More Fun with Friends
The small plates mean you can taste more of the menu items with a group -- so much fun!!

The food and drinks were above
The food and drinks were above average for an affordable tapas restaurant. The service was well below average: forgetful, slow.

Very friendly service both at bar and dinner! Bartender makes amazing drinks! Nice decor and cozy atmosphere.

Food = A
The food was very good (especially the tomatillo gazpacho), and the service and ambience were okay. Drinks were so-so; also small. My one complaint is that the restaurant was quite pricey. Although the food was good, as noted, the servings were smaller than expected, even for "tapas," and even a few of them can run up an expensive bill, quickly.
6/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
My second experience was as good as the first. We plan to go to Bandolero each time I am in DC.
6/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went for my sister's Bachelorette Party (7 of us) on Saturday and it was a hit! It is the perfect mix of classy and casual dining that won't break the bank. The drinks were delicious and reasonably priced and the food was on point. Try the Steak and Chicken Quesadilla's, the sauces that they pair with them are excellent!
6/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
First visit to Bandolero and I was very pleased. Guacamole was excellent and so was the green chili. We ordered about 6 plates in all but couldn't finish everything. The server was really nice and despite the loud noise level downstairs near the bar, the upstairs was not that bad. The coolest part was the Mexican coke. $4 a bottle but it's pure cane sugar and bottled in Mexico. Overall, the food was good and we'd go back if we were in the area.

Treat for Out of Towners
We took some family visiting from the midwest to Bandolero on a Saturday night. One of our guests looked at the menu and was intimidated, saying "I typically eat cheeseburgers". He ordered the skirt steak taco since he considered it the most "safe" item on the menu. We ordered about 8 dishes total for the table of 4. He loved his tacos and the brussel sprouts. He was most impressed with the watermelon tomato salad saying he "didn't know if he wanted to laugh or cry" because the food was so good. Experience overall was a memorable one and we will definitely continue converting our midwest friends and family into foodies.
6/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Service was outstanding. Food was lacking in some instances. the mahi mahi taco didn't pack much flavor. Suckling pig taco was the best.

Great food & drinks. Their
Great food & drinks. Their suckling pig tacos and chips/guac are delicious! House margaritas are simple, but very tasty. Definitely will continue to go back to this place time and time again. The service was also really good - very attentive and quick.

This is a hip place. That we took our picky eater 9 and 6 year olds to. And it was great. We were the only family in the place for a 7:00 reservation but that didn't bother us. The kids had the quesadilla and the steak tacos and ate all of it. My wife and I had a couple margaritas that were very tasty and kinda split the short rib flatbread, chicken tacos, shrimp cocktail, chicken enchilada, and the Brussels spouts. We could have ordered our own sprouts, they were that good. The only negative I could say about this place is the bar seemed noisy. We didn't eat there so it didn't bother us and it wouldn't have if I was in my 20s and 30s but its not a place to go for conversation. I highly recommend this place.

Loved this place!
We absolutely loved Bandolero. The food was amazing--really loved the crazy corn. The service was just as good--Jim was great and really took care of us.

Excellent food and service
This place has amazing food. We got the Bandolero Sangria and it was very tasty and potent. the La Muestra was great, fresh guacamole and salsa and tasty chips. Tuna Taquito, watermelon tomato, Chicken tacos and Sope - all were very delicious. Service was also fantastic. Our server recommended us all these things and was very knowledgeable and prompt. I highly recommend this restaurant.
7/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
My boyfriend and I love Bandolero. We invited his Mother and Aunts who were visiting from out of town to come and have dinner with us. They were a little unsure of the idea of tapas and sharing our different orders. Once we all had placed our orders and the food had arrived the fun began. I would recommend the mushroom tacos, the crispy mahi mahi tacos, the suckling pig, the chicken tacos, and the skirt steak tacos. The service was fantastic and they ensured that our drinks were never empty. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I'll be back
Big success in a high risk move bringing my parents to what could have been too spicy, too narrow a range of options, too noisy. There were options for everyone and the food was all very good, service attentive, and noise level seemed high at first but moderated for a sat night at 6:45pm...
I'd been waiting til the crowds thinned to try B, and now it seems like the time is right. Very tasty and interesting dishes, presented well, served quickly by attentive young staff.

I'd go again.
Overall we are generally positive on the meal. We enjoyed everything we ordered (guacamole, hiramasa, sopes, chicken enchilada, campechano, and the crispy Brussels sprouts): all artfully prepared and plenty filling. However, we still got a little sticker shock at the end (tab was just over $100 before tip including 2 drinks and a dessert). The prices skew a bit high for a small plate menu; I would probably skip the guac and campechano - too pricey for what they are - but I would not worry about being able to find equally tasty replacements.
An early Sunday evening meant the restaurant was only half full and relatively quiet (a plus in our view); it allowed us to focus on the food, which we found worth doing.
7/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fine but nothing special
Service was very friendly but food was underwhelming. Brunch entrees were small and bland -- I was surprised, because I've heard good reviews about dinner - portions small but food fantastic. Mimosas (Passionfruit and Strawberry) were very tasty.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were seated upstairs, where the atmosphere is less original than downstairs (think, the ceiling was gross). Waiter was just ok, seemed overwhelmed and it took him forever to get back to us for more orders. However, the food is great and once ordered, arrives promptly. Also, yummy cocktails.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Loved the atmosphere, food and service. Will be back!

Awesome Sunday Brunch
Went to Bandolero for a last minute Sunday Brunch. Food was very good and Mike added a very tasty Mexican spin to Brunch classics. The Chicken Wings and Churros was awesome and something that you must oder when you go there. Overall, woudl certainly bring frineds or family there for a Sunday Brunch.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food and drinks were amazing. Much more causal than expected, but has a cool vibe.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Awesome service from Chris!
Went here for my birthday and our server Chris was amazing! The food and margaritas were top notch! My friend loved her mahi mahi tacos and I loved my skirt steak with chimichurri sauce! We had the Bandelero margarita and the frozen prickly pear margarita. Both were amazing and highly recommended! The guacamole was also yummy but the chips were a little greasy for me. But it was freshly fried and not storebought. We will definitely be back though!

Funky, delicious, loud
Food was to die for, and I am a vegetarian. Loved the design of the restaurant. Only cimsint was it was pretty noisy.
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went here with two friends, which was the perfect number for trying lots of the small plates. Everything was excellent!
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good meal at Bandolero!
We really enjoyed our meal at Bandolero and especially appreciated the extensive bar menu for tequila and other drinks. I don't think we'll be returning, however, unless someone else is paying! Good food and great service but at a high price!
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great small plates!
Great Happy Hour menu, went for restaurant week, ended up getting 3 HH dishes & 2 from regular menu. Loved each of them. Mango moussse was superb. Need to go back to try out other dishes. Watched Georgetown crowd pass-by from my table at the large open window.

Restaurant Week Dine
Went during restaurant week and had the pre fixe menu. Food was all pretty good, but the standouts were the suckling pig tacos and the crispy Brussels. Had some guacamole at the bar and a couple of drinks before dinner and the happy hour is a real steal. Only $5 for the guac (vs. $13 at regular price, which is pretty steep in my opinion). Margaritas were also very good. Overall a very nice dining experience.

Great to check out...
I have been here once before for Happy Hour, but decided to come and check out the lunch menu for restaurant week. Was ok, not a lot of food. Tacos do not come with sides so you should order an app or an additional item. Mahi Mahi tacos were good, but not worth $12 for just two tacos. Tasty ceviche and DELICIOUS tres leches cake!
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was excellent. The service was excellent. One of the few restaurants we plan to return too.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
We loved everything we had. The tres leches cake-amazing, brussel sprouts-amazing, short ribs and mahi-mahi tacos-amazing!
8/23/2013 5:00:00 PM
Solid food, absent service
The food was pretty great, being ignored for the first 30 minutes and during the course of your meal isn't. Also, don't try to cram a group of 5 onto those silly couches upstairs. That's a bad idea even for three tiny people to sit on those things.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
The ceviche presentation was interesting. Slices of fish placed on very thin medallions of cucumber. Overall the taste of the tacos was good. For the fish tacos they were over fried. Same for the churros which were nearly fried to death and overly covered with cinnamon. Portions were very small.
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Exceptional Spanish cuisine. Unique, always delicious, and very friendly staff. Go for brunch or dinner. Food is good on whichever menu! Don't pass it up!

Fun atmosphere, good food
We enjoyed our time at Bandaleros. The margaritas were superb and the ambiance was fun and energetic. The food was unique and good, although not amazing and was small portion sizes. For the price, I was expecting a little more from the food, but was overall very impressed.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
The day of the dead ambiance was interesting. The restaurant was a little too dark for my liking..literally. More lights would be nice. The service was exceptional. The server who took care of us was very suggestive with the menu and very attentive. The food was tapas style. There were three of us so we each order three plates which was more than enough. The food was excellent. Very creative and delicious. Very recommendable.

I've been to Graffiato, another
I've been to Graffiato, another of Mike Isabella's restaurants, a few times for dinner and shared a bunch of small plates with a group of friends. For some reason, I thought brunch at Bandolero would be different. To me, brunch is a large portion of food coupled with mimosas that aids in the recovery of a hangover. Not so much here. I ordered the steak and eggs, but what came to the table was a 4" x 6" plate with three ounces of beef, a few potatoes, and one (1) fried egg. Delicious? Yes. Worth $12? Eh. They ran out of mimosas so we had bottomless margaritas. (That is definitely worth $19!) If you're a light eater and want to drink a lot, this place is for you. If you don't want to leave a restaurant $40 poorer and hungry, go elsewhere.
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
the tuna tacos were amazing as well as the lingua! We will go back again!
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food good, ambience needs work
The food was good, but portions small and pricey. We had a table for eight and ordered 2 appetizers to share. It was difficult to get to the appetizers to share, perhaps they could have divided each appetizer so both sides of the table could reach it. Also very loud but that's to be expected in the barlike atmosphere.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
"Haute Mexican," if that's even a food category. It's loud and lively with a great Georgetown M St. locale. Tacos and enchiladas break with tradition and are filled with things like suckling pork and chorizo. The chuletas de cordero (lamb chops) are quite good as well. The salsas are fresh and very tasty. You'll need 2 tapas + chips/salsa/guac to fill up, or just order aggressively and often if dining with a group. The Bandolero Margaritas are over-priced at $10 with a lot of ice but tasty and a little different with the blood orange juice. Go with the $40 pitcher if having more than 3. Dinner for 2 with drinks at $130 won't be cheap, but the kitchen turns out different and creative dishes with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We really enjoyed this restaurant. Based on reviews, it looks like it might not be the best place for brunch, but dinner was delicious. Everything we got was great. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful. The margaritas (we got the pitcher) were delicious. We also ordered the suckling pig tacos - very generous portion and probably one of their larger tapas. The mahi mahi was ok - basically a fish stick in a tortilla....and only 2 of them. The brussel sprouts were AMAZING and if we had room, we would have definitely ordered those twice! The restaurant is a little dark, but not in a bad way. The bar was large and I would have been just as happy sitting there instead of the dining room.

Delicious! A little too spicy,
Delicious! A little too spicy, hoped we could choose level of spicy.

Great Brunch Place
I was visiting from NYC with my gf. This place was recommended by a few people online. I have to say, they were right on target with the good reviews. We made reservations, which at least on the Saturday that we went, were not needed for a noon visit. It might be different on other days, but it didn't hurt to guarantee a table. The food options were somewhat like Tapas options, but with some dishes slightly larger in portions. It was some of the best Mexican breakfast dishes I've ever had.

Home is where the food is!
3 Los Angelenos who know Mexican Food and crave it everyday but can't find it in the district have found home at Bandolero's! The service was also awesome! From entering the restaurant we felt at home with the hostess welcoming us as we entered and to the time we left. Our waiter was very attentive and welcoming despite the level of obnoxiousness we may have portrayed the more we drank. We will definitely come back and partake in bottomless brunches (ordered bottomless mimosas).
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
Food was awesome. The suckling pig tacos were amazing and the guacamole was excellent. Our server was very attentive and helpful when navigating the menu. Margaritas were also great! I will be coming back often.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
I loved this place. We had reservations at 9:45 pm but the server made it a priority to make sure we were seated quickly. We had crab taquitos, guacamole, crispy mahi mahi tacos, and chicken quesadillas. The serving style is "tapa plates" so the servings were small but there was plenty of food. We definitely were too full to finish any of it. The service was good and the restaurant has nice decor! We also had Mexican soda - Grapefruit and Limon... so good! If you're ever craving Mexican food and you're in Georgetown go here. It's awesome!
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
My friends and I went to Bandolero for dinner on a Sunday, and it was perfect. It was a quiet night, the music was awesome but quiet enough that we could still talk easily, and the bartender kindly brought us some awesome tequila. I will go back to enjoy the great food and extensive tequila list.
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
The menu was not overwhelming with too many choices. The brussel sprouts were wonderful!

Terrific Mexican small plates
Absolutely wonderful food with many vegetarian options. Friendly service. Much less crowded in the afternoon than the evening, which gets loud. Small plate prices can add up!
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
We went the Friday after Thanksgiving and the restaurant was nowhere near crowded. The food was excellent. Great drinks too. Highly recommend!

Girls night out gem
We enjoyed the laid back Wednesday post-happy hour vibe. Food and drink were both excellent. That's one strong margarita! Our server was very personable and helpful in making recommendations for our group. Highly recommend to others.
