Great food, very expensive
Try the veal- its the best in the city. But at $50, it's pricey. Luckily you get a generous portion. Skip dessert as you are in the village and can have your pick of inexpensive cafe's serving any coffee and dessert you like.

Was seated on time, with no problem, but there's really no room in the restaurant to wait since there's no real bar area.
If you're a little early or they're late with the table youre standing in a busy hallway in an already cramped restaurant.
The combination of the very high quality ingredients and a new more sophisticated look at traditional italian restaurant dishes makes this place special.
The overconfident wait staff that seems very interested in selling everything pretty hard takes stars away from this place.
Seems to be the peripheral things that take away what is a really amazing restaurant.

We Had a Great Anniversary
My husband and I went to Carbone for our wedding anniversary and it was phenomenal. The waiter was fantastic and the food was outstanding. The mushroom pasta dish we started with was even better than the one I had at Villa D'Este. The baked clams are a must as is the veal parmesan.
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
I would consider it the best Italian Restaurant in New York. Every dish is delicious. The oysters are incredible. The pasta, rigatoni is sensational. I have been back a few times already and each time it was consistent. The service is excellent and the ambience is fun.
We had the steak the other night which just melted in your mouth. There wasn't one thing on the menu that we didn't like. I highly recommend this restaurant. You have to make reservations weeks in advance.

A hard reservation to get, but worth the effort. The food was just great! The veal parm was the best we ever had. The chicken scarparella was also amazing. Fun place, great wine and service . A must for us to return

Highly recommend--a real gem!
If you are looking for great food and service in a warm and friendly atmosphere, Carbone is it. You have to book 30 days in advance, but it is well worth the wait.

Alot of fun on my bday
Food was great and If you like red sauce Italian joints a la il million, you will dig it here. The veal parm was great and the mozzarella caprese was awesome. Rigatoni and all the complimentary sides to start were fun and tasty. The banana split was untraditional and lacked any chocolate impact. Too much in the fruit sorbet or ice cream dept here.

great Italian food
We ate at the restaurant on Sunday September 1st and had a great time! The food and service was great and the Caesar salad was the best I have ever eaten!!! They make the salad at the table. The coconut desert was really good too! My only complaint was after we finished our meal they started playing heavy rap music really loud!!! It was around 11:00pm I guess they wanted us to leave so they could close but we did notice there were other people eating too. For that reason (loud rap profanity music) I would not dine at Carbone again!!!!

The ambience is a classic early-60s neighborhood Italian restaurant supper club that's (theoretically) been on the block since sometime after Prohibition. The food is perfect and perfectly prepared; the portions are seriously large; the wine list is beyond extensive - not cheap, but it's NYC - and the sommelier, like the waitstaff, is most helpful. The front rooms are much quieter than the back; the back room is more mood-lit; both are classic and timeless. I had the best veal parm I've ever had in the US or Italy. Seriously, the best, nothing close.

Our dinner was fabulous, from the ambiance, to the food, and especially to the service. We started with the appetizers of baked clams and meatballs. That started the night off with something extra special. We then ordered the ravioli with a pesto and cream sauce and ended with chicken scarpariello and lobster. We definitely ordered too much food which was stated by our waiter, but we knew that we could take our leftovers home for dinner. We had a perfect night and we are looking forward to eating our leftovers tonight.

Amount of food was overwhelming.
Amount of food was overwhelming. In 2013 it would be better to have less food and lower prices. $50 for a veal parmiganga is way too high.

Throwback Red Sauce Joint
I had been hyping Carbone in my mind for months. Usually that's dangerous, but Carbone delivered. I had dinner with my husband and parents who were visiting us, and remember red sauce joints from the late 1960s. Carbone has great atmosphere, attentive and thoughtful service and great food. But beware, you can easily over-order and find that the prices are very much not retro. The baked clams, Caesar salad (made in front of you!) and caprese were stand-outs as was the veal parmesan (a very shareable entree). Treat yourself sometime. The sommelier was great as well and there were some deals on the wine list. I can't wait to go back when I can snag another reservation.

all around wonderful
The food was superb, music was great and service couldn't be better. We loved every moment of our dinner. My husband said it was the best lamb chops he ever had. Octopus was amazing and pasta was cooked perfectly. We will definately return. Only difficulty is getting a reservation.

Love would come back anytime!
Yet again, my review is best restaurant in NYC. Hands down

Great Italian Food and Ambiance
Had a wonderful dining experience at Carbone during a client dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant was packed and everyone was have a great time. We had a very nice corner table and the wait staff were very attentive and accommodating. The receptionists were so sweet when two of my party had to cancel at the last minute - they took everything in stride. If you are looking for a neighborhood restaurant with fantastic food that has an upscale feel, but still very intimate, this is the place for you. We also heard rumor that Beyonce and Jay Z were there just a couple nights before us.

Can't wait to go back
The food here was amazing. They bring you prosciutto, a parmesan cheese wedge and pizza bread when you sit down compliments of the house which is a lot of food. We had their salad as a starter. They also do a table side Caesar salad which I wish we had. The table next to us had it and they raved about it. We had the clams vongole as a pasta dish which was to DIE FOR! We also had the lobster fra diavolo which was good. You can spend a lot here. It's decadent but worth every dollar if you like good food and a good dining experience it was well worth it. The sommelier was great and recommended great wines to use. I highly recommend this place. It lived up to all its hype!

Great 'Special Occasion' place but pricy... Service and environment top notch. Food was outstanding. Only mark was the much anticipated entrees were a little bit of a drop-off from all the other courses. Still outstanding but the courses before the entree were just that good...

I would consider Carbone the best Italian Restaurant in New York. Its simply fabulous!
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Close to great ...
Wonderful, expensive restaurants in NYC are hardly unusual, and the veal parma was beyond excellent, but $85 for lobster fra diablo was a bit over the top as was $24 for a glass of wine.

Best. Meal. Ever.
I took my boyfriend for his 30th birthday and it was the best meal of our lives. Of course it's a bit on the pricey side, it was well worth it for a special occasion. The food and service goes unmatched. Craving the Veal Parmesan as we speak! Truly a memorable evening...this is what New York fine/exceptional dining is all about!
9/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Get a bank loan!
Very good food. Out of sight prices for lunch. Great martini and wonderful freebie prosciutto and bread. $30 pasta with funghi was a bit small to share. The chicken was good-but not mindblowing though the price was. 9 baked clams prepared 3 ways was innovative and delish.
Sambucca with the expresso was a nice touch-a reminder of the former incarnation pf the place. (ROCCO'S)

One of my favorite new places
One of my favorite new places I've tried. Not one complaint about this restaurant. I can't wait to go back and hope everyone could experience the great night my group and I had. Good for Celeb spotting too if that's your thing.
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Exceded My Expectations!
Upon entering the restaurant it was immediately apparent that the staff was attentive and helpful. Gold star for having servers and staff stop in their tracks to allow guests to pass.
Our dining experience was enhanced when we allowed the waitress to take over and control our menu. Everything was perfectly prepared and excellent!
The Sommelier was equally helpful with identifying and pouring wines we liked.
Our entire party thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

First Class Dinning
We went to Carbone for our 1 year anniversary. The service and food was absolutely first class. I highly recommend the Veal Parm, proportions are large. They constantly bring out different types of food while waiting for you meal. Our waiter was first class and everyone in the restaurant made us feel special. The place is definitely an amazing spot. Service was amazing!

Great food, cocktails and wine! My only complaint was the slow service. Luckily, we were in no rush but I can see how that would bother other people. Digging into the food specifically, we ordered the Octopus, the Lobster Mezzaluna, Spicy Rigatoni and the Veal Parmesan all to split. The Lobster Mezzaluna was out of this world - total delicious indulgence. The Spicy Rigatoni was also really fantastic as was the Veal Parmesan (though it's enormous and could feed a small country). The Octopus was good but not great. I probably would've swapped that out for something else. My favorite part was actually the small bites they give you before and after your meal. The focaccia and parmesan were super tasty. And the chocolate biscotti was incredible.
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went here for lunch with a friend, and the ambiance, decor, service and most of all the food was amazing and impeccable.
My new favorite place.

Can't decide if it's worth the hype
My boyfriend felt it was the best Italian food he has ever had. I felt it was really good. $300 good? Not so sure. I paid $30 for two plates of tortellini - there was 3 tortellini on each plate. Granted they were homemade but wow. That's pricey. Also had the baked clams. I've definitely had better. These were tiny and not very special. Alternatively my boyfriend had the Caesar salad which he loved. We split the $54 veal parmigiana - which came with no sides - and while it was really good I couldn't get over the price. I think the restaurant is probably worth trying but I recommend you are prepared for the prices and stay, away from the clams.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was fantastic, our waiter was terrific and they've got the best Pandora station for background music ever! The restaurant only started lunch service about a month ago and we were there on a Monday when it was pretty empty so I'm not sure what the Noise Level would be like if the restaurant was full, especially given that the tables are pretty close together.

Great Night at Carbones
Awesome Restaurant, the food was great and the Service was incredible.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best on planet!!
Not to be missed! Best food, service and atmosphere. We go regularly! Everything on menu is spectacular. And music playing creates fun atmosphere. Only negative is it's hard to get a reservation. Keep trying....so worth it
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
I really loved the decor, I thought the food was delicious. It was expensive even for NY standards, but I felt the ingredients, preparation and taste made up for the $$$$$. The baked clams were really interesting as there were three different preparations on the plate.
The extra touches such as grandma's bread, marinated califlower were interesting as well. Please open up in Phillly.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good but expected better.
I expected the Caesar salad to be sublime and, while it was good, I was disappointed. The meatballs were the best thing. Very flavorful and high quality. My lobster fra diavlo was just okay. I expected it to be served with pasta with spicy sauce and it was not. I plan to go back but will order differently. The service was attentive and the feel of restaurant is great.

Truly Outstanding !
I had an outstanding experience at Carbone this Thursday evening. It is excellent. The atmosphere is like going back in time to the wonderful traditional Italian restaurants. The food is incredible. Every dish we ordered was delicious. Our waiter, Louie, was great, fun, and incredibly helpful in suggesting things to try. The sommelier chose an amazing and reasonable barolo.
The atmosphere is warm, very friendly, fun and elegant.
We loved it.

Little restaurant packs a big punch
A friend told me carbone was good but the menu looked so simple and basic that I didn't see how it could deliver. Boy was I wrong. Every single dish outshone anything like it I've had elsewhere. Those meatballs!!!! The veal Parmesan has no rival. The whole dorado was delicious. The wine was a perfect match Even the breads and chopped salad were fantastic. I was going to pass on dessert but saw the one at the next table and had to have it. It was the best gelato I have ever tasted. There were 3 scoops: Nutella, chocolate , and pistachio. What a meal!

Great authentic italian food !
We love the food :delicious salad to share ,great pasta and ,perfect meat!
Deserts are outrageous and ,huge,,very nice winelist.Service was not that good.

Really good food really high prices
Go to Carbone if you don't mind overpaying for upscale old school Italian food.
They've retained the charm of the old Rocco's and the waiters are charming as well.
But compared even to Lupa across the street, be prepared for a big tab. Oh, and the wine by
the glass averages over $20 per.
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Had a lovely evening and spectacular meal!! Food was outstanding, server really did a great job helping us to navigate the menu. His selections and recs were spot on and never rushed us through our dining experience.
Only reason for the less star is pricing - we were prepared to spend but holy moly $400 Sunday night dinner bill, Wowzas!
Will return, hopefully on someone else's tab ;-)
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
liked the food. loved the vibe.
Tried the daily oysters (raw), oxtail cavatelli, pork chop, and charred broccoli. First, i loved our server. I thought he was funny, charming, helpful, with just the right amount of attitude/teasing. i loved the old-school decor and the very fancy schmancy waiters. second, the food was flavorful but not too salty. and the broccoli was very interesting with the in-your-face citrusy flavor. all the freebies (parmigiano chunks, bread, prosciutto) were great and a wonderful warm-up/accompaniment to the meal. Wish I'd had room for dessert. for a place that feels very "old boys club," my girlfriend and i didn't feel out of place and everyone was so nice to us. Wish we'd had bigger stomachs (or a bigger group) so i could've tasted more things.
11/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
The best meal I have had in a very long time. Veal Parm was worth the cost and the spicy rigatoni vodka was amazing
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
Enjoyed the Food , the Service was very good. I asked for a table with a seat not facing the wall, did not get it.
Overall it was a pleasant experience

A lunchtime find
Haven't made it for dinner but no one seems to know Carbone is open for lunch yet... Fabulous menu, amazing service. Definitely worth the trip in the middle of the day.

We had a delicious lunch at Carbone the food was perfect ,but our waiter was not great he seemed annoyed when we did not order alcohol . I also had a bit of a problem that he did not tell us the price of the two items on the menu that had M/P . It was a bit of a surprise that the lobster fra diavolo was $85. All in all the food was impeccable and we will be back for sure.

This is a wonderful restaurant. It is a little expensive but the food is delicious. The staff is wonderful. They are very attentive and make your visit memorable. The clams were the best I have ever eaten. Great place for a special occasion.
