Visited with my colleague. We are Japanese in our mid 40s. We shared a bottle of white wine (pinot grigio), seafood salad, bruschetta(6 pieces), milanese cutlet, vongole, and tilamisu. We were really saisfied all dishes and service, especially vongole! You must come!

Great for a group!
It was my birthday and our waitress was amazing. There were about 10 of us, and it was great. It was never a place I had heard of but I am so glad I chose it! I would definitely go back.

Giovanni's is amazing. The chicken marsala melts in your mouth. It was my birthday and the restaurant secretly worked with my mom to have a beautiful cake sent to my table. They were so nice and the experience was really special.

A gem in DC.
Small gem of a restaurant in an area full of bigger more well known restaurants. Impress your friends by recommending Giovanni's Trattu.

Great for Group Business Dinner
I'll definitely return! Our group was warmly welcomed, and luggage/briefcases were quickly stowed away. Very attentive staff! The atmosphere is cozy and I didn't miss natural lighting. We didn't stay for dessert, but entree highlights included:
- Agnolotti di Casa Mia
- Filetto di salmone alle erbe
- Risotto (I forget which)
All were delicious, with or without Chianti.

Great Little Find
Was there for lunch with several colleagues. The seafood stew was excellent, full of plump mussels and plenty of other delights. The service was cheerful and appreciative. I look forward to returning.

Neighborhood Gem/Great Italian Food
We went to Giovanni's Trattu to celebrate my birthday. Lovely setting. Attentive service. In my opinion, the Italian entrees are some of the best in DC. Really enjoyed the Eggplant Parmesan. My family liked their Spaghetti Carbonara. Soup of the day was a great Gazpacho soup; quite unexpected for an Italian Restaurant. Enjoyed the wine recommended by our waitress and my Tiramisu dessert with a candle. We will return. Best to arrive by Metro (Dupont Circle is closest), walk, take a cab or allow more time to find street parking which can be difficult on a weekend.

My wife and I discovered this place through the reviews at OpenTable and other on-line restaurant locator smart phone apps. Wow... the reviews we read didn't steer us wrong. Great food, outstanding service, and lovely ambience. Although we live in southeastern PA, we will be back whenever we're in D.C.

Lovely Italian Gem in Dupont!
Took my wife here for a birthday dinner and we had a great time! Word of warning for those who want a lot of space: not here. It's a cozy little restaurant that has the feel of a big Italian dining room, with friends and family gathering around to talk, eat, relax and enjoy. Service was prompt and very friendly, which made the evening all the more pleasant. For appetizers, we had the Involtini di Melanzane...really tasty! I had Gnocchi, which was pretty good and my wife had the Pollo Rollato Alla Bionda, which was even better. Brought out a small cake for dessert, courtesy of the chef, and it was a good night! Highly recommended for a friendly dining experience.

Just like in Italy!
This is a small neighborhood restaurant that delivers in so many ways. Excellent menu, attentive service and nice ambiance. If you are looking for great food, a quiet atmosphere where you can enjoy your meal or the company you are with the n this restaurant for you. I felt like I was in a neighborhood in Italy :) I selected Kid-friendly and Romantic which might seem odd, but the intimacy of the restaurant makes it romantic and the kid friendly rating is because the restaurant readily accommodated menu requests for my 13 year old daughter. However as the restaurant is small, a rowdy family might be overwhelming to the other guest.

Gem in Dupont
I work across the street but had never seen this small friendly neighborhood northern italian. week night after work, with 3 others from the office. full bar, drinks made perfectly by a smiling bartender. started with melon and prosciutto, just as good as any trattoria in Rome. menu has a page full of traditional and different pasta dishes. The farfalle with salmon and peas was perfect. The bucatini could have been made in venice. prices are modest. dont miss this restaurant.

I had not been to Trattu since 2005--but started going there around 1980. The occasion was a reunion with a colleague who also remembered Trattu fondly. We had scrumptious grilled octopus and a caprese salad (mozzarella, tomato, etc.) for starters. I enjoyed a grilled mahi mahi, he a veal dish and an terrifically satisfying tiramisu. We sat in my favorite spot: the window seat, open to the breeze and sunshine. The only thing missing was il maestro, Giovanni.

Best kept secret
It's a hole in the wall feel, cute inside/romantic, Italian music in the background. Excellent homemade pasta and food. Service was great too. Try the pesto gnocchi, little pillows of joy!

Romantic birthday Dinner
My fiancé and I celebrated her birthday and our anniversary this past Wednesday night. Being from the New York area I have yet to find a great Italian meal in DC until Giovanni's. The mussels were cooked to perfection and served in an olive oil based sauce instead of butter. The chicken Marsalla and spinach ravioli with marinara were very good. The ambiance and service were first class and they did a great job of creating an amazing atmosphere for us! Will be back for the food and for the feel of being home!

We came with a big group and the service was excellent. They put up with our indecision over ordering and the fact that we stayed well past the time when other diners had left... Food is good, hearty American Italian. It doesn't feel like you're in Naples but it's well prepared and fairly priced, and we had a great evening.

Quaint and tasty
We just got in town and wanted to dine near DuPont circle. This restaurant had nice reviews. Turns out most we're correct in their assessment. We found a nice selection of Italian reserves and picked one which I'll look for again. We all ordered pasta and it was cooked just right. Service was attentive. Prices are what you would expect for a DC Italian restaurant. I'll return again.

Eat here if you can't get to Italy
This is a fabulous little restaurant. Patrizia is an amazing host and will treat you as a member of the family if you give her the opportunity. The pastas are all good. The osso buca and veal and chicken Trattu are simple but well-prepared and never disappoint. The house white and red served in ceramic pitchers are good and reasonable.
