mr and Mrs Lark as well. Make sure to ask about oysters!

This was my first time at The Lark. My girlfriend always said I need to go there I have always enjoyed upscale dining. All other restaurants should aspire to be at The Larks level. Thank You Jim Lark

What a great restaurant. The decor is awful and looks like your grandmother's living room, but the food is amazing and the service was too. Our son had the rack of lamb and I would go back just to get that.....it was the best lamb that either my husband or I have ever tasted. Our lobster thermador was also incredible.
We would definitely go back for a special occasion.....too expensive for regular visits

One of the best places I have dined at for while, great setup and ambience.

We had dinner at The Lark for our anniversary. The meal was amazing. We had the Rack of Lamb and it was the best I've ever had. This resaurant is expensive so it is primary a "special occasion" place for most budgets, but it was well worth it. Also, Jim and Mary Lark were on the floor and giving personal attention to every table. Wonderful service. If you are looking for a top quality French restaurant, The Lark is highly recommended.
