House made syrups make their drinks delicious. Non-alcoholic Ginger Beer was a big hit with the husband. We had an issue due to a dietary restriction on one of our entrees and the staff replaced it within 5 minutes at no charge. Highly recommend this place!

The service and food quality
The service and food quality is near the top inj Louisville. The portions were excellent for the price, and our server was extremely knowledgeable on the food and wine.

Incredible... the staff was
Incredible... the staff was adaptable and accommodating, the food was delicious, and the selection was well balanced. I love the seasonal menu, I'm sure they could easily find an audience for more vegetable-based dishes, though I would also welcome further innovations on the Scotch Egg theme. We'll definitely be back.

A little bit of NYC in Louisville. A menu that changes as the available local and seasonal items change so it is adventurous and I look forward to see what is new with each visit. Have been 4 times so far.

Ranked in the top 5 restaurants in Louisville in my opinion. Definitely pricey, but every bite and sip was worth it. Service was good, food was delivered fast and hot. Signature cocktails were delicious.

One of NuLu's quintessentially
One of NuLu's quintessentially "hip" restaurants, serving dishes that are well-crafted enough to warrant the somewhat self-satisfied ambiance. Their appetizers were phenomenal--the kimchi rice ball and hoisin pork lettuce wraps blew us away--but both of the main dishes were a little lackluster. Good, but not as incredible as the starters. Rye had a nice little small plates selection, so maybe next time we'll stick to those; several tables around us ordered them and they looked great. Their cheese plate dessert was spot-on--a great spread of cheeses with perfectly-paired flavors like pickled grapes, honey, and walnuts. The clientele was notably older than other restaurants in the area, with the average age around early- to mid-fifties.

Very good, almost great
First time at Rye. The cocktails were very well done. Great oysters and the crab on toast points as an appetizer were very well done. The entrees (my wife had an Ono fish entree and I had a pasta with shrimp) were very good but not quite as subperb as the other elements. Definitely another fun dining option in Nulu.

Hip, tasty, and way too noisy
As recent transplants to Louisville, we've been checking out the restaurant scene eagerly. Rye is one of the few places that we may visit again. The menu is small, but we found many attractive options. Food is very good, not mind blowing though. It's probably one of the best in Louisville, though would be average in a more developed food city like Portland. Prices are high-- fish entree was $30.
Decor is loft style, exposed brick, exposed duct work. Nice to look at, but unbearably noisy. Not a place for conversation.

Local is the new cool
Cauliflower and black lentil salad was perfection! The scallops were some of the best I've had and the crime brûlée was a nice ending. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and took into account all of our specific requests for changes to our orders with a smile. We met another couple for dinner for our first visit on a Friday at 6:30. It was approx. 1/2 full when we arrived and totally full by the time we left the restaurant and hour or so later.

Knocks Your Socks Off!
It never fails. My wife and I seem to find our favorite restaurant the same week we move (which seems to be every 2-3 years. Bottom-line, Rye is a superb restaurant because of its unique menu choices, great staff and a some chefs that know how to create tastes that can't be found anywhere else in Louisville. From the Cheese tray as an appetizer to the Kale salad, Scallops or steak and a greens kimchi mix, and an awesome chocolate dessert - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
6/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food here was amazing. A little pricy though. Great for that special occasion.

Interesting food at Rye!
This was our first visit and we enjoyed it tremendously. The food was unusual, unique and of excellent quality. We had both the meat and cheese plate appetizers. Cheese, meat and accompaniments were all delicious especially the duck breast, chorizo and fried pork ball. The black rice salmon ball was a little crunchy for my tastes but the broth was pungent and rich. The tempura avocado was the only item that fell short. The avocado was overwhelmed by the tempura batter and came across as bland. Pea Agnolotti and Culotte Steak were both well-prepared. Sauces were rich but not overwhelming, steak was cooked as ordered and the pasta was the perfect amount of al dente. The baked alaska dessert was unusual but basil ice cream was terrific.

Everything was great! Our server was super friendly and attentive. Enjoyed our night out!

Not great....service was wonderful
I had been to Rye once before and had one of the best meals ever. The salad I had this time was light and refreshing (cauliflower and lentils); my partner enjoyed the rice and salmon ball. I had a pasta main dish (cheese ravioli in a cream sauce w/crab) and my partner had the steak. Both dishes were ok but not great. My pasta dish was rich but lacked in flavor. My partner found his steak didn't live up to his expectations and the description of meats in the menu. The desserts were ok - nothing to exciting. I don't think I will be able to get my partner to go back....not sure I would try it again until the menu changes again (and then only if something really jumps out at me). In spite of the so so food - the service was wonderful. Too bad!

Shout it out: "Spectacular Food"
All foods tried were simply wonderful. Try mixing some small plates with entrees and sides. Plan to share, so that you get at least a taste of all that everyone at the table has ordered. Service was right on the mark.
One complaint: all hard surfaces. Add that with the background music and the bar in one room and the kitchen in the other....and it's NOISEY!!!! Now entering my Booming 7th decade, it gets hard to get used to such competition for my attention. I'm sure many view it as electric or invigorating. Still, the food and service make it worth tolerating. Probably avoiding a weekend night (especially a Trolley Hop Friday) would minimize this annoyance.

The best restaurant in town.
The best restaurant in town. I always send out of town guests here because I don't want them to miss it. Really appreciate the attention to detail in crafting the cocktails and fantastic dishes. Adventurous eaters and drinkers always find something fantastic here. The meat and cheese plates are very well thought out in ingredient selection and presentation. I always look forward to coming here!

A great port in the storm
Rye was recommended by some friends ("get a reservation!"). We did, but as it turned out a very fierce thunderstorm made it unnecessary. Although it was lateish and only one other couple in the bar, we were greeted warmly. We had a couple of drinks (Santa Anita was spicy hot, but excellent) and dinner. I had a perfectly cooked pork chop (huge) and my husband had a an equally grand steak. The triple-cooked fries were also excellent and served very hot (they had to restart the fryer for us... thank you for the effort)! The rolls were wonderful.
We had great convesation with the bartender. Sorry if we stayed a little too long.
On our way out, I saw the patio and gardens. If we hadn't been traveling, I would have lobbied for a repeat visit.

Good neighborhood place
Cute place in a fun neighborhood. We enjoyed our food, especially the oysters, although we felt the prices were a bit high for what you receive. Service was fine, but considering the prices I think it'd be nice to have a waiter who is dressed in something more formal than a tshirt and jeans.
7/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
From the time i entered the restaurant the good service and attentiveness never stopped. This being one my favorite restaurants I wasn't disappointed. Server was very helpful and enthusiastic. Everything we ordered was very good. Happy to learn they are opening a second location for lunch. Yippee!

Rye provides a great blend of creative and freshly prepared menu options with an eclectic, artsy atmosphere. With attentive staff providing detailed knowledge on all menu items, Rye is poised to be a leader in the new "NuLu" market street district.

Creative dishes. Presentation is stellar. Quality and quantity is worth every penny.
Music in bar is very loud.

We arrived at 6:30 and had no trouble being seated. Our waitstaff was very helpful, and the food was tasty. We will return.

Foodies and Drinkies
Lots of fun cocktails and bigger than expected selection of bourbon. Tried the "bite the bullet" and ended up going back to it for my 3rd cocktail of the night. Had the pork chop which was really nice with tasty collared greens. The charcuterie plate and cheese plate was really great too. We were up to having a bit more fun than our server was up for, but nevertheless, we will be back!

Love this place
We love Rye. We have been coming since it opened, but this last visit, the food was the best I have ever had it there. Everything was pretty much perfect.

The food was fantastic and the service was spot on. I really enjoyed my first experience at Rye. We got the tripled fried french fries, a salad and the steak. For two people the bill was $100.

RYE continues to be one of the best places to dine. Fab drinks, food and service. What else can I say?
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Food but Too Loud
We had dinner at Rye after attending Nulu Festival. Our food was fantastic, and our server was great. Good suggestions and attentive without being overwhelming. Our only complaint was we couldn't hear each other without yelling. Two of our group were hoarse when we left. Figure out a way to tone it down, please.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Oh what a night.
So we were going to see Vince Gill and decided, based on reviews in the paper, to try the restaurant RYE before the concert. Our first time there. Wow! From start to finish the place was exemplery. The place was immaculate and very clean and had a nice comfortable ambiance. Our server, Katherine, led the way, explaining about the place, the chef and her menu favorites. We chose wine, mussels for starters, my wife had the duck confit and I had the braised beef. Our sides included butternut rissoto and also brussel sprouts. We savored each item till there was none left. Superb food! Couldn't leave any behind.
Bottom line: excellent find, great food service and ambiance. Our new destination point!

Jackpot Dining..... wonderful!!
This place was an absolute gem. The menu is beautiful and not stuffy. Everything is locally sourced and many ingredients grown just outside in the parking lot!! I had several dietary restrictions that they were super accommodating with and everything was absolutely delicious. The pricing was very reasonable (100 for a couple with appetizers and drinks). It is definitely a must go place if in Louisville and we will definitely be going back soon.

Great food and service
My husband and I really enjoyed our first dining experience at Rye. The service was very efficient and the food was wonderful. Hope to return soon.

You've got to try the Arctic Char!!
Started w/the Santa Anita. A margarita w/ jalapeño telquila & hellfire bitters. Loved the kick that grew as you drank, but it was not the best choice of drink for my entree. I got the Arctic char and it was amazing! Light and flaky w/ an amazing buttery citrus sauce! The heat in my drink was a little too much for this dish. My friend got the braised beef and it was melt in your mouth delicious! We ended w/ the pressed coffee & two desserts . Fat Elvis was a deconstructed chocolate, banana, peanut butter, salted caramel plate of heaven! And we got the Build me up Buttercup with butterscotch anglaise, shortcake, huckleberry sauce and pecan toffee. The crunchy, buttery toffee really made the dish. Another amazing dinner at Rye! Thanks!

Dinner was very nice and intimate
Dinner was very nice and intimate but one huge recommendation is to order "Fat Elvis" for dessert. Just amazing!!

Group of 3 - Great night!
Had the salmon on menu and it was absolutely cooked perfectly and fresh. Everyone at the table commented on how good their entree was and wish we would have had room for desert, but maybe next time.

Great staff, amazing food, to-die-for dessert. Overall great experience, definitely coming back again.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Four of us went to dinner here on Friday night. We were seated right away. Menu was limited and server was quick to advise there were no specials that evening. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with a more minimalist approach. We ordered mussels and oysters on half shell as an app, both of which were wonderful. The salmon was delicious and the Brussel sprouts were the best!
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was fantastic, but
The food was fantastic, but the service was lacking. We didn't really feel welcome and like our presence was a burden.

Rye is a great addition to NuLu
Rye keeps the NuLu theme of locovorism. However, it has the same limitation due to this theme. The menus are short and ever changing. The menus are tied to the vegetables that are in season. At first this may discourage some restaurant goers, but here is where Rye meets the challenge. Rye will make you eat your Brussels sprouts they are full of flavor. They also have an incredible talent of putting together items, which individually may not appear to appease, to create a great experience. At the moment, my favorites are the Sweet Potato Toast, the fresh bread, and the red wine braise meat. The price tag prevents it from becoming a frequent place, but definitely worth going for the experience.

Rye would your wait to dine here?
Louisville, a top ten foodie town (Ville?!) has so many great restaurants it is hard to do them all. Especially when you become enamored with one, as we have with Rye. Always exceptional, even in da 'Ville. Try it.....

Good solid food
First off - Pork belly small plate - it was fantastic. My wife and I went for dinner on a Saturday night. Place seemed steady but we had reservations so we didn't have to wait for a table. Drink menu was good. Food menu was equally good. It is not an extensive menu filled with a lot of puff and fancy food lingo. The menu hits the basics, it has some small plates, entrees that hit various proteins and some nice vegetable sides. I had salmon and it was delicious. My wife had the beef and thought it equally good. We didn't have room for dessert so we bought beers for the beards. You'll know what it means when you go enjoy your next dinner.

Foodie Place For Hipsters
My wife and I had been wanting to try Rye for a while. First let me say the food was outstanding. I guess we just aren't the "hipster foodies" we thought we were. First, the menu is limited with fewer than 10 entree's to select from and they are all quite unusual, especially with the listed ingredients. We didn't know exactly what some things were. This can be a good thing if you are into trying new things, but made ordering a little difficult. Second, the prices seemed a bit high, compared to other Louisville restaurants that we have really enjoyed and we think are of comparable "foodie" quality. I thought the cocktail prices were particularly high. I am sure we will try Rye again, after we have tried a few other places first.

Fine Dining; Laid Back Atmosphere
If you want a white-tablecloth experience, this isn't the restaurant for you. But if you want good food, and think it's fine that the servers wear jeans, then try Rye. Hubby had salmon, which was cooked perfectly. I had the duck leg confit. I'm a sucker for a good duck and it's hard to come by. This was yummy and I especially liked the heirloom carrots and baby turnips with it. Dessert was the "Fat Elvis" which the hubby likened to a de-constructed Butterfinger bar. Add some salted caramel powder and macerated bananas, and that's probably accurate.
I don't think I'd choose Rye for an occasion where ambiance is important. A great choice for a fine dining/casual atmosphere evening, though.
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was great.
The beer list is craft in cans, which is fine, but the prices were more than I wanted to pay for what I'd get, so I opted to try one of their signature mixed drinks for a couple dollars more. I forget the name, but it had Bulleit and was garnished with orange peel and candied ginger. Mixed drinks are usually not my thing, but it was good if a little bitter (orange peel I think).
The Brussels sprouts were amazing. The salmon dish was cooked perfectly and was a decent portion.
Wish I'd had enough room for dessert.
With one drink each, an appetizer, a couple shared sides and two entrees, a meal for two came to a little over $100 +tip.
A little pricy for me but worth it.
Service was exceptional.
