San Diego's best Indian food!
This was the third time we've had Royal India but the first time eating at the restaurant (downtown location). San Diego offers a diverse selection of ethnic cuisine and there are many choices...particularly for Indian food. This is by far the best the city has to offer. Their food is very fresh and consistently delicious. So when trying to make a decision as to where you're going to eat...it's a no-brainier. Royal India. You'll be saying the same thing. *For beer lovers, I recommend enjoying a nice pint of Royal India Pale Ale with your meal. It's a match made in heaven. :)

Great service, excellent food
Came here with 4 friends for a moms' night out.
Hostess was very accommodating with our seating request. Our waitress and all the service staff we encountered were friendly, patient and attentive. All the dishes we ordered were delicious. Our group ranged from native to India, new to Indian cuisine, to picky eater. Everyone was pleased! Will definitely return and would highly recommend this restaurant.

Was in town for business, had a lamb curry and naan bread. Everything was very delicious and great service. Also reasonable prices for the San Diego area.

We visited Royal India on
We visited Royal India on our Memorial Day vacation in San Diego. We originally heard about it through Groupin deal but would definitely go back next time we are in SD. We were seated next to a waterfall and served very promptly. Service was attentive and friendly but not overbearing. Food was fabulous and spiciness was custom to order for each dish. Strongly recommend Royal India!!

Good Indian Food
We were here for an early dinner (5:30 PM) before the theater. The restaurant was fairly empty because of the hour. The food and service were good. The server seemed confused by our wine order and we had to point out the wines on the menu despite the fact that we were ordering wines by the glass, which I would expect to be familiar. The food was good and I was impressed that basmati rice is included with the entrees and they would gladly bring more if requested. They did not have saffron rice which was a little disappointing. The naan and bengan bharta were excellent. The ambiance was ok but a little run down. I was just with a friend for a causal dinner so it was fine but I wouldn't go here on a date necessarily unless it was very casual.

special occasion dinner
Being it our 9th wedding anniversary we requested one of their best tables and we were sat at a table for 2 in front of the waterfall. Very nice. Our reservation was for 5:30 on a Monday evening so the restaurant was not busy at all. Food was good; we ordered our curries medium spiced and that level definately had a kick. The pappadum and garlic naan is phenomenal. Our only negative comment is that the chicken pieces were too small. Overall a very good dining experience and we will go back.

Very Good Experience on All Levels
We went as a group of 7. We were seated promptly. 2 had never been to an Indian restaurant previously, and 1 had never eaten lamb. The waiter was helpful on making the choices for those who had not previously been exposed to what is my favorite ethnic cuisine. The food was delicious, and the servings were generous. Everyone - including those for whom this was a new experience - said that they really enjoyed the dinner. I know that I did. I would return tomorrow if I lived in San Diego.
I noticed later that there was an 18% gratuity added to the check. I had added another tip. I called the restaurant, spoke with our waiter, and my credit card already (in 2 days) has been credited with the amount of the additional gratuity.

Decor is tasteful and appropriate, food delicious, especially the naan, and moderately priced. Only problem we had was that we visited with a coupon from the newspaper. It wasn't clear if it the price was for one or two persons or how many portions you received. Unfortunately the server was very confused as well, but did his best to make us happy. Curry was wonderful - would definitely go back again when looking for Indian food in San Diego.

Take a Step into a Royal Restaurant
From the moment you walk in the door you are immersed in a plethora of delicious smelling entrees and beautiful traditional acoustic Indian music. After taking a look around, you might think that you have stepped into some sort of Indian palace. There are gilded arches and a sparkling fountain covers the back wall. Each one of the plush, red and gold booths look like royal thrones and are delightful to sit down in. The food was delicious. We really enjoyed the Korma curry. All of our food was delicious, we just felt like we have had better Indian food at other restaurants. However, the atmosphere is unbeatable. I took my girlfriend here and we had a great time, I'd recommend it for romantic dates as it is very quiet and peaceful there.

Food was excellent, really
Food was excellent, really delicious. Service was good but a little slow. Parking was a problem. Awesome martini! Ambiance was better inside than outside.

The food was very good, as was the service and atmosphere. The only thing not so good thing was that our main dish was served shortly our very hot soup arrived. So by the time we got to the main dish, it was almost cold.

I had a surprise birthday dinner for my husband here. (About 12 of us) the service was fantastic, appetizers and food served in a timely manner. The food. .the food was THE BEST indian cuisine I've ever eaten. Explosion of flavors! Our friends really enjoyed as several had never eaten Indian. We will be back again and often!

Excellent as Always
Simply put...maybe the best Indian food in San Diego. Get there early...half the restaurant was reserved for a special event. Before we had our entrees, the rest of the tables - inside and out - were filled.

Best Indian Food
The food is to die for! Great location in Gaslamp Quarter. We come here every year when in San Diego on business and every year it was the best dining experience of the trip and we wish we ate there every night! I guess the place is on the more expensive side for San Diego standards, but I'm from NYC, so I think the prices are more than reasonable and well worth the quality of food! Only downside... They don't serve coffee! But there's a Starbucks right next store!

Very nice and peaceful!
This restaurant had a nice, quiet ambiance, just off the main trek in gaslamp, but it made a world of difference! Food was delicious, service was great. Overall, very nice, but a bit pricey.. For $2 of us with one entree and garlic naan (no drinks, appetizers, or dessert) total was just over $50.

Fine Dining at Royal India
Wonderful downtown San Diego location and an easy walk from the main business and shopping district. I sanpled the naan, lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Tikka Masala and Vegetarian Korma. They were all authentic, full of flavor, with just the right amount of spice and made with fresh ingredients. Two thumbs up on service and the food. Will definitely come back!
