Great surprise - great food
Knowing this was an SBC place, I went in with moderate expectations (been to too many places where I am a huge fan of the chef but the creative cooking I enjoy has been replaced with whatever the owner thinks I want). BIG surprise. This is not a bar food place, the food is way beyond that. Lobster and waffles, pork belly, fried chicken, steak - all cooked perfectly, nicely seasoned, great sauces, ample portions. Menu lets you order all over the place, big meal, small bites with a drink etc. What scored BIG in my book? The music was so loud we could not hear each other talk (not a problem after 9 but at 7, we are there to chat and eat, not hang at the bar). The very kind server had the music toned down. Wow! Will certainly be back!

Great Addition To SONO - +++++
Found NOLA on opentable. It has been open only 5 weeks. Had 9PM rezees. Got there at 8:45 and was asked if we wanted to have a drink at the bar. We decided we wanted to be seated. Maitre'd noticed the request for a quieter table and we were immediately seated in the back room which is far quieter than the main area. Justine was our waitress and appeared within seconds. The two Blood Orange Margaritas were excellent. This menu is interesting and different. So Justine, upon being asked, went through her favorites. The collard greens, the lobster on cornmeal waffle, the Kentucky Fried Quail. The food was excellent. Attentive service by a friendly and welcoming staff. Their burgers/fries looked amazing! We will be back. Highly recommended!

Very nicely done! The menu
Very nicely done! The menu is eclectic, diverse and has something for everyone. We have not have a bad dish. Great presentation, great flavors. Bring a appetite and order all different kinds of dishes to try. This one is going into our rotation! Yes, it is extremely loud in the bar area, but you can talk later. Enjoy!

Amazing sauces require bread!
Food was outstanding. The executive chef also works at The Whelk in Westport, so you are getting all of his inventiveness without the ridiculous price tag, and the portion sizes were way more generous! The Lobster and Waffles is as phenomenal as the reviews say.
My one complaint that management needs to get on top of is BREAD. Our table of 4 ordered mussels and an oyster bake as apps, and the broth and sauce were so good, they needed lots of bread to soak them up. The mussels came with ONE slice, so we requested more, and got ONE more piece. Um, it's BREAD. Charge me if you want, but come on! The waiter was so embarrassed, he quickly brought out four more and joined in on our laughter. Super noisy place, but fun for a night on the town.

Like New Orleans in Norwalk.
Like New Orleans in Norwalk. Much needed quality restaurant serving interesting food with New Orleans flair. Wait staff is very friendly and very professional. Definitely don't miss.

Service was outstanding.
Service was outstanding. Food was OK. We would go back for a drink but the wine was $12 per glass and only one choice for Chardonnay. Too pricy.

NOLA is a welcome new dining
NOLA is a welcome new dining spot in SoNo (South Norwalk, CT). Inventive menu (lobster waffles) with stand-outs (massive burger!).
My wife and I were joined by another couple - perfect setting. Highly recommend it!

Good food, OK service, Nice place.
We've been here a few times. Food is pretty good but not crazy authentic. Nice decor - ask to sit in front where the action is, not the back room (unless you have a large party). Service can be fantastic or dour depending on who your server is. Always a manager nearby. Recommend the lobster & waffles, the spicy margarita and the corn bread pudding.

Interesting, flavorful and unique
Our waiter recommended the mussels small plate for an appetizer. Excellent preparation and generous portion that was enjoyed for our group of four diners. The lobster/waffle dinner was excellent as was the scallop entrée - also recommendations from our waiter. Limited wine list, but some nice options at reasonable prices.
There is a main room and a back dining area that seems isolated and a little dark. We requested a booth in the main room and are glad that we did although the hard surfaces in the brick-walled room make this a noisy place to dine. Even so, the quality of the food more than made up for the noise level. Will definitely put this on our list of favorite spots in SONO.

Excellent restaurant, especially
Excellent restaurant, especially the staff. It's nice, well decorated space but they need a quiet er place to put baby boomers so they can enjoy the place and maintain what little hearing they have left.

The restaurant is a great
The restaurant is a great addition to SONO. The menu provides a unique flair to its selection of Louisiana cuisine with New England influence. The Clam Poutine is delcious. Its a winning combination of clams, bacon, cheese, and other ingredients over fries. The lobster corn waffle is NOLA's take on the Chicken and Waffle from the South, and this offering over delivers. Plenty of lobster, a unique combination, delicious! The brussel sprouts are mixed with maple syrup and bacon. They are delcious, and if I was served this as a kid, I would always have eaten my sprouts. The oysters were fresh and delicious. After all I shared an entree-the scallops which were served with thin sliced ham-outsanding. Food=great.

Lobster and waffle amazing! Everyone so helpful and nice. Like the menu. Really had fun evening

Went early-ish (5:30) on a Friday for dinner. Winoa oysters were fresh and fabulous, recommended by waiter. Entrees we had (Shrimp and grits, Sea scallops) were perfectly cooked and flavors were balanced. Asked for the mustard greens salad and ended up getting Napa cabbage, but it tasted great with caramelized ginger, so we kept it. Corn bread pudding with Bourbon sauce was nice. Overall, a very good dinner and a welcome addition to an area full of New England and Mediterranean style seafood.
5/2/2013 4:00:00 PM
Top notch raw bar featuring exotic delicacies and a surprising menu with exciting tastes and classic New Orleans cuisine.Great signature cocktails and friendly service too!
5/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had dinner at Nola on a Friday night, when the restaurant was quite full. The food was really good. Lobster with corn meal waffle, Burger and chicken were each very nicely done. The only let down was the forgettable curly fries that might have come out of an ore ida bag. Corn meal bread pudding was a rich and tasty dessert. Service was good and friendly. Specialty drinks were just ok. We'll go back.

My wife and I were both impressed with the quality of food and interesting menu choices. I was skeptical but the blackened shrimp with pork fried rice my wife ordered was fantastic. The clam poutine was awesome, a must have if you're a poutine fan. Also had the oysters from PEI which were good. For a main dish I had the Poached Lobster & Cornbread Waffles which was extremely rich and flavorful. The food definitely reminded me of The Whelk in Westport where we had eaten a couple weeks earlier. Prices are much lower here though and the atmosphere is much trendier. The train rumbles by every 15 minutes or so but since it's not a quiet restaurant and has a vibrant bar scene it wasn't disturbing. My new favorite restaurant in Norwalk!

Try a taste of Louisiana @ Nola's
I really liked Nola's. The dining area has a very metro cozy feel to it. The food was delicious! There were four of us and we tried a variety of the "not so small plates". The "greens" were tasty, tender and well seasoned like you would find collards in the south. The fried oyster was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, cooked well and seasoned perfectly. The lobster and cornmeal waffles were wonderful. The sweetness of the waffle really complemented the lobster, and the fried brussel sprouts with a hint of maple goodness were awesome!! I want that recipe! I have to say that we enjoyed every dish we tried; and also want to say that the service staff was attentive and friendly and knew the menu which was very helpful.

Delicious food and friendly
Delicious food and friendly service for Mother's Day. Our only issue was that the prix fixe menu for brunch hadn't been posted on the restaurant's website so we were surprised upon arrival. The manager was extremely accommodating however, and we all really enjoyed our meals! We'll definitely return for a different special occasion.
5/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
exemplary customer service. We requested a move away from a very loud party. NO problem..... We had some business to conduct before dinner so we were slow to order. NO problem...... The entire staff should teach a course to other restaurant employees on how to treat customers. And the food was as good as ever.
5/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
Delicious. Moved to the back
Delicious. Moved to the back room becuase the bar area is sooo loud. But it turned out they were having a birthday party for about 20-25 adults. However we were just about done with our meal when they started arriving, so all was good. Food is delicious! We are definitely going back. The burgers were amazing, although I couldn't believe with all the different food items on the menu, that is what I would order. But having tasted it, I definitely will be back for a burger! I had the jambalaya, also delicious. We shared the lobster and waffles, corn meal fried oysters and clam poutine, all winners. And the brussel sprouts too. Really enjoyed the meal, but be prepared for loudness.
5/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
Delicious and fun to share
The food was creative and amazing. Very very rich. My only complaint would be there's not a lot of healthy choices. We like to mix the rich and heavy with healthy. Maybe we just ordered wrong. The burger, poutine, mussels, grits, blackened shrimp and fried rice were all amazing. We split the above between two adults and three children ages 9 and 11. It was plenty of food. Service was amazing. We did go early at 6:00 when it wasn't crowded or loud.
5/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
We loved the food and drinks
We loved the food and drinks and had a great time with our friends! The only complaint is the service. We ordered a bunch of small plates to share and were disappointed when they all arrived at the same time versus staggered. The table wasn't big enough for the plates on it. Us we cancelled our raw bar order since they didn't arrive before the hot food. Still worth it for the food but the service needs work.
5/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
What a find!
We walked in on a whim and were dazzled by great service, comfortable, inviting ambience and layout and most important, superb dishes. Well constructed menu made ordering easy and entertaining. Everything that came out of the kitchen was a delight. Don't miss the jambalaya with soft-shell crab. The aromatic, complex jambalaya seasoning does not mask the delicate flavor of the crab but instead compliments and highlights it.
5/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good southern food
My husband and I really enjoyed our meal . The steamed mussels were probably the best we ever had and the soft shell crab jambalaya had just the right amount of heat and was delicious. We would go back again for another meal.

NOLA In SONO
My Fathers Day choice was NOLA as I noticed they offered Cobb Island oysters and shrimp with their heads on. We had never been here before and were very pleased. The menu is short , the food superb. I could go on and on but, I suggest you go and taste the Creole cooking. SHHHHHH!
6/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food - below average service
We went for a birthday celebration. The food was very good. We would definitely go back to see what else the chef is creating. The service was below average and slow. Even though the restaurant was only 50% full our waiter could not manage simple tasks. We had to get up and find him to get the check. He seemed more interested in talking to other waiters and the bar tender than getting our food. (Also we booked through Open table and added a note that this was a birthday celebration and no one made mention of that: from the people who check us in to the waiter, etc. First time this has happened with an Open table reservation)
6/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great spot that delivered.
Oysters were fantastic as were the other dishes that we tried, particularly the mussels. Enjoyed the whole experience and would return.
6/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Came with 3 great friends for some great food and we were not disappointed! Delicious specialty drinks and a well-thought, creative, and yummy menu! The oysters tasted like they were fresh from the ocean and the classic New Orleans twist on the food was amazing. Will be back!

terrific spot with outstanding service. the staff is terrific. great food and signature cocktails.

NOLA in SONO is a YES
Really enjoyed the way the food was prepared different at NOLA. Just creative and southern enough to appreciate hate without throwing your palate. Good variety of options on the menu, though I ended up with the burger, which was outstanding with it's variety of toppings and excellent preparation.
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Place had great beer taps, great food and the waiter knew what he was talking about. Great Place.

Great Food & Friendly Service
The food was very good. We had 2 gluten free foodies with us and the chef was very flexible and gave wonderful choices. The Paella was topped with a soft shell crab.....it had a bit of spice and was chock full of goodies, not just rice! The scallops with celery puree were cooked to perfection! The sauce tasted a bit creamy. Of course the raw bar was delicious! The salads were crisps with wonderful combinations! The Bronzini was terrific as well!
7/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were 3 for dinner my first time at NOLA last week. We had a terrific server and what I would label upscale shore cuisine. I especially liked the small plate availability. My only hesitation with NOLA is the noise level. It is clearly geared to a younger crowd.
I also liked the Open Table reservation system.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
What a wonderful find! A bit of New Orleans in every dish- but subtle, so as to appeal to a wise variety of tastes. The service was attentive, without being overly so. The food was expertly cooked to perfection- the lobster would melt in your mouth. Lovely presentation but not too theatrical.
The menu offers a wide price range of dishes- not often seen in a restaurant of this calibre.
NOLA Oyster Bar is a fine dining and we plan to become regulars.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great New Orleans cuisine.
Great New Orleans cuisine. Scallops with celery root sauce and fried catfish with jambalaya were delicious!

The 4 of us enjoyed not only
The 4 of us enjoyed not only the delicious food, friendly and attentive service but overall atmosphere despite the occasional train overhead. We appreciate receiving the cozy corner seating we requested via Open Table that was honored by Nola Oyster Bar.
We'll be back!

Delicious and unique
Great food! Small portions, so you can try a few things Tapas-style. Everything we had was outstanding. Mostly seafood options with a southern flare. I had a great experience and would highly recommend for something a little different from the norm.

Food wonderful/staff hit or miss
This was our second visit to NOLA. We returned since we had really liked the food and the wait staff had been terrific! This visit was a bit disappointing. The food was still terrific, but the bar was incredibly noisy (it was Friday night, so I could live with that) but the restaurant wasn't particularly busy and the wait staff was incredibly distracted and difficult to keep on track. Following an order for a dozen oysters to share being placed on the table, we couldn't get anyone's attention to bring us small plates and when we had finished the oysters, the dinner came out with the appetizers, rather the having the other appetizers come to the table first. Those kinds of glitches make me less inclined to recommend the restaurant.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were pleasantly surprised with our experience at NOLA. Great menu selections were very well executed.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
I would go back
Very tasty food. A bit weird pairing of fish on the gumbo but everything we had was pretty yummy. The crawfish risotto was excellent but so filling we had to take home a lot of the main meal. A little on the pricey side. We will go back for sure.

I had a wonderful experience from beginning to end at NOLA Oyster Bar. Even though we had a reservation we were greeted and seated immediately upon walking in. My boyfriend and I were on a date, and we were sat at a great table, romantic enough but not too secluded. Our waiter greeted us at a perfect time and was very attentive. He gave us just enough time to eat and chat without hovering. Food, drinks and raw bar were all amazing, with a great southern flare. As a lover of the true New Orleans & French Quarter, NOLA brought a true New Orleans feel to this restaurant. I have and would continue to recommend this restaurant to friends and family. Great place!

Food is good, service is fair.
Food is good, service is fair. Weird thing is, it's not for lack of employees…..I would go again, but with a few changes, this could be a great place.

Lobster and Waffles, who knew!
We've now been to NOLA three times. The first time was good, though the food tends to be a bit salty. The second was for drinks and the NOLA roasted oysters and brussel sprouts- both to die for. Seriously, the sprouts are like candy: sweet, savory, bacon-y goodness. This last time we started with NOLA's signature dish- lobster and waffles. I was apprehensive at first but it was the most amazing combination- so flavorful, so decadent. The drinks are always fantastic, too. Perfect for date nights and special occassions.

A taste of New Orleans in Norwalk
Went here on a recent Sumday evening for dinner with my family. The crab fondue small plate was a perfect starter, easy to share, and very tasty. The fried chicken sandwich was good but not amazing. The scallops were delicious and the best meal ordered was the shrimp and grits. Plenty of shrimp and cooked to perfection. It had just the right amount of heat to add the kick we wanted in the dish. I'd recommend this spot for anyone looking for southern style seafood!
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Surf. with some turf.
An interesting take on a N'Orleans restaurant in SoNo. All of my experiences here have been with seafood which is very good, however, on the way out, I saw someone eating a hamburger the size of a small child. I went over and asked him how it was and he said it was delicious. So, there is more then creative seafood at this place. A good night out.

Fairfield county's best kept secret
The Nola Oyster Bar is a very very good restaurant with some outstanding foods. The decor includes a couple little fireplaces which are located all around the main dinning room. They have wooden floors with dark red cozy booths. You might come here with you family for a special occasion or just to hang out with the family. Something's to look out for is the smoothly textured artichoke dip with crunchier chips to dip in the dip. Also the shrimp fried rice with mushrooms. The portabello mushroom really fit in with dish and the shrimp and rice are perfectly cooked. The service is great. The waters check on you giving you free refills of your drink. If your looking for above family sit down restaurant then this is definitely the place for you.

Not Your Ordinary Brunch
Wow what a great Brunch! The Corn Bread Waffles are out of this world good & go great with Lobster and/or Eggs. The Cabbage & Mushroom Salad was a great way to start our meal. Our server was very friendly & knowledgeable but a bit distracted even though the restaurant wasn't busy at the time. If you like Bloody Mary's there's even a toppings bar. We would DEFINETLY come back again and bring friends too.
