Best bratwurst in town~
This was our third visit within a few months span, and the food and service have been outstanding each visit. We are from Cincinnati (aka. Porkopolis), and have been out here about 2 years. We hadn't found a bratwurst that came close to a Cincy variety until we ate here. Yummy! A definite rival! All the sausages we've tried here have been great. We'll be back, no doubt!!

I grew up in an Italian deli,
I grew up in an Italian deli, this place was a trip down memory lane (or flavors more like it). We ordered the "Whole Pig board", a board of Idiazabal (Spanish sheep cheese). As a side we had "Mixed Greens" (fines herbes, shallot, aged goat cheese, red wine vinaigrette). Everything was delish.
I was impressed by their wine selection. The mixed drinks looked interesting as well.
For dessert we had the "Chocolate Ménage a Trois" (A nut brittle, a flour less dark chocolate cake and my favorite a white chocolate custard with crushed cocoa nibs on top). The custard had nutmeg and other spices and it was super velvety. I accompanied it with a glass of Kopke Colheita Port 1989 (tasted like walnuts). Will definitely go back.

Though many of the tables
Though many of the tables are communal, we sat at a table for two. The restaurant is small and the beautiful meat counter and cooking area are visible from most tables. We were there early so it was not noisy but I would imagine, with all of the hard surfaces, when they are really busy, it could get very noisy. Our server was very knowledgeable, checking on cocktail ingredients for us and even bringing us a taste of the components. Dinner was wonderful. Each item on the Spanish board was delicious--with 4 different meats, a cheese almonds and roasted peppers and most generous. Butter lettuce salad was beautiful, fresh and lightly but flavorfully dressed. Mussels were perfectly prepared in a rich and flavorful broth. A great evening.

Great food & great service. We will definitely be going back!

We ordered the Spanish Board
We ordered the Spanish Board & fell in love with the Spanish ham, fresh chorizo, and Majorerra cheese. Of course the Charcuterie was amazing; it's what they do, but you would be remissed if you didn't try an entree. The roast pork loin with crispy potatoes, cornichons and mustard sauce was excellent.

If you love meat or just good
If you love meat or just good food, this is the place you should check out. Tucked in the corner of NW 17th and Thurman, but the food is tasty and vibe is urban hip.

Awesome, just what Portland needs!
We absolutely love our experience at O.P.! Would definitely bring visitors from overseas and friends.

Meat is good!
Everything that we ordered was fantastic - spot on! Two of us shared meat/cheese board and a chacouterie plate. Plenty of food! Cocktails were perfect. We will go back!

Wonderful Neighborhood Restaurant
Between the four of us, we had the salmon, the meatballs and the pasta. All of it was mouth watering. The service was excellent. It was a little loud (so would not be your quiet romantic evening place) , but was perfect for the energy of our group.

What a find!
First night in town! What a unique and yummy experience !

This is a wonderful place
This is a wonderful place to get cured meats; my Bratwurst was the best ever. The potato salad was heavy but full of flavor; it could be a delicious meal in itself. The servers are attentive; the atmosphere is very casual, deli like. The wine list is extensive and fairly expensive. The prime rib looked fabulous.

One of the Best in PDX
Olympic Provisions is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. The food is excellent along with the service. This NW location is smaller than the SE location, but provides an intimate atmosphere. Highly recommended!

This is the second time we have been to Olympic Provisions. The second was as good as the first. We had the three course meal and it was wonderful. Flavors were spot on. The dessert plate served on a small wooden tray was exceptional.

We sat at one of the streetside tables shaded by a large tree. Very little street traffic on a Friday evening, so it was enjoyable. The French Board was a wonderful opening serve; good variety of meats. The pork loin was flavorful and moist. The portion large so I was able to take hafl home for another meal. Service excellent, friendly and relaxed.

Good food and Great Service
My husband and I had dinner on a weekend night and were very pleased to be immediately seated. Our waiter was very efficient and friendly; we couldn't have asked for better service. My husband had a beer, but I decided to try El Diablo, which was refreshing on a very warm, June evening. I started with the beets with aged balsamic, which were very good. My husband had a fresh lettuce salad with a light, tasty dressing. I chose the pork loin special of the day, which I ended up sharing with my husband as it was a rather large piece of meat. My husband had bratwurst and potato salad; both were excellent. We look forward to a return visit!

We arrived early and before dinner service. Instead of being sent away, which would have been fair, we were treated to a smile and encouragement to sit down and enjoy a cocktail and appetizer before dinner. The Chef's choice charcuterie plate included a pork shoulder rillette I will dream about forever and asked if they sold in vats so I could bathe in it. The rotisserie chicken was so amazing I won't be able to buy one at Safeway ever again without wishing I was at Olympic provisions instead. My companion ordered the gnocchi, which was as light as a cloud. Our only regret was not leaving room for dessert, but we would have had difficulty choosing. I go to Portland about 4 times a year - every trip will include at least one meal here.

This is the third time I've been to Olympic Provisions and the food is wonderful. The staff is always friendly and professional. The only complaint I have is I made reservations ahead of time and requested a outside table. They put us inside where it was hot and there were tables available outside when my sister got there. She wasn't aware I had requested outside so by the time I got there they were all full. Wish they would check the requests area on their reservations.

Portland at its Finest
We came upon their NW location almost by accident but it was a great find. The Friday night dinner service was friendly and prompt. The wine service was knowledgeable and spot on. The chilled Cote du Provence Rose was perfect for our meal which included the Chef's Choice charcuterie board, local oysters on the half shell, local salad greens with a buttermilk dressing, a whole rotisserie chicken, lamb shoulder crepinette with ratatouille, and a German sausage made with flecks of cheese. Everything sang with clean, bold and true flavors, textures, and taste. We immediately made reservations for Saturday Brunch and we were treated to another first rate meal -- kielbasa hash, sweetheart ham, brioche french toast and great brats.

What can I say..., it's delicious and I'll be back soon.

We have been here twice in the last few months. All the food it top quality and flavorful. Have had very good service. Don't mind the communal tables, they give enough room. Like the water on the table. It has a very European casual dinning feel.
My only complaint is if you linger for dinner you will probably be numb in the lower regions. The metal chairs are not comfortable after about 30-45 minutes. Both times we and our guests commented on the seats. Maybe just add a small cushion to them? Thanks.

A meat-tastic time!
One of the best places I went to in Portland! I had the most succulent prime rib and a killer side of vegetables with schmaltz. There's too many tasty things to choose from, so go with a group and share your plates! The only thing is in it's a random part of town, so there isn't much around it.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
...like you have never met it before! The meats here are beyond description. Have the frankfurter...then have another one- that good. And perfect for breakfast with the best bacon and ham in the world! Even the vegetable sides are just spot on, try the salad with rice and chickpeas, I couldn't t stop eating it!
Olympic Provisions, oh how I love thee....

Terrific little gem on a quiet street with nice staff, small but choice menu, well executed and presented. Highly recommended.

Charcuterie at its BEST!!!
Salumist, Elias Cairo, has brought his "old World" craft to the masses. Everything is handmade/handcrafted with care and flavors from generations before. While we stayed in Portland, OR for 2 weeks, we managed to dine at both locations for a total of 3 times. The Spanish and Chef's choice boards are great ways to start your meal paired with either local and imported beers or wines. The rotisserie Prime Rib was perfectly done and seasoned well.Crispy Skin Rockfish was light, flaky and moist.Luckily, blueberries were in season-the blueberry handpie with hazelnut ice cream completed our meal. Wished we could have eaten more... We went in for early dinner and beat the crowd.

Old School Great
If you want food prepared the way they used to, with elements that satisfy even today's foodies' sophisticated palates, look no further. The charcuterie has the personal emotional investment seen mainly in Germany combined with the flavor sensibility of the French, using locavore-style ingredients worthy of Portlandia-skit accolades. The prime rib was also perfectly prepared and seasoned. And did I mention the service? Even on a busy night, we were attended to as if no one else was there, with no-such-thing-as-a-problem aplomb. One of my favorite small things they do: a quartino option for wine -- juuuust right.

Quality dining experience
Our party of six had a very high quality Friday evening dining experience. Everything we ordered was excellent. The service was very good. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. One of our party had food allergies and the waiter took extra time following up with the chef tomake sure she was ok with the items she chose fr the menu. The Spanish board we had for starters was a fabulous selection. We wished we had ordered another board but were glad we didn't because our main courses were so filling. The rotisserie chicken was moist and flavorful. The mixed sausages plate was fiery tasty ! The sauerkraut was divine. The collard greens seasoned with chorizo was well seasoned and cooked to perfection! My husband raved about the collards.

Rustic and Vibrant
If you're in the mood for a European deli atmosphere, this place is for you. Although the menu is limited, what they do offer is very tasty. I recommend the rabbit confit and a glass of Valpolicella with someone you love. When they light the candles at night, this deli transforms into a romantic cafe that you won't want to miss.

This is one of our faves
We usually go to the location in SE but they were booked so we tried this one. Our waiter was extremely professional and funny as well. Next time I think I would sit at the bar and watch the masters make the food. To start off we ordered the chef's choice charcuterie plate and for dinner I had the chicken and my wife had the Basque Piperad. Both of our dishes were so delicious and just an overall special evening. Thanks, OP!

Soup was great and with charcuterie makes a modestly priced but very nice meal with diverse taste. Don't need more.

Still my fave PDX dining experience
Decided on a plate, a first, and a main. Was hoping there would be more vegetable choices like last time (WOW), but went with all meat this time, sharing with one other person, and there was still room for dessert! Excellent quality here.

Prime rib was fantastic
We were a little surprised to walk in and see how small it was, but after getting settled enjoyed having the chefs right there so that we could watch them--the waiter was superb!! very attentive and friendly but not overbearing--the only thing unusual was that we ordered soup for a starter and it came with the main meal--next time will ask that the starter come earlier--rotisserie prime rib was butter tender and the horseradish butter really made the dish--we will go back to try other things on their diverse menu

a Pearl in the Northwest
While located outside the trendy Pearl District, this Olympic Provisions location is a great place for dinner that's a notch above a regular evening dining out. The food is great and the menu has a wide variety of offerings, even if the number is necessarily limited. The wine list is extensive, offering a broad range of boutique wineries. I also like the option of a "quartino," between a glass and a full bottle. They also offer a fantastic variety of charcuterie to take home.
It is small and the tables are fairly close, if that's an issue for you. The chairs are metal and can be a bit uncomfortable after a while.
