We invited friends to join us at Academy Street Bistro for dinner and we had a fantastic time! The food is amazing! Three of us had the special which was a lemon butter risotto topped with lobster. The risotto was so creamy and flavorful and the lobster was cooked perfectly. My husband had the prime rib which he said was excellent. We sat outside on the patio and really enjoyed dining outside under the sparkling lights hung from the trees in downtown Cary. This restaurant will really do so much to revitalize downtown Cary and make it a place where people can go for excellent food, great service and a fun night out with good friends.

The quality of the food blew me away! Attention to detail in all aspects of the experience is exceptional. The wait staff are very well trained and gracious. The bartender is knowledge and friendly. The only downside its the nose level when it gets crowded, which I am sure they well address soon. Fabric swags on the ceiling would help dampen the sound. Nonetheless, it is one of the best dining experiences I've had in Cary and Raleigh! I love it.

New in downtown Cary
We took some friends there for dinner and we all enjoyed it. The food was good and the decor is very nice. We have been there three times already for dinner.

Restaurant has a nIce ambiance and delicious food at reasonable price. I'd highly recommend the fried oyster appetizer & rack of lamb. Oysters were lightly battered, crisp on the outside without being greasy and were plated beautifully. The lamb was seasoned & roasted to perfection; it's potatoes au gratin side had a wonderful rich flavor. NY strip steak portion was generous and their diver scallops were prepared and presented nicely. While these two dishes were good, they did not not stand out as the lamb did. That said, the lamb was outstanding and I would not discourage anyone from ordering either of the other two dishes. Perhaps the chef might come up with a sauce to accompany the steak, to give it his unique signature???

We had a fantastic meal at the Academy Street Bistro. The seafood is superb - definitely recommend any of the specials that the Chef has prepared for lunch or dinner. All the seafood and produce is very fresh and the presentations are beautiful. The crab cakes are out of this world - all crabmeat, no fillers. We are so lucky to have Chef Brian relocate from NY to Cary to share his outstanding culinary skills and experience. The managers and wait staff are very kind and attentive; so great to have a family owned and operated establishment versus the chain restaurants that have dominated the area. Will be returning as often as possible!

Great food and service
The family loved it! The portions are perfect and very tasty. I can see this is a romantic spot but we brought the kids and they promptly switched out the glasses for kid cups and the kid menu has a great selection. Both wines my husband and I had were very good.

A Cary Gem
Great dinner, welcoming chef and staff. Phillip the server is right from Downton Abbey!!

A Gem in Cary
This was our second visit to this amazing place. The chef really knows his craft, every one of our group
loved every dish they had. The crab cake appetizer is fantastic! This is foodie heaven, for those who
can't get to the CIA in Hyde Park.

Fabulous dining experience
Fresh and well prepared food. Exquisite service, including a personalized dipping sauce for a crab cake (to replace a spicier sauce that my husband loved but that would have me running for a Zantac!). Nice surroundings as well.
7/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Finally Cary has a nice restaurant that isn't a chain full of unruly kids. Our second trip of many more to come. Great tasting food, prepared by a real Chef ad artfully plated. This one can compete with the best we've been too.
7/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a lovely evening at Academy Street Bistro. Our server was kind, attentive and courteous, and the food was tasty! We liked that all the wines on the menu were available by the glass, as well as by the bottle. My husband ordered the special -- swordfish -- which was some of the best we have ever had. Melted in the mouth - cooked to perfection.
After dinner, we moved to the outside tables for coffee. Nice outdoor eating area. We would have chosen to have our dinner out there too, if it had not been rainy. Candle lanterns and flowers made for nice outdoor ambiance.

A Cary GEM!
I've been waiting for a restaurant like Academy Street Bistro for a long time! The food is delicious, fresh, and elevated (but not over the top). The staff is super friendly, but there were a few kinks in the 2 dinner services we've attended. I attribute the kinks to inexperience and I think those will probably be ironed out soon (if not already). They really seem like a good bunch of people - the chef, management, servers and kitchen staff.
We found Academy Street Bistro, overall, to be approachable and promising. We look forward to becoming frequent diners!

We had a lovely evening. Food
We had a lovely evening. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Finally a restaurant of quality for Cary. We will be back many times with friends.

Paris in Cary!
I lived in Paris for one year (from Oct 2010 to Oct 2011). Parisian food is excellent.
Academy Street Bistro versus Paris -- EXCELLENT! I had a mussels ("moules") and dill soup (cold). Very delicious. I had taste Crème Brulee from my friend. Also delicious! Met Chef (Brian Fitzgerald) from NY City (Harvard Club).

Great Addition to Downtown Cary
Exactly the type of place our quaint downtown needed! Chef Brian does fabulous things with the menu; every item is delicious and beautifully presented without too much "fru-fru" - the food is the main attraction on the plate. The staff (especially "Prince Phillip") is fantastic; just enough attention without being annoying. The atmosphere is quaint yet modern with a sophisticated vibe. The garden patio is the best in the Triangle. We hope Academy Street Bistro will be a model for future businesses considering the "village" ambiance of Downtown Cary.

Food nicely presented and
Food nicely presented and well prepared with the exception of the mussel appetizer: mussels were over cooked and chewy. Overall, an enjoyable dining experience. Noise level on a Thursday night was deafening: a few large groups made conversation at our table of four nearly impossible. Management must address this issue. Outdoor dining would be an alternative weather permitting, but seating there is limited

This restaurant is a gem!
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Academy Street Bistro. Service is impeccable with great ambiance. Food is superb with nice presentation. THE BEST HAMBURGER ON THE PLANET!!!!!!

Wonderful Romantic Dinner
My wife and I went to Academy Street Bistro for dinner on our wedding anniversary in late July 2013. We dined inside because it was raining lightly. We had an absolutely wonderful time there. The food, wine, setting, staff were all amazing! The prices are reasonable too. Honestly, the food was so great I would have been willing to pay more. The staff was friendly and attentive, but not intrusive or too chatty. I had a wonderful Malbec. We left very satisfied and happy. I'd recommend ASB to anyone for a nice romantic dinner and have done so already.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Lunch with very good. Very busy -- three waiters. We ordered dessert . Wait 15-20 minutes for our dessert. I told the Manager (Susan), "where our dessert?" Our server, Dawn was very busy. Very noisy -- Americans talks very loud. Did you "baffle" on your ceiling?
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Classy casual lunch
We really enjoyed this restaurant. The service was timely and the waitress was helpful and very nice. The chicken wrap was
"pretty", lite and very good. My husband said the Original Black Angus Burger was the best burger he's had in a very long time! My favorite was the dessert..... we had Creme Brule and a raspberry moose in chocolate cups. Red Sangria was a perfect taste with my meal. We will defiantly return here again!

Okay, but not great
Easy neighborhood location. Menu seemed limited for evening service. Hamburger was good, but had too many condiments on it (lettuce, tomato, pickles, carmelized onions, odd sauce). Sweet potatoe fries would be a good replacement for regular fries in a place like this (and at this price).
Only carries Pepsi products. I ordered sparkling water. I got a huge bottle that was not cold, and got even warmer in the "cooler" they brought it in.
Will try it one more time.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was excellent and French wine (fizzy) Languedoc was very good! Server was excellent too!

Lovely Gem in Downtown Cary
The chef does an amazing job! The food is not overly fussy & the flavor of the main item comes through on all of his fare. The Crab Cake, is one of the best you will find any where. Moist crab meat, not over powered by strong seasonings. If you love crab cakes, order this as a meal with a side of vegetables. Dessert is done in the same manner. Clean - Crisp - Simple & lovely options. The food tastes freshly prepared! The service, we've had some really good service & other times the service has been OK. Front of House staff needs a little bit of work. Not every time, there's one waitress whose really good. Noise, it is a bit loud in the main dining room. The restaurant is simply done & has a nice bar area. Outdoor dining Options

We have been there. Twice
We have been there. Twice and had a very good dining experience... The food was very well prepared and presented beautifully.
We will definitely go again and read that brunch will be coming in the fall, can't wait!

Interesting food options
and attentive service...but not cheap. This restaurant will make a great special occasion, but price-wise will not turn into a regular weekday venue.

Wonderful Addition to Downtown Cary
Four of us had a wonderful meal during the evening on the outside patio. We did have to wait a bit longer than most restaurants but the meal was worth the wait. Our waitress (Rupert - Ha!) was excellent with great sense of humor and patio ambience was nice. The wine selection offered a nice variety. This was our third visit and we look forward to more, it is a pleasurable way to support downtown Cary.

Love Academy St. Bistro
I'm so glad we work and live close to Academy Street Bistro! We took our team from work here for lunch and we all enjoyed our meals (paninis, mushroom ravioli and gazpacho to name a few)! The wine selection is succinct, but well appointed. The staff here is incredibly friendly and accommodating. I hear they are working on some ways to improve the acoustics and noise in the main dining area, so if that bothers you, give it some time to be worked out.
Please, please please go visit Academy Street Bistro! You won't be disappointed!

We love the high sophistication
We love the high sophistication of the food. It was time that Cary start having a top restaurant similar to the Bloomsbury in Raleigh. The service is outstanding. Acustic is not good in the main dining area (too loud for us old folks). Otherwise outstanding food which is the reason we will go back.
9/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is a great place to go to get something unique. The food is prepared with real flair. It is a dining experience. Great for special occasions. The only issue I had was the noise level. For the ambience I didn't expect it to be as noisy. No fault of the proprieters. Maybe it was just a group of noisy folks in there that particular evening. Next time we will try dining outdoors. Should be nice with quaint surroundings of downtown Cary.

Exceptional dining experience!
What an extraordinary dining experience! It was our 25th anniversary and we were treated like royalty! The service was exceptional and the food exquisite! Nothing but positive comments for this restaurant!

Great Find in a Local Restaurant
This was a great find for great food, fine service, and a local atmosphere. Food presentation was spectacular.

Truly a neighborhood gem
Four of us had dinner on a Wednesday night, and all of us had excellent meals. I had a cream of Tomato soup that was luscious and my Hopkins Farm frenched chicken dish was superb. Our service was attentive. The ambience is definitely bistro style, and would be noisier if it hadn't been a quiet Wednesday. Highly recommended!

Lovely Food and Experience
What a lovely dinner I had with a friend. The food was fresh and fantastic. The chef was a pleasure and his passion for putting a beautiful dish together was evident. We appreciated the delicate sauces and dressings. The crab cake was all crab meat and the delicious fresh beet and goat cheese salad was fabulous. I would have to say there was only one negative comment and that was they did not have any Chardonnay by the glass available. Even if they had an issue with a distributor, I would have sent someone out for a few bottles to have on hand.
Overall experience with our Server was wonderful and the personal attention from the chef and family was a pleasure.

Nice restaurant, some kinks
Pros: atmosphere is nice, elegant yet comfortable and relaxed, Great outdoor seating
Service was friendly, dinner was delicious.
Cons: service was SLOW - over 2 hours for dinner. Also awkward at times - things arrived out of order - bread after appetizers, no butter on the table... Didn't take our food order until we had long finished the appetizers. A relaxed dinner was Ok, but I can see it irritating some diners.
Appetizers very overpriced. Tomato and mozzarella app was three small slices of cheese and three small tomato wedges. Cheese was delicious, but $10 for that app, not enough to share. Also crab cake was only one...yummy, but the apps weren't worth the extra cost. Dessert was bad - apple crisp was dry and not flavorful.

Academy Street Bistro Wine List
This is a great restaurant with delicious food, but the wine list leaves a lot to be desired. For wine lovers the listings go from Beaulieu Vineyards to Stags Leap, with no in between moderately priced wines.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
From personal care to superb food, ASB is a must do dining experience for the discerning palate.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
I hope it's here 100 years
While the space doesn't yet match Heron's or An, ASB is in their class in terms of the food, staff, chef, and management. This is first rate anywhere.
About us: Eat out in Cary, sometimes elsewhere, pretty much every night.

I had a going away lunch for an employee here. Great service, food, etc. Very nice staff and a great experience.
10/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our dinners at Academy Street Bistro were delicious. The bread and brioche/bun are particularly notable. Seafood was fresh and delicious, though a bit sparse. This is fresh, well-prepared food - for a price!

Waiter was very helpful and professional. The noise level was very high and made it difficult to hear each other at our table. Reservations certainly needed.

Great Cary restaurant
Academy Bistro is a real neighborhood gem. It is a great addition to Cary - sophisticated ambiance, great food, and friendly and professional service. I have been back three times and will continue to promote the Bistro to friends and family.

We were very impressed. The owner of the restaurant called me to make sure we were allowing enough time for dinner and to get to the theatre. She called me from out of town. She was away. When we arrived they knew of our schedule and made sure we were served and ready to go with in the hour. The meal was delicious and our server was amazing.

Excellent crab cake benedict! Other meals very good as well. Loved it all. Best to go before everyone else finds out about this gem. After church on Sunday was not too busy.

Wonderful food and service.
Wonderful food and service. The only complaint is the noise level was so high it was difficult to talk.
I love local restaurants and abhor chains. This truly is a gem for Cary and it is about time!! We already have reservatuons for another visit.

Great place in downtown Cary
There is a seasonal menu and specials each night. The butternut squash bisque and mushroom ravioli were more than we expected! Our server was very friendly, knowledgible and helped with our meal choices. It was a quiet Friday night after Thanksgiving, but on another Friday, I am sure it would be quite nosiy. There is a nice patio for outside dining in warmer weather.
