Good but not great
It was very good but not rock this world. I ended up going for the tasting menu:
-- Carrot soup with spicy crab and a rice cracker.
-- Oysters three ways.
-- Seared venison
-- Salmon sashimi with a quail egg.
-- Lobster dumpling (with foie gras),
-- Tuna tartar with a shrimp roll
-- Tuna sashimi
-- White Asparagus pudding
What keeps me from giving it 5 stars is they missed a few things. There was no amuse bouche, and I think that adds a certain depth to a tasting menu and helps with pacing. Also, probably my biggest complaint was it was not a true tasting menu. Instead it was multiple courses off the menu, not tasting size portions and it was not orchestrated like a true tasting menu.

Excellent food, beautifully
Excellent food, beautifully prepared. Most of small dishes not big enough for sharing unless you double order. Waiter seemed uncomfortable saying that but he/she should let patrons know. BYOB for now.

Exciting New Restaurant
We really enjoyed our dinner. Each of the dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. The servers were very knowledgeable and attentive. We are looking forward to returning.

I liked the food quite a bit.
I liked the food quite a bit. My wife was not too sure about it. We ordered two small plates, split another small plate and split an entree. That was just about right for two people. Because the restaurant is currently BYOB, the price was very reasonable for two.

Interesting and Tasty food
We were delighted with the interesting and varied flavors of the freshly made spring rolls, and hot and cold plates. We had 4 dishes and they were brought to us one at a time to share. They are in the old Erwin spot and worth the short walk from TimeLine theater. We didn't allow quite enough time to enjoy as many dishes as we might have, but early on a Tue eve the staff was able to keep things moving at a good pace and we got to TimeLine before the playreading started. Next time we will allow 1 hour 15 min to be able to savor more. We had the lobster with fois gras - a generous claw serving, but next time we wil get each of us our own it was so good.

thoughtful and delicious. And accommodating to the one vegetarian in our group.

Best New Restaurant in Chicago
Vu Sua is fantastic--the menu is extremely creative, food is delicious and beautifully presented. We had the chef's tasting menu and it beat anything that Charlie Trotter ever came up with. The chef even came out and spoke with us after dinner. This is a 5-star restaurant with extremely moderate prices and reasonable corkage fees, making the experience even better. Highly recommended!

Super food! Great service ! Plus you can carry on a conversation with out yelling. Who ever opened this place and planned it should sell their services to other dinning places. I had almost given up on trying " new hot spots" because of the noise level.

Great new restaurant!
I have been here twice in the last few weeks. It is not expensive, but the food is amazing. We shared plates and so I have had a chance to try numerous items on the menu and they are all delicious. The service is amazing. I know it sounds strange, but I was finally brave enough to try the asparagus desert and it was incredible. I highly recommend it!

Vu Sua Soothes Voluptuously
a lovely spot in the old Erwin (which took over the French L'Escargot (north), and now returning to the French roots with a sort of Japanese-Vietnamese twist that was scrumptious. Innovative presentations of classic dishes, andreally an unlimited variety of ways to enjoy the food from multiple omakase (chef choices) tailored to YOU, or just ordering a la carte from a lovely menu. Wine is fairly to even a bit underpriced for quality now, and desserts are great in themselves. Service is knowledgeable, professional, and added to the meal. cannot wait to return! you should too.

Jazzy Wednesday Over Pho
The place is simple, clean and inviting; the staff pleasant and helpful.
I like the opening between the kitchen and the public...I feel connected with
everyone...us eating while the musicians entertain, the chefs
happily preparing the ordered food...

Excellent food close to home
The food was special. The classic vietnamese dishes were excellent, and so were the things we'd never heard of. Interesting, quality ingredients, unusual tastes combined with familiar things. Our wine was outstanding, and our waitress very charming. We were surprised to have live entertainment (on Wednesday night) -- a jazz singer with a beautiful voice. My only concern was that the restaurant was almost empty; I hope things pick up and the restaurant stays. We went early with little kids, and that worked out well.

Too bad the place was not much busier. I don't see how they can survive without more tables full.

Amazing food, ambiance so so
The food is spectacular, but its pretty dead in there. They should spruce up the outside with lanterns, repaint and get rid of the battleship grey color, and maybe close off the kitchen. But we went and will continue going back for chef Macku's amazing creations.

Bigger, Better Macku
I have been a huge fan for years of Macku's Clybourne outpost, and am thrilled now to have another Macku in Lakewiew. The menu is the same, and the food is still inventive and delicious (asparagus soup remains one of the best things I've ever eaten!), but this new space (formerly Erwin) is, frankly, SO much more comfortable than it's little sister. Light, airy, open, and even a little elegant., with a lovely bar area. Cannot wait to go back. Thank you Macku!!!

Really pleased with everything we had. Highly recommend the whole fish presentation for the sashimi. Kanpachi has been one of our favorites for years. Really well done in a variety of ways. Can not wait to be back as we definitely add this to our list of frequented establishments.

Finally, serious sushi in Lakeview
Arami, Sushi Dokku, and Katsu rise above the other neighborhood sushi places in Chicago. Macku Signature joins them. Nearly identical in menu to Macku on Clybourn, MS is a much more beautiful and larger space. We've been three times and cannot wait to return! Give them time to serve your cuisine, there is some real art employed in the preparation here. The entrees are as sophisticated as their roll and sashimi offerings, and their first course offerings are incredible. The white asparagus soup is one of the finest soups I've ever had.

Feast for the eyes and taste buds
The food presentation is outdone by the freshness and taste. Our server was very knowledgable and offered many great suggestions. We were all very happy with what we ordered and will definitely be back!

One of the best meals ever
We go out to dinner quite a bit (we live in the city) and sushi is one of our favorites. We love Macku and couldn't wait to try Macku Signature. Our meal was simply outstanding and all four of us said it was one of the best meals we have ever had! From service, to presentation to the quality of the fish - unbelievable!

Japanese say the food is best
I took 3 Japanese nationals for business dinner. At first, they thought the restaurant looked to American to be true Japanese, but when they tried the first dish they were impressed, that impression grew as did my bill. They said this was best Japanese food they have had in US. Also the Jazz vocalist was outstanding. Overall a great place for business dinner with Japanese Nationals.

Welcome to the neighborhood!
My fiancé and I already loved the original Macku in Lincoln park, and now we're extremely excited to Macku signature down the street from us in lakeview! The soups as always were to die for, the presentations were beautiful, and the taste combinations were extraordinary.

Food and service were great.
Food and service were great. I always love the sushi and soup here. We tried the duck entree and it was sub par, but everything else was delicious. I like the atmosphere in the restaurant, but it was freezing! Uncomfortably cold.

High End Sushi at Reasonable Price
I have never experienced a sushi restaurant like Macku Signature. The fish was so varied, incredibly fresh and uniquely prepared. I discovered types of sushi I had never heard of. In fact, the chef prepared several rolls just based on our suggestions. From beginning to end, the soup, sushi, dessert were all incredible. I highly recommend this place to any sushi lover looking to elevate their experience.
