Fits the Yellow Spring Mood
A little eccentric but friendly. A little small but cozy. Great coffee, Great food. Nice art on the walls and on the staff :) One of my mother's (a 60's child) favorite places to go.

Small and Busy - Make Reservations!
Sunrise Cafe is always a treat, but it is in a very tiny location, so they have to turn people away during busy hours. Definitely call ahead for a reservation. I've eaten there about a half-dozen times, and each time has been rewarding. The only reason I did not give the full five stars for the Food category is that a buffalo burger I had there once was badly overcooked, and the two times I've ordered scrambled eggs with my breakfast resulted in minor disappointment. To be fair, I've only had good scrambled eggs once or twice in a lifetime of eating out - it's that one simple dish that almost no restaurant can do well. Service is always great, friendly, and - true to Yellow Springs' fun cultural mix - colorful.

College cafe meets artists' village
In a college town coffee shop surrounding, people who care about high quality food, prepare very tasty offerings. Most of the preparations are from organic, fresh, and natural ingredients. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner offerings are, all, delicious. Many vegetarian alternatives are available. I recommend the Hungry Mexican omelet, the unique organic whole grain French Toast, the salmon, and the Waygu sirloin. Because of the fresh organic eggs and the caring preparation something as simple as poached eggs are divine.

This is a unique little place. Upon first glance at the restaurant, I would not have guessed that they were serving such delicious food. I love the focus on organic, local foods. The combinations were unique and interesting and most importantly full of wonderful flavor! I also loved that they had interesting thoughtful vegetarian and vegan options. The service was very good and you absolutely can't beat the price for this quality of food! We will definitely be back! I highly recommend Sunrise Cafe!

This restraunt has something for everyone and an excellent staff! While the noise might be a little loud since its so tiny, it doesn't detract from the experience at all!
I'd highly recommend a reservation though as they were very busy even on a Thursday.

Sunrise is the best!
This is one of Yellow Spring's gems. They take reservations and even though I've only been there twice, I already feel like a regular. The staff is incredibly open and friendly, and the food is great. Their revolving specials have never failed to impress me or my companions. Definitely a must try!

Patience required, Worth the wait
Positive: Food: Excellent from vegetarian dishes to the duck. Atmosphere: Casual being a mix of local town people & visitors, lots of laughter & chatter. Waiter worked to keep us satisfied despite things beyond his control. Prompt, efficient, friendly.
Not-so-positive side: Despite reservation, as restaurant is small, the one table that would have seated the 5 of us was still occupied by a lingering group...which is their privilege, of course. So we were seated in a smaller booth with one person in the aisle. Wasn't a problem, but plan to be flexible. Kitchen was slow and the duck was served 10 minutes after other meals, much to the chagrin of the waiter, but not charged for that meal. Plan to be flexible and will be most enjoyable!

We had great food, I had steak,
We had great food, I had steak, kale and sweet potatoes, and they way they were prepared, which was extraordinary, I couldn't tell you which part of the meal was better, because all were tasty. Oh yes and then there was the salad with the homemade dressing and the best bread/roll I have ever had. I may have to travel back up there just to eat. It was the BEST!

The Sunrise Cafe is small
The Sunrise Cafe is small but the food is AWESOME! They use organic, locally sourced ingredients and offer a huge variety of choices. Your missing out if you don't dine at the Sunrise Cafe!

When I travel back to Springfield from NYC, I always make the trip over to Sunrise for their breakfast. Excellent.

Excellent Late Night Dinner
We arrived late at 9:45pm, but the staff seated us and we were treated to an excellent late night dinner.

nice evening out
We went here for our wedding anniversary and had a great evening. The food was great. The seating was private and intimate. We did not feel rushed and enjoyed everything about our experience.

Great breakfast find
Was taken to Sunrise last week by a friend for breakfast. I enjoyed it so much I took my wife on Thursday. I love pancakes, and these are maybe the best I have had. Love the crispy edges and the fact that they are not too thick. The melted butter and real maple syrup topped it off. Also had the Mexican Omelette the second time. Packed with good stuff and very fresh.

we love the food and ambience at sunrise - we just wish it was larger.

A favorite of ours....
We love Sunrise Cafe! We've become regulars over the years, enjoying the tasty food, friendly service, and a quiet booth.

I'd tried it, raved about it, and suggested to a friend, a fellow meatloaf enthusiast, that we meet some Wednesday evening for Sunrise's meatloaf. We were not disappointed. From start to finish, our experience was a positive one. We received a friendly acknowledgment when we entered, were promptly shown to a booth, and received consistently excellent serving attention--personable, efficient--from Billy. An all- round enjoyable meal, with the food meeting Sunrise's always-high standards for prep and presentation.
Sunrise's pricing? Moderate. A big plus? The commitment to use local/area products for their delicious, creative fare.
I encourage you to try this gem of restaurant in Yellow Springs.

it was the first but definitely
it was the first but definitely not my last time to have their pancakes..if some one makes a better breakfast I do not need to know it.

We went to Sunrise Café for a summer dinner and everything we ate, from the homemade rolls and fresh salad with homemade dressing, to our dinners, to the wine we chose was fantastic! So great to find such a good place, not far from home, and be able to taste food that is prepared wonderfully, with fresh ingredients. It is obviously a busy place, so it is a good thing they take reservations! Our server was excellent, also. We will be back many times!

Loved our organic lunch at Sunrise Cafe in artsy Yellow Springs. Several options on the menu for vegan diners. Had the salad sampler with hummus, sunflower kale salad, and red potatoes. Super yummy.

The sun rises and sets at Sunrise
My husband and I agree that the Sunrise Cafe is the best eatery in Yellow Springs. Everytime we visit the town, we eat at least one meal at this cafe. Not only is the food creative and delicious, it accommodates all types of dietary regiments. We love how fresh everything tastes and that many of the ingredients are locally grown. We are always recommending this place to friends heading to Yellow Springs!!!
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Entertaining an out of town friend, this place was eclectic and the food was delish!
9/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Definitely a Leader
If you care about you eat, and like it when a restaurant discloses what it is really serving, then this is the place for you.
Very good restaurant for this area of the country.

I can't say enough about the
I can't say enough about the Sunrise Café. They have an incredible menu that is prepared with fresh, organic local food items. You can taste the difference. I also love that they have nice vegetarian selections on their menu, as well. Their vegetarian "reuben" is the best I have ever eaten. Each bite is better than the last one! I love to get a mimosa with my breakfast, great way to start the morning! I almost feel like saying its a guarantee you will love it, I am that sure about it, lol!
Use opentable.com to reserve a table, as it is a quaint little place, and could fill us quickly. Be ahead of the game!
Most of all, enjoy!!

A nice little restaurant with excellent food....the specials each week are different and unusual!

Who knew? Yellow Springs gem.
We 3 enjoyed a most pleasant dinner @Sunrise Cafe. From exterior, I assumed perhaps simple menu & food. Not so! Food was exceptional - creative, delicious...our waiter - very knowledgeable, guided us well. Especially important for me as I must be strictly gluten free - many options; 3 or 4 great sounding specials, many menu choices incl. vegan/ g-free. There are creative EXPERTS in this kitchen - GO!! Only issue -seated in booth near what turned out to be a partition to the kitchen - open top/bottom- lot of dishes clanking together, lot of noise. If weather been nicer, outdoor area would've been great, tho we did enjoy all the paintings/murals...a most fun, interesting decor. Would definitely return & recommend!

Great find in a small town
Great find in a small town close to Dayton and not too far from Columbus. A bit quirky (which goes with the local territory) with very good food in a cozy if humble setting. I'd certainly make a point to go again if I were close to the area.

Gluten-free/ vegetarian gem
GREAT food choices for Gluten-free or vegetarian! The sweet potato latkas were YUM!

I took my sister out to this fantastic cafe down in Yellow Springs over the weekend. Food was great, service was even better. I recommend making reservations. We went on Saturday for brunch and if we hadn't of had reservations we would have been waiting a long long while (just because everyone wants to eat there!)
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food from the heart
The first time we ate here we did not make a reservation - but they squeezed us in saying "We just love to feed people good food." That was over a year ago, and we keep comming back. I reccomend the expresso martini, the scallops are always good as is the buffalo burger. Overall, you won't find a more creative and delicious menu prepared with more care.

We all love the awesome pancakes.
We all love the awesome pancakes. They are light and crispy and served with melted butter and warm syrup. They are to die for! Others had omelets which serve fresh ingredients and are excellent. We love to come to this place. Only problem, you need to make a reservation because it is always crowded. Paul is fantastic and fun to banter with.

Fine main course--but dessert?
We love the Sunrise having gone there for over 20 years. We were given one of the more quiet tables where we could hold conversation, as we had requested. The main dish choices were very good, we all enjoyed our choices. The two different desserts were disappointing. The crust of the ordinary pumpkin pie could not be cut with fork or knife. It was very hard to chew also, and had no flavor. The carmel sauce on the pumpkin bread pudding was so excessively sweet, and full of undissolved sugar crystals, that we dessert and candy lovers could not eat it. The bread pudding itself was delicious.

Had a wonderful breakfast with a stellar wait staff!
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
fun with foodies
Dinner was fantastic. They specialize in local organic, seasonal produce. Our server was not what you would expect for the level and price of the food but we worked with that. Our meals were so delicious that we returned the next morning for an equally delicious breakfast and far better service. We love to cook, grow our own food and rarely dine out because frankly we cook better at home unless you're talking about the Sunrise. We were visiting Yellow Springs for the weekend, if we lived there it would be a regular spot for dining out. Go, you'll love it!

My sister and I drive to Yellow Springs once a year from Cincinnati. We discovered the Sunrise Cafe about 10 years ago (?) and we love everything about it...

Great Spot for Organic Food Eaters
This is a nice non-chain restaurant with very solid organic food options (including organic sodas). My vegan and vegetarians will have a few options as well. The food is quality and service is friendly.
