Had a Stella, a delicious fruity beer, oysters, the mussels special and frites- all were great! The space is cozy, colorful and charming and I loved the Frank Sinatra tunes playing in the background!

Cool, Classy, and Delicious
The food was so delicious and plated well. A good change from other restaurants in New York. The atmosphere was awesome and very creative, based off of the surrealist painter Rene Magritte. I would definitely come back here, and I would bring friends!

A nice dinner
A nice addition to UES scene. The owner is very pleasant and helpful. The interior is cute and booths are comfortable (next to bar) and never got too loud. We had oysters, mussels in savory garlic/creamy broth (large portion and large mussels), ham croquettes (more buttery, than ham-ey) and duck entree (cooked to a nice rare). The beer selection is great (obviously, since it's all about belgian beer here). There are a few wines and cocktails. I tried 3 cocktails and they were a little weak but probably popular with UES crowd. Just a nice, well rounded dinner experience. Will definitely be back.

Excellent food and service !
If you are searching for authentic Belgium food and beers, do not go any further !
Very good food, and friendly service . It was a bit noisy due to a group of speed dating, but it was fine.
I will definitely go back!

Great New Addition
I went for dinner and loved the food and atmosphere. The beer list is extensive! I would recommend this restaurant to just about anyone. I am also a huge fan of the artist Rene Magritte which this restaurant's theme is decorated in. I can't wait to try their mussels and rack of lamb!!

What the neighborhood needs
A nice new addition to the UES. Friendly, fun, quality people and atmosphere. Good food, good drinks, good service, good bartender and everyone, including the staff, seem to be enjoying themselves. recommend.

I'm hesitant to write because I want to be able to get into Magritte again. It's a fantastic experience. They have an extensive Belgium beer menu and whether you are a beer drinker or not, it's special. Take the advice of your waiter and try a beer or two.

A FIND on Open Table
I'm not sure what caught my eye when I was browsing for a new place to try this past Friday but I happened onto Brasserie Magritte's "cooking with beer" listing and checked out the menu, then decided to give it a try. It's great little find on the UES with fantastic appies like pate, foie gras, a house specialty of endive wrapped in ham and swiss. For main courses, we had mussels prepared in the "north" way with cream and white wine, and a great roasted duck breast, all with incredible Belgian fries. Our very attentive server asked what kind of beer we liked and made a great recommendation and (I assume) owner went from table to table to ensure all was perfect. We have only kudos for the Brasserie Magritte. Definitely worth a try!

Brasserie Magritte is a nice addition to the neighborhood, with a great bar scene and extensive beer list, as well as a delicious food with attentive service.

First time eating at Brasserie Magritte. The service and food was delicious. Our server was very knowledgeable of all foods on the menu, which helped us decide on what we ultimately ordered. It was a wonderful dining experience in a small venue atmosphere and we plan to go back.

Food good, but lacks a wine list--only 2 0r 3 available. Not everyone wants pricy Belgian beers

Belgium at its best
This restaurant has it all. Great service, ambience and food, not to mention a huge variety of beer. Hosts Sean and Sean take great care to match you with the perfect brew. The staff is knowledgeable, not to mention that this eatery serves the cleanest mussels in NYC. The menu features standard Belgian fare with fresh ingredients and has something for everyone. The decor cleverly transports you to inside a painting by the famous Belgian artist Rene' Magritte, making it truly a surreal dining experience.

Best Brasserie in Manhattan
Brasserie Magritte has everything you would want in a restaurant. The staff is not only patient and well versed in both foods and beers, they are polite and well trained without being unctuous. The decor is quite whimsical, enhancing our dining experience. A totally delightful experience that won't break the budget.

Burgers, Brew, Friendly Staff, Too!
So glad to have this Belgian bistro in the neighborhood! Love the friendliness and the burgers. There are many wonderful Belgian beers to sample with the burgers, and the salads are great, too!!

My girlfriend suggested celebrating her birthday at Brasserie Magritte and it was a great idea. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We shared the gnocchi, beef stew, Belgium mashed potatoes and string beans -- everything tasted great! We also split a fruit crepe for dessert which was also delicious. Although the restaurant was crowded, the noise level was not too loud. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I look forward to go back there again!

Go-to spot for dinner with friends
Just had another fun evening at Brasserie Magritte. The atmosphere is welcoming, the food is delicious, the beer choices are many ( alternate wine or cocktails if you do not drink beer) and the staff is friendly. The decor is a well done mix of Magritte and Belgium. In some restaurants those national flags tacked up on the wall do not add to the ambiance but here the interior design is thoughtful and adds to the dining experience. We love sitting in the booths.

What makes Magritte so damn great!?
So, first off, we arrived a little bit late for a reservation we had already postponed. AND our party was incomplete. They immediately seated our two person incomplete party at their best table and served us water, asking us what drinks we wanted. It was an hour later when our last party member showed up. They were quick to take our orders, bring us drinks, etc. The wait staff was highly attentive. The food was great! AND best of all, Sean, the owner (who was behind the bar) and by their INCREDIBLE beer selection, offered us drinks on the house after we finished eating.
It was a great meal had by all and Sean was a great host!

Great for after the Museum
We enjoyed our first visit to this brasserie with the Surrealist painter in its name and pictures reminiscent of his work on the wall. The Belgian style food was interesting and well-prepared, and there was excellent service, an astounding beer selection and an informal, pleasing atmosphere, all of which added up to a very nice dining experience. Even though one of us drank wine, the beer menu was fascinating and what we sampled was unusual and delicious. Beer-marinated duck was scrumptious.

Romantic Belgian Food and Gallery
Pretty design (soothing grey with a blue sky and clouds on the ceiling; romantic atmosphere. Interesting Magritte paintings displayed on walls. Food was quite good although service seemed erratic.
Waiter and restaurant not forthcoming. Feeling hungry, we asked for bread; told the restaurant doesn't serve bread. Not told there's a $3.00 charge and given chance to change our minds. Also, the extra charge not stated on the menu. Learned of it when it appeared on the bill. The waiter (somewhat argumentatively) removed the charge, but his attitude changed. Whereas he had been quite friendly, he became less pleasant and standoffish, and his subsequent interactions with us were tinged with resentment.

Great food & TONS of Belgian
Great spot on the UES. If you like Belgian beer, this is the place for you. Every meal we had was great. They have a private room in the back for larger parties but also small tables w dim lighting makes it a nice date night place also.

Really pretty inside - quirky,
Really pretty inside - quirky, with Magritte art everywhere. Certainly a great neighborhood spot; many patrons were greeted warmly by the staff. Appetizers were excellent: large plate of assorted cheeses/prosciutto could have been a meal itself, and the duck confit leg was delicious. Meals were likewise good - large portions, so plenty to take home. Flight of beers was a nice way to sample.

Great food, price slightly high
We had a great experience and the food was excellent. However, it is Belgian brasserie food at the end of the day, and charging $25-$29 for an entree is a bit much. I would have left 100% satisfied if only they lowered their prices by $3-4/entree. That's all it would take to make this feel complete.

Wonderful meal and service
Used an amazon voucher so 2 of us each had app, entree, beer flights and shared dessert. Had a really lovely waiter (Belgian, so appreciated his accent and beer knowledge) and food was just outstanding. I had duck, boyfriend had beef stew. Been there before and will go back - even without a deal!

My wife and I dined at Brasserie Magritte this past Friday and had a wonderful experience. Charming décor with a varied menu. The food was excellent and the service friendly and attentive. This is definitely a place for Belgian beer lovers with over 95 varieties available.
A welcome addition to Yorkville and the UES - highly recommended.

Good neighborhood bistro.m
They have a wonderful selection of Belgian beer. The service is friendly and capable. The food is good. The environment iis warm and cozy. The best part is. That you can actually hear the people' at your table.

Lots of food and bottomless drinks for a very reasonable price! Come hungry - leave full. Would definitely come back.

Belgium beer used in all their
Belgium beer used in all their recipes makes very very good comfort foods. My wife even found beer that she was done of. A very nice change from the Upper East norm.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Noise level a bit too high. It's great for the under 30s who aren't too heavy on an on-going conversation usually. But for anyone who wants to have a conversation over dinner, a few decibels lower whould help. Appetizers terrifice. Need at least one more "simple" dish on entrees that isn't pricey for those who would like to have a starter plus and entre without breaking the bank on a weekday night's budget. Whoever designed Magritte's is not only art smart but knows how to create a "scene."

A Wonderful Experience
We recently visited Brasserie Magritte for the second time and had another wonderful experience. This time we brought friends who were visiting from Vermont who are both big beer lovers - the wide selection of Belgian beers was a big hit! Our server Gerald was very knowledgeable and able to recommend the perfect beer for each course. The food, service and ambiance were all wonderful - in addition, I had requested a specific table for the five of us which the restaurant was able to accommodate as well. All in all a memorable evening - I highly recommend Brasserie Magritte!
