Restaurant Week Deal
First time to Kitchen Trattoria but I've been to Kitchen Bistro many times. The food was excellent as always, that service was a bit slow but they were busy with many tables for the restaurant week special. I love that we can come back again for the prix fix! I'll have to try Orto and find out which is my favorite.

Wonderfully, delicious dinner
Everything was so fresh and delicious. I love the fact that you can bring your own wine. And also, even though it was restaurant week, the menu choices were top notch.

Great food, unlikely location
We 'be been to this restaurant several times and have never been anything but thrilled with the food . The decor is simple but with only 8 tables it's not the kind of place you can usually just walk in. In our experience there aren't too many restaurants in mid Suffolk County with excellent food at a reasonable price. This is one.

Kitchen A Trattoria pairs
Kitchen A Trattoria pairs amazing food, at a fair price with the opportunity to bring your own wine or craft beer for pairing. The menu is exciting and dynamic, you can come back month after month and have completely different experiences. This restaurant is recommended for a great night out. Best enjoyed in small parties as the restaurant is small.

Best restaurant on LI
We have been dining at the Kitchen a Bistro & Kitchen a Trattoria since they first opened years ago. We frequent the Trattoria often because of the fabulous culinary skills and the reasonable price.

This is our family's favorite restaurant on Long Island. The service is attentive and welcoming and the food is always delicious and carefully prepared. We have enjoyed very much every meal we have had here!
6/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
The problem was selecting what to order - there were so many good choices. Everything was delicious. The BYOB policy makes the cost of dining reasonable. The only thing that would make it better was if they took credit cards.
6/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food is always 100% fantastic and priced very reasonably. Bring your own wine/beer which makes it a fun dining experience. You'd never expect it to be such an amazing restaurant but EVERYONE must eat here!

Great take on Italian food.
Great take on Italian food. Not your typical Chicken Parm. Portions are reasonable sized by a $35 price fix for three courses is well worth it. Bring you own wine to save even more.
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
It gets really hot and stuffy inside the very small restaurant, but the food is well worth it! Can't wait to go again.

Always great food
This restaurant is known for its exceptional food, and this meal did not disappoint. The room is small, crowded and lively. I was prepared for that, so it wasn't an evening killer. I had the roasted figs app, roasted trout for main and tiramisu dessert. Only the tiramisu was ordinary, the figs and trout were extraordinary. Menu limited, so disappointed to find they were out of two dishes. The biggest downside to this place is trying to decide what to order. Everything sounds spectacular. Three course price fix was $76 for two. A great meal, great price. BYO policy helps! Very happy they now take reservations because you used to have to wait in line for hours. Highly, highly recommended.

This restaurant has excellent food at a reasonable price with outstanding service. There menu changes every few weeks which keeps it fresh for the regulars. I highly recommend this gem.

Hard to Find, but worth the effort!
Kitchen Trattoria is a "find." It's a tiny little place with an open kitchen. The food is wholesome and outstanding, and consistently so. New to the menu this month is mussels with roasted corn, which I loved! Ingredients are fresh and everything is cooked to order.
The wait staff is extremely friendly and eager to please. Steve, the chef, knows how to cook!!!! Bring your own wine; they supply the corkscrew and the glasses!

Keep it a secret.....
This is our favorite restaurant on Long Island! The food is outstanding and since we live nearby we consider it a "neighborhood gem". It is small, so we don't like to spread the word too much.....a culinary masterpiece!!!!!

Great food and attentive service.
Great food and attentive service. The fact that they don't rush you is a great and rare thing on Long Island .

IF I WASN'T ALREADY MARRIED...
... I might propose to the chef! That meal was EXQUISITE! As an appetizer, I had the fresh ricotta and egg ravioli. This might be the best thing I have ever eaten! I'm a sucker for an egg yolk, and this brought it to a new level! O-M-G!!!! To top it off, I always get the biscotti with gelato for dessert, since they make the BEST biscotti. The gelato of the day was FIG! THIS WAS AMAZING!!!! And service was top notch as usual. The staff is so warm and inviting.

tiny place, terrific food
We were four people. The restaurant is tiny. I counted 28 seats. They have no liquor license, so everybody brings their own wine, which is a tremendous advantage, since the food is good enough to deserve the level of wine that most of us probably couldn't afford to pay for at most restaurant markups. The ambience is kind of country kitchen. The menu, however, and the dishes, are imaginative and everything we had was well presented and delicious. The waitstaff is friendly, knowledgable, and eager to please (and very efficient). Although we live 40 minutes from Kitchen A Trattoria, we will be happy to return.

wonderful small restaurant
I went to Kitchen A Trattoria with my girlfriend. It is a small (9 tables) restaurant with an open kitchen. You are permitted to bring your own wine or beer, and we ordered off the prix-fixe menu ($35.00). We both had the roasted corn pudding with grilled trumpet mushrooms for an appetizer- delicious, then went on to have their triggerfish with roasted eggplant and a roasted pork dish- both excellent. We also settled on the same dessert- a flourless almond-chocolate cake with vanilla gelato. Great!

The Food Is The Star
We have dined at KAT several times and each time we are wowed by the outstanding quality of the food.
The limited space is soon forgotten, when the first course arrives. We hope that they never get a liquor license,
because the BYOB policy suits us just fine. Reservations on the weekend are a must.

What can I say this restaurant is a dream come true my best friend and I love to have dining experiences together and this certainly did not disappoint! What an experience it was were still talking about it!!!
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food and BYOB!
This very casual small place has delicious homey, yet imaginative food. And the best hard crusted bread! Our favorite was the crispy egg appetizer. Try it! No clue how they bread and fry an egg, then put it over a beautifully flavored salad. Wow! This place is consistently excellent.

Want to keep this one for ourselves
We hate to recommend this restaurant because it's so small and cozy and we want to keep it that way..........The food is so wonderful and the service staff makes you feel as if you are dining in a private home. When my husband and I were about to order two of the same appetizers and two same main courses, the server said, "If you're eating the same thing, you may as well have stayed home and cooked!" She was so right!! We changed our ordered and shared mussels in Sambuca and tarragon cream that I dream about..........luscious pappardelle with Bolognese sauce........then, we shared perfectly cooked pork loin with Tuscan kale and beans and crispy roasted chicken. We were stuffed, but still managed desserts!! This place is very special.

The focus here is on the food,
The focus here is on the food, which is very reasonably priced for the excellent quality, especially for Long Island. There is a real care in preparation. I had a nice broiled arctic char over lentils and polenta with a basil olive oil drizzle. The regularity with which they get fish and duck cooked perfectly is impressive. It is a tiny space, very intimate with the kitchen right there. The wait staff are very casual and friendly and responsive. The noise from customers, the kitchen and the music can be loud at times, but not as as loud as some places. I actually find it charming and like to come with my wife here, but some might be put off.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
looks like a dive but
The food is excellent, very rustic Italian, loved it. We had the cod and pork loin, both were top notch. The bring your own wine is a plus for us. We had friends join us and they were more than satisfied with their meals as well. Very small and stinks if you have the table next to the door when its cold.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kitchen A Trattoria. The food is always top notch and the servers are great. It was VERY loud, but my group and another birthday group were the culprits! I went with 9 girlfriends for my birthday celebration and we all had an AMAZING time! Fig gelato is to die for! Also love the baked clams!

OMG. It doesnt get any better. Love the hustle and bustle of the cooking in the restaurant and closeness of the tables. Some may not but it is enteetain, wnt. Food unmatched and server graciously accomodated all our requests. Orchiette was divine. Trout fresh and all prepared impeccably. I hVe had better desserts there but no complaints. And will go back soon.

First time dining here after
First time dining here after reading many great reviews. Lived up to the billing. The food is outstanding. No wine list but BYOB with no corkage fee. The restaurant, located at the back end of a nondescript strip mall, is small (seats 30 people at full capacity), so you will need reservations especially during weekend peak dining hours. No bar or waiting area, be prepared to wait inside the entrance for your table Service is attentive and unhurried.

Big Food in a Small Place
You go to KAT for the food. The food is amazing, interesting choices, well prepared, friendly service. You don't go to KAT for the ambience or spaciousness. Small space, about 12 tables or so. No waiting area, no bar, no credit cards. That said, order the home made Ricotta with your bread, , Meatballs or Baked Clams appetizer, Red Wine Brasato, Hake or Pork Loin. Dinner for two < $100

Consistently good food.
I've been dinning here for many years and have never been disappointed with the quality of the food.

warm and wonderful
this tiny restaurant, aptly named the kitchen, provides a warm wonderful atmosphere and excellent food. The menu is small enough that everything on it is made with excellence. I dined with a trained chef who shared my opinion. service is wonderful, priced appropriately and bring your own wine makes it a perfect choice.

My husband and I went here after reading all of the great reviews, and for the most part we weren't disappointed. The prices are very reasonable thanks to the price fix menu, and the food was very good. We started with some homemade ricotta for our bread and an appetizer of butternut squash soup. As an entree, I got gnocchi in hen sauce and my husband got the lasagna. Everything was delicious. The only disappointment was the dessert which was only okay. I got the flourless chocolate cake and my husband got some kind of apple tarte. Both were pretty lackluster compared to how good everything else was. That being said, I think that we will definitely be coming back again.

One of our favorite restaurants - and Chef Steve is now the owner!
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Reliably fun and tasty
Congratulations to Steve and Jessica for buying the restaurant! Nothing has changed, meaning it's as reliably tasty, friendly, comfortable and fun as always. This is small place and a bit more soundproofing might be good, but everyone is having a good time because there are always selections to fit your mood. I didn't want meat last night, so I had bucatini carbonara and eggplant parmesan with a goat cheese panna cota for dessert. Bring your own wine. Perfect!
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great fresh food with the added bonus of BYOW with no corking fee.

Best Restaurant around!!!
We have been going to The trattoria since it's opening many years ago( different owners, different names)---it only gets better each time----a real neighborhood gem

Great menu. Went with the chef's tasting menu. Theme of the evening would soon become 'just a little salt' -- Soup course was average (tomato based chicken veggie soup) but needed a pinch of salt to taste above average. Salad was tasty. Fish course was cooked perfectly with delicious veggies making for a very nice plating but also needed a little salt. This more than the others was extremely bland without the added salt, but delicious with. The pork was succulent with a pinch of Salt. We were stuffed when the marrow risotto came but this was succulent and perfect. We all took it to go with visions of some over easy eggs on top in the AM. Will def be back for an another try some time soon. Just a little salt. Could be epic.
