Great Place in Palo Alto
The restaurant has a rustic California feel. A lot of the décor reminded me of Napa Valley. It has a high noise level so brining your kids is great. It has a lively active tempo. I liked the exposed wood beams, and contemporary art. It has a high class feel without being pretentious.
I highly recommend the Cold/Hot Asparagus soup! It is a cool concoction of ice cream on top of hot asparagus soup – a positively unique experience. I also loved the Palo Alto chopped salad – it was a cornucopia of fresh flavors. My main course was the pot pie – which was very delicious – especially the crust; my wife got the Scallops – they were perfectly cooked and delicious. Palo Alto grill is a great place to eat, and they have a cool bar area too!

Will definitely go back for the same dish and to try others. Did not give five stars because I was not quite mopping the plate for every drop on every dish. The skirt steak was fantastic--tender and flavorful--but the crab/horseradish side was too salty. The asparagus soup was also fantastic. The poached egg small plate was very tasty, but the egg was underdone for my preference. Scallops also came underdone for my taste. Dessert was delicious and fun.
The sound level was too loud at first for comfortable conversation, but it quieted down. Service and pacing of dishes were excellent. We never felt we were waiting too long for any of our food to come out. When they get the last few kinks out this will be an outstanding restaurant.

PAG offers quite a few unique
PAG offers quite a few unique and delicious dishes! The Hot-Cold Asparagus Soup is a must try, along with the Roasted Bone Marrow. The Dungeness Crab Ciuppino was delicately seasoned allowing the sweetness of the seafood shined through. Grilled Steak Frites was perfectly cooked to our request! 64% Chocolate Torte, beautifully plated, was definitely a winner! Service was top-notched!

My wife and I went to Palo Alto Grill for "Date Night" and had a great time.
The service is polite and friendly and the food is excellent. The pork belly appetizer is melt in your mouth delicious, the poached egg dish is light, interesting and very tasty and the bone marrow is a well executed classic.
The steaks are amongst the best in Palo Alto - especially the T-Bone. Cooked to medium rare perfection and full of flavor.
Bruce the co-owner is a great host and spends a lot of time chatting with people to make sure their experience is perfect!!
Definitely a place to try in downtown Palo Alto!!

High Quality Not Overstuff-Quantity
Lunch was a sandwich, pastrami on rye. Everything, e.g., bread and pastrami,i was made there. The fries were great. The portions were just right. I am tired of paying for quantity, in lieu of quality. I will return to this fine restaurant. The service was equal to the food.

This new steakhouse in Palo
This new steakhouse in Palo Alto is a cut above the rest. Don't look for your typical slab of meat on a plate with no accompaniments. The chef is very creative and adds great twists (think real smoke on the steak) to high quality pieces of beef. I got the hot and cold asperagus soup which you would have thought came out of a Michelin starred restaurant. Creative, with layers, and complimentary flavors and textures. We did not get dessert, but we saw a few go by and they looked outstanding. Service (Nicole) was personal, attentive, and warm. A great new add to the Palo Alto dining scene.

Once again, our family enjoyed
Once again, our family enjoyed a delicious dinner at PAG. The Grilled Octopus was tender and seasoned to perfection. Turf and Turf was excellently prepared with the pastrami complimenting the steak. The combination of kale and Kabocha with a hint of citrus was a good choice to bring out the flavor of the Duck Breast. Scallops were sweet and tender! Must try the Matcha Green Tea Macaron and Key Lime cheesecake if available for the night's special. The Blackberry Tart was also a winner!

I had loved the previous restaurant the owners of Palo Alto Grill had so I had to try to this one. Overall, I was not disappointed. The evening started out a little rough - the bus boy wasn't friendly at first, giving us odd glances and even spilled water all over my friend. My friend's distilled water came right away but I had to ask for my sparking water twice. Also, my glass had come with lemon when I had requested a lime. They fixed this and while I didn't get ice, the worst was over at this point. As soon as the food started coming my opinion completely changed! The beef carpaccio was the best I've ever had and my steak cut like better. Also, our waitress was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the food.

Mark my words...will soon be known
as one of the best restaurants in the SF Bay area. Michellin star quality. Chef Skelton is going to emerge as one of the best....

New Place in Town
Palo Alto Grill is a nice addition to downtown Palo Alto.
Everything we ordered, from the Chopped Salad, to the
Turf and Turf and Halibut, and the great desserts, was
delicious. Will be back, soon.

My new favorite restaurant!
Pleasant, delicious dinner! The corn soup was unbelievable! Tasted like a tamale in a soup. This steakhouse offers many choices of delicious steaks, but my favorite entre is the chicken. Desserts are heavenly. Fun beautiful place to eat and great service too. Check it out! Enjoy

GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE!!!
You never know what you will get when you try a new restaurant, with mixed reviews. We are very happy we tried this one! Food was great, service was timely, but not all over you. I will be back soon.

Really an excellent meal - first great steak house in the palo alto area. Loved the variety of the menu with excellent fish choices.

The bread was good, the mustard
The bread was good, the mustard spread was not wonderful. The food was all fine, no complaints at our table. The hamburger was extraordinary. I would go back for that.
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was delicious and truly beautiful! They took a lot of pride in serving gorgeous meals. We were a party of 4 and we did not have to ask for one thing the whole meal. Water was always there and our wine came exactly when we wanted it to.

Great food - something for everyone
I thought I would give this place a try for a business meeting/dinner. Turned out to be a great choice as they have a very eclectic menu and everyone found something interesting. A little pricing given the serving portions - except for the stake which was a standard size.
7/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everyone here cares and it shows
From the service to the menu to the plating to the food, this place has a little something special going. Very imaginative menu which only matters if the food is good - and it is. Everyone here cares and it shows. Have been to too many restaurants in the area where the food just isn't good enough to make you feel like you care about going back. The flavors, presentation, and vibe make this worth a return! All the fun parts of good cuisine without the pretentiousness.

Great new place, Chef has a hit!
We didn't know what to expect from this "steakhouse", since it's relatively new to the Palo Alto restaurant scene. It is absolutely gourmet in the quality of the menu, preparations of the food, presentations, AND service!
We highly recommend the corn soup, an explosion of combined flavors that mix in the mouth in a delectable experience; and the yellowtail crudo, which was almost too beautiful to eat, but a delicious combination of fish, fruit, and flower. The entrees were exquisite, and the desserts fantastic - chocolate torte - yes!

Special Dinner with the Brewer
We went for a special menu concocted with PA Brewing Co and paired with their beers. Delicious and very original!

Bruce & Luka Nail It!
The follow-on to Lavanda is a huge success. Although a different theme, the solution works. Took out of town guests there and they were blown away. And the service was exemplary. We miss BJ from Lavanda, but our server was every bit as great.

A nice new place, but...
We dined at the PA Grill for the first time last Monday, 7/22. Overall the food was good, but not outstanding. We would have appreciated a wider selection of Pinot Noirs by the glass. A choice of one is not really competitive with other similar places. I requested that my "Southern Gentleman" steak be cooked medium rare and when it came, it had a "M Rare" tag, so the server must have had it right.
But when I cut into it, it was clearly a lot less done, maybe a rare or less. How can a steak house not know to cook to a requested point? They need to pick up on this quickly.
The ambiance was generally good with a moderate noise level, probably due to our dining early and to a very slow evening.
We will probably return in a month or so.

Great place in downtown Palo Alto
We loved the Grill. We celebrated my husband's birthday before attending a concert at Standford, and the food and service were excellent. Our server, Ann, was very attentive and made us feel special. Loved the Croatian items, and they are authentic having just returned form a trip there. Wonderful steaks, served with several choices of accompaniments. Definitely will go back next time were are in the area.

We enjoyed Palo Alto Grill. Went there on a whim on Saturday night. Very crowded. Noise level was a bit much.
Service was very good and attentive.

Great find on Open Table
So glad this restaurant came up on our Open Table search. The food, service and ambiance were all terrific. I especially loved the Brussels sprouts. That's saying a lot!

Pairing Red Meat and Red Wine
Palo Alto Grill has a great wine list...but an even greater idea for bringing in customers. They waived corkage fees this past week, allowing patrons to bring a wonderful bottle of wine from home to enjoy with the superb steaks and hamburgers. A rare practice, but appreciated. Well done Grill.

Palo Alto Grill
Although the name of the restraunt is not suiting, the food is still excellent. My lunch consisted of the puree of corn soup and grilled Japanese octopus. Both were excellent as a result of the creative plating and delicate blend of flavors.
As for the bread that was brought to the table, it was an experience. They gave us a variety of salts to try with a unique mustard-type cream dip. Worked fantastic wth the warm pretzel pieces.

great chef, but expensive
This restaurant has an amazing chef who used to be at a number of 3 star michelin restaurants, including Baume.
The restaurant however, is not cheap, so don't go expecting a bargain priced meal.
If you order the burger, ask them to skip the pepper and make sure the fries are the chef's famous triple crisps....

Creative start, mundane end
Drinks and appetizers were delightful, salad was a great presentation, but the dressing was flat. Entrees were more pedestrian, and lacked for sauce, dessert was perhaps a little disappointing. Staff was great, timing on things was good. We were a party of 7 and that was no problem.
9/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
octopus starter is fabulous!
Have been here twice, and the food and wine were wonderful both times. Had the octopus starter both times, and LOVE it. Apparently one of the owners is Croatian; we had similar wonderful grilled octopus on our wonderful sailing vacation in Croatia. Loved it there; love it at Palo Alto Grill.
My friend and I are not fans of televisions in restaurants. Are they really necessary? They are an unpleasant distraction from the lovely food and wine.

Pleasant meal. Server was very good. Food tended to be overcooked and/or chewy. They offered to remake the dish for which I provided feedback. Intentions are good. Hopefully, they will continue to improve. Great location for attending events at Stanford.

Our party of nine, including 3 children, was comfortably accommodated by the Palo Alto Grill! They gave us a private room, even with short notice and acknowledged the milestone anniversary we were celebrating. Ann Marie and the servers were attentive and sensitive. The food was very good to excellent depending on the particular dish. In particular we enjoyed the Brussels sprouts, the lobster, and the steaks. Thanks for an enjoyable evening!

Delicious and Delightful
Palo Alto Grill was a wonderful treat for my mother, grandmother, and myself. The service was helpful and knowledgeable - the menu was a bit overwhelming, but our waiter steered us through it and made excellent suggestions. The noise was a little much - the live music was great, but combined with the conversation from patrons at other tables, it was a bit difficult to hear ourselves. No matter, it added to the ambience. The steak was melting-on-the-tongue tender, the seafood fresh and flavorful, and the wine list layered. A lovely place for parties, I imagine.

Excellent menu, with some creative and unusual choices... not only was the food and service spectacular but the meal presentations were an added bonus... we would recommend this place to all our friends...

Worth a visit
We tried PA Grill because we had been to the chef's previous restaurant in Santa Cruz. This place is great! While it's called a steak house, that undersells it in so many ways. Starters and non-steak mains are wonderful, desserts are great. Nice staff. Quite a noisy room.
10/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful food, politely served
I love the Palo Alto Grill! Not is the food consistently delicious, and the service consistently professional, cordial and attentive, but you can count on the grill to provide a quiet comfortable setting for dining that is so rare these days. I also give extra points for their special touches so as a basket of three artisan breads, mustard-cheese sauce and a choice of three sea salts on the table. Try the steak salad and you will get enough prime steak for a main meal. The squash and vegetable pot pie never disappoints. The daily specials are always creative and beautifully prepared. This is definitely a place to go for either a romantic meal or a unrushed business meal.
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
This restaurant is a winner. We will definitely return.

Great Dining Experience!!
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner. We celebrated a family birthday party and were thrilled with the food and the service. The Italian tenor was an added bonus to a great evening!

Had a great dinner here with several friends. All the food was outstanding -- steak delicious, scallops very good, side dishes fantastic (brussel sprouts out of this world!). Cocktails were also top-notch. We also loved the bread basket and the different salt options with the steak. We were not disappointed with anything. It was a Monday night and we were only 1 of 3 groups present -- service staff was quite good, attentive but not over-bearing given there weren't many other people in the restaurant.

We had a mixed review on the entrees. The fish entrees were all deemed excellent but the meat dishes were just satisfactory. The sides such as the brussel sprouts and potato dishes were great, and my wife thought the carrots were the best.

Food to die for
Fun times, great food, great service, the small plates are fun to share. It's not all the time my friends and I get to try octopus, corn puddin', quail, etc. then the STEAKS!!! just a suggestion, the "southern gentleman" will not disappoint. They have great wines, beer, and soon a liquor license. then DESSERTS!! OMG cappuccinos with all the desserts, mmmmmm.. The best part is, after trying everything, and enjoying ourselves, the price was not high at all. I will be going back soon!

Fantastic Night Out!
I had the best night out at Palo Alto Grill. Fantastic steak and Seafood. Celebrated my 2 year anniversary there, the food, atmosphere was great. I enjoyed the Californian! But the Chocolate desert was so Unique, loved it!!!
Will be back again.

A fabulous new place
Trying out a restaurant that has just opened can be risky - the management, staff & kitchen of P.A. Grill are the gold standard for how to launch. We started out happy to see a waiter we already knew was a pro from another downtown Palo Alto restaurant. The wine choices were strong and the food innovative, but not just for the sake of being innovative. And the steak was worthy of a restaurant with the word Grill in its name. If we had not known that the restaurant had just opened, we would have assumed this was a well established place beloved by its customers. I can be a tough critic, but this place was fabulous. We will definitely be back.

If you like food with flavor.
If you want a great, no a fantastic meal then this is the place to go. There not afraid to use flavor in the food.
This is old world Europein style flavored with new world flair.
In a nut shell, if you think your a good cook and this is the kind of cooking you we're raised on, go and you will be very glad you did.
For a Palo Alto restruant, this has got to be the best bang for the buck.

Wine maker dinner
We happened upon a wine maker dinner event, with Bonny Doon wines paired with 5 courses. Innovative food choices, artistically presented, and the winers were superb. The highlight of the evening was a personal visit to our table from winemaker Randall Grahm. I hope you'll have more such events!

Our new favorite!
This is our second time at Palo Alto Grill. We love it! Everything is top notch! Beautiful bar with 2 tvs (no sound) with several tables in the bar area. The dining room is separated from the bar, if you don't want to see the tvs.
We love the Salmon Poke for an appetizer ( huge portion!). The steaks were cooked to perfection and served with 3 different salts to try sprinkling on top, fun and delicious! The pretzel bread is great with a mustard spread. Avocado corn dogs are unique and delicious.
Bruce, the owner is very warm and inviting. The chef came out and asked how our meal was and also made a unique substitution for me. Many chefs of his caliber are too uppity and get offended if you want some thing slightly different, not this one!!

Finally Steak in Downtown PA
The Palo Alto Grill finally provides quality food with a relaxed atmosphere that is rare to find in downtown PA. There are lots and lots of marginal food places, but few high quality. Our food was unusually prepared, great tasting and even had some fun surprises, like the frozen ice cream cube.....I will definately go back.....especially now that they have their liquor license....Hooray!

Add this to your list of favorites
I have been to the Palo Alto Grill before, but it gets better each time! We enjoyed the entertainment of an Italian Baritone singer. He has a great voice and the music just added to the environment to create a perfect dining experience. The service is always spot on and the menu remarkable. Can't wait to visit on Friday or Sat and enjoy the jazz group!
