The service was friendly and accommodating and the food was scrumptious. There are many gluten free items on the menu to choose from. The atmosphere is casual and fun. We will most definitely be returning with friends and family.

I CANNOT RECOMMEND MARA'S ENOUGH.
We went on a Tuesday night (so keep that in mind when I said it was quiet and good for groups- I wouldn't know if that's the same for a Friday or Saturday night) with a group of six. The food was outrageous- I don't remember if it was a special or a normal menu's appetizer but I highly recommend their seafood bread. It was absolutely delicious. Crawfish, cheese, spices... All baked into a bread. We had a wonderful time and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We will most certainly be back!!

It is great but pass on the ribs. I had them twice and they just aren't good. To fatty sides are great. I will be back

If you like Cajun, this is the only place to go on Long Island. Food is incredible. Go for the food, not so much for the atmosphere. Has live music sometimes.

Consistently Good to Excellent
We have come for dinner on a few Saturday nights since I found out they moved from Manhattan. Their food has always been very good to excellent and have been packed on every Saturday we've gone. I recommend making a reservation which was honored and available when we arrived.
The wait staff is extremely knowledgable of the numerous daily specials for the day in addition to their vast menu.
My only compliant, rather wish, is that the restaurant was less noisy. If you are looking for a quiet romantic night don't plan to come on a Saturday night. If you are looking for a festive atmosphere with a lively crowd enjoying themselves with a husband and wife team as your hosts who really care about their customer base then come to Mara's Homem

Good Place to eat
The BBQ was good, definately on the better side of what I've ever had in the Northern states. The microbrew beers were good, and the waitress was both very helpful and knowledgeable, plus she was cute!
Servings are large, good spices etc...
Overall you should give it a try.

great cajun cuisine
This place is not big, but seating is comfortable, service is very good, plenty of parking space, good selection of beers, wine & whisky. If you like cajun food, this is the place, gator bites, catfish, jambalaya -- all great. Don't forget the desserts, the strawberry almond pie was excellent.

Beer bourbon & BBQ
Great food selections, terrific bourbon selections, a bit noises but who cares. Very helpful staff, and an eye dropper to add just the right amount of water to the bourbon when needed.

Great food with a NOLA flair
Came on a Friday 9:30. Hopping place with a band playing. Not very big and not fancifully decor-ed, but the food and atmosphere was great. I had the 3 lb crawfish for starters and the bbq shrimp for main course. If you have not had New Orleans style bbq shrimp and do not plan a trip south, you must try it at Mara's. Do not know whu they actually call it BBQ, but it is more of a shrimp boiled in a delicious dark peppery sauce. They also have a great selections of whiskeys. Even a good numbers of rye. If you are like me and like your Manhattans made the traditional way with a good Rye Whiskey you will be very pleased with the selection here.

Don't pass it by
I first went to Mara's when it was a small, one room restaurant in NYC with a handful of tables. I loved the food and the service from the beginning. Once it moved to Syosset I have tried to get there at least once every other month. The food is fantastic. Last time I was there I was with three other people, we had four separate dishes and everyone was raving the entire time. If you are a bourbon fan, the bourbon list is the best you will find on Long Island, and perhaps in NYC as well. The place is run by a family and they make you feel like family.

Unique Food / Great Bar Service
This place is fun, the food is delicious and the bar service very interesting. The food is freshly prepared and deliciously seasoned. The food can be a bit on the spicy side; this is definitely influenced by Mara's New Orleans roots. The BBQ meats are excellent also. If you like Oysters, order them charbroiled if they are on the menu.
A family run place where the service is very friendly. The specials are always some new variation on whatever fresh shell fish they have. The drinks are strong and varied.
Get the stuffed crawfish bread - you'll love it!

Great southern food
Everything from this former NYC spot is fantastic. Personal favorites are the char grilled oysters, crawfish bread, ribs, baby back ribs, and various creole types of shrimp. Always make it a point to visit when in the area.

My wife and I have been going here since they moved from the city. The food is outstanding. The menu is huge for the size of the place. Last time there i had the short rib special. They should make it e regular item.

I love Mara's for what it is. A hole in the wall BBQ spot. The char-grilled clams are delicious. They are stingy with the 2 tiny pieces of bread that comes with it for almost $30. I always order the stuffed baked potato with brisket inside. HUGE potato and sooo good. Big enough for a meal. The fried chicken, mac & cheese, ribs, brisket, fish and shrimp are also good here. Will be back!

Great food, excellent whiskey list
Some of the best Cajun food you will find and a very extensive whiskey selection.

This was my second visit,
This was my second visit, and it did not disappoint. They have a stuffed craw fish bread that is fantastic. We each ordered different items, and everyone was pleased. I ordered a seasonal special, craw fish over fusili pasta that was just great. My wife got some fried chicken which was super juicy and delicious. Just a great, simple dish.
The service was friendly and fast, and the waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu items and the specials they were offering. They did not have the beer we wanted in draft, and she was quick to bring samples for us to try (we wanted a pitcher to share).
We will definitely be back!

Always a treat
A very friendly place tucked into a Muttontown strip mall. Great New Orleans style food and also a wonderful bbq menu as well. Our group had a mix of the items and everything got very high marks. My top picks were the shrimp feast and the St Louis ribs.

Who Dat in the Burbs
This Manhattan East Village transplant, family owned and run by native southerners, is an ethnic gem for a suburban neighborhood like Syosset. Having been to New Orleans half a dozen times, I can attest to its Cajun authenticity. The Crawfish Ettouffee is loaded with sweet tasty crawfish, cooked to chewy perfectection. The catfish is always fresh and flavorful, whether done with cajun spice over a bed of kale, or pecan crusted. The crawfish stuffed bread is also a treat and the blackened swordfish fresh and well spiced, The fried okra is among the best I've had. I haven't sampled from their barbecue menu but friends I dined with raved about the brisket. The pecan pie was a bit chewy for my taste but very flavorful.
2 thumbs up!
