Never even a mediocre meal! 5*'s
La Focaccia never disappoints. BYOB which is fine for us. Northern Italian cuisine. Excellent table service. Highly recommended! My veal piccata was perfect.

One way I judge a restaurant is how well they fare during a heavy special occasion period like Mother's Day. They did offer a special menu but did not jack up the prices. The restaurant was booked to the hilt but we did not feel rushed at all. There were six in our party and the place is BYOB with a wine shop conveniently located across the street. My entree was a pasta dish with calamari, mussels and shrimp. My daughter thought her pesto dish was a bit salty. Other than that, it was a perfect meal. One of our young waiters felt inclined to keep the wine glasses full but I had to slow him down and explain that some people did not want more than one glass. Parking is available in a shared lot across from the restaurant.

Food good but getting pricey
Foods has always been good here but it is getting to their heads (and wallets). $14 salads which were largely greens and a few sun dried tomatoes is a bit absurd.

Great selection and very tasty
We were seated right away but did not feel rushed.
Waiter was happy to explain details about each dish we asked about.
We did not feel rushed.
Food was great.

Second time here and was outstandin
I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant. Need to make reservation as limited number of tables. Remember to bring your own wine as they don't have serve alcohol.

We've been going to La Foccacia for years. Always good food, always good service.

Always enjoy this restaurant
We have been coming to La Focaccia for many years. We know the staff very well. and always feel very welcome when we dine. Our favorite dish is the doable cut veal chop. Always cooked perfectly BUT.... the prices overall have gone up substantially. The prices are in line with NY restaurants. I think for a neighborhood restaurant, the prices should be more "neighborly." Instead of a once a week visit, as we used to do, now it is more special occasions or a lot less frequent.
Still love it and the ambience is lovely. During the week, your reservation will be honored...weekends a lot more crowded.

I love La Focaccia! The food
I love La Focaccia! The food is always consistant and divine and the wait staff is very knowledgable and most have been there a longtime. We like the byob wine as we get to bring what we want and the price is not doubled. The noise level does get a bit high so fyi if you are bringing older people. They do have a quieter room and you might request it -- there is also a table for 6/8 in the front in a private area. I think it is one of the best in Summit.

Sunday night special
Even though the restaurant was very busy, we were treated like special guests. Somehow they manage the noise that it is not intrusive on the dining experience.

It was our first time there
It was our first time there and it was just great!! The food, service and ambiance -- this restaurant has the whole package!!! We'll definitely go back.

An excellent experience
We have returned after a few years of absence with friends who were first timers. The table was, as requested in a relatively quieter portion of the restaurant. Service was superb from start to finish. While there is an extensive menu, the off-menu list is quite long and good. We ordered both on menu and off-menu and everything was great! Specially liked the lobster salad appetizer, and the special mozzarella salad. Sweetbreads were done superbly, the veal chop milanese was tasty and the veal chop ordered by one of the newcomers had him swearing by it. Just can't beat it.

Great Italian Restaurant in NJ
Excellent food and service - not your run of the mill "covered in red sauce Italian food." We are privileged to have a restaurant of this caliber in the area.
7/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
We really liked the ambiance
We really liked the ambiance and pleasant and cheerful wait service from entering the door to leaving. Friendly and attentive. For those who love Italian cuisine your in for a real treat. The mussel appetizer and the cheese and olive plate was plenty for two. The risotto and shrimp was a delight. no room for desert maybe next time. There will be a next time when we're in the area.

Very Good Italian and BYOB!!!
Food was excellent, service very professional. You almost feel like you are dining in NYC, not on the other side of Summit township. Our meal took a little long to come out, but that's okay since its a BYOB so you can drink your own wine while you wait. The ambiance is nice, I say its good for groups and special occasions because they have the dinning room split in three. My only drawback is that it is a bit pricey for BYOB and being where it is. Finally, I always benchmark restaurants by two things, wine (BYOB - top score) and the bread which again was really good and always refilled.

Great food AND byo.....rare find!
Wonderful menu, delicious food and you can bring in your favorite wine. Hard to find these days. Had best Rack of Lamb and warm fig salad! Expect to wince a bit when the bill arrives but look what you saved on alcohol. You have paid for a wonderful dining experience and like me, will return.

The best place to go
This was an excellent dining experience.......the food was very good, house made pasta and the best gnocchi ever....especially with the short rib sauce.
Peter and Harry and the rest of the staff work in concert to make sure that you are well taken care of.
Deserts are special too.....Blueberry Pie was so good

We had a 6pm reservation, a bit early for dinner but after reading other reviews about long waits, we decided to go on the early side. We did not have to wait although by the time we were finished 7:40 there was a line out the door and people waiting outside.
Dinner was very good and even better that is bring your own. I loved how we were not rushed at all and the courses were spread out. . Maybe that is because we were there on the early side. Dinner for 2 with tip was $120 so a bit pricey. We wil go back again.

Good Food - Good Restaurant
We celebrated our son's birthday at Focaccia and the entire event was very enjoyable. Each person loved his/her entree and the service was attentive but not overbearing. They brought our son a birthday dessert without having to be reminded. We will certainly return.

Great evening out
I have been to La Focaccia several times, and it has never disappointed. The food is delicious, the wait staff is helpful, and the experience is great for both large and more intimate gatherings. Also, love that it is BYOB.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Getting too pricey
We have been coming to La Focaccia for many years and always enjoyed it. BUT... now we have noticed that the prices are getting too high for a neighborhood restaurant. Salads as appetizers 12.00 - 14.00 and the portion very small. I ordered an arugula salad with a goat cheese crostini. The goat cheese was so small I ate it in one bite. Then I ordered a pasta special. Papparedelle and mushroom- $28.00!!! OUCH!!!! I should have asked the price of the special OR , actually, the waiter should have told us.
The restaurant is always busy, but I am not sure that the regulars are still coming. We noticed groups of women and groups of men. NY prices in Summit NJ, ???
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a family birthday party and thought the evening was fun with great food, good service, friendly staff, and outstanding dessert.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
A more sophisticated version
A more sophisticated version of traditional Italian fare, served in an impeccable manner. For this level of food and service it is truly unfortunate that the tables are very close together, in an uncomfortable way, something you would expect of a more casual place.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have been going to La Focaccia since the beginning. It is so professional = waiters, service, etc. I have recommended
to so many people and also bring my family. They make you feel comfortable without intruding on your privacy and the
food is excellent. A gem.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
Very good experience
They accommodated a group of 15 on a Friday night with relatively short notice and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Service was excellent and we never found ourselves looking for a waiter. I had the pepper crusted sirloin which was one of the best steaks I have had - I regularly dine at top-rated steak houses and restaurants. Everyone else in our party had great things to say about their food.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
We have been dining at LF for many years. Every meal is memorable and the service is very good especially considering how crowded it is… which leads me to ... the only thing that keep us from coming more often is the wait and the parking. Even when making reservations via OpenTable, there was a 20 minute wait. The only parking available is the limited few spaces not he street out front and the one-side only side street. Consider yourself lucky if you only have to walk a block. BUT It is well worth the wait and walk!

Where the locals eat Italian
It says a lot about a place when the same waiters have been here for 20 years, when you need a reservation on the day after Thanksgiving, when they smile at your 3 bottles of wine and take care of them appropriately. No wonder La Focaccia is always full of locals who adore their great food and charming ambiance. If you are in the area and want a bit of upscale Jersey Italian, this is it.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
food was A+, service not quite
we went to La Focaccia on the Friday after Thanksgiving. We thought it would be empty. Just the reverse was true. thank god, we had used open table and reserved a table. La Focaccia is BYOB. the food was superb. we shared a buratta appetizer and a plate of the gnocchi before the main course. the gnocchi were light, puffs sitting on a bed of ricotta - unbelievably delicious. the buratta was fresh and creamy. while the food was superb, our waiter was too busy paying attention to the 6 person table and not enough attention to our 2 person table. guess he thought our tip was not worth his attention. despite the lackluster waiter, we will return and definitely recommend this for a delicious meal for any occasion.

I enjoyed the escarole salad and grilled shrimp with bean purée. Both were very good. For dessert, I chose the tiramisu, and it was delicious! I would absolutely recommend this restaurant.
