The food was amazing, I can't
The food was amazing, I can't wait to go back! I went with a group of friends and we started with a cheese plate and one of their specials which was a grilled spicy avocado- a really unique taste. The burger was perfection and we finished with the bread pudding with hot fudge which was HUGE. I can't wait to go back and eat again, this will definitely become a regular spot for me.

Fantastic service and great
Fantastic service and great food. They accomodated us and put a party of 2 in a booth that could seat 4, even on a Saturday night. They even had extra bread from their bakery downstairs in a basket on our way out! All in all, great.

Fried Chicken Is Out of This World
The Blue Ribbon group tout their fried chicken as the best in the city, and in contention for the best in the land. Having grown up in the Midwest, with the likes of Strouds, I can say with confidence that their claim is valid. This was some of the best fried chicken I have had anywhere. They have some great inventive, yet classic dishes, on the menu - think "classic with a twist". We will be going back again soon.

Great comfort food and decadent
Great comfort food and decadent desserts; all fresh and tasty.. Amazing freshly baked bread on premises -- go downstairs to see oven from late 1800s! Private party rooms as well. Wonderfully attentive service, gracious hosts: Morgan and David.

always a really good place
food is fresh and tasty and service very good/friendly. the catfish was really tender! for the cheese plate just wish server was a bit more knowledgable so could have avoided ordering similar cheeses.

Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen was AMAZING. Great spot for dinner in the W. Village. Will definitely be going here again.

Tasty, Beautiful, Quirky
My first experience here was very enjoyable. We shared a delicious cheese plate to start. The waiter was very helpful when choosing drinks. Most importantly, the fried chicken was as good as advertised. The interior decoration was very charming, especially when i discovered the hidden downstairs area. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a classy but fun American restaurant.

Great place, great food.
Have been the Blue Ribbon before, always consistent, food was great.
Shrimp and chorizo never disappoint. Filet was cooked perfectly med rare as requested, and you should get a side of fries.
Service is always on point, friendly and helpful. Despite the fact that it was pouring out, we had a fantastic meal with good company in a lovely space. Definitely going back.
And if you have a group, so fun to sit downstairs at the table by the kitchen. Gorgeous area.

It has it all...
This was our second visit to Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen, and it just keeps getting better. Because we were a party of 8, we were able to sample a wide variety of dishes that suited the palates of all. The smoked trout salad and beef marrow appetizers were outstanding, and the market salad was as good as it was during our first trip to the restaurant. The main courses and drinks were excellent as well, including the deliciously seasoned but not overly spicy cajun catfish. What really enhanced our meal was the attentive and engaging service. We look forward to future trips and extraordinary culinary experiences at this restaurant.

It is interesting that they
It is interesting that they do not serve omelettes for brunch, so we found the brunch menu to be a bit limiting, but the food was delicious.

Quintessential NY Experience.
Returned to Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen and they never disappoint. The food, service, ambiance all first class. Look forward to going back. And don't forget your loaf of bread on the way out!
6/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
great neighborhood dining
We had an avocado appetizer that was especially good. The salmon main course with asparagas was prepared the way salmon should be served; rarer in the center making it moist. The mustard sauce served with it was very tasty.
6/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
Aim to please. Food is spot on. Nothing is overdone or pretentious. This spot is a staple.

Delicious... everything right down to the bread they serve with the butter! We sat upstairs and enjoyed some people watching thanks to the nice big windows and Blue Ribbon's corner location. While we didn't eat downstairs, be sure to at least check it out -- the open bakery is very cool. Ordered beets and goat cheese (melt-in-your-mouth), shrimp and chorizo (so flavorful), fried chicken (I don't need to add to any of the other incredible reviews -- it was perfect), and strip steak (cooked to perfection). Enjoyed the hot fudge sundae and amazing chocolate chip bread pudding for dessert. We left full and happy and positive we'll be back soon.

One of my favorites in W Village
I always have a great experience at this restaurant. The service is phenomenal and the manager always stops by to check in to see how things are. Get whatever the special is that night, it's always a dynamic, delicious dish. Starts with the cheese plate too.

Friday night find
I recently moved to the west village and have been meaning to try Blue Ribbon since. Scored an awesome corner window seat on a great night (not too crowded, every table was full) terrific ambience and then the food and drink arrived. Presented by an attentive and courteous wait staff who were all informed, I knew we were in good shape the second the freshly baked bread arrived at the table. Fantastic freshly churned butter to boot! Stellar apps, delicious entres and indulgent desserts, the meal was a real winner!!! Escargot, shimp and churico, fried chicken with honey and mashed potatoes, hot fudge sundeay. From start to finish a GREAT meal!
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delicious but aggressively loud!
The food was great, but it was impossible to hear my dining companion seated a few feet across from me at a two-top. With little or no sound-absorbing surfaces in the restaurant, the large group seated nearby created a wall of noise over which we couldn't hear ourselves or the waitress. Which is unfortunate because the dishes were all very well prepared and other than the sound level the dining room is very pleasant.

Cute bistro, delicious food
My husband and I went here for dinner on a weeknight at 8 pm. The upstairs was pretty crowded - we were seated downstairs, which was not as packed. The ambience was nice, low lighting, mellow music, baking bread which smelled amazing. Our waiter was super friendly. The bread we got to start was a bit disappointing - we were expecting something warm and crusty given we could smell fresh bread baking. We then ordered an artichoke salad, which was great! My husband had the sea bass which he loved. My burger looked amazing and I wanted to love it, but it was slightly underseasoned. For dessert we had a chocolatey concoction halfway between mousse and flourless choc cake - delicious. Overall, a bit on the pricey side, but would definitely return

we went for a very early dinner,
we went for a very early dinner, so hard to judge noise level and energy with a full crowd. the best onion soup, although a bit pricey. brussel sprouts fabulous as well as garlic shrimp appetizer. we also really enjoyed a seafood chowder special. would definitely return. the staff was very accomodating - especially when we had to push back our reservation several times due to traffic. luckily, it was early, so changing the time was no problem.

I should eat here more often
I have a dairy allergy, and they were very helpful. The wait staff was communicative and knowledgeable; that is a MUST when dining with an allergy.
Our party of 4 included 2 children. The manager or owner even came by to check on us when one of the kids had a finicky moment about her meal. He brought us a different dish for her, and then they took her meal off the check (which was above and beyond good service.)
We ate downstairs in a round, corner booth. It was both private and quiet. My boyfriend and I have been a few times in the past for romantic dates, so I always request to be seated downstairs.
Overall it was a delightful experience, straightforward and tasty. I wanted to have a bigger stomach.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went with my girlfriends and had an amazing meal. We went for lunch and got two orders of the fried chicken, the blue reuben sandwich, and the banana walnut bread pudding. The food was delicious. On top of all this amazing food, the service was great! They were very friendly & attentive and at the same time, made you feel very comfortable. Do not hesitate to go here! I seriously loved my experience.
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
i took my 7 yr old nephew for dinner - on the early side - and it could not have been a more lovely dinner. nephew delighted with watching the baking in the basement. kid sized burger was perfect - and the fries were awesome for chile and adult alike. good cocktails and fish prepared perfectly. crazy good special side of grilled avacado. desserts were quite a hit (rootbeer float and hot fudge sundae). and of course the bread is the star.
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was great, try to get a table downstairs, the ambiance down there is as good as it gets.

A Night at Blue Ribbon Bakery
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. It is not inexpensive but worth the splurge. The only negative comment was that we arrived on time for our 7pm reservation and it was quiet. By the time we finished, it was difficult to hear the person across a small table for two. Otherwise, a great meal and a great experience.

Ask for Maggie or Bruce
Although this is a small venue, it's in a great part of Greenwich Village. The food is fantastic. The wine list is more then respectable. And the service was amazing. Maggie and Bruce were fantastic. Be sure you ask to sit at one of their tables. The strip steak was phenomenal -- juicy, tender, flavorful and just as good, if not better, than the best steakhouse you've been to. I highly recommend this more-than-nice restaurant in a great part of Manhattan.

Fried Chicken From a Bakery?
Having been there before, we knew that the Fried Chicken is the best in NY. It's a bakery (they give you a loaf of bread as you leave!) that's an excellent restaurant. This is not a bakery-brunch type place. It's menu for dinner runs the gamut from fish to short ribs and more. Everyone can find something to relish at this West Village landmark.
Try to sit in the lower level where the bakery is for added effect. The service was terrific with good advice regarding wine from the waiter. An excellent bottle in a mid=price range. Desserts are excellent as well.

My girlfriend and I had a late dinner reservation at 9:30. We arrived a little early and had a drink at the bar. The bartender was so friendly and chatted with us as he made us a couple of their signature cocktails. We were seated promptly in this very small space (they also have seats below where the bakery is) on the ground floor with a nice view of the the quaint intersection in the West Village. The food was absolutely fantastic! We started with the hummus plate and a plate of cheeses. Our waitress at every moment had a great suggestion. We then split the roast chicken served for 2 with sauteed spinach and the fluffiest mashed potatoes I've ever had. All in all it was a lovely experience with an extremely friends staff.

Best fried chicken!
We had a 9:15 reservation and they took us right on time - so that made us happy to start. Salads and octopus starters were wonderful. Five of the 6 of us had the friend chicken which was sooo good. Not greasy but tender and tasty. Desserts great also. Also, the bread was to die for and they gladly refilled our basket!
The service was fabulous.
Would recommend Blue Ribbon Bakery highly.

Nice neighborhood vibe, not
Nice neighborhood vibe, not pretentious and serving good food. Nothing fancy but just simple good food and a relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely go back and it's easy to get a reservation! None of this calling two months in advance to dine!
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Took the room downstairs to celebrate a birthday. Room was snug but cute (we were probably at capacity at 9). Fun being across from where the bread was being made. Nice to have privacy. Restaurant was extremely accommodating. Service was excellent.
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
...what can I say. This place never fails. The food is prepared beautifully and tastes every bit as good. They take simple entree's like fried chicken and knock them out of the park. The filet was perfectly prepared, the trout was delicious, the fried avocado was unusual and so good we ordered a 2nd. This place is a homerun.

(((BEST American Cuisine in NYC)))
Their grilled items (tuna, salmon, strip steaks, etc) are simply the freshest, tastiest, and best plates offered here... They do not disguise their food with odd ball sauces and garnishes - If you order a grilled tuna, you get a grilled tuna (and one that was probably caught that morning!)
Salads are crisp, dressings are light and made with simple ingredients...
Try the fried chicken (their signature dish!) and the grilled (roasted?) avocado (the latter being a deconstructed guacamole...awesome!)
I have been here with my wife...with my extended family...and one "guys night out." Each time has been like a homecoming...the staff are genuinely happy and they make you feel like a billion bucks!

Back after many years
I used to frequent this restaurant years ago. I went there the other night with not much expectation. I assumed with all the restaurants these brothers had opened this one would have suffered. Wrong! This place was better than ever. Everything we ate from the matzoh ball soup to the whole roast chicken were perfectly prepared and seasoned. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. It's now back on my list of favorite neighborhood restaurants.

Blue Ribbon deserves a Gold Star
Having heard about the Blue Ribbon restaurants for years I finally got the chance to experience what everyone has been raving about. We had a wonderful meal here on Saturday night. Our reservation was for 6:45 and we stayed until almost 10 without ever feeling rushed or hurried to leave. Everything, and I mean everything from the bread to the desert was top notch. We enjoyed the escargot, the artichoke salad, the hummus and the beef bone marrow for starters. The bone marrow with bacon toast was incredible! Our entrees included the filet mignon, NY Strip, the Cod special, the Fried Chicken and the duck. Deserts were amazing from the Hot Fudge Sunday to the Maine Root Beer Float. I cannot recommend this place enough!
