Solo Trattoria a winner
This is a new-to-Phoenix family restaurant operated by an experienced and creative mother and sons team. Their chef is excellent, the taste combinations inventive and expertly prepared, and the presentation exquisite. The young wait staff members are well trained, friendly, and attentive. I think this is a winner and will be returning soon.

Great little place with good
Great little place with good food and very pleasant service.

Hidden in a corridor off Camelback Rd with no street view Solo is gem worth searching for. The setting is a step up and fit for a special occasion or date, the staff willing and knowledgeable. The chef often has a whimsical approach to his dishes. You will find little wink’s in his pasta creations and specials. A mortadella agnolotti pasta is an analog to childhood favorite bologna and cheese while the English Pea Cappelletti en Brodo is essentially an Italian Wonton soup. If you have the time and appetite take a run at the Chefs tasting menu …you won’t be left wanting.

Ham & Figs Pizza!
Very impressed with my first visit to Solo Trattoria during Restaurant Week. My party of three opted for the fixed price menu ($30) and enjoyed every bite. I started with the burrata over heirloom tomatoes with a lovely pesto. Great flavors and texture. But the entree was my favorite -- Ham & Figs pizza is a toothsome chewy crust with prosciutto and figs - YUM. Dessert was Oatmeal Stout panna cotta served with homemade blueberry jam. Not terribly sweet which I really appreciated. My companions had a berry soup with tiny floating olive oil cakelets which was also delicious.

I had read prior reviews before hitting Solo this past Friday, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The solo caprese and meatballs were two delicious appetizers, and the Tagliatelle Carbonara and Gnocchi alla Romana as an entree were unbelievable! The food was so outstanding I will definitely come back to try some new items, but also to refamiliarize myself with the caprese and meatballs one more time!!!

Another try at the Esplanade
The Esplanade does not seem to be a great restaurant location, since no restaurant has lasted for a long time there. Part of it may be dealing with parking in the garage (though you can avoid that by getting valet parking at Solo Trattoria). Even though we went on a Saturday night, most of the tables were empty when we got there. Service was friendly and attentive, and the food was good, if not especially exciting. The beet salad was excellent, probably the best I have had. Menu is a bit limited; prices are reasonable.

This place was fantastic italian and very unique. Has limited menu that changes seasonably and quite a variety. It was all very delicious and service was top notch. I would defintely go again.

Great homemade pasta and excellent, surprising flavors!
7/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was wonderful, but the portions were a little small for the price, even for lunch.

Had a magnificent experience on our honeymoon dining at Solo. Food was elegantly presented and equally prepared. Owners bring their Mid-west hospitality to the big city. Jen and her sons did a wonderful job making our night as special as possible. John, one of the sons, went so far as inviting us back for a weekend special gift card. Wish we lived closer as this would be one of our regular stops.
7/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Hidden away and difficult parking made the experience a small challenge. But, the service and food were worth the search. Small location so can imagine lively atmosphere during prime time. We eat later than most so no problem holding a conversation.

This was our second time here, while the food was just as good as the first time, the service was not. Our server (woman with brown bob and bangs) seemed very rushed, and was short with answering questions about the menu and wine list. She forgot to mention the specials to us, so after we had finished our meal, we had overheard another server telling the table next to us that there was red velvet cake on special (our favorite). While the desserts we had were quit good, it would have been nice to know our options, as we would have definitely ordered the red velvet cake instead.

A nice surprise
Our first time dining in the newly opened restaurant was not a disappointment. The food is fresh Italian with local ingredients. The wine list is small but inclusive with several from Italy as well as from local AZ vineyards. We shared a made that day (house-made) pasta dish as an appetizer that was fantastic. My Tuscan Flat Iron Steak was perfectly done and flavorful. The Ricotta Gnocchi was a bit of a disappointment: The cream sauce was excellent, but the gnocchi did not have much flavor. For dessert, we shared the Red Velvet Cake. If you like red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, pass on this one. It was small, naked, dry but was paired with fantastic fresh vanilla gelato.

the pizza crust is divine!
The buratta cheese in the caprese salad was outstanding ... the pizza crust rivals any I have had here or in NYC (or Chicago) ... the food was really good and the value was fantastic! Will be back.

We went there on a Tuesday,
We went there on a Tuesday, and it was not very crowded. I think the location can be hard to find, it's at the Esplanade where the old Picazzo's used to be. It's super cute inside and has a great feel to it. We ordered the salad, pizza, and a pasta dish. Everything was outstanding. The pizza was awesome with a great crust and lots of flavor. I shared it with my girlfriend and it was more than enough for the two of us.
Everything was outstanding and I would highly recommend going!

We went for our anniversary and the atmosphere was perfect! Friendly staff! Food was amazing!

You have to eat here
Seriously, Phoenix finally has a great restaurant for a fair price. Skip the chains and over priced whose across the street at Biltmore Fashion Square and come here instead. You'll make friends with the owners your first visit, and your second visit (and there will be a second visit) you'll be family. Could become your new favorite with great craft beers, local AZ wines, creative dishes, service that is superb, and desserts that you have to try cuz no words can describe how wonderful they are. Lunch is ridiculously cheap. Awesome place!

So glad we discovered it!
This restaurant, hands down, is the best Italian food we've had in Phoenix. Having moved here 2 years ago from the DC area, we've struggled to find innovative Italian-inspired dishes at a reasonable price. Look no further - Solo Trattoria delivers. Incredible flavors, outstanding attention to detail, family-run business, and a chef who has all sorts of personal touches, and truly wishes to get to know his patrons. Can't ask for anything more. It's our new favorite restaurant.

Simple, but authentic and delicious
The food at Solo is simple, but very authentic and delicious. I have been to Italy many times and just returned from a two-week vacation to Northern Italy. Solo's food was better than most of the restaurants on my most recent trip. Solo has a nice dining room and an even better patio. The bar is also nice. Although the service is not polished, the wait staff is attentive and well meaning. Solo is located in a large commercial complex, which does not see much traffic at night or on the weekends. If Solo were in a better location, it would be one of the busiest Italian restaurants in Phoenix. I would encourage Phoenicians to make an effort to dine at Solo.

The service was wonderful
The service was wonderful and the food was very fresh and satisfying . The atmosphere was very comfortable and easily could go for any occasion . I will definitely recommend this restaurant as well as be a regular .

Dined here for our anniversary. We ordered the 4 course Chef's tasting menu. All 4 courses were different from the norm and delicious. The service was fantastic, the chef came out to make sure we approved of his creations... we definitely did.

Off hours delight
We stopped by a Thursday night at 8:00 and found the restaurant quiet with few diners remaining. The Tuscan Steak was prepared to order and was tender and delicious. My wife mixed the meatball appetizer with the rigatoni which made for a wonderful pairing. Solo's wine list is limited but is well chosen with good wine for every budget and some truly exceptional values from Italy.
The night's dessert was the true hit. I had the tiramisu which was very good, but the Pumpkin Bundino was amazing. Since the menu changes frequently, we will be returning soon for this seasonal treat.

A must try!
Dined with Solo for restaurant week, the food was superb! The Risotto was just right, and I the Pappardelle was fantastic!

Excellence in the Esplanade
Nice patio, good food. Sports on the TVs in the bar.

Best we've had in a long time!!
What a find (once you find it, that is)!! This restaurant is right under the AMC theatre in a stand of office buildings. It has the urban feel I so miss coming from Chicago. Food selection is minimal, but what they offer is outstanding!! My husband had the flat iron steak with fingerling potatoes, done perfectly. I had the salmon over lentils with brussel sprouts--delish!! My only disappointment was that they were out of tiramisu. Not that I need and excuse to go back, but I will go back and hope for tiramisu!! We plan on trying the chef's dinner next time. The owner came out and spoke to us and made us feel special. Our server was knowledgable and the whole team worked together to make sure our experience was great, and it was!!!
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
This restaurant is oustanding for food, service and value!
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great late night dining
We dropped by after 7:30 and sat on the patio. The weather was great the food wonderful, and the Pumpkin Budino was a terrific topper for the night.
10/14/2013 5:00:00 PM
A hidden gem
This is not a restaurant you will stroll by and say "Oh, let's stop here" You must want to find this wonderful little place, and YOU SHOULD. The food is wonderful. I was sad when I finished the white bean, jalapeño, shrimp bruschetta. No more left. But the prosciutto/fig pizza quickly made me happy again. The pappardelle was so delicious, as well, that we did not save room for dessert. But looking at the pumpkin budino at the table next to us made me wish I had.

Great food. A little pricey.
Loved the meatballs and the salmon! A bit pricey, but we had a living social voucher. Will definitely consider returning.

Would have liked to see more pasta selections. Bread is amazing by Noble Bread.

Good spot for a business meal
Works very well for a business meal - not so busy and loud. Great food. will return.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food excellent delivery
We enjoyed this meal very much, two kids consuming very well made artisan pizza and the adults enjoying local source pastas. The opening soup dish was different and delicious. Portions are not large and neither are the prices. The waitress was fun and competent.
We recommend this restaurant tucked in the Esplanade just below the movie theater.

Great Food, Great Service
We loved the food in this family run Bistro. The farmhouse salad was excellent and very large. The flat iron steak was perfectly cooked. My wife had the salmon and said it was also excellent. Our waiter was attentive and informative. I will go back to try other dishes.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wasn't sure what to expect
The menu appeared to be somewhat limited but everything we had was out of this world good. I dine out a lot and it takes a lot for me to get excited about a restaurant. LOVED it!
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
This family owned business takes great pride in all they do: from the simple excellence of the interior space to the knowledgeable staff and of course, the excellence in culinary offerings. The flat iron steak was cooked to absolute perfection, beautifully presented on a bed of fingerling potatoes and flavorful. The roasted acorn squash with buratta was a nice change from standard appetizers. The meatballs flavorful and in a yummy sauce, too. Save room for dessert - the Tiramisu is heavenly.

Nice small restaurant
We had a lunch business meeting here and sat inside, although the weather was beautiful and there was an open-air farmers market in the mall with live singing, so outdoor seating was enticing, but perhaps a bit loud and distracting. We sat inside in the only booth in the restaurant. Because of the high seat backs, the space was a little dark. But the atmosphere was nice, with background music that was at times a little more energetic than the atmosphere warranted. I had checked out the online menu prior to the visit, and was a bit disappointed that the online menu, which features speciality cheeses and meats, was different from the menu in the restaurant. I opted for a chopped salad, which was large and satisfying. Overall, a nice lunch.

Great Italian in Biltmore district
I found this restaurant online and noted the great reviews. The quality of the food was excellent - very fresh and authentic ingredients. We enjoyed our server who was very helpful with the menu. I would definitely recommend eating there. It's located on the ground level below the AMC theatre in the business park.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
We ordered the roasted acorn squash with burrata and meatball appetizers. For entrees, we had the gnudi and the Sardinian gnocchi. For dessert, we ordered an digestive, decaf, tiramisu and the gelato trio.
I can highly recommend the meatballs, gnudi and gnocchi. The food was tasty and the service was good but challenged as the place got busier thru the evening. Overall, it was a good experience. We did enjoy the food and the atmosphere and I'm sure we'll be back for another special night's experience.

Solo Trattoria is the new kid on the block that acts like its been there for ages. The staff treat you like old friends and soon you feel like you are. On out last visit we were greeted by not only a couple of servers but also the owners and the chef! Solo has a vibrance of a youthful club and the comfort of family owned eatery, with an ever-changing menu that's unique and delicious. The food is fresh, local, and comes out at the perfect temperature. While the dining room is somewhat secluded from the bar, you can easily pop your head around the corner for an update on your favorite teams. Congratulations Solo Trattoria on your success. We hope you will be around forever! I know my friends and I will be back.

What a delightful surprise. Once we found SOLO (we didn't know it was in the Esplanade) we were in for a real treat. I choose my coupons with a degree of skepticism but SOLO outperformed. The appetizers were fantastic (I did the bruschetta) and the entrees were enough to stay fresh in my mind for several days now. (mine was salmon-husband had Gnudi and that = very happy husband)
I was so happy I bought a gift certificate for a friend to go back with us. LOVED IT. The server by the way was hilarious as well as knowledgeable. Overall A++
