Night at Salty Sow
Great food that was innovative, tasty and reasonably priced!

Fun, fresh. What N Scottsdale needs
Thoroughly enjoyed the food. The crispy Brussels were amazing, my pork belly taco yum, fried chicken the showcase flavor item, and the bananas fosters beignet delightful. Totally go back and eat three dishes of the green beans and chicken for happy hour.

This restaurant has had good reviews and they deserve it. Besides the pork they have a nice sangria and wonderful fish!

We booked a last minute reservation at the Salty Sow for the Fourth of July. Had a group of 6, wide range of ages. Everyone loved everything especially the brussel sprout appetizer and the French Beignets! Can't wait to go back!

This is a great place to take
This is a great place to take friends. The food is fantastic and the server helped with the food choices. I have been here before and I am working my way down the menu. Some of the choices are different and the prices are reasonable.

Very different menu - the fries were a disappointment could have been crispier - but everything else was delicious - chicken thighs wonderful, must try the deviled eggs they were a highlight - pork belly wonderful and chocolate dessert we devoured - would highly recommend

First time visitor. The ambience
First time visitor. The ambience was upbeat and different in a positive way. The food was very good and we will come back again soon. The waitress didn't think through the side dishes and after recommending the "duck fat fries" and other items as appetizers, she didn't tell us that some of the entrees we ordered also came with even more fries than we could possibly consume in one sitting. A little knowledge of the menu by her would have helped here. She apologized and told us that there is little option for substitution.

Will be going back soon!
Went with 4 people and we all got something different. Two of us could not decide, but were aided by a very helpfull server. Enjoyed appetizers as well as specials for the evening. Food arrived timely, hot and delicious . Serving size is just right.

Our new neighborhood favorite
We like the idea of having a place that is close and casual, yet with an innovative menu. The favorite of the table was the charcuterie board: great selections and well-executed. This is our second trip, and we have not had an entree that has disappointed. For example, the grouper with a celery root gratin is not something we have run across elsewhere.

Great addition to the neighborhood
Glad to see the Salty Sow in this neighborhood dominated by chains. We loved almost everything (braised pork shoulder, braised beef shoulder, beet salad and desserts) but were a bit underwhelmed by the blood orange margarita. Aside from a faint pink blush, it tasted like a plain big machine-made margarita a'la Z'tejas. Considering the creativity we found elsewhere on the menu, we were expecting more pizazz. I guess we will just have to go again to try something else!

Best meal I've had in Phoenix
Having moved here from Portland OR this past year, I haven't found the same kind of foodie scene here. I now stand corrected! Went with a party of 4 - each of us ordered different cocktails and entrees and tasted from each. Everything that came out of this kitchen and bar was delicious. Wonderful charcuterie plate to start, well crafted cocktails, perfectly sized and balanced entrees. No question this is the best meal I've had since moving to Phoenix - will be back again soon!

Imaginative Menue Items
They have a lot of creative dishes on their menu that you don't see in other restaurants. There is an abundance of pork on the menu, but one does just fine finding good items that are not made from the pig. We ordered an appetizer of bay scallops that were great and broiled halibut with leaks and Italian broccoli that was unusually good. This place is in our Top Ten.

A great find!
Generally, I don't get too excited about a restaurant, but I have to tell you, we had a great experience. From the time we walked through the door to time we left with a smile on our face we were treated like old friends. Tony, our waiter, was attentive and helpful and the food was incredible!
We will be returning to the Salty Sow. I highly recommend it!

Food was very good. We didn't know what to expect and were very satisfied.

Tried SS about 3 months back and found it to be excellent. Went again with some friends and had an equally excellent experience. Food and Drinks were great. This restaurant will be added to the monthly rotation!

Salty Sow Gathering
We were a party of 7. 4 of us had the 4 course dinner and 3 ordered from the menu. All of us loved everything we ordered.
Loved the Blood Orange Frozen Margarita too. A definite come back to place.
7/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Definitely worth a try.
The food was good. We started with the charcuterie platter, which had chicken liver mousse that my BF loved and pastrami salmon that I enjoyed. The pate` and cheese was average. We also had Boudin fritters that were quite good. I had the Blackened Redfish and it was Awesome! Our server was very helpful
and friendly. However, the restaurant was freezing! Im not one of those whiney people who is cold wherever I go, my BF agreed it was too cold. Bring a sweater.

What a great find! Inventive,
What a great find! Inventive, tasty menu choices, terrific staff. The $25 four course tasting menu was such a treat. And, unusual combinations such as a brussel sprouts Caesar salad and a lamb burger topped with olive tapenade became an instant favorite choice. We will definitely return for more food exploration!

Love this place!!!!
All of the employees are very helpful. They walk by your table, pick up the empty plates or just fill your water glass. It seems like they all work together and enjoy it. Thanks for hiring a great group of people
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was very good. Very ecclectic menu. Very well priced. For me, noise level was a bit too high and cocktails on the sweet side. Overall it was a great experience!

I promised our server, Tony,
I promised our server, Tony, that I'd write another review after another exceptionally delicious meal at Salty Sow last night.
Sometimes a great first impression is hard to follow up - not so for the folks at Salty Sow. We ordered the charcuterie plate again - very generous portions and a great deal for the price. I could go on and on in detail about our meal but suffice it to say that every course was spectacular, every cocktail was delicious and the service was, again, spot on. If you haven't had the bananas foster beignets - what are you waiting for?! GO!
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great service. Great food.
I have been wanting to try this place for a while now. The menu is a little different and I have been wanting to explore there menu. From when we were greeted at the door to our exit everyone was friendly and nice. The staff explained every item we ordered and whats there favorite. The food was fantastic. I will be back!
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
My boyfriend and I decided to check this place out since we drive past it so much. It is incredible. He is hooked on the duck fat friends and the entrees are incredible. THE one thing that you HAVE to try is the bananas foster for dessert. It was earth shattering good... apparently I was grinning like the Cheshire cat when we started eating it
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
great food for carnivores
Bone marrow! Pork belly! Duck fat fries. It was all so delicious and the service was attentive and prompt. Will go back again when we are in Phoenix.

GREAT FOOD GREAT ATMOSPHERE
Their menu is fun! The atmosphere is comfortable. The food is excellent. I can see this place as one of my regulars. Good thing the chef continues to add amazing dishes to the menu.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
My selection from the menu was not what I expected.
I ordered a chicken dish with fried mash potatoes.
The chicken was very tough, and full of grisle, I couldn't
even cut it, plus it was very fatty.
I did explain that to the waiter and manager, theprice of the
dinner was removed from my bill.
I did not expect that, but certainly appreciated it.

Great place to dine with friends
Tried Salty Sow for dinner with a few friends. There is a nice choice of tables, booths and bar depending on your mood. The food is great (really enjoyed the charcuterie and cheese board, slow cooked beef shoulder and green chili grits). Well worth a try!

Great Food and Cocktails
In my first visit to Salty Sow, I really enjoyed the specialty cocktails, tasty food, cool atmosphere and knowledgeable service. French dip is amazing. My only complaint was the noise level. I will be back and I look forward to trying happy hour.

Just shy of really, really good!
Fried chicken and tacos consistently good and a great value at happy hour. The restaurant week menu was less satisfying than a couple of the summer three course specials we've enjoyed. Entrees are ambitious and not yet uniformly exceptional. The deserts are always great and can be counted on to be exceptional. Salads for the "week" were tasty but quite small. Overall all this was our fourth time (second time bringing guests) and perhaps because it was restaurant week it was good but not great as it was in previous visits.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went with 3 other friends
Went with 3 other friends for Restaurant Week. Great options on their special menu. Our waiter seemed antsy to get our order in and seemed to hover a little bit - very distracting. 1st course comes and the waiter introduces us to a young lady that will be taking over for him, as he needs to leave to go to another job. I found it odd that he would state that as the reason. Anyway... main course comes and one of the dishes was completely wrong - friend ordered scallops and a veggie plate was brought. So, the new waitress needs to deal with the issue, and she handled it perfectly! Kitchen fired up correct order. Food was great, all around really good. Service was little off, but they pulled it together. I will certainly be back!

Great food! Great service!
We dined at Salty Sow for the first time on Monday night. The atmosphere was fun and hip, nice but still casual. The service was awesome - she walked us through both the drink menu and the food. She was very knowledgable and on top of everything. The fried tomato and guacamole appetizer was amazing. The pork shoulder was very good. I wouldn't recommend the deviled egg unless you're a huge truffle fan - very strong taste. The bananas foster dessert is sinful. Great time had by all!

For every occasion
I have been to Salty Sow twice before and I have never been disappointed. I was afraid because it was restaurant week that it might be more than they could handle, but they were prepared. I have a group of friends that try to get together once a month, and I had recommended SS to them. Everyone loved the food. We had the deviled eggs and eggplant fries for appetizers. Both were just different enough, but full of flavor and tastiness. I especially loved the eggs. The service was just right. It's always annoying when you go to a good restaurant and it seems as soon as you are in a conversation they interrupt. Everyone loved their entrees and I even had enough for leftovers for lunch!!

Excellent evening outdoors
While the restaurant inside was quite loud, we were seated in a small corner in the patio that was amazingly quiet considering the rest of the place. Since we went during the evening in September, the weather was just perfect to be outdoors. The food was amazing, with the duck fat fries and crispy brussels being our favorite appetizers. The happy hour menu was fantastic. For two people we spent around $50 thanks to happy hour, which is amazing for the quality of the food. I love french and french-inspired cuisine and haven't had a good place to go to since Sophie's closed. Now I do and I will definitely be back!
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
my friend and I had the fried green tomatoes with guacamole--GREAT--Pork stew with polenta also delicious and hearty---waiter was wonderful courteous, helpful and quick to respond!!!!! 4 stars
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything about our meal here was excellent. The ragout with crispy brussel sprout leaves (who knew?) was out of this world. Very eclectic menu.

1st time at the Salty Sow. Will return often! Food and service were both excellent! Wine list very good!
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
We decided to try the Salty Sow. We were greeted warmly & taken to our table. The atmosphere was delightfully airy, casual & fun. Our server, Jinelle, was very helpful in describing the happy hour & dinner menus. We started off with the deviled eggs which were incredible & then we had the triple duck fries- amazing - & my husband is hard to please. We also enjoyed the sangria which was so refreshing! For dinner I had the crisp chicken thighs with fried smashed potatoes & neck bone gravy. My husband had the slow cooked beef shoulder with mashed potatoes & root vegetables-awesome! The portions were just right. For dessert we shared the Butterscotch Boudini with salted caramel & creme fraiche; it was to die for! We will definitely be back!

interesting but not too weird menu
This Chef inspired restaurant is always busy as it was the Saturday night our group of five dined. We had reservations, were seated immediately and received superior service: never having to ask for water refills, or "another round" of drinks. The menu is not your typical American grub buts its not so over the top that you're left shaking your head and rolling your eyes. Our group had a good selection of entrees and our food was served promptly and was the right temperature. Everything tasted great. There were several items on the menu I want to go back and try. The atmosphere is very comfortable, not stuffy but rather lively and cheerful. We will definitely go back again.

I have been meaning to come here for a while and wish I had sooner. I had the french dip and it was amazing. I tried the lamb burger, which was also delicious, and the pork chop was as well. The pork chop was one of the best I've ever had along with the french dip. We had the truffled deviled eggs for an app and they were delicious. I want to try everything on the menu. The environment was very pleasant and the staff was very courteous, especially with our food allergy, going to great lengths to accommodate us. They serve local beers which is pretty cool, although I did not partake in one. Seating is very comfortable both inside and out. I highly recommend this place. Dinner ranges from ~$14-$29, so you have some options.

Good food, steep prices
This was my first visit to the Salty Sow, we live around the corner and heard good things from some friends. The place looks nice on the inside, not too crowded. The noise was a little loud but it was on a Friday at the end of happy hour so it may have contributed but I wouldn't recommend this time if you are on a date and want to avoid having to shout at each other. The menu is limited but I think even the pickiest of eaters will find something. The portions wasn't too much food but just short of enough (the sides are a little on the small size). The desserts were tasty. The prices were a little steep for the food and portions so we don't plan on frequenting this establishment often but maybe during happy hour or special occasions.

Excellent customer service
This was our first adventure at the Salty Sow. We found the menu had a wide range of interesting choices. Not much ho hum on this menu! We did have a small glitch at this restaurant with one of our three entrees not arriving with the others. The manager showed up immediately to apologize for the delay and tell us the chef would like to buy dessert to make up for the delay. This was not the first time in our dining experiences that we have had the same offer for a late entree. The entree arrived shortly afterwards and was terrific. What did surprise us was the offer of a free dessert was for the whole table not just the diner witrh the late entree. The chocolate truffle cake should not be missed!

Future Walmart Cafe?
The unique menu here is what first attracted us, but it appears now that they are dumbing down the menu. Gone is one of our favorites the Salmon Rilette. Also, the Pastrami Salmon no has no seasoning now, the "Pastrami" has been removed from the description. They should call it the "Bland Salmon". Our server told us that they have adjusted their menu to satisfy the customer wants. Really? Are you catering to the Walmart crowd? You built a restaurant in the parking lot of Walmart, so if that was your target audience, then just have fried greasy food. If you can't be true to your identity, then close the doors. You can't have a place that will satisfy both foodies and the average chain-goer patron.
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
Food included crispy brussel sprouts and goat cheese fritters for apps and the beef shoulder and bacon & eggs for our main course. Everything was fantastic but the goat cheese fritters and beef shoulder definitely stood out. Excellent flavors, cooked to perfection, and a nice presentation. The wine list is great - bottle prices are extremely reasonable and the selection included quite a few great bottles from lesser known wine makers. Service was very attentive and friendly. I'm happy to have found the Salty Sow and I will definitely be back!

We Need to Return
Eclectic menu tilting toward comfort. And we were comfortable. "Wife who must be obeyed" (WWMBO) enjoyed her "bacon" (pork belly) and eggs with cheese grits. The beef shoulder I ordered was beefy and fork tender, accompanied with "al dente" root vegetables and smooth mashed potatoes and gravy. Our "first night at the restaurant as a server" wait person enhanced our experience. One could tell customer service is emphasized, for we were visited for brief conversation (but not overly so) by other wait staff personnel. Our reservation was for 5:30 and although we were early we were promptly seated to take advantage of the $5 happy hour wine offerings. WWMBO and I decided a return is a must to try some of the varied and interesting sides.

A great local dining destination
There are so many flavorful selections to choose from and server recommendations actually live up to their sales pitch. Enjoy a signature cocktail or wine selection. The menu is thoughtfully composed and offers honest fare for even the most adventurous dining expedition.

Love the unusual items on the menu, and like that the menu changes often. Great drinks too.

Yummy, but very loud!
This was our second visit and it was enjoyable .... But we are thinking the menu has changed. Seems like they have made it more mainstream, which could be good or bad depending on your tastes. This restaurant is VERY loud; they should do away with the background music. Everyone is just shouting over it. Really detracts from the great food.
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
Too many options to try in one visit. We will be back many times.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good Food, Good Price, Inconsistent
I have been here several times and really love the food and the menu. My only complaint would be for them to be more consistent. Every time we visit we have to order something new because menu items we enjoyed keep getting removed. No more marrow bones, no more fritters, no more duck fat fries with the sandwiches.
