Lovely local bistro with well
Lovely local bistro with well prepared food. Definitely will return. The wine pairing pours could be a little more generous.

The concept is great, however,
The concept is great, however, the meal we had was only okay. Of the 6 courses we had, two were fantastic, but not everything was so successful. We were super impressed that the chef did everything alone in the kitchen, right down to garnishes, and we enjoyed sitting at the bar where we had a great view and got to chat with him a bit. We'd definitely come again when another chef is cooking.

We celebrated my husband's 40th birthday at Guest Chef and were so pleased with our experience. Phenomenal food, interesting wine pairings and an intimate atmosphere made it a perfect night. Love the concept of this restaurant and may very well return when I'm back in town.

GC is like a box of chocolates...
You never know what you are going to get. We had a great meal with a lot of unique dishes (like pulled pork wrapped in a mac and cheese fritter)... we really enjoyed the experience! It's a pre-fix dinner and it changes with each - Guest Chef. I would definitely recommend the wine parings - they helped make the meal. We look forward to trying it again with a new guest chef!

Unique and exciting!
Love this idea! Unique and exciting restaurant with rotating chefs. We will definitely be back!

Our chef was Paul. We sat at the counter and chatted with him while he cooked our dinner. His food was terrific. At first I was concerned about the $40 per person, but one could easily rack up that kind of tab at any restaurant once you consider appetizers, entree, dessert. Too bad this place is closing and we just happened to stumble in right before.

The appetizer's were awesome as was the dessert and salad. Very Fresh. Great twist on cheesecake for a savory appetizer. My personal favorite of the evening.
Disappointing main course. The fish was dry. The rice dish was mushy. The veggie's were perfect.
Dessert of Berry Crumble was perfection!
Thank you Guest Chef

We had a great time and the food was fantastic! The restaurant is small, but perfect for an intimate evening with close friends. The Chefs did a great job on the food preparation and presentation. They also reached out to the customers to add the warm touch. Well trained and friendly staff. Will return with more friends next week if they are open!

Fabulous food and great service!
Guest Chef is a real find! We were treated to an amazing 4 course meal that could stand up to many of the best San Francisco restaurants....at less than half the price. Everything was clearly prepared with the greatest care and freshest ingredients. Even housemade butter and goat cheese. Lamb chops prepared sous vide had just the right herb-infused flavor and fried chicken was the best my husband has had (and he's a Southerner!) The warm blueberry crumble with lavender ice cream was the perfect ending note. Service was charming and unhurried, friendly but non-intrusive. The chef came out to meet us and chat briefly about the evening's menu. All in all, a fabulous evening!

Saying goodbye to a great restauran
I will miss Guest Chef -- love the idea and variety of this pop-up restaurant.

Wonderful food - especially the fish and the potatoes! Very nice space, and the guitarist was lovely. The only things we would add are small plants or flowers on the tables for a little bit of green, and perhaps some bread with olive oil and vinegar as a start.

Pucquio is my new favorite
Pucquio is my new favorite spot for Peruvian food! Excellent food!!! The Ceviches are Yummy!!!! Excellent service!

Great Peruvian food
Guest Chef in Oakland is becoming Pucquio, a great new Peruvian restaurant in Rockridge. The Cebiches were great, the whole fish was perfect and everything we saw from the kitchen looked spectacular. The space is so intimate that it's like the chef is cooking in your own kitchen. The chef worked at Ozomu and Fifth Floor and is now expressing his personal history and passion for his traditional cuisine in this location.

Pucquio is outstanding!,,,,,,,
Contemporary Peruvian street food. Well if this is what you eaton the street....WOW! The food is fresh. The variety is wonderful. Chef Carlos is exquisite . The staff is knowledgable and very informed about the food prep and the menu. Great menu, go there ASAP.

Terrific New Spot
A great new restaurant (Pucquio) has taken over "Guest Chef" in Rockridge. Food was wonderful -- lovingly crafted is really the best way to put it. The staff was attentive and extremely informative about each dish. We left fully satisfied! Hope they stick around for a LONG time.

my boyfriend and I happened to walk past this restaurant one day and decided we had to come back for dinner. the good was absolutely delicious, with great flavors and fresh ingredients. service was very personable and informative about the dishes. great find!

Very good dishes
We had the fixe price dinners and everything was terrific. It's a small menu but the chef mastered every dish brought to our table. We didn't know what to expect but we left happy.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food here is spectacular, creative and feast for the eyes. I would recommend you get there early as people like to stay for a long time once they are seated which is a good reflection on the food and ambiance. Bon appetite!
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love the food
I'd definitely go back, but several things to keep in mind. The place is tiny, and there's only one chef so it takes a while to get your food. The price is also on the high side, and they still need to work out on a few minor details like keeping track of what customers ordered. We ordered one prix fixe which was initially not on our tab until we brought it up.

love ceviche? you'll love Pucquio
Best seat in the house is at the counter overlooking the kitchen. This was our first visit. We were entertained watching and talking to Carlos, the owner/chef as he created the various ceviches on his menu. The whole deep fried fish however was the best of all. Very light on the outside and moist and full of flavor within. Served with tiny and amazingly flavorful garlic chips it was a delight.
The ceviche: sea bass and pulpy olio were both amazing as well.

A great addition to rockridge. Incredible food cannot wait to return. Cebiches were unique and delicious. Best quinoue salad every. Both seafood and beef dishes were excellent.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
We sampled one of the ceviches, two cold plates and 2 hot plates + their home-made ice-cream . All the seafood was very fresh and well prepared with very generous portions. There were many types of ceviche to sample. However, it would have been nice to have more variety to choose from among the other cold appetizers and the hot main courses. The service was very gracious and welcoming including the special item (fried yucca) that the chef brought to our table to substitute for the french fries that were to accompany one of the main dishes and which we had declined.

Peruvian neighborhood gem
We enjoyed our dining experience at Pucquio. The seafood dishes were excellent, however, if one does not enjoy fish or seafood, there is very little to eat, except for one beef dish. No chicken and few vegetarian offerings, which made it difficult for my companion to dine here. The servings are on the smaller side, but excellently prepared and presented.

A new East Bay must
Interesting selection, well prepared. Be prepared for a liesurely dine as the service was slow. But there was not rush and we very much enjoyed the visit.

Fresh, fabulous food!
Terrific experience- everything was delicious. Fresh, flavoursome, unique food from appetizers to dessert. And really nice people- this is exactly the kind of restaurant we should support! Loved it and highly recommend.

Satisfying Introduction to Peruvian
Three of us came to celebrate our birthdays and chose selections from the prix-fixe menu. The food was surprisingly sophisticated and presented in a "California" style that I had not expected. Our waitress was warm and friendly. She took care to explain each dish and its ingredients to us. The fish and seafood appetizers were sparkling fresh. My favorite was the rich smoky sauce that accompanied the seafood combination entre. Don't miss the refreshing fruit punch (I forget what it's called). I hope they expand the menu as their following grows.

Terrific Peruvian food. Attentive
Terrific Peruvian food. Attentive service. The food took time to prepare, but I think it's because we had an early (6:00 pm) reservation and the kitchen was just gearing up.
11/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was great, the ambiance was friendly. one note however, if you don't have the time to sit an enjoy your meal...
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Tiny space, smallish portions
Exquisite fare. Don't miss the TucoTuco
