Gnocchi was the most amazing
Gnocchi was the most amazing I have ever had. They made a delicious vegetarian risotto for me (not on the menu). Service was excellent.

Gem of a BYOB. Best meal I've had in a long time. Chef came to the table and was really personable - very hard working! Highly recommend!

The gnocchi, foie gras and duck were outstanding. My girlfriend ordered the short ribs, which were good, but somewhat lackluster in terms of flavor. Everything else - service and ambience - was excellent, and the duck was exquisite.

Great meal. The chef/owner
Great meal. The chef/owner is personable and informative. Thoroughly enjoyed dinner; the gnocchi(s) much better than Vetri's.

A great spot! Wonderful food.
A great spot! Wonderful food. The menu always has choices that include complex flavors that have been chosen and prepared with skill. Wait staff are attentive and helpful. When I go, I always winder how I could have forgotten to go for a while. It's clear that a chef is doing what he loves and we benefit.

This was the third time we've been to Bistro 7. Again, I think the food is outstanding and its presentation is great. The service is attentive without being intrusive. It would be hard to improve on the cooking. The cook fortunately has a light hand with the salt. Never the less, the flavors of the food were quite fine. Many restaurants are a bit freer with salt than I would prefer. A word of warning for those not from Philadelphia - It is BYOB. I did not find this to be a problem since I was prepared.

We enjoyed the food a great deal. Obviously prepared with great care and expertise. We will visit Bistro 7 regularily

The menu was very interesting, and the dishes were spectacular. I hadn't been to Bistro 7 in a while, but will make sure that it is on our list of restaurants that we simply love.

Best BYOB restaurant tin Old City
Creative, seasonal and sustainable menu brings you back to this little gem often.

4 people, different dishes, everyone sampled each others, and the food was excellent overall except for the crust of the lemon meringue dessert (dry and lacked flavor). Main complaint was skimpy portions for the price. I would recommend it to certain friends, with reservations, because it shows some creative promise, and sources of dissatisfaction could change over time.
6/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
We dined there a few years ago and loved the overall experience. Dined there two years ago and couldn't wait to get out: annoying waiter, subpar food, and very bad vibe. The last experience was a major hit. The scallops and soft shell crabs wer divine. The beets appetizer was creative and tasty, and the service was nice. The remodeling is also a big plus.

Romantic delightightful BYOB
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our quiet, romantice dinner here. An unnassuming storefront leads directly into a quaint, home-style dining area. We were seated upon arrival at our reservation time, and the service was timed perfectly, definitely not rushed, although it was not crowded at our later dining time. The beet appetizer was outstanding, and the scallop entree for my wife was to die for. The goat’s cheese and bacon tartiflette which accompanied the beef entree was outstanding as well, excellent presentation and flavors.
Server was very nice and professional, and the chef visited the table to ask how our meal was. A nice touch.

worth every penny!
Brilliant meal with great attention to layers of flavors and texture! Fresh and refreshing approach to modern french cooking and you can bring your own wine. What more could you want.

We had a wonderful dinner at Bistro 7. We selected the tasting menu and weren't disappointed with any of the dishes. The range of dishes was great, ending with a terrific dessert.

Fine dining in Philadelphia
Bistro 7 rightfully deserves a top 50 listing in Philadelphia. Five of us had dinner, two steaks, two chickens and one fried oysters. All were excellent. Gazpacho as starter was perfectly spiced and chilled. Desserts were off the charts; peach and blueberry crisp, pot de creme, and the best, rice pudding I've ever had. The coffee was superb as well.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
ok not great
the room is beautiful, ambience is outstanding. the menu is balanced and thoughtful. the entree chicken and scallops were strong, greens salad and beet terrine excellent. only one complaint: the appetizer cornbread encrusted oysters were mediocre-the cornmeal was rough and overpowered the oysters and the vegetable puree was heavily salted. . the concept was wonderful, however.

Fun Food Experience
From outside, the restaurant doesn't look like much. But the ambience inside the restaurant is nice and the chef's tasting menu, while a bit pricey, was a delicious and delightful tasting experience.

Excellent tasting menu
We took the decision to order the tasting menu (available weeknights) and had delightful 10-course meal. Unlike some tasting menus where many/all of the items are not from the menu, this was a best of the menu with tapas scaled servings. The items I would have ordered a la carte were as delicious as I thought they would be but others that I might not otherwise have tried were great as well. With superb service the meal flowed smoothly. We had a spicy white wine (BYOB) that served as a good complement to the food. We'll do it again soon.

small gem of a French BYOB
Chef Michael came to visit at our table with his recommendations. He sent a tasting portion of the gazpacho, with a ball of tomato sorbet floating in it. Delicious escargots (just too salty); loved the yellow and red beet terrine.
We ordered soft-shell crab "sandwich"(on a bed of brioche), lightly fried to perfection, the beef and the duck. Everything was outstanding. Desserts were also wonderful: a rich chocolate pot de creme and a fruit dessert.
Our only complaint was that the escargots and beef were overly salty, detracting from the amazing fresh combination of flavors in all the food. If you dine there (and you really should), ask Chef Michael to cut back the salt. It's tiny; make a reservation. Menu changes seasonally.

Best escargots in the city!!! Worth a visit just for them! Pernod snails? OMG!!! DELICIOUS!

Great food, but spartan decor
The food was very good, the menu was fairly restricted, and the service was perfect except for an initial surly reception by the person who seated us. We asked for a table away from the door (all tables in the small room were unoccupied) and this was greeted with surly compliance. The food was wonderful and was promptly brought.
I think for the very high prices asked, the store-front dining room should be made more pleasant and an attempt should be made to decorate the bare walls. The door was kept open for ventilation and throughout the dinner the only thing to look at besides fellow diners was the traffic and noise on 3rd street. .
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Amazing combinations of flavors make every dish at our table just great.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Flavors that amazed. And the advantage of a BYOB speaks for itself too.

There were four of us, and we all had the tasting menu, We all concurred that the chef did an outstanding job, We enjoyed all ten courses, and I don't believe there was a scrap of food left on any of our plates. There was variety in taste and texture; with smooth and crunchy, hot and cold, sweet and savory. The presentation of each dish was beautiful, and the server was very efficient and informative, without being at all intrusive. We all agreed that it was one of the best meals we had eaten in a long time,

A little gem
Wonderful food - small but inventive menu, with great flavors. Homemade bread too. Can't believe we found a BYOB in the City. Almost opposite Fork & The Continental yet not as busy. Lovely decor and music. Owner Chef & Sous chef on view in open kitchen

I came across Bistro 7 while staying in Philadelphia and thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant. The food selection was rather unique and very satisfying visually and on the palate. A definite thumbs up for this find!

The food is tremendous and the chef very accommodating. Great place for a foodie date.

On an apparently unusually quiet Friday on a lead in to Restaurant week, we shared the restaurant with only one other couple. Maybe because of this, service was a little hit and miss. There also was no air conditioning so we sat next to the open door. However, the food made up for everything. My husband had the gnocchi appetizer and scallops as main course with a peach and blueberry crisp for desert. He loved all of it. I had a cold red and yellow beet terrine, the beef calotte and chocolate mousse. The terrine was very refreshing, the beef perfectly done with an interesting potato and goat cheese pave. As we knew it was a BYOB restaurant, we took one of our favourite wines to enjoy with dinner.

Nice, quaint restaurant
Nice ambiance-- small enough and not too noisy. Food was good-- tasty, but what I chose (salmon) not to rave about. Pork and polenta dish others picked was better. Went on restaurant week, so maybe better at other times when less crowded
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wanted somewhere nice to go with my family for Restaurant Week and this fit the bill nicely. They're described as "modern French" which allowed my dad to try goose liver mousse but still gave more simple fare for the less adventurous in my family. My beet salad was lovely, the chicken was moist, and the rice pudding was awesome. AND they're BYOB!
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Lovely dinner, best gnocchi I've ever had better then what they served in Tuscany.
Great service, they were so thoughtful they knew it was my husband's birthday and they brought over his dessert with a candle.
I truly appreciated that.
I highly recommend Bistro 7!!!

Walking on 3rd St one day, I noticed Bistro 7. It has a wonderful menu served in an intimate space. The food was outstanding. I would recommend it for a romantic night out anytime.

Our party of 4 was there for pre theater dining. We all enjoyed our meals very much. The duck was supurb. We will be back.

Good Combo of BYOB and Great Food
Small place, just 11 tables, 8 years old (as of this writing),with a limited menu . . . about 5 appetizers, entrees and desserts from which to choose. Everything we tried was delicious! And it appears that the menu changes from month to month, which means we'll have to go back!
Server was very knowledgeable about the menu and, frankly, very proud of the restaurant.
Ambiance was nothing special, but pleasant enough.
If you forget to bring the wine, a shop is only about a block and a half away on 2nd below Market St.

Good friends and fine food
Best food ever! It was a short menu with distinctive selections. We were a party of three; our entrées were Skate filet, duck breast, and Scottish salmon. Our starters were green salad, fennel, and escargot. We sampled three desserts. Throughout the meal we kept exclaiming; fabulous! Located in a small narrow building in an eclectic area of Philadelphia the food far outshined the place's ambiance. I am definitely going back for the food!

The food and service are always very good at this restaurant. This time was no exception. We l ook forward to our next dinner at Bistro 7.

Charming small place
Always interesting food, well presented and delicious.Service is generally good, but this time, we had to wait 45 minutes for our entrees, too long on a theater evening. Also, music too loud in such a small space.

Bistro 7 Brings Forth a Fine Dinner
This is our second time at Bistro 7 in Center City and we were even more pleased this time than last. The beet salad is always a special starter and this time we added foie gras, which was exceptional. Main courses of breast of duck and skate were just beautifully presented and delicious to eat. We weren't rushed on a Saturday night and it was a great experience.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Went to this lovely byob for a special birthday. Everything was delicious, and the service was excellent. It was well-paced- not rushed, not slow. The gnocchi were like delicate pillows, and the duck had just a hint of 5 spice with perfectly crispy skin. The cheese plate was a little disappointing in that it was a single large block of cold Brie, but the sweet sides that came with it were beautiful.
