Bistro Marquee is a Gem!
Wanted to see what this new place had to offer since it has been at least three different places since my first dining experience in that location since 1993. Took a friend from out of town to try it and we weren't disappointed!!
With all the new restaurants opening up these days it was truly wonderful to find one that really appreciated you being there. Great food, but more than that a great wait staff. Friendly and knowledgeable. The Happy Hour looks good too, will defiantly be going back with friends!!!

fine food served well; nice place
We had fine three-course meals with excellent Oregon wines & beer & fresh lemonade. Potato croquettes (with manchego & harissa) & queen of sheba cake are particularly recommended & the boeuf bourguignon is perfect; really almost everything was good. (The only exception I recall was a lamb meatball, served over excellent polenta & with reasonably good flavor, but an unfortunate, somewhat rubbery texture). Look for seating at 7:30, just after the door opens at the theater round the corner. The sidewalk is broad & conversation easily heard above the street sounds, so outdoor seating is a treat in good weather. Service was pleasant and leisurely as befits the food; expect to spend 75 minutes & about $45 a meal including drinks, tip & dessert.

If you miss Carafe...
We went for the June $29 3-course special and had a lovely meal – there were multiple choices for all courses, and all we tried were very good, especially the rich Bœuf Bourguignon. Our waiter, Kevin F, was helpful and knowledgeable, and made our experience even better. There was an interesting choice of wines by the glass, but some of the bottle pricing on a small list was a little high for which we deducted one star (there was a Reserve List which we did not ask for because of the “regular” pricing). We used to enjoy Carafe when it was at this location, and hope Bistro Marquee prospers at least as long as it did. We will be back.

We attended an afternoon Matinee at the Keller and made reservations for after the show. We received an outdoor table and had immediate service. The hard part was trying to make a selection, so ordered our wine and martini and shared the Sweet Corn and Jalapeno Fritters (which are not spicy hot -- just perfect) while we mulled over the choices. Decided upon Foraged Mushroom Crepe (wow!), Oysters (plenty of them) fried in this wonderful cornmeal and Halibut with mushrooms, artichokes and fava beans. Ordered Beet Salad with strawberries that was refreshing. No complaints from anyone. Next time we want to try the scallops and will most likely order the oysters again! Just remember to make reservations on Keller show nights.

Outstanding Service, Great food
This is one of those restaurants you drive by and don't even notice. We found it while looking at the listings for Portland Dining Month. It is a funky spot but they offer free valet service and I have never had an easier time parking for a restaurant downtown. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly, very personable. The food was great (they lost a star only because the lamb meatballs didn't blow our socks off). It was a quiet night there, few people, so I have no idea what the noise level would be on a weekend night. Overall, I highly recommend checking out this place for special dinner.

We participated in $29 dinner program. All three courses were delicious!

Thumbs up, outside seating option
Good menu options, reasonable pricing, free parking, nice ambiance. Overall a great package for a nice dinner, and great overall value.

Bistro Marquee's selections were well thought out and seasonally appropriate (as well as re-named after the production across the street - cute). Each course was beautifully presented and perfectly executed. Service was great, and the bartender gave an excellent suggestion for a dessert course pairing. The only complaint was one of the desserts - a Queen of Sheba cake that was a bit dry and underwhelming. However, this probably wouldn't have come up if the other dessert - a butterscotch pots-de-creme - had not been so outstanding, and so well complimented by the aforementioned drink. I would certainly recommend this to a friend, especially if they're seeing a show afterwards (but not before - they close at ten).

first dinner at Marquis
Our neighborhood spot has had many owners the past few yrs. I loved my beef bourguignon and my wife enjoyed her burger. nice outdoor seating this time of yr. Our server was a little tired and crusty. She clearly didnt want to be there.

Outstanding food with tremendous
Outstanding food with tremendous choices and flavors. A hint of French but with normal portions! Yeah! Perfect before or after a show at the Keller. Has a European feel. Super accommodating staff. Tremendous bartenders too that know their mixology.

In a part of town with little
In a part of town with little besides casual restaurants, Bistro Marquee fills an empty spot for nicer place to go.

Best meal I have had in a long time. Love that they use local purveyors. Really great wines on tap. Appreciate the NW varietals. Their salmon was by far the best I've had in town! lightly seared, juicy, cooked to perfection and the potatoes / vegetables underneath were delicious. the butter sauce - I want to bathe in it. My husband had their chef's recommended burger - the pork belly add on was crispy yet moist. Our dining partner had their house made cavatelli with pork ragu - the pasta was obviously freshly made and cooked perfectly. dessert was a refreshing panna cotta. Husband had a well-made cocktail - it had whiskey, ginger and pear puree. Great to have a restaurant fill a void in this neighborhood. And they have free parking! yay!!

Fabulous all around
I've actually been here twice - but didn't make a reservation the first time. The non reservation time was for lunch and they were busy but kindly accommodated my group. We all had delicious lunches - mine was a fantastic Po Boy - the oysters were fried to perfection - still juicy yet flavorful. The slaw with it was fresh and delicious.
Dinner - excellent! We started with the house made rillettes, pate, and chicken liver mousse.Interesting and tasty. Also had the seasonal vegetable trio (my wife is vegetarian) as an appetizer carrots glazed with sherry,
local honey;, corona beans with broccolini, cucumber & heirloom tomato pickled red onion. Pork tenderloin was what we both had for dinner - it was succulent! We will be back a lot! yay!

Need to rethink their wine
Need to rethink their wine list and overall approach to serving wine. Offering wine by the growler is unappealing to those who enjoying wine with a meal and the existing list to too narrow, lacking much depth at a reasonable price point (something Carafe did extremely well).

Great service--did refills without asking, food really excellent

Fabulous Food and Fantastic Service
Top notch house made pasta. Delicious and perfectly prepared salmon. Shrimp appetizer is to die for. Friendly and efficient service. Parking validation to boot - What's not to love.

We were tasked with finding a restaurant for 6 people where the food was very good and we could talk. Bistro Marquee was perfect on all counts. We had a delightful server who knew just when to come to the table. The food was outstanding including the Duck confit with lentils, the steak with frittes, and especially the beef stroganoff. Actually, we were taken back by the quality of the food and the attention to detail. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone not just going to the theater but for a special occasion also. I can't wait to go back.

Went by myself on a Thirsday night. Not many people so service was pretty attentive. Duck confit was delicious as was the Pregon wine recommended by my waitress.

Before performances at the Keller
This is a perfect spot to dine before performances at the Keller. They have a menu geared to whatever is playing at the Keller, service is very efficient and food is tasty. Dining outside on the sidewalk opens Portland to you and is a wonderful place to meet friends who are attending the Keller, also.

Good but not great
We had dinner before a show at Keller Auditorium. The service was adequate, but we had to go to the register to request and pay our bill. The food is good, but this is not a "foodie" restaurant. There is certainly no better location for dinner before a show, but don't come expecting top end quality food or service.
9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
a nite at the theater
a great place for dinner before walking across the street to the auditorium - we had a very professional waiter who couldnt do enough for us to make sure my wife was pleased with her drink - she had the chicken which she really enjoyed and i had the duck- you wont need a coffee refill if you order some with dessert as they serve in really large cups
will be here again the next time we go to the theater (evita)

I hope this one sticks!
This is the third restaurant in this location in three years. I hope this one sticks. The food was delish and so were the cocktails. Its a nice little place to catch a bite before going to a show at Keller Auditorium. We sat outside on the side and the road noise wasn't bad at all. I imagine in the front that's a bit more prevalent. The wait staff was nice and everything was prompt. My initial reaction to my pasta entree was that the portion size was a bit small, but it allowed me to get dessert and I wasn't hungy be the end of the meal. I do think the menu was a little sparse, so I hope they fill it in over time.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went here before going
We went here before going across the street to see a play. The food is great and then all you have to do is walk to the play! We would have made a reservation for the evening of the next play on the way out, but we didn't have the date.

We went to Bistro Marquee on a Friday night, expecting it to be packed. There was no show at the Keller, so the restaurant wasn't overly busy. Our server was amazing. She had great suggestions, and took great care to make certain we were satisfied with everything. My partner is lactose intolerant, and she made sure nothing had cheese or butter - and even made sure they put the ice cream in a separate dish for dessert without us reminding her. The food was really good, but the service outshined it!
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great service, good food
The menu was as listed, the food was of good, but not spectacular quality. We were there early on Friday night, so it was quiet.

Great Start to Theatre Night
We have been here three times, before the show at the Keller. Food and drinks are wonderful. The staff is friendly and we never worry that we won't get out on time. It is so pleasant that it is convenient and also so good. We will continue to choose Bistro Marquee for dinner on theatre night.

Great pre-show spot
We were headed to a show at the Keller Auditorium and made reservations at Bistro Marquee. The food was perfect, non complaints. Ambiance was nice, but the noise level was a bit high. The service was wonderful, though, and the owner of the restaurant even came to see that we had enjoyed our meal. I would definitely recommend it.

Before the ballet.....
This is a wonderful place for a delicious dinner before any performance at the Keller Auditorium. It's just across the street, there's a parking garage next door, and they validate! All this wouldn't mean much if the food wasn't good, but it was excellent. I had the goat cheese ravioli and my ballet companion had the beef stroganoff; we shared a salad and a dessert. And a bottle of wine. Service was prompt and pleasant, and all for a reasonable price.

Right Next to the Keller
We love it when the Ballet and Opera season begins in Portland! And to make each performance ever better, we come early enough to eat dinner at Bistro Marquee. We've loved this charming little space since it was Carafe for years and years. Then a short-lived Market (which was great! where did it go?).
Now it's Bistro Marquee, and owner Leslie Palmer is determined to wow diners with her charm as well as her very lovely food and wine. From our two dinners there so far, it sure looks that she will succeed. Good luck to Bistro Marquee! We'll be seeing you -- a lot.

Found this restaurant on Open Table listing. Very close to Keller Auditorium so perfect for a great dinner before or after a performance. Very interesting menu with items you don't see at every foodie place you go.

We had dinner with our teenage
We had dinner with our teenage daughter and her boyfriend and it was a terrific experience. The food and service were excellent and our waiter was friendly and funny but not smarmy and had good, informed opinions about the food. it was a mystery to us as to why we were the only table on a Saturday night.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
My mom and I dined at Bistro Marquee prior to an event at the Keller. The wait staff was very attentive, positive, and helpful - especially given my food allergies. The owner was also attentive and warm to us and other diners, setting the tone for an inviting atmosphere. We had a lovely soup. The Roasted Beet salad was incredible, and the duck confit very flavorful and satisfying. We splurged on the flour less chocolate cake. YUM!
The one down side is we sat next to the enclosed patio seating, and we would get a blast of cool air every time the door opened.
I plan to be a regular for pre-Keller dinner, and would like to come back on an off-theater night for a more relaxing dinner.

Downtown Portland gem
We were staying at the Marriott Waterfront, and this restaurant is just around the corner. And delicious! We tried the short ribs and the beef stroganoff, shared a beet salad. What a delight. We were there a night the theater was dark, so we had the restaurant to ourselves. What a shame that folks haven't figured out how great this place is! Give it a try -- you won't regret it!

Delicious food, a bit spendy
Delicious food, a bit spendy but not bad. They got us to the Opera on time.

Bistro Marque is great place for dinner before a show. It is across the street from the Keller . We really enjoyed our dinners there. The food was very tasty and well prepared.we had three different meals and they were all excellent. Try the beet salad and the beef stroganoff . Out off this world. Service was good and attention the details was quite good.

Pre Theater Dinner
This restaurant has charm and energy. The service was wonderful and the staff was exceptionally friendly. I had the scollops and they were delicious. The menu is not huge, but it is varied.

Great location just across the street from Keller auditorium. The service was great. Attentive but not intrusive and the food was excellent.

Blew us away! Excellent Food!!!
My wife and I had been stopping in at this location every month for an afternoon cocktail for several years (when it was called Carafe's and then something else for 2-3 months) prior to my appointment with Gina at Mathews upstairs. We would then go to dinner at El Gaucho's. It was our pattern (and a pretty good one). A couple of months ago we noticed the name change to Bistro Marquee and checked out the menu. It looked so good we grabbed a happy hour app, loving it. Stopped in this month and loved the apps again so we decided to try dinner with friends. We came in with HIGH expectations and the dinner was 200% better than expected. Great short rib, stroganoff and fried chicken on honey cornbread (really). We will be back ASAP.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Our wait staff was very knowledgable about the menu and portion sizes. Happy Hour choices are excellent and generously sized. A green salad was so fresh the greens were ready to jump off the plate. A great choice for dinner before a performance at the Keller Auditorium across the street. Although our wait person seemed to forget us after our meal, it was okay since none of us wanted dessert anyway.
