Don't be fooled by this tiny
Don't be fooled by this tiny restaurant, since they make up on service and quality.
My wife and I had the opportunity to try it after finding some great reviews on Yelp.
The set up reminds me of a sushi bar.
There were just too many items to mention but the few stand outs were: fois gras. Seasonal salad. Scallops.

I don't know how I missed
I don't know how I missed this place until now but I intend to make up for lost time. The food is wonderful, the ambiance is delightful and the experience is unique. Everyone sits around where the chefs cook - sushi bar style- and watch every plate as it's prepared.
The food is pan -European- some plates leaning towards Italy, others to France or Spain. And they're all small plates which allows for lots of tasting. My husband and I tasted 7 between the 2 of us and enjoyed them all. The pork belly and the brussel sprouts were my favorites. I highly recommend Degustation for groups of up to 4.

I am somewhat jaded when it comes to dining out so I am rarely blown away anymore. I was blown away at degustation. I went there by myself and was lucky enough to be seated in front of the chef who did the final construction of the dish. The food was stellar both in its presentation and its appeal. They were very generous with the wine pours. I have already reserved again.

I did the tasting menu with my husband for his birthday. The wine list is extensive but does not get lost. Each meal that came out was well executed. I am still thinking about the Spinach Pound cake...omg so good! Never mind the price because the quality of the food is outstanding!

One of the best meals of my life
Wow! There is so much love of food happening in this small restaurant. Every dish we ordered was perfectly executed and arrived seconds after completion. Three chefs, one head and two sous, perform their art before your eyes, feverishly turning out dish after dish of heaven. This is a place for foodies. Don't go with a group of ten and expect to have quiet conversation over dinner. You'll want to sit in rapt attention appreciating the power of simple presentation done right. If you love food you owe it to yourself to make a reservation today,

An upscale gem for the area
I've dined here several times and have always loved the food. This is one of NY's best kept secrets! Well it's not really a secret, but reservations are a must for this small place. I always go with the chef's tasting menu. It is different from ordering a la carte and if you really want to experience the food, this is the best way to go.

A chance to learn
Sitting right in front of the chefs made for a wonderful experience. Not only was the food outstanding, it was fun to watch the chefs at work and to chat with them, when time permitted. We loved eating at this restaurant! All the staff gave great attention to detail and made our visit very memorable. Next time I would like to try the tasting menu.

Close to perfect
The fact is that there is a proliferation of restaurants where each dish has eleven ingredients and their combination is unexpected. Ordinarily, we avoid this kind of restaurant like the plague. Except when this complex juggling act is done PERFECTLY. As it was at Degustation. We'll need more visits to know whether the quality keeps up and whether there continues to be a variety of new innovation. But we ordered virtually every dish on the (short) menu (NOT actually the "Degustation" menu), and, with a few minor quibbles each dish was distinct, witty, unexpected, and--rarest of all--bursting with real flavor.

Well, we finally made it to Degustation after almost going several times previously. We were not disappointed. I MAY have had better food once or twice, and perhaps one better overall "dining experience." But I have never smiled during a meal as much as we did that night. There was something surprising, or well-blended, or perfectly cooked, or a combination of those, in each course. And the recommended wines (which included white, which we almost never drink) were perfect pairings for the dishes. We'll be back.

Outstanding food! Creatively prepared and plated small dishes make this a place we will definitely return to. A small space, yet it doesn't feel cramped. The restaurant is arranged in a sushi style bar so you see your meal being prepared. This was a feast for the eyes and the pallet!

This tiny restaurant is superb way beyond its size. The three-sided bar surrounding the open kitchen gives the diner a chance to watch the chef in action and adds to the sensory pleasures of fabulous food artfully presented. The small plates are meant to be shared and share you should. Many offerings were the best I've ever had, including the risotto, char and Brussels sprouts.

Amazing tasting menu
My wife and I came for dinner and chose the tasting menu. All the dishes were delicious and carefully prepared. The restaurant is like a long bar around the kitchen. You can see the chefs working. It is very entertaining.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary. It was fabulous! Intimate setting, and fun to watch the chefs preparing the food. I would not recommend for groups, since you are all seated side-by-side around the kitchen. The tasting menu was weighted a bit toward seafood, I think I may have preferred to have additional meat or poultry swapped in for one of the fish dishes. But the food was fantastic and the service outstanding. Definitely recommend this for a special night out.

We enjoyed wonderful little tastes, each served with a complementing glass of wine or aperitif, each serving prepared in front of us as we sat around the kitchen like a bar, each course described and presented to us. One of our party sadly didn't like seafood, so the restaurant accommodated her with other similar dishes. We enjoyed the cozy (the restaurant can only have about 27 guests at one time) yet open atmosphere. Lots of laughter and fun together.

I loved everything about it
It isn't often that one gets to eat fabulous food in a place that isn't "full of itself" or is too fancy for us mortals.
I loved everything about it: food, service, music, ambiance and the great variety of wines. It is geared for couples because the seats are at the counter where you can see the food prepared. I highly recommend it for a special night.

Took my boyfriend here... The environment was perfect because it's intimate. Restaurant only seats people around the kitchen preparation, so there might be 20 seats max. The intimate environment allows for amazing conversation, and the preparation in front of you always keep things interesting. Not to mention the food is amazing! Favorite dishes were actually the vegetable dishes... Heirloom Tomatoes and the Brussel Sprouts. Loved.

Very unique experience
We really enjoyed the 7 course tasting menu. All if the dishes were very interesting and unique. It was a lot of fun watching the food be it together right in front of us. When they found out that it was our anniversary, they gave us a free dessert. We had a really great time ( however it was quite pricy).

Had the tasting menu - each course was good to very good plus, and one (hamachi crude) was outstanding. Overall, though, the menu didn't integrate together. Also, most of the plates were intensely flavored, which became a bit overwhelming as the meal progressed.

Chefs Table Delight
My wife and I went for our anniversary and the experience was befitting of the special occasion. The dining room is small and the only seating is a chefs table counter that wraps around an intimate, open kitchen. You are right in the theatrics of the kitchen and close enough to the chefs to have a conversation about the menu as they plate with precision (sit towards the front of the house). There is an $80 tasting menu or a la carte, mid-course sized plates that average around $17 each. There is no overlap between the tasting and a la carte menus. We ordered from menu and were not disappointed - the stars were the Arctic Char and the Colorado Lamb. Degustation might not get the hype of Brooklyn Fare or Momofuko Chefs Table - but it should.

Lovely spot. Very nice concept (small plates, small room, everyone sits at the "bar" facing the open, calm kitchen, uncomplicated menu, well-prepared food). We had a 10:30 p.m. reservation on a Saturday night and the restaurant was still alive and going strong. The service was very gracious. The food was excellent, and we liked that the menu was simple and creative, and did not try too hard, but at the same time was not in the least bit ordinary. The crudo seafood was our favorite.

In all the thousands of restaurants there are in the city this one is still a favorite of mine. Love the small environment and a tasting menu for $80 is a steal. Heavily seafood based, bit still excellent this restaurant gives you entertainment and feeds you as you watch the chefs prepare your menu items. I have been there on dates, specials, with clients, and even by myself. Every time I have gone I have had a great time. Highly recommend this restaurant and as something off the beaten path. Enjoy!

Tried out 7 course tasting menu.
1st dish: Oyster from BC Canada.
2nd dish: Hamachi (yellow tail) with caviar and shiso (really?). Unfortunately they are mismatch.
3rd dish: Poached egg, bacon on bread.
4th dish: Prawn with dill, capers and raisin. Yum!
5th dish: Scallop on saffron risotto with clam. Very tasty. A bit of sand was left in clam unfortunately.
6th dish: A piece of teppan-yaki style grilled steak. Not much to say. Yum! Especially the source.
7th dish: Cheese, honey, roasted walnut & apple.
8th dish: Lemon, blueberry with a mint leaf. Taste of stainless steel stands out because of acidity.
9th dish: French toast with smoked maple syrup. Incredible!!
Kitchen counter table only. Reminds me very nice teppan-yaki steakhouse s in Japan.

Different and Very Good
Degustation is a very simple, unpretentious restaurant. You will seat at a counter that surrounds three sides of the kitchen, thus the chefs will prepare the different dishes right in front of you. The menu consists of various plates that you can match as you may prefer. All that I tried were excellent, including the foie gras and the ricotta stuffed pasta. Highly recommended for an excellent and different eating experience.

perfect name for the restaurant
I loved the idea of sitting at the "bar" and watching the chefs work on our food - it added a great deal of pleasure to eating it. Tasting menu was well selected with ventures from raw fish with caviar to a much simpler but very delicious egg benedict. A couple of additions to the 7 course dinner including an oyster made the experience very personable. It is definitely a place for two, but a place not to be missed when exploring New York.

Dinner and a show
We love the concept of the long table where you can see the team cooking and preparing little works of art for you to savor. This was our second visit and it was great. The chef Nick prepared delicious food and presented it beautifully. We had a fantastic dinner experience and want to repeat it again soon.

I have not had many tacos, and I have to say this is great, creative small dishes. Not sure about the big chunk of fish ceviches, but everything else are delicious. I wish there are more dishes to choose, so I'd like to come back again.

good food, mediocre service
Our wine was consistently poured after the paired course had arrived. This is really basic, but _always_ pour the wine before its food course arrives. That allows the wine to breathe, especially when it's poured directly from the bottle as you do. It clears the palate between courses. It provides a topic of conversation among the guests, and a time to become familiar with the wine on its own. And it ensures that the pairing is available when the course is at its freshest.
We loved the food, the pairings themselves were quite good, and one pairing was spectacular. But we left feeling quite disappointed, as though the restaurant was understaffed, though there were many seats available.

The food was excellent, the enviroment perfect. They make you feel confortable since the first minute you arrive, the should have the michelin for sure. It is a great expirkence to live. Its really small but ita compensated withthe great taste.
