European atmosphere/Great Food
Beautifully appointed restaurant - great lay-out of tables and chairs. Love the wood tables! Wonderful menu. Different flavors than the typically- fancy restaurants in the La Jolla area. Healthy tasting with fresh ingredients. Chef takes it easy on the salt, which accentuates the flavors of the herbs and makes the food more palatable to the tongue! Perfect setting for any celebratory occasion. Quiet atmosphere with an elegant flair and fine food! Not rushed either, but not so slow that you need to reach for the bread basket! Great food!!! Beautiful restaurant! Planning to return soon!

The food, wine and cocktails
The food, wine and cocktails were very good. Service was a bit spotty - forgot limes for the vodka tonic and took awhile to bring them. Slow with appetizers and then the meal came zooming out quickly.
Decor is not to my liking- too dark and foreboding almost.

A magnificant setting
What a gorgeous new restaurant in La Jolla. The service was impeccable, food was beautifully presented and delicious. Don't forget to try the mini corn & jalapeno muffins.

Second time's the charm
We gave Amaya La Jolla a second chance after a disappointing first experience with poor service. No complaints at all this time, only praise. They've tweaked the menu a bit and our party of 5 each got different appetizers and entrees so we did lots of tasting. Everything was superb. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and AVAILABLE. All the staff went out of their way to be helpful. We'll be back.

Always spot on
This restaurant has it all. Great wine, service and especially food. The menu has something for everyone. Exciting progressive dishes or more traditional fare for the less adventurous type. I've never been disappointed here and the prices are very reasonable considering the ambiance and experience.

Lived up to it's reputation!
Amaya La Jolla was all it had been touted to be as the sister restaurant to it's main location at the Grand Del Mar. The décor was beautiful, service outstanding, and food incredible. Just enjoying the day boat scallop and short rib and chili-lime shrimp with an incredible wine was the perfect pre-theatre treat.

Best dining in La Jolla. This
Best dining in La Jolla. This restaurant has everything you could want if you're in to actually dining. The service is awesome, the food extrodinary. Live music. Great wine list. There's not an ocean view but who cares, you're in a beach town. Go to the beach, look at the water then go have a real dining experience. Real flavor, not dishes that look good but have no substance. Had an heirloom tomato salad that was out of this world. Spicy shrimp was perfect. Beef had the most amazing red wine sauce ever and the salmon was smokey and so tender. This place is not to be missed.

We would like to have sat
We would like to have sat outside but were told we couldn't have a cocktail out there. We sat right by the window so it was almost like being outside. Our food was very good and we were impressed. Wehad been to Amaya at the Grand Delmar and liked that as well.

New Gem in La Jolla
I was visiting relatives in La Jolla and ate out many times over a week. This new restaurant was our favorite. The decor is elegant; the service excellent; quiet ambience for conversation; and most important - the food was great! We shared a quail appetizer and one that was an interesting combo of scallop and short rib. I had the sea bass prepared 2 ways. Delicious! When we get back to the area I will definitely go again.
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
The staff were extremely polite and very knowledgeable of the menu and wine list.
The Pork Chop was outstanding.

food good-decor old
The food was wonderful, but the decor makes you feel like you are in teh 1960s-very old world.

Amaya is delicious
We loved our dinner. The wine and beer list was well rounded, the service attentive, knowledgeable and professional and all the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend it!
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
We are a bit spoiled by San Francisco restaurants but Amaya exceeded our expectations. The service was just perfect-our waiter was attentive w/o hovering and quite knowledgable. The food, from the bread to the desert was delicious, well-prepared and beautifully presented. Amaya gave us one of the best meals we have had in months. This is a real gem!

A welcome addition to La Jolla!
Excellent food, fresh and creatively prepared, sophisticated and comfortable environment and a superb sommelier! A thoroughly enjoyable evening. We're looking forward to our next visit!
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything from the sincere welcoming to the fond farewell was excellent. We had questions and the service staff members were knowledgeable and ready to answer; making a the first date dinner a memorial occasion.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
We are long-term fans of the Del Mar Amaya, and found this to be every bit as good. Excellent service; quiet, romantic setting; and delicious short ribs. Will definitely return!
9/6/2013 5:00:00 PM
Special attention was given to our needs at the table. Wine Steward Andrew was attentive and informative with our wine selection. We were celebrating a birthday and all servers were attentive in our requests.

Went for dinner with friends.
Went for dinner with friends. Excellent unobtrusive service and quiet pleasant environment. Octopus appetizer was great as was heirloom tomato salad and portions were more than generous. Main courses of fried chicken with smoked Mac and cheese, lobster pot pie were delicious. Pork chop was superb, large and juicy and perfectly cooked. We will be back.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
In a word, the food at Amaya was great! Because my party dined there fairly early for lunch, the restaurant wasn't crowded so service was very good. The menu isn't large but it covers all the basics for carnivores or vegetarians or picky eaters. The shrimp & grits are a must try!!

Restaurant Week Blowout
Tried Amaya for lunch during restaurant week and was very pleasantly surprised. The Cuban sandwich and shrimp salad were a bargain for $20.00. We managed to snag a parking space across from the restaurant, but parking could be expensive and troublesome.
9/14/2013 5:00:00 PM
fresh delicious food in quiet
the interior was a bit old-fashion but the quiet ambience and excellent service help to focus on the fresh taste. I am planning to take my parents to Amaya La Jolla when they visit me. this place is good for groups.

SDRW Fall 2013
It was an ok experience with some of the shortcomings out of the restaurant's control. That said, I would give this place another go.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
It happened to be Restaurant Week and the special for $40 was such a fine variety of appetizer, main dish and dessert.
It was a memorable meal for my birthday and I particularly enjoyed the personalized white chocolate Happy Birthday decoration on my lemon tart dessert.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
I dined here based on a recommendation from a friend, who had dined at the location in Del Mar. The menu was creative, incorporating such items as basil sorbet in the caprese salad. The wine list was extensive and impressive by San Diego standards. The service was very attentive as well. Personally, ambience does not weigh highly on my decision to dine at one place or another. Food and wine are of the utmost importance to me. However, Amaya's interior is truly beautiful. From the marble floors to the elegant trim, it is obvious that great care went into the decor of this restaurant. I will definitely be back! Thank you Amaya for a wonderful experience.

Restaurant Week Gem
At times when dining during Restaurant Week we have felt rushed by the waiter. Not so with Amaya La Jolla. The service was excellent and the food was delicious, with very full portions. We chose the wine pairing and were extremely happy with the choices. Great ambience as well. We highly recommend Amaya La Jolla.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
A great addition to the Village
Checked it out for lunch before having dinner -- both meals were very good, and the service friendly and attentive. Timing is everything and the chef has nailed the perfect shrimp at lunch on the salad and at dinner as an appetizer. This is quite a large venue, yet very lovely.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went to lunch on a sunny La Jolla day and magically entered what seemed like a wonderful restaurant in New York. The service was polished, the food was delicious and interesting and thoughtfully prepared with real flair. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food but stuffy ambience
Food was excellent but if this had not been a fixed price menu for restaurant week it would have been a bit overpriced. Service is good but decor is very stuffy.

Wonderful relaxing dinner
Wonderful relaxing dinner to celebrate our anniversary.

for something completely different
Not what you would expect in La Jolla Village, but if you are a fan of the Grand Del Mar, then this is home for you. The decor is beautiful, but a little out of place. The service is impeccable, and that is never out of place. Nice wine list with excellent options you don't see very often at various price points. Food was good, not great. I had duck, wife had lamb. We paired it with an excellent Pinot. We started with a couple of nice salads - the butter lettuce - dressed well but not over dressed. Finished the evening with a nice slice of pecan pie and some coffees. All told, we'll be back and explore more delights on their menu. Oh, they also have a club with live music on the weekends, so this is simply a nice evening out.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
The staff is very attentive polite courteous, wine selection is very good, the food was excellent. Great for a quiet dinner and a walk down prospect street in LaJolla.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food ; elegant setting
This was the first time I and my friends had dined at this beautiful restaurant and we were all delighted with the experience. The restaurant decor is elegant yet comfortable in an Old World sort of way. The staff was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. The food was amazing. I had the Duo of Beef while one of my friends had the pork chop and the other had the vegetarian option of the quinoa platter. The restaurant is a bit pricey (though par for dining in La Jolla, I think) but the food and ambience were well worth it.
10/14/2013 12:00:00 AM

Food was good but a bit rich. Beautiful place but
a little pretentious. Was not very crowded on a
Friday night. Very good service.

Wow...You have to try this place!
Amaya La Jolla…WOW!!! Our first dining experience at this restaurant…service was great…knowledgeable staff but not stuffy…made us feel very comfortable. The food is wonderful…a combining of comfort foods with an intricate added flair. We had several rounds of appetizers (simply let the waiter and sommelier choose for us and we loved everything they offered us). Amaya also has a cool lounge in the back of the restaurant which had a live band playing the night we were there. Overall, a great dining experience and the lounge was an added bonus!
10/18/2013 5:00:00 PM
We visited Amaya for lunch and it was not crowded so not noisy. It would be a beautiful location for a special occasion. We all had the hamburger which was good; however, I did not like the seasoning or maybe it was flavored salt on the french fries. Also, the coffee is pricey at $6.00 a cup.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
I can't recall going having better service and quality of food anywhere. The staff was thoroughly knowledgeable on the wine list and menu. For an anniversary dinner, you can't get much better than this. Thanks Andrew and staff at Amaya for our anniversary a special night.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
A FAVORITE OF OURS
WE'VE DINED HERE TWICE FOR BOTH LUNCH AND DINNER. TRULY ONE OF THE NICEST RESTAURANTS IN SAN DIEGO.
THE FOOD AND SERVICE ARE BOTH EXCELLENT. WE TREATED A FRIEND FOR HER BIRTHDAY AND SHE WAS SURPRISED BY RECEIVING A WONDERFUL COMPLIMENTARY CHOCOLATE TORTE FOR DESSERT.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
I had been wanting to come to this restaurant since it opened. My husband and I went there to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant itself is very beautiful, the service was great and the food was outstanding. My husband had the duck and said it was the best he had ever eaten I had the lobster pot pie. It was stuffed with huge portions of lobster with a very delicate topping. We both had desserts - my husband's was a chocolate dish which he loved and I had the creme brulee(s). Yes, there were three little pots of different types, one chocolate, one butterscotch and the other regular creme brulee. They would have been enough for three people. We will definitely come back and I have already recommended it to several people.
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
The cheese tray was delicious, as was the tomato soup. I also recommend the sangria, perfect for a fall lunch.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
Always enjoy Amaya in La Jolla for the power lunch or a romantic evening. They really know how to treat a customer and never disappoint!!
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
we really enjoyed the beauty of the restaurant, the excellent food as well as excellent service.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Hands down one of the best meals I've had, and definitely the best meal I've eaten in San Diego. I read a few reviews about this restaurant opening, and had to try. The service was over the top. It felt like we had our own personal sommelier, and the chef even paid a visit to our table! Usually in a review I list the highlights and low points, but EVERYTHING was superb. The duck for my entree, words can't even describe. Let's just say I probably won't eat duck anywhere else but here. I tried the skate wing and sweetbreads, so tender and flavorful. I think I've found the best restaurant in San Diego! My friends were blown away as well and we are still talking about the food. Will definitely return and will probably become a regular.

Sets a new standard in La Jolla
The new Amaya restaurant is outstanding; setting a new standard for dining in La Jolla.
With its elegant appointments, subdued lighting, experienced waiters, an outstanding chef's menu selections, a number of different settings in the main area, several private meeting/dining rooms, evening valet service and a separate bar with nightly entertainment; Amaya is perfect for both business and personal dining, and must be considered for special occasions for locals

Just can't get enough!
It's official. This is my favorite restaurant in all of San Diego. This visit I tried the fried chicken special. Crispy, juicy, flavorful. Haven't had good fried chicken like that since I left Georgia. The mac & cheese, delicious. I tried my friend's Branzini, and I know what I'll be ordering on my next visit. Once again, service was impeccable. We even had the same sommelier, and he remembered me. Made me feel like a VIP. His pairings were fantastic as well. For dessert, the chocolate torte was moist and rich, but not too heavy. Just perfect. I'm anxiously awaiting my next visit.
