Best in Beverly
I've been waiting for a long time for downtown Beverly to have a restaurant which can compete with those in Boston/Cambridge/Somerville. After being disappointed time and time again, I wasn't expecting much from Barrel House. Well, I've finally found a restaurant which compels me to eat a little bit closer to home rather than heading into the city. The drink menu is fantastic; I tried the Black Cherry Infused Manhattan and a few others. The charcuterie and cheese plates were both perfectly balanced and full of great options. I'm quickly running out of characters, so I will sum this up. Barrel House is, finally, a place worth frequenting in downtown Beverly. I will be back for sure, sooner rather than later. Well done.

Can't wait to go back!
This was our first time eating here. We had a great experience and will definitely be back. We loved the eggs and bacon appetizer! Can't wait to go for Pigs 'n Whiskey some Sunday!

Worth the visit
I do not often get to Salem but was there for a play at the Sea Change Theatre and this had good reviews and was nearby. So I chanced it. I feel blessed. The food was full of flavor, incredibly well plated, and I appreciated that the woman waiting on us was very articulate in her descriptions of the food and later the drinks. By which I mean, I really enjoyed their mixed drink menu and once I finished my first drink, she made a suggestion based on my expressed likes. I loved that. The butter was amazing! And I really enjoyed the Brie & Honey with almonds. The grilled cheese was far beyond what I would make at home and so much tastier. The tomato soup was thick, rich and smokey. The ambiance was perfect and the noise level low.

I have been at Barrel House on a number of occasions since they opened. This place truly stands out in the Beverly dining/social scene. Food and service is great and now you can also make reservations. Love the fact that there are no television sets over the bar!
Main problem for me is the acoustics of the room. High ceilings (looks fantastic) gives a very vibrant room and also a fairly loud noise level. This makes you speak even louder to attempt to hold a conversation even at close hand.
On top of that, the owner has chosen to have a sound system running music. This makes it even more difficult to chat. Sometimes you can hear you neighboor table more than your own.
The food, service and decor deserves a lower sound level overall.

great food great service
The appetizers were so good that is what we ordered for dinner. Service amazing!

We decided to entertain relatives from San Diego, CA. They were very pleased, as were we, with the food, ambiance, decor, & the knowledgeable staff. They felt you could take this restaurant and put it into the Gas-Light district of San Diego and it would be a phenomenal success!!!!

Very good but not excellent
This was our first time at the Barrel House. Dark and cozy with high banquet style seating along the walls and bar length stool seating in the middle. In fact, this place was so dark we had to use our flashlight app to read the menu. Our waitress was very informative and I would have given service five stars but they forgot my husband's oysters and even when reminded after I had finished my salad, still had to wait another 10-15 minutes! Other than that the food was great--not excellent. My husband loved his steak frites and oysters but my salad and salmon were rather bland and lacked seasoning. That said, we liked it and would go again.

A good spot to broaden horizons
While Barrel House has some mainstream dishes like steak frites and scallops, it also has some dishes like tongue and head cheese (both part of the charcuterie platter) and roasted bone marrow that may take some people out of their comfort zone (in a good way), especially considering the restaurant is located in a suburban setting. The wait staff was friendly and approachable and not condescending at all. The setting was lively and got a little loud by the time we were almost done but not too bad. The bar menu is extensive and includes some interesting cocktails. The beer menu offers a number of different craft brews, but is a little too heavy on Belgians and IPAs. The wine menu appeared good but I didn't order any.

Satiation at it's BEST
The drinks are old school pizzaz with a dash of modernity. The food is gastropub with decadence. The ambiance is casual cool. The wait staff are amazingly attentive and knowledgable. Definitely worth a visit and a return!!

birthday date night
Was a great spot for a romantic birthday dinner with my husband. Great french style food and an extensive cocktail and wine list.
6/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
The atmosphere was lovely, but the music and noise level was very loud as the place filled up. I'm afraid the food wasn't good enough to overlook the noise and return here

Best Restaurant Ever!
I highly recommend the charcuterie and honey fig flip! The poutine is second best, and pretty much any meat dish is a win. The desserts are rich and delicious as well! I am so sad to be moving across county. But every time I return, I will be visiting Barrel House!!!
6/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
A very noisy gem
The chef at this restaurant thinks "out of the box". Food is eclectic and declicious. The menu is a page long and the liquor/wine/beer menu is three pages long.
Our party of 6 all loved the food and our waitress was very knowledgeable and terrific.
However, we chould not talk as the noise level is so high. Two people alone might do alright, but we even had trouble hearing the waitress. We asked that the speaker be turned down over us and they did follow through on that.
I would definitely recommend Barrel House, but with a footnote about the noise. I would go back for an early dinner/late lunch and sit at the bar.

3rd Time Remains a Charm
On our 3rd visit, Barrel House contained to impress. Outstanding knowledgable and friendly wait staff, terrific cocktails...and the food continues to be some of the better offerings on the North Shore. And the "Eggs 'n Bacon" app is a signature dish not to be missed. Only real problem being food portions are so generous, we've been so satiated we haven't been able to sample the delish sounding desserts. Barrel House should be on everyone's MUST list.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Why would anyone drive into town when this place is right next door?!? From house-made charcuterie to octopus salad (so good!) to a whole pigs head for the undaunted, the food here is fantastic! This chef knows where his food comes from and showcases these local, high-quality ingredients with unpretentious pride serving up tasty, wholesome, feel-good food. The service and atmosphere are refined, yet incredibly relaxing and comfortable (even your wallet will agree). Dress casual and take a good friend to hang out with. Oh, and if you're whiskey lovers, call a cab. Their list is incredible!

I have never had a bad meal
I have never had a bad meal there ! i just LOVE it !! Everyone should go !
7/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Balanced menu. Foodie and accessible all at the same time. Great seafood platter. Been a couple of times now. Both excellent. Love the ingredient provenance.
7/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Unique contemporary pub
This contemporary pub goes way beyond the typical "pub food". It has a great selection of small plates you can share. They love their bacon and they serve it up in many unique ways. Try the brie fondue. I loved it!
7/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
An absolute gem!
Finally, a place that truly knows how to make a cocktail. And doesn't have to brag about it! From classics to new creations, some with house made syrups and infusions, you will get a perfect drink. The extensive selection of whiskeys and craft beers is unmatched on the North Shore. Food is comfort classics and world inspired and always delicious. The waitstaff and bar tenders are outstanding too. But don't tell anyone, we want to keep it our secret!

Delicious food but noisy atmosphere
The Barrel House was a great find for dinner. Our server was excellent, and the food fantastic, but the noise level is very high. We almost left when we came in because of the noise level, but decided to stay because we wanted to try it. Glad we did and we would go back because of the food and service.
7/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
little city spot w/ big city style
the barrel house was a perfect spot to bring together four people with completely different taste...it was fun, classy, intimate, yet noisy and anonymous enough to save us a trip into the city. pricy but still perfect. our server had experience picking the types of grapes in the "ice wine" we sampled, but was low key and not pushy about any of our choices. we tried everything...foie gras, which made me feel guilty but which was intriguing in the various ways it was prepared, pate and pickles, pork ribs, beet salad (incredible) and sautéed greens, which we all agreed were prepared to perfection. next time i'd still go for the small dishes because we were able to sample so many extraordinarily unique flavors at a fun, relaxed pace. great!!!
7/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food, pricey
My cod was delicious, and I would highly recommend it! For 4 people (4 meals, 4 drinks, 1 app) it was about $180 without tip. A little pricey. The place was beautiful, but it was HOT, and the fans kept blowing our candles out, so it was dark too. But overall, food was very good.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
real interesting place - great menu, great food, and a wonderful space. A bit too loud, but overall fantastic.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was wonderful and it was complimented by thorough attentive service. We texted our foodie friends to make 0lans to return before leaving. What a great great experience.
7/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Still one of best meals on NoSho
4th time through and still impressed. One of the better meals on the North Shore. Service always exceptional, and the constantly changing menu provides great options. Highly recommend checking it out.

Barrel house beverly
Great restaurant. Needs reservations. About 20 bar seats. Ambiance is great and outstanding view.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
My wife and I ate here for the first time and were really wowed by the quality of the food. It exceeded our expectations. When we are in the area we will surely visit it again.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
My warm pork salad with goat
My warm pork salad with goat cheese, nuts and a cooked egg on top was delicious, creative and unusual. It was like a bacon and egg salad only so much better!! I had a blackberry pear cider that was crisp and refreshing as well. I have not seen this product elsewhere and really enjoyed it. I would recommend the Barrel House to others without hesitation.
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
On many recommendations by friends we finally made it to Barrel House. Make sure you have the cured meat board....all prepared by the chef. Incredible flavor. We also had the Brie Fondue which was topped with honey and toasted almonds. Excellent. Two ordered the Seafood Stew special with octopus, salmon and little necks. They raved. Another tried the small plate of duck three ways, delish. I had the skirt steak that I had to send back because it was still moving on the plate...and it didn't come back medium rare...but it was very tasty. Hence why only four stars for food.
Our waitress was awesome! She was very knowledgeable about the menu, the alcohol offerings and she was quite knowledgeable on food in general. Great time!

What a wonderful experience
My boyfriend and I were supremely satisfied with Barrel House. We started with oysters which were very tasty (Island Creek and Blue Point) and cocktails (Whiskey Smash and Cucumber dill smash) which were fantastic. We had the scallop appetizer, and the scallop was perfectly seared and the duck confit and corn were an ideal pairing. For entrees, I had the cod with lobster bisque and squid ink gnocchi. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the gnocchi were fantastic and fluffy. My boyfriend had the burger which was also great. We ended with the strawberry crisp served warm w/ creme fraiche ice cream. The food was great, but the service was absolutely top notch. Our server Taylor was extremely knowledgeable and made our experience very memorable.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fantastic food even better service
Menu and beverage selection is just perfect. Everything we ordered was wonderful! From the moment we walked in we were warmly greeted by a very accommodating host staff. Our server, Taylor, was knowledgeable regarding everything on the menu (food and beverage) and friendly and provided superior service!! Hard to find service like that.....she made our experience most memorable.

A little too much
Came with a small group. Serve's excessive energy was a bit overwhelming . come here quite often, and this was the least enjoyable time. Appetizers were delicious, entrees were OK. Po-boy sandwich was cold. Salads are to die-for.
As always, the cocktails were delicious. As was the dessert.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
One of our favorite places to frequent, great drinks, craft beers, wife list. The dining menu is phenomenal!
Try the Eggs & Bacon and Poutine! Crazy good!
Don't forget to try the FriedDough Twinkie, amazing!
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cheese FONDUE is amazing...
Served a great wiskey sour, like it should be made (with foam). The brie fondue appetizer was UN-BE-LIEV-ABLE! A sinful plate...but worth every last calorie. We would have been happy to have it for an appetizer, entre and dessert. The cod entre with the lobster bisque was great. OVERALL, my wife and I were very pleased and will be back for more.
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have been here twice in one month and have not been disappointed. The only complaint I have is that it is a very noisy room so hard to have a good conversation. And it's very dark so hard to read the menu. Otherwise, the food is fabulous and our waitress, Taylor, who I had both times, was extraordinary.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sat at the bar waiting for friends - bartenders were fun and engaging. Setaed at table waitress was lovely and attentive food was delicious had a wonderful night
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cool neighborhood spot, nice rotating seasonal menu, KILLLER fries, AMAZING cocktails....i cant recommend the 'Fig Flip' highly enough, and very nice service and ambiance.
Definitely get a reservation on the weekend, or plan to arrive late. Usually is very crowded 6 - 8:30 then opens up as it gets later. Weeknights are a good time to grab a few cocktails too.
10/17/2013 5:00:00 PM
this place is a must go to!
Even with three infants in the place this place was great (luckily all three kids -one of them was ours - was fantastic).
Food was wonderful and perfect. Prices were good for the type of food offered (a bit more funky and gastro-pub ish) and the portions were perfect.
Our server Andrew was great, explained the entire menu, choices, drinks, wines, his opinions (or the kitchens') very well and set us on a good start.
We will definitely be back.

A very sophisticated menu
A very sophisticated menu with items also for the diner who seek casual fare. had a truly wonderful pork shank with charcuterie to start. must be one of the finest restaurants in the area. I would heartily recommend. I am rarely in this area but should I return, I would revisit this spot in a second. Love the atmosphere and the friendly yet professional service. Not inexpensive for the high end items but worth every penny.
10/25/2013 5:00:00 PM
Very friendly and engaging
Very friendly and engaging wait staff. All requests were promptly and politely met. Menu was a little limited but every thing we ordered was good. Would definitely try again.

This was our visit visit to BH. It was our daughter's birthday. Made the reservation 2 weeks in advance, confirmed it one week out and received a reminder notice from OT. We were stunned that we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. After 30 minutes, I asked if we could at least have a seat for our 84 year Grandmother and, perhaps some one could come by and take our drink order.
Once seated - the waiter was delightful. Multiple hostesses came by to apologize for delay in seating and they comped us our desserts. Despite the unfortunate start to the evening - we had a great time and the meal was fabulous. BH needs to do something about seating larger parties (6 guests) as I had heard this complaint from another group prior to our visit.

Thanks to Opentable, we found this gem! Outstanding server, knowledgeable, and eager to please. Cod was outstanding. Clean food with lots of interesting flavors. Pink Penelope is my new fav cocktail!

We ate at Barrel House on
We ate at Barrel House on Friday night. We started with the cheese plate which was good but pretty small for the price. Loved the pickles. Then the three of us had macaroni and cheese, a burger, and the grilled chicken sandwich. All were very good, especially the mac and cheese. For dessert we had the apple cobbler which was a little under done (the apples were hard) and the coffee was exceptional. The beer selection was very good and we were all happy with our choices. The server offered us samples of a couple to try which was great. We usually go to the pub at the Depot but this will be our new go to spot for Fridays.

The Food God blessed us...
with Barrel House. I have eaten all over the world, and could name my fave resto's and dishes off the top of my head. Barrel House and Eggs-n-Bacon would be on the very short list. This is a restaurant that you'd find Anthony Bourdain happily eating at, top 10 Zagat's, whatever top list you want to put together. The fact that Barrel House is in Beverly is truly unreal. Bartender's like John, SJ and Matt make the cocktail experience just that- an experience. Chef's like Patrick Shea come up with flavorful dishes that make you salivate when you remember what you ate, a week later. He sources local and has a die hard following. BH is a gem, and I'd put my money on the fact that is is one of the best restaurants in all of Massachusetts.

Great spot on Cabot St
Give The Barrel House a try. Great menu, great bourbon list. Good beer selection.

Birthdays @ Barrel House
We were seated quickly, then we enjoyed the great waitstaff. They were knowledgeable and engaging. The menu reminded me of the bistros in Paris. The oysters were shucked nicely with no messy shells and nice plump oysters. The drinks were very good. Once they found out that there were 2 birthdays @ our table of 5, the chef sent around a wonder Sherry to go with our Cheese board. It was a great pairing. The meals were delivered hot and everyone was satisfied how their meals were cooked. The plating was creative. I would recommend them for a special night out and would like to thank them again for extra effort all around in making the birthday and dinner experience memorable for all!
12/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
Casual but great dining experience
Although it was the evening, my companion and I were interested only in sandwiches and wine by the glass. However, our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list and at request brought samples of wine to aid in decision-making. Our sandwiches were interesting combinations of ingredients, flavorful, good breads and generous portions. Also included a tasty salad on the side. Each of us brought half a sandwich home! We will definitely return and recommend to others.

I've been multiple times but never on a Sunday night! it was great! quiet, not too busy and overall fantastic! I always order the whiskey smash (super refreshing..they go down too easy) silly pickles and almond honey Brie fondue! the grilled cheese with a cup of tomato soup and salad was comfort food at its finest! love barrel house!
