delicious antipasti and pizza
Delicious selection of antipasti in generous portions- cold calamari in citrus was a refreshing surprise, the grilled asparagus could have used a bit more generous shaving of cheese. Pizza was adequately sized to share and the potato and taleggio pizza very yummy with a wonderfully thin yet chewy crust. Noise level for a Sunday evening was rather loud and echoing in the hard surfaced room. Decent wine list. Desserts were a real treat - rich butterscotch budino silky and sweet. Will return to try more things!

Everything is delicious
There is just about nothing that I would not eat at alta strada. I am a picky eater, but everything from mushrooms to rabbit - it is all prepared so well that you want to eat it all. It is a place with a great standing menu and unique specials, all worth trying.
6/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
food is very good .Tappas especially, some unique dishes at reasonable prices.
Mostly I have been there as a single and have sat at the bar. You don't seem to notice the noise so much
6/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
VERY NOISY! If you wish to carry on a conversation with your tablemates it's very difficult to hear and be heard. Otherwise, delicious food and recommend it.

We dined in early July, when
We dined in early July, when many of the neighborhood clientele presumably were away on their yachts, etc. Thus, Alta Strada was unusually quiet, with a less frantic atmosphere than we're used to. Even the tables seemed breathingly apart, for once. Regardless, our waiter seemed anxious for us to vacate our table.
Re: food--Excellent pizzas, although other dishes seemed designed for those on 1500 cal. diets. Huge mark-ups on drinks.

We brought our 3-yr old for an early Sunday dinner -- although they don't have an official kid's menu, they were very happy to offer us a number of kid-friendly options, including pasta and pizza made to her preferences (she ended up getting a delicious version of mac-n-cheese). She had a great time & so did we.

Lovely Neighborhood Restaurant
Fabulous bread, great wine, wonderful food, gracious helpful server - we had terrific meal!

Always a great experience
Our family loves Altastrada. We live within walking distance and go there for all occasions- date night, girls night out, and family (with young kids) celebrations. I would not say they cater to kids in any way (no kids meals), but we can always order a pizza for them. The food is always great, though the noise level is often on the louder side. Overall, I love Altastrada.

Good food, well done!
So many great choices that its tough to decide. Fun to start with a couple apps and then have a pasta or entree. Fresh ingredients, carefully prepared. The food never disappoints. Lobster chitara and bolognese were delicious. Eggplant parmesian appetizer was exceptional.

What a Treat!
I had made a reservation for 7:15pm and when we got there on a Saturday night, it must have been the only open table in the restaurant. We were quickly seated and given menus, and given just the right amount of time to check the offerings. Our waiter was always checking in for any questions we would have. There was about 10 different antipasti we could choose from, and they were priced out at different rates depending on quantity chosen. A great idea that allows lots of sharing. These were delicious! We all ordered our choices, and everyone was not disappointed. Three pastas, and for me the Chicken cacciatore which was unlike any I had ever had. Fantastic! The wine suggestion, an Italian Pinot Grigio, excellent. Desserts were lovely.
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was excellent - we had the bass special and it was perfect in every way, from the seasonings to the vegetable accompaniments. Beyond delicious. The wine and drink selections reached (and excelled) the standard of the meal. All in all, a wonderful evening. The only thing holding us back from the 5 star rating was the horrible background music. We were situated under or very near the speakers and it was this head banging or club music that was incongruous to the ambience. We will most certainly go back, but will check our seats for speaker proximity. So, be aware of that aspect and do not let that deter from experiencing a great meal.

This is one of the best places we've been to in quite a while. The antipasti appetizers were excellent and fun to share--I would highly recommend them. The pasta dishes were probably the best we've had. The service was great once it got rolling, but we did have to ask if there were specials and had to wait quite a while after getting water for the waitress to come over (just busy I think). After that though, she was excellent.

We have been going to Alta Strada for many years and it never disappoints. The food is consistently excellent, the servers well trained and attentive without being overbearing. They offer great drinks and a good wine selection (although the wines tend to be expensive). The restaurant is child friendly- there always seem to be families with kids there especially at the earlier dining times.
The only downside is that it tends to be very noisy and can be hard to hold a conversation. Overall a wonderful restaurant - highly recommended.

I dined with my son who lives in Switzerland and eats very nicely there. We ALWAYS revisit Alta Strada when he's here! What's also nice is that they offer Prosecco by the glass when so many retaurants won't.

Excellent Food, perfectly
Excellent Food, perfectly prepared - great service
terrific Wine List .

Lively, organized, well-executed.
Four of us made a reservation for a busy Saturday evening. Our table was ready, but we requested a more quiet vacant table and were moved cheerfully. We had the antipasti selections--good--and the main courses--pork chop, pasta, etc were all very good. Service was fine, particularly given the very busy scene. Deserts were also very good. Approach to wine a bit pretentious: "wine glasses in the back upon request," otherwise out of tumblers. But that's my only complaint. Would return.

Amazing food and service... but...
I'm a big fan of Alta Strada and have nothing but rave reviews for the food, drinks, and service... but my only knock on the experience is that it tends to get a bit loud. If you like an energetic vibe with amazing food, this is the perfect place.

Great italian restaurant
The food was the highlight of the night. Outstanding italian dishes.
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have dined here several times and always enjoy it. The prosciutto with fig crostini is a favorite appetizer. It never disappoints. The wine selection is excellent, and the pasta dishes are all good. I think I have tried just about all of them. Our server was friendly and helpful, without being obnoxious. My only criticism is that the noise level can be too much when the restaurant is full.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
a pleasant dining experience
We met another couple there for dinner during the week. They were doing a brisk business but we were seated immediately. The service was quite good and paced well. Everyone enjoyed their dishes very much. Most pastas are home made and quite delicious. One person had the bluefish special and raved about it--the fish was clearly very fresh. There was adequate parking in Wellesley Center. I would return here.
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Consistently GREAT !!
Many times I've dined at AltaStrada and I continue to return because overall it's a very enjoyable dining experience. I highly recommend it.

Always a good dinner
Went to celebrate my wife's birthday. The food was as good as always.
The service was prompt and very attentive. And the desert (Affagato)
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
a little bit of Italy in Wellesley
If you are looking for great food and service this is the place. The wat staff are knowledgable and helpful. The only slight negative is that it can get quite noisy.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is our fourth visit to Alta Strada over the past couple of years and we've never had a bad meal or experience. It's a little loud (the acoustics are strange) so it's hard to hear everyone in a group but other than that - fabulous.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always happy to dine here - service is always fantastic, and the cuisine so fresh!
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
First of all, if you go to this restaurant and don't have the eggplant, you are missing out!!! All four of us agreed that we could have just ordered this and been perfectly happy. Of course we ordered LOADS more and it was all yummy.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
love freshly made pasta. i had "Tagliatelle alla Bolognese", little salty to my taste and too much ground beef. but overall all, had nice texture and enjoyed every strand leaving ground beef at bottom of plate.
my husband had "Spicy Chitarra with Lobster, Shrimp, Tomato, and Basil". and it was excellent if you like spicy food. but not that spicy.
any choice of "anti pasti table" were great. i could fill up on those.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
The service was fantastic from the servers to the bus staff. McKenzie and Rob are amazing!!! Extremely knowledgeable on the entire meu and wine selections. The quality of the food was exceptional! From the appitizers to the main courses to the desserts.
The wine selection is great. You have to try their house made limoncello. It was fantastic!! In addition, most pastat dishes can be made gluten free. My wife thought her GF pasta dish was the best she's ever had in a restaurant. Can't say enough about Alta Strada. So good......

Fabulous Food -- Crazy Noisy
The food at Alta Strada is outstanding. Started with the corn with bacon -- YUM!. Had the meatballs -- also outstanding. The mushroom lune is the only thing to order off the pasta. Unbelievable mushroom taste -- never have had better. The only downside to the restaurant is the noise level -- it makes it difficult to have a conversation.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
food was excellent and server
food was excellent and server was on top of her game in terms of my food allergies but service was so slow and the meal took an hour too long.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice Aniversary Outing
Taking over the old Figs location, Alta Strata was very busy for a Sunday evening, although the coupons probably helped. Had the lobster and pomodoro pastas, which were both good in both taste and portion size. Tapas appetizers and pizzas looked good and will go back to try them out.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
they seem to specialize on

Good for casual dining

City Loft Feel, Great Food
Altastrada is a gem. It's high ceilings and spare décor give it the feel of a downtown loft owned by your really good cook friend. Service was attentive and prompt on our Sunday lunch visit. Great little appetizers at 3 for $15 provided a nice preview of the main meal enjoyment that awaited us, particularly the beet salad. Veal and spinach agnolotti were perfectly done and full of flavor. The delicious pork sandwich was accompanied by crispy puffy French fries and pickled carrots -- not your usual fries and slaw, for sure. We look forward to our next meal there.
9/21/2013 5:00:00 PM
I never had a bad experience
I never had a bad experience there. The salads are delicious and unusual. My favorite pasta dish is the fedelini and clams. This place is consistently good.
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was good, but ran out!
The food was once again quite good, but sadly they were out too the two main dishes we wanted to have.
9/29/2013 5:00:00 PM
We are Alta Strada fans. It's lovely for a date night or get together with friends. The food, wine and service are all top notch.
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Never a disappointment
The title says it all -- always, always a very nice dining experience
10/6/2013 5:00:00 PM
Exceeded our Expectations
We went for a quick lunch after our "cheese" buying trip and decided to try Alta Strada. We are happy we did!!! Service was quick and responsive. They had a few of my favorite dishes that I have in Italy - their tomato bread soup and afigato and they did not disappoint. My very hard to please husband had the veal and spinach pasta dish and loved it - the sauce was terrific. The bread served with the lunch was worth the calories as well. We will go back( I wish they had one on the North Shore).
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food but too noisy
We all enjoyed the delicious food but felt that it was hard to carry on a conversation. The music kept getting louder as the talking got louder. It is crowded dining and difficult for the waiters to walk around.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pasta dishes are creative, but needed to spend more time cooking. Not a big el dente fan. Service was really good. $260 for four people seemed pretty high for a not so fantastic meal.
Be sure to note there is no bar to sit at while waiting. Although you can order drinks while standing in the corner by the front door.
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Bend over backwards
We arrived early; they accommodated us without fuss. The server came to our table for drink orders immediately. We were told the specials and questions were answered promptly and knowledgeably. Food and drink arrived in a timely manner. For some reason the kitchen was tardy with several cappuccinos we ordered and arrived well after we had eaten dessert. The server came by twice to apologize for the tardiness and the management discounted our bill for both cappuccinos and dessert. We left, no pun intended, with a very good taste in our mouths.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
always a treat when we visit
Excellent food just a walk to campus. Unpretentious, straightforward, delicious Italian food carefully prepared and served. Attentive, quick service. Solid list of by-the-glass Italian wines. The appetizers really shine. Easy for vegetarians to find lots to love. Pricey but worth it for us, since it's a rare treat (about sixty dollars per person without wine).
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
good as far as it goes
needs a choice of soups for lunch, and sandwiches that are not paninis
service was really firsr rate!
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Authentic and delicious
From antipasti to dolci, the menu is intriguing and the dishes live up to its promise. Try the antipasti, which are bounteous and delicious. Two of us shared three--eggplant capponata, farro with sweet pumpkin, and home made fresh ricotta--and they were the highlight of the meal. Roasted tomato soup was hearty, home-made agnolotti filled with spinach and veal were unusual and very tasty, and home made maple pecan gelato was to die for. The service was pleasant, attentive, and professional. I'll definitely go back.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
Will be returning!
Best first dining experience my husband and I have had in a long time. Every dish was excellent, from the appetizer samplers -- to the pastas -- to the dessert. Our server was responsive, friendly, warm.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Been eating here for years. Prices have gone up a bit lately and portions shrunk a bit. Drinks are pricey too- but the food is always fresh and satisfying. Staffers are top notch. Overall - very good!
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Different time, different vibe
The dinner fare at Alta Strada was once again quite good. We ate earlier than we have before (6:00 on a Saturday night) and compared with later in the evening, it had the feel of a family restaurant. Kudos to the maître D' for trying to seat us in as private a place as possible. Service however was not on par with what it has been - a few things were overlooked (perhaps because things were so busy?)
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
We have been going to Alta Strada for many years and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is pleasant, the quality of the food
consistently good and the wait staff is very well trained and knowledgeable.

Another great dinner at alta strata
Consistently good and interesting food. Their pizza is delicious, their pasta outstanding but the best part is their antipasti.
12/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
In the past year, we have dined at Alta Strada 6 to 8 times. We are never disappointed. It is a sure thing. Food is great, their signature Alta Strada cocktail is amazing. Mushroom onion pizza is hard to resist. We always know we will have a excellent meal.
