Ovie is great for commuters
Ovie is great for commuters or the pre-theatre/opera crowds. The food is excellent, I recommend the sliders which are juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The flatbreads are great too. Bar is crowded on Friday evenings, but visit anytime for a great meal.

This was my second visit to
This was my second visit to Ovie's The food is very good and plentiful. I especially loved the Rosemary Potatoes that came with my sandwich. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. I'll definitely be going for lunch or after work again soon!

We were there during the first
We were there during the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament. The place was packed, mainly with non-diners. Despite the hubbub, the wait staff and kitchen performed well. We had a couple of small plates -- specialty ravioli and seared sea scallops. Both were fresh and well prepared.
We like the location (in the Ogilvy Transportation Center between Washington and Randolph), which allows for a good meal before a show -- much better experience than most restaurants in Theater District and far better than anything at Navy Pier (Chicago Shakespeare).

We are older opera patrons.
We are older opera patrons. It is convenient to the Lyric Opera. It is a bit too jazzy for us. The food was good but it was hard to estimate how large each portion would be. The wine list is overpriced.

What a great surprise!
What a great find! My friend and I attended a Saturday matinee at the Lyric Opera, and options for a decent lunch in the area are extremely limited. I decided to try Ovie and we were so impressed. The decor and ambiance (situated in the Ogilvy Transportation Center) were unexpected and quite nice. We loved the ahi tuna tartare and crab cake - both were highest quality. Although we were tempted by their 50% discount on bottles of wine, we enjoyed two glasses from their very nice list. We'll definitely return.

Ovie is my new go to lunch spot
I love Ovie! Great addition to the French Market area. It has a very modern, yet cozy feel. You can go there for a business lunch, they are quick and the food is great, or you can go there with friends, either curle up in a booth or sit at the large bar. It's my new go to spot!

Four of us - pre opera concert
Four of us - pre opera concert
We avoided the high noise level by requesting a booth in the far back via Open Table reservation system. we loved the booth and the noise was minimal esp compared to the front, near the lively bar area. We had 4 different entrees and all were good, Sat is 1/2 price wine night so we had great wine, at a very good price. We plan to repeat for theater and opera nights and anytime we are out on a Sat night. I also am a repeat customer for business dinners during the week. Again, stay to the back - the front is too noisy for dinner and business conversation. Once when I was in the front on a Tues night, i asked for the music to be turned down, and .. they did.

Great place under the station.
Convenient for Metra travelers, but you do hear the trains overhead. Nice touch to add seasonal foods with creative touches. Definitely would recommend Ovie as one of those hidden treasures.

I think that Ovie holds its own as a restaurant and bar. It's located in Ogilvie Transportation Center and I'm sure is super convenient for train commuters. I would go even if I wasn't killing time before my train! The food is really solid - not too fancy but definitely delicious. The drinks are yummy. I've sampled quite a few things, but most recently I had the tuna tartar appetizer (ah-mazing!) and the Ruben sandwich. I ate someone else's leftover pork chop and found it to be scrumptious a few days later. Service was good and ambiance was good. There were multiple tvs around the bar and tables and booths surrounding. I also liked the lounge area. It hasn't been noisy whenever I've gone (for a lively event and also for an early dinner).

Excellent food and service!
The food at Ovie was fantastic. Had the Reuben sandwich. Best Reuben I have ever had! Run, don't walk, to Ovie.

The rueben sandwich was delicious.
The rueben sandwich was delicious. The soft shell crab was outstanding. Great location and the service was great.

Convenient for business lunch but..
The two times I have taken clients there for lunch the music is always too loud to hear each other talk. I would expect that during th elunch hour the music should be low and more in the background as both times I took clients it was far too loud and disruptive.
The food and service are alwyas good....no issues there.

Great Sitdown Restaurant inOgilvie
We trained in to see the Hawks game and wanted a good place to eat near Ogilvie. We made reservations and got seated immediately. I ordered Halibut and my friend ordered Pulled Pork Sandwich. The Halibut came with fingerling potatoes and fresh peas. Both were very good! We also took advantage of the half price bottle of wine. We got out in plenty of time to get to the 7PM game. I strongly recommend Ovie if you want to eat before any evening event downtown.

A nice surprise
Not many restaurants are open late afternoon/early evening in the West Loop near the river. We had tickets to the Lyric at 7 and had a really light dinner (small plates and salad) at Ovie. We sat outside and enjoyed tasty food,(e.g., crab cakes with lots of crab) and wine (a small but good selection with half price bottles on Saturday). The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. The only drawback was after the Lyric we came back at 9:15 p.m. hoping for a place to watch the end of the Hawks playoff game (there's a nice indoor bar) and were disappointed to find it was already closed. Ovie's is a very nice addition to this area. Definitely will go back.

convenience with ambience
A hidden gem in a subterranean world! For drinks and appetizers, small plates, or delicious entrees, this is the place to go. Asparagus risotto? Fantastic!

Ovie = Home Run!
Can't wait to return with more friends! I drive to work everyday but I now wish I was a commuter, just so I could enjoy Ovie more often!

Great Near West Side Addition
To the west side of the river downtown, you previously had only 2 choices for lunch-very mediocre (chains, dives), or pretty fancy (Blackbird, Nine, Province...). Ovie hits a nice middle ground. Menu selections are varied, giving good selections for those of a meat-and-potato disposition, as well as those who are vegetarian. The selections also vary in price-sandwiches and salads for $12-15, or more substantial entrees (including several fish selections) for $25+. Service was great, and overall, its a convenient and very tasty option in the near west side. The one drawback is that it's under the train tracks leaving Oglivie, but realistically, it's hardly noticeable and being near the train is a location plus for many. I'll be returning.

Lunch was very good at Ovie and since the three of us had a bit of a flexible schedule, it turned into a leisurely event. The food was very good, the service was OK but trying to locate our waiter was trying at times - especially when we were looking to receive the bill so we could pay and exit your establishment. I had been to Ovie in the past and sat outside for a casual business meeting. Ovie is not far from my office so I will keep it in mind for future meetings and gatherings

Amazing Service/Happy Hour spot!
We came with a small group after work and stayed well into the evening. Food was great, service was fantastic, drinks were delish. 1/2 price bottles of wine on Tuesdays!! It was a little hard to find in Ogilvie - right by the French Market - but once we found it, the place was awesome!!

Great Place to grab lunch!
This is a great place to grab lunch, or any other meal for that matter. The food is top notch, the service is awesome! The restaurant has a nice decor. I was a part of a party of 7, the table was ready on time. This was my second visit to the restaurant, and there will be many more. I was there for a team lunch. Our drinks were promptly refilled, meals came in a timely manner as ordered. The servers and manager on duty have a great attitude. You're promptly greeted by the hostess upon entering. The greeting is warm and genuine.

Near the train station, so meeting friends there makes it easy if you have a train to catch. Food good but same menu for lunch and dinner.

There's Always Another Train
This is the motto of Ovie Bar & Grill and we had a nice relaxing lunch on a Friday. We went at 2 so we missed the lunch crowd and beat the after work crowd. Food is very good, I recommend ANY of the flatbreads, and except for the music playing a bit too loudly, we were able to enjoy a leisurely lunch and then just walk up the stairs to our train.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
In an area of Chicao's West Loop barren of restaurants let alone excellent ones, Ovie stands out.

The waitstaff noticed that
The waitstaff noticed that I brought a birthday present to my work lunch meeting for a colleague and they surprised by bringing out a beautiful creme brulee complimentary to celebrate at the end of lunch! Well done!

All the food we had was cooked to perfection from the appetizers to the desserts. We had six in our party everyone ordered something different and everyone loved what they ordered. The staff is very friendly there was no rush. Plenty of TVs at the bar for sports. It's somewhat a hidden gem being that it's on the east side of the French Market area of the Ogilvie Transportation Center.

GREAT place to go before the Theatre.
I love tbe convenience of getting off the train
And going down to be greeted by a smiling and welcoming
Person who takes you to your table and who treats you like Royalty
The food is delicious especially the soup and salads. ..oh the pub burgers are good too!
This is my new favorite spot before the theater!

Glad we checked it out
We live close and walk by frequently and have meant to try them out. Went for supper on a Wednesday night. Hopping place right after work. Our server was friendly and prompt. Have a nice by-the-glass wine list and we had arugula and beet salads (yum) and then we both thought the tuna sounded good - and it was very good. The crispy polenta was nice side. Will go back soon.
