Noise spoils this restaurant
Food is tasty and made-to-order. All pastas are made in-house and there is a nice selection of dishes. My husband's entree was a delicious meat sauce that the owner informed us was cooked for many hours; my tortolinni was more spinach than cheese and that made it more flavorful. Because the dishes are made-to-order service is a little slow. It is unpleasantly noisy. I would definitely return.

Support this Lincoln Square gem
Another very satisfying meal! Due Lire is a clear cut above the other Italian restaurants in the Lincoln Square area. We enjoyed a terrific light and creamy mushroom soup that really surprised us. The fresh mushroom flavor was finely balanced with a lightly foamed creamy soup. The texture and flavor made this dish a real delight. The pasta is made fresh and the wine list is solid. Highly recommended for those who appreciate well executed Italian fare.

Enjoyed the food very much.
Enjoyed the food very much.
We had a 7pm reservation on Friday night. For the first part of our meal, the noise level was moderate. Later two tables were seated, one with three exuberant women and one with two couples. The noise level went through the roof. Some noise deadening curtains or panels would help greatly.
We would still go back, but probably on a quieter week night.

A welcoming space with excellent
A welcoming space with excellent food. This evening was a celebration for a friend's birthday, and though we were a late night six top in this intimate space, we were never rushed. The food was fantastic, and our server was warm, knowledgeable and humorous. We've enjoyed every meal we have had here, and last night was excellent as well.

Dining al fresco
I have been coming to Due-Lire for nearly two years, and the owner, kitchen staff, and servers never fail to impress me. The food is rustic, flavorful, and downright delicious! The wine list is just right, and will appeal to all price points (if you can, the Recchia Amarone is divine!). Massimo, the owner, is friendly and completely down-to-earth, he really makes the restaurant along with the wonderfully comedic but knowledgeable wait staff. A must try, especially now that they have their patio open! It will remind you of a Northern Italian farmhouse and you will not want to leave.

We've been coming here for a few years and just love it. We always have a terrific meal. Homemade pasta to die for coupled with great antipasto, salads and amazing bread make this one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Chicago. Service is really friendly and they have a reasonably priced wine list with plenty of nice pairings for the menu. Bravo Due Lire!

Very good....but slow
Food is very good. The patio was packed on Saturday night because it was so beautiful out. We waited for quite a while for our apps. Fried calamari were excellent. No need for the crostini. Really just a thick slice of Italian bread with cheese and zucchini on top. I wouldn't order that the next time. We waited again a while for our main courses. I think the kitchen was very busy because of the patio. We had delightful main courses. I had the flat iron steak and my husband ordered the white fish. The semi freddo for dessert was outstanding. We'll definitely be back.

We live near Due Lire and go there often. The owner and staff are warm, friendly, and helpful with menu choices. The food is consistently excellent. We go with our kids (one of whom is vegetarian and very picky), and have always found terrific choices for all of us.

Great for sharing
Great handmade pastas, apps are outstanding! We didn't get a secondi, the primi were enough for the table.
A fun place to eat classic, but modern Italian foods

Small but mighty
It's not a large space, but they make the most of it. Very good Italian food and well worth the trip. Have no complaints about the service, though we had an early dinner on a Saturday night and they were not terribly busy.

Always a Pleasure
Due Lire never disappoints. A fantastic wine list and menu, excellent service, and a wonderfully comfortable neighborhood feel. One of our favorite places!

The service and food at Due Lire is always consistently great!! I tried the outdoor patio for the first time and it is charming; like sitting in your backyard - cozy!

Good vibe, great food
Small place, small portions, as a whole was a great dining experience, the owner was super friendly and you can tell he takes pride in his business, had a 7:00 pm reservation booked it online the day before arrived at 6:50 was sat dawn immediately, their were three other walk ins and my girlfriend and I were sat on time, I know that's not a big deal to some but it was one of many of the little things this place did right. Food was excellent, the wait staff was friendly and helpful to new diners. Price was a little high for a smaller size portion but overall I would most certainly come again and I will defiantly recommend this place to others.

Due Lire's gnocchi are exactly the way described on the TV channel web site...pillows You need to try them. This is not your "good ol' neighborhood Italian restaurant with the old parmagiano warhorses. This is cuisine. My wife had the ravioli and we shared the veal meatball appetizers...all phenomenally flavorful.
Our food server was fantastic...knowledgeable about all the wines and about wines in general. She helped us with food options, very knowledgeable about how everything was prepared, and of course she did an excellent job of pacing the meal...her name is Suzi (sp), she's great. The price/value was great....my price rating did not include the wine.
Not for children or groups larger than 6 people.

Very tasty and hospitable Italian
Went there for a casual birthday celebration with 4 friends. Everything was delicious. The waiter was chatty, but in a casual, charming , and attentive way. It's a bit pricey, as everything is a la carte, but definitely worth the price. As is often the case these days, the appetizers outshone the entrees, but only by a little bit. The semifreddo desert was scrumptious.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had Cheese Fritters, Veal Meatballs, Beet Salad, Spinach Salad, Gnocchi, Ravioli, and an Apple Tarts with 4 different wine parings. All were delicious.

small but mitey menu
Due lire's menu is creative, blending traditional and inventive. Food is always flavorful and nicely balanced. Great neighborhood addition.

Due Lire is 2nd to None
Outstanding service and food. The owner is on-site and it shows. Very fresh ingredients expertly prepared. Eggplant appetizer is ambrosia! Salads are well balanced - the arugula is so peppery with just the right amount of Parmesan and dressing. Pastas are perfect - as noted by others, the gnocchi is light and fluffy. The malfade is soooo yummy - just the right amount of sauce on the noodles. The whitefish is my favorite secondi, although we have tried them all and they are all great. The outdoor patio is beautiful on a cool evening. Wines by the glass show good variety, as do the bottles. Lively dining room!
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have been regulars since they opened, and we love this place. Great food, friendly and helpful service, a gracious owner...what more could you ask for? The prices are reasonable and the wine list has plenty of nice, moderately priced choices.

Due Lire Worth Mille Lire!
What a gem. Innovative menu. Great service. After ten minutes our entire group said "we have to come back -- again, and again"

Great Time Had by All
A perfect place for dinner with friends on the patio. Gracious service, delicious food, and a lovely outdoor space. The potato dumplings are as good as the recent review on Ch. 7 reported. The oxtail ragu has authentic Italian flavor.

Lovely patio dining
What a wonderful place to spend an evening! Their patio dining is superb. Show up and settle in for excellent food and an evening under the stars! From appetizers to dessert, the food was exceptional. Lots of special touches. However, entrees were slow leaving the kitchen. We had probably a 30-45 minute delay between salads and entrees. But, it was such a nice evening, we didn't mind and our server was gracious about the delay.

Nice little place with small, but varied menu.
Calamari was tasty.
Spinach/Finocchio salad was very good, but not big enough to split.
Oxtail gnocchi was flavorful and ample portion.

Perfect night at Due Lire
We were celebrating 2 birthdays and chose Due Lire-the appetizers were fresh and delicious as was the trout! Our waitress knew every ingredient in every food offered -the night was perfect as we enjoyed this summer weather and sat on the back patio. Great wine! Great food! Great waitress! We all tried something different and it did not disappoint! I can't wait to go back! Our business is down the street and we can't believe how long it took us to find this restaurant!

First time at Due Lire, staff
First time at Due Lire, staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We went on a Sunday evening, not crowded and was not rushed. Enjoyed food choices that were not the usual Italian offerings.
Will return for another meal.

Holds its own with the neighbors!
Everyone is warm and welcoming. The patio is enjoyable when the weather is right. Service is knowledgeable and takes care of what needs taking care of. Nice wine list by the glass as well as bottle (although no chianti by the glass? Shame!) Decent variety of dishes to choose from in all categories. Only drawback in my mind is that many of the dishes are heavy/rich which I'm not really in the mood for in hot August. But they all tasted great (wonderful pasta textures) and portions were more than adequate. Will return!
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Consistently high quality.
This is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the city. Unpretentious but excellent quality overall.

Great authentic locally owned Italian restaurant with a great menu and wine list. If the weather is nice, their back patio is delightful. Massimo the owner brings his mother's Italian kitchen for your enjoyment!

Second Excellent Meal at DueLira
This was our second time at DueLira, and it did not disappoint.
We were seated in the garden and it was lovely. Our server Kelly had waited on us the first time and he even remembered the food we had ordered!
This time he selected a Spanish wine and it was excellent, full bodied and spicy. There were 5 of us. We shared mussels, fried calamari and the burrata with artichokes for appetizers. Delicious, as were the salads. For entrees, 4 of us had the gnocchi with oxtail ragu, and one had the whitefish. All I can say is AMAZING! I have never had gnocchi that delicious. All of us had clean plates.
We cannot wait to have another meal at Due Lira! Yum.

Consistent quality & great service
Due Lire never disappoints. Seated at their intimate patio and received the usual amazing service from both our waitress and the owner. This visit, the Mela salad – a wonderful combination of fresh tastes from the fennel, celery apples and percorino. The Gnocchi, - a far cry from the heavy, tasteless doughy dumplings I’ve had elsewhere – light, delicious and wonderful with the oxtail ragu. Praise too for the mussels, and the calamari. We finished with a delicious crème brulee and a great selection of coffees. Wine list is well-chosen with something for everyone. Although there are new restaurants all the time in Lincoln Square, Due Lire is holding its own with consistent quality, a delicious and imaginative menu and a great welcome.

Nice Italian Eatery
Due Lire on a Friday evening can get very busy. Service was attentive and the pacing of all of the courses was perfect. The highlight of the meal was the Mela Salad, the combination of flavors (apples, dates, cheese, arugula, celery and fennel) was a bright well balanced composition of sweet and salty. Other favorites were the Ravioli made with Short Ribs and the Apple Tart topped with Vanilla Gelato. We shared the Fritelle Appetizer, Mela Salad, and desert, then had an individual serving of pasta. Both parties left feeling satisfied without being over full.

Another great neighborhood place
Took a friend from out of town on Saturday. We sat outside (perfect with heaters) and enjoyed a great meal. Everything was delicious - the calamari with fried lemon, capers and sage was great, as were both our pasta dishes. And all priced reasonably (they charge for boar ragu what others charge for basic sauce). And great Italian wine list. Another great showcase of our neighborhood!

Favorite italian spot!
Due Lire has wonderful food! The flavors and food combinations are so delicious, the portions are just right and there is a good selection of wine. The entire staff is exceptional: friendly, attentive and efficient. The ambiance is just what I would hope for in a favorite neighborhood spot. The only negative I can think of is that the noise level can get too loud when a large party is seated up
front near the windows . . . the glass really bounces the sound. I've eaten at Due Lire many times and each time the quality and experience has been outstanding!
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
A new favorite...
I don't give out accolades to Italian restaurants easily, but the food at Due Lire is downright amazing, especially for a small, neighborhood restaurant. I've dined there twice now, and both times both me and the person I was dining with have loved, and I mean LOVED, everything we've ordered. The polenta with mushroom ragu --yum!, The crostini with thinly sliced zucchini marinated in balsamic and taleggio is not to be missed. The subtle flavoring of a recent seafood brodetto special was out of this world.
If the food weren't enough, the owner is super gracious, friendly, and very helpful with the wine selections.
I can't wait to go back.

Due Lire - Great spot in Lincoln Sq
The beet salad wasn't anything to speak of, but the olives were fantastic. Great Pasta (the Gnochhi and the Cappellacci were both outstanding). Both of our desserts were disappointing (the flourless chocolate cake and the apple tart). Overall it doesn't take away from our experience too much, because the Pastas were so good and the service was so excellent. Our server was as good as good as it gets. She was great. I think her name was Suzi. And the timing of everything was perfect. My only complaint with regard to the service would be that one of the bussers sprayed my arm (which was holding my wine glass) with cleaning spray pretty substantially when she went to wipe down the table next to ours. I didn't use that glass again.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
I went to Due Lire three years ago when it first opened and was BYOB. Last weekend was my first visit back since and I can't say enough good things. We had three pasta dishes at our table and each one was so fresh and flavorful. The charcuterie (sp) board was fantastic, as was the burrata (sp) mozzerella special. You can tell this food is made with care and to ensure that it is spot on with flavors. Go - you won't regret it!
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
As above. The menu choices are unusual but uniformly well executed and served. This was our third visit, and the excellent quality of the meal has been maintained over repeated visits. One of our favorite restaurants, anywhere. Service is also outstanding, knowledgeable and informative and saw promptly to any needs we may have had.
Most highly recommended.

Due Lire is really a great find. All the pasta is homemade and made w/love. The service is top notch. We let our server Kristen order for us and everything we had was delicious.

Nice neighborhood restaurant
We've been here many times and always find the food very good. This time wasn't exception (although I did think my main dish was a little too salty). The wine menu is very good. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to provide some additional guidance on for the glass selections.
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM

Outstanding appetizers and salads. The meal was a bit overpriced for what was presented. Very small dining area...making the seating feel cramped and a bit uncomfortable. We will probably return to give it another try...but I would not recommend the Bolognese spaghetti...or the lemon-pepper ribboned shrimp dish.
