Modern Mexican, Vibrant Colors
What a great find! We really enjoyed the modern take on Mexican here. The Mahi Mahi was cooked to perfection: moist and flavorful, would definitely order it again. The shrimp entree was also good. Loved the flavor, just wish dish was served hot from the kitchen instead of just warm. Love the spicy salsa served with the chips. Black bean soup was a little salty but had a nice consistency. The margaritas are freshly made; no junky sour-mix here. The decor is vibrant and lively. Beautiful Mexican artwork decorates the lengthy walls. The space has an industrial feel but the colorful paintings warms it up. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely be back and looking forward to the outdoor space they plan to open soon.

a great surprise
Although it was hard to get to, we missed our reservation time by 25 minutes. They were great at receiving us. From the time we sat down till we fininished the service was great. They explained all the questions we had with sincere patience. I reccommend Andrea as a waiter, I swear he could have passed for a owner. The food was all good. Definenetly try the margarita, ( really small, but WOW it was both tasty and packed a punch. ) Don't get fooled by its size. We will be going back as often as we can. A great find east of Michigan Ave.

simply said....Very few restaurants keep you talking about them long after you leave. Mezcalina did just that....
Margaritas are exceptional. Food incredible.

Authentic Mexican food
Mezcalina is one of those gems that you find once in a while. Authentic food from southern Mexico, a well stocked tequila bar and great service at affordable prices. As Mexican nationals we enjoy every time we find a restaurant with the original flavors of the regional Mexican cuisine in an upscale preparation. You will not find fajitas or burritos, leave that for the fast food joints and come ready to experience true Mexican food.

Mezcalina is such a beautiful restaurant!!! From the paintings on the walls, to the bar setup, carved chairs, colorful tabletops, and unique decorations. I've been here for brunch and a quick lunch and both were delicious. Brunch options leave more to be desired, but the Desayuno Del Patron item is a perfect option to share between 2 people - has a little bit of everything (very flavorful chilaquiles!). Delicious Mexican hot chocolate. 3 salsas served with lunch/dinner are also very distinct and flavorful.

Great taste of Mexico

Dance for your dinner
We were going to the Harris for Ballet Chicago and took a chance on Mezcalina! It turned out to be a wonderful find that we look forward to visiting again. The entrees we enjoyed were duck and lamb and we had freshly made guacamole with delicious blue and yellow corn chips as an appetizer. Our mojito and maragarita were perfect. Bravo

Upscale Mexican , without the Frontera Grill wait.

Really hard to find, but it is a delightful little spot. Very nice menu and wine list. Small and charming. Delicious food and helpful servers.

Gourmet Mexican Food
The Chefs at Mezcalina have created a supreme menu of high class dishes from Oaxaca, Mexico. Can't find a comparable restaurant in the City. Worth every bite of their mole, octopus, and chiles en nogada. They have an impressive Mezcal an Tequila bar. The drinks are very original and complement the food very nicely. Highly recommend it.

a little hidden but worth the find
This place can give Fronterra Grill a run for its money. Well worth the visit.

Great food, great food & great service! Hidden gem. Martin is fantastic server. Frontera look out.

Hidden gem has it almost perfect
Although not very easy to find, Mezcalina is a small, cool restaurant with not-your-usual Mexican food. The atmosphere is hip, with lots of art, including the tables and chairs. The food is very good, the bar makes excellent Margaritas. The only drawback is the service. It has improved since the first time we went but it is still spotty. As usual, this is a management issue. There is no reason why, when the restaurant is not close to full, one has to get up to get the server to bring you your check. All in all, it is worth making the trek to the LakeShore East Park (behind the new Aqua building) to try out this small gem of a restaurant.

Use these directions!!!
Take Randolph (street level) and turn north on Field Street. When you get to the end of the street, go right. Drive around the cul-de-sac, and you'll see it!

This restaurant is in a little oasis in the middle of the city. It is in a lovely spot, although slightly tricky to find the first time around. We had dinner there and came back the next day to enjoy lunch on the patio. The food and service were great.

Best Mexican food in the states
I moved to Chicago one year ago after 24 years in Austin, Texas. I thought that I was going to miss good Mexican food. Mezcalina serves the best Mexican food that I have had in this country. I love this place. The service is also excellent and the huge paintings on the walls are wonderful. They now have a fun outside area that looks out at Lakeshore East park. I live nearby and I often take guests to Mezcalina.

Mezcalina is authentic!
Mezcalina is high quality authentic Mexican cuisine served in a lively, artistic, and modern space. The service at lunch was superb and the owner was available and willing to talk about the restaurant. We looked at the dinner menu and it looks even more amazing than lunch.
Authentic moles and Oaxacan cuisine are on the menu as are interesting ceviches and other goodies. Didn't have dessert but no doubt it is as good as the rest of the meal.

creative mexican food! very high end cuisine. great margaritas! not cheap, but will definitely go back!

Great Tequila Bar
Excellent tequila and mescal menus!!!
I really enjoyed the bartenders, Jose was very knowledgeable and Michael made a great mojito.
The food was good, but not great.
The venue was 'hip' with cool ART, good music and a lively scene.
I went back the next night with friends, so that tell's you my VOTE!

Could do Better
Great place but needs to get their act together . The staff is very nice but poorly trained. Also, need to advertise and get the word out.

Good food, good drinks!!
This was a fairly last minute booking and it was a very pleasant surprise. We had the sample starter which gave us the best of everything and was a good size. Our mains were great sized portions and once again very nicely done.
The decor was funky with a nice vibrant atmosphere, it would be a great place to come with a group of friends. The cocktails were great too!!!

Great food and atmosphere
Great menu, everything we had was excellent (special mentions go to the mole duck and the adobo lamb). Very reasonable prices for high quality. Very personable, caring service. The only reason for not giving a fifth star is the location. Benton place is not exactly your vibrant dining scene and no-one is going to just stumble upon this place. However, well worth the effort, and an opportunity to walk around a relatively unknown part of town.

need to work on a few things
good food - not as amazing as others seem to think. salsas were excellent although a bit too salty. had the steamed lamb, which was falling off the bone and amazing. friend had stuffed hoblano pepper, which was less good - sauce and stuffing way too sweet. excellent ambience outside, with easy chairs and a couple of high tables. music inside was too loud. service - really nice folks, but need basic training on attentiveness - waited half an hour and had to get up and ask someone to take our order. restaurant was half empty, so there really is no excuse. i'd come back.

Second time back. Great decor
Second time back. Great decor and service. Great tequilas which are brought in from Mexico. Certainly one of my favorite Mexican choices downtown.

We have passed by this restaurant
We have passed by this restaurant many times on walks. We love the decor and our meal of red snapper was very delicious. Will try them next time for lunch as we had more food than we needed with chips, guacamole dip and more chips. Nice place.

The food has a great home-made
The food has a great home-made taste. I would really recommended, just keep in mind that the music is latina and a little loud

Authentic Oaxacan cuisine
Artfully prepared dishes that originated in Oaxaca, with an updated spin on ingredients and presentation. Outstanding flavors
throughout the menu. Lovely art on the walls but the interior space leaves a great deal to be desired.

Unique upscale Mexican
I have been to Mezcalina twice and enjoyed both times but it is not your typical Mexican restaurant. The dishes are unique and, though somewhat expensive in my opinion, they certainly give you enough to eat. My favorite dish so far is the octopus - it is amazing. My wife thought the lamb too spicy, but I enjoyed it. If you go you will not be disappointed.
