Charlie Bird Sings!
Charlie Bird is one of those rare restaurants where the food is so incredibly special and yet totally accessible that you could return daily and be excited each time. Chef Ryan Hardy has genuine cooking chops, which show in the way he prepares his ethereal handmade pasta, unBELIEVABLE suckling "piglet" (w/ crispy skin on top), meltingly tender octopus, spectacular straciatella (burrata-like cheese) with tiny radish slices and bright green favas, and even tripe, which is something I have always loathed until now. He sources fantastic ingredients and puts them together in ways that are gorgeous to look at and so enticing you cannot wait to dig in. I can't say enough about this great new addition to the NYC restaurant scene.

It was a bit difficult to find the entrance, but once we did we were totally taken in with a knowledgeable staff, wonderful service, and a delicious dinner. I liked that there were only a few items from which to choose in each of the categories--you knew the food would be special since the focus was on a few rather than many. We did not know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised.

A new favorite
Some of the best service we've had - from the reception to the bar, to the table. And unique small plates - all of which were great. We can't say a bad word about this place

Service with a Smile
As many restaurants struggle to maintain a following, I have no doubt Charlie Bird will ever face this challenge. The food is well prepared yet it's the hospitable staff who treat you so graciously with their smiles and pleasant demeanor that make the dining experience a delight.

Was a great "Saturday night" experience. Fun energy, cool neighborhood feel that was just as much about the delicious food and service. Only thing I might recommend is seating those who have reservations (like myself) in the main dining area vs. the front bar area. Understanding that the restaurant is on the smaller side, I would have still preferred a proper seating.

Run, do not walk before word gets put. This place is amazing!!!tripe was to die for!!.chicken liver was sublime. Every dish perfection. This is our new fave. Love, love, love Charlie bird!!!!

The location is kind of a trick to find - especially if you're driving to dinner - and the entrance is pretty small. Wasn't quite sure who to check in with as everyone on staff is dressed fairly casually. Once we got to our table things started to click. We got a seat in the back next to a large window overlooking 6th. The space at Charlie Bird is kind of tight; the window helped open up the room for us. The menu was really thoughtful. We skipped the raw bar but had trouble choosing between all the small plates / vegetables + there was a selecton of pastas. In the end we passed in the main course too. The menu was seasonal -- winner? Farro salad with mint and pistachios. Great wine list + by the glass. The wine glasses - the best I've seen.

Great overall experience
Creative menu, excellent and attentive service, and a very pleasant atmosphere. Every dish we had was fantastic and beyond expectations in terms of taste. Portions on the smaller side, but I did leave full. Great new addition.

Trendy but worth it.
We shared a smattering of dishes and all were top-notch. The veal ragu and suckling pig were particularly wonderful. Beware, however; service is good, but slower than usual for NYC restaurants. This would not be a problem except you only have your reserved table for two hours.
The space is good, but it fills up after 6p.m., as this is a current hot spot.

A Terrific Find
It is wonderful to come across a restaurant that clicks for you, the diner. The food is imaginative, the wine list in a class well above the ordinary, the service is professional, and accessible. The setting is a little crowded, and the place can be loud, but the dining experience makes those issues worth putting up with. Many people in New York consider themselves restaurant critics (in their own minds) and I am certainly one of them, but this restaurant is worth many return visits.

they lost our reservation!
And I had spoken with a reservationist earlier in the week to confirm! When we showed the hostess the email confirmation from opentable, they were confused and apologetic, but made no effort to seat us immediately, on time (8:30 pm Sunday). And there were plenty of open 2-tops! Poor showing. The food is delicious, but we won't risk going back until the system works!

I took my boyfriend to Charlie Bird for his birthday. We had a fantastic meal. The duck egg pasta was outstanding and for entrees the veal and chicken were both delicious. My favorite course is dessert, and the pana cotta was really out of this world. The wine list is expensive, but good values for the great wines available.
