A Seafood Find.....
Great seafood dishes in halibut, whole red snapper and sea scallops.
Very good wait staff.

My wife had halibut; I had scallops. Both entres were excellent as was the garden salad with fruit. Our French-named L'server was very friendly and helpful. The Cabernet by the glass selections and an unsightly gouge in the ceiling plaster were the only disappointments. Both these issues can be easily fixed.

Amazing Ambiance & Good Food
The ambiance in regards to decor and lighting was the best I have ever experienced. Food was excellent and my fiance made note that the wine list was good. Over all, pleasant evening.

what an awesome treat
My wife and I scheduled a reservation August 10th at 1930. my wife and i drove up from Atlanta. the restaurant was extremely clean and we loved its eclectic appeal. the restaurant is not too big nor too small. There was a full house that night and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. our food was beyond great. i had the scallops and grits and my wife had the steak and potatos. service here is relaxed but we didn't mind because it gave us time to soak in the ambience and chat. The food was soooo good. we will visit again really really soon. Much thanx

My New Fav Rest in Chattanooga
The food and drinks were honestly amazing. Truly a completely different dining experience than your normal upscale restaurants. If you're looking for great food with a twist that's different from the normal filet and fish you get at the other restaurants..this is the place. Must try the "In Country" with cucumber vodka, watermelon, and cayenne pepper drink. I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. My wife and I will be back soon.

Our New Favorite Restaurant!
The food was insanely good! So creative and excellently prepared. Our waiter was fun and friendly and knowledgeable. The chef came out and met us because she was so impressed at the huge spread of food we ordered and ate every bit of. This is by far our favorite Chattanooga restaurant. And the prices were so reasonable. It was worth every penny. Sometimes I have buyers remorse after spending money on a fancy dinner, but these prices were totally fair and we will be going back! Can't wait to try the Sunday brunch.

Bacon to die for!
Been to Terra Mae 3 times and will continue to visit.
So far Ive tried the following three itemds for lunch: Grilled Cheese, Appalacian Lunchable and BLT. They were all very good (the BLT with optional egg on top although a beautiful sight to behold and tasty was difficult to eat by hand).
Everything was fresh and superb including coconut cake with ice cream which was top notch.
But You cant go to Terra Mae without at least one bite of their great bacon. Truely worth a visit.

Took awhile to make it to this gem of a restraunt, because it was hard to give up on the old favorites for the 1/month romantic date night. However once we walked in ( didn't use the complementary valet) the ambiance was impressive. A quaint little bar to have a pre-dinner cocktail was manned by two very personable bartenders. They have some very interesting recommended adult beverages that involve some spices, bitters, and complex flavors. Open seating was spaced far enough away that you didn't feel the table next to you was far enough away that they didn't seem on top of you.
3 out of the four main courses were very good, and the service was excellent. Would definitely go back and get any of the filet again. The walnut pie was crazy good.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
From interesting, fun, and delicious cocktails to wonderful salads and farm-fresh, thoughtfully prepared and assembled entrees, this restaurant is a must visit. The staff is inviting, friendly, and attentive. Terramae is a gem for Chattanooga!
P.S. the bread pudding is among the best I've ever eaten.

Fresh and Flavorful
Two of my friends and I drove up from Atlanta to Chattanooga for a lecture and thought Terramae sounded like an interesting place to try out. The food was excellent, all three of us enjoyed our main courses...half rack of lamb, scallops wrapped in bacon and halibut. We also tried two of the sides..succatosh and the Vidalia Onion/Biscuit/Buttermilk Bake...again winning dishes. The only thing that was a disappointment was how long it took for the food to be prepared. We arrived right at 5pm, allowing a little over an hour to eat before we had to head to our event. Our food took 50 minutes to be prepared and was served without an apology for the long wait which seemed excessive. We had to rush through our meal and didn't have time for dessert.
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was a dinner meeting that we were attending. Shortly after we arrived our appetizers were brought to us, which were amazing. Our food was wonderful. This was a first time for some of our visitors and they really enjoyed. We will come back again.
9/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
We came to celebrate a special occasion and this venue was very nice. Beautiful old building with harm. Background music could have been a little more consistent with the era. Mixologist was great. Food good and a nice selection available.

We always pick a new place
We always pick a new place to dine on our birthdays, and this was my pick. Tonya had the Quail and veggies and enjoyed it very much. The wine list offered good choices, and we had the Gascon Malbec, a good balanced wine to go with her quail and my steak.
I had the Steak and Potatoes, an 8 oz. filet, twice baked potatoes and mild greens. The twice baked potatoes and greens were delicious. The filet was prepared to perfection - but having worked many years on an organic farm I wish the restaurant offered a grass-fed option -- grain fed beef is more tender, but lacks the burst of flavor of grass-fed beef.
The only negative - we were seated at a wobbly table. Otherwise, this might have been a five-star experience all around.

Great for Sunday Brunch
We went for sunday brunch and the food was excellent. The menu looked amazing and we were only able to order so much. I would definitely go back here again.

Lovely Night Out
We tried this restaurant when it first opened and it was a disaster. Literally there for four hours, several of our party never got food. They did give us a bottle of wine, but that hardly made up for the evening. Then we understood they had a new chef in so we thought we give it another try. She is marvelous. Presentation of the food is spectacular and you can tell that this chef knows what she's doing and takes delight in it. Almost all of the vegetables served comes from the owner's garden in Nashville, so everything is truly garden fresh. We had were rack of lamb, bacon wrapped scallops and flounder that was wonderful. Highly recommend you give it a try (or a retry if you ate there before and vowed never to go back again.

Best in Chattanooga?
Second time I have eaten there, both in the past week. Food, ambiance and service would play well in Atlanta, Nashville or Dallas. Great restaurant for Chattanooga. Well worth putting into the rotation for any local that likes to dine out.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went twice while in Chattanooga and I think it was a mistake not to go a few more times. On both occasions the food was excellent. The rack of lamb was superb, the grit cakes, amazing, and the walnut pie was unbelievable. Both waiters were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. To top it off, they did a nice job of tapping into the Appalachian theme by playing a nice variety of folk music. I don't know when I'll be in Chattanooga again but I'll definitely be going back to this place if I ever make it over there again.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a luncheon for a group of five people who do not get together very often. My lunch did not feel very fresh. The toast of my egg salad sandwich was slightly older than same day freshness. There was so much dill in the egg salad I could barely taste the egg. The tomato and the fruit was beautiful and tasted wonderful! The knife would not cut through the sandwich...had to work way too hard to be able to eat. These are things I would have spoken to the staff about and gotten something else to eat had I not been with this group of friends. I would recommend for the atmosphere and the wait staff (he was very attentive), as well as the possibility that today's meal was a fluke!
Do not plan on valet parking, it was not available.

Neighborhood Gem for Sure
Incredible drink menu that changes seasonally. Lots of dinner choices and none disappointed. Appetizers were particularly interesting, including fried oysters, grit balls, sampler platter with seasoned bacon. Soft shell crab and scallop entrees were amazing. What a find!

Food was delicious!
The food was delicious and had large portions. Terrame offered a varied menu which could meet anyone's tastes. We enjoyed our dinner and would happily eat there again. The bison short ribs were excellent!

Southern Fare as Fine Dining- Epic
Where did Chef Shelley Cooper come from? Amazing meal... better than regional favorites Husk and City House. Atlanta's Empire State South is its only competition (which also has its emphasis on Southern fare). This is not the same restaurant we went to when it first opened, as the new chef has raised the bar. If Chef sticks with it, this could become a destination restaurant which will get national press....our meal was THAT good....every element of each dish was perfect. Some minor tweeks in service would round out the package.

Dinner out with Friends
We had a wonderful evening thanks to the always superb food and service at TerraMae. The excellent drinks followed by amazing salads with local ingredients including some of the most amazing goat cheese and dressings. Followed perfectly prepared steaks, Shrimp and Pork belly and Scallops wrapped in Bacon, we simply couldn't have asked for more.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is a wonderful restaurant in Chattanooga. Food is outstanding and prices a little on the high side. Special place for a special occasion. Nice ambience but music a little on the high side for dinner. Consistently good!
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great lunch- Delicious sauces
Had the Appalachian bento box as a starter- every element was outstanding. The sauces on the ravioli and the rabbit pot pie were hearty and wonderful

Excellent Ambrosia Salad
Chef Shelley's salads are beautiful and delicious. A brown butter dressing to finish off the ambrosia salad table side has become a favorite.
Slight changes to the chefs tuna sandwich and oyster apps left us a little less enthusiastic about these dishes when compared with our first encounter with them 2 weeks ago. Still, the oysters were perfectly cooked.

The best in Chattanooga!
I have dined in every restaurant in Chattanooga (worth consideration) multiple times and can say that Terramae is the best in Chattanooga. They have on four separate occasions with different groups provided excellent service, great food, and a wonderful ambience. They have a great cocktail menu combine with a good wine selection, but the food seals the deal. The chef presents a wonderfully imaginative menu and delivers perfectly on each item. This is the restaurant Chattanooga has needed for some time!

A hidden gem in Chattanooga
Terra Mae has raised the bar on food, presentation and ambience in Chattanooga. You won't be disappointed....from their great Sunday Brunch, inventive dinner and lunch menu and farm fresh ingredients, Terra Mae delivers.

My brother highly recommended this restaurant, not only because of the food, but because the chef is a native W TN as we are. It was easy to make reservations online. We did not have to wait, they took us right in for our Friday 7:30pm reservation. It was our first time there and we would recommend it. My wife had the shrimp and grits, and I had the 20 oz ribeye. She said her food was very good, and my steak was tender and wonderful wonderful taste. Our only disappointment was the noise level. There was a private party in the room immediately behind us, and they quite loud, almost to the point that we had to talk loud to each other across the table to converse. Food was great, service excellent, overall a great dining experience.
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
Wow wow wow. Every time a new restaurant opens in Chattanooga, the quality increases. TerraMae is no exception. It is romantic. elegant, and quite close to perfect. My friends, family, and I ordered and tasted nearly everything on the menu, and while we had some easy favorites (lamb and biscuits, butternut squash soup, surf and swine), others (trout, scallops, halibut), though tasty, just did not have the presence as the aforementioned dishes.

Best in Chatt
Because it isnt on a main street it is easy to overlook Terramae. Please dont! Awesome menu that changes seasonally, an awesome seasonal drink list, great wine list and fantastic chef. Feels southern without being hokey, a good representative of Chattanooga's tastes. Great ambience/ lighting. Safe for a date, a meeting, a family or friend get together. Our favorite Chattanooga restaurant.

Food was great, service was excellent. We both drank a Rhett Butler. Called back after we left to get a list of ingredients to make at home. Not only did the person who answered give me the list but walked me through the entire process.

Great Choice For American Cuisine
Locally grown ingredients perfectly prepared and presented. Everything was delicious.

I am normally able to find something I would change about a restaurant. This time, I cannot. The food was exceptional, the service was professional, and the entire experience was well worth the price. We'll be back.

belated bday dinner
Romantic birthday dinner with the wife. She really enjoyed it, as did I. Was a Thursday nite around 6 pm and we had a quiet corner table. No complaints, glad to see more places in Chattanooga are using open table.

The best of Appalachia
The food was just outstanding. Fresh ingredients mixed with traditional local flavor and wonderful creativity. My wife and I truly enjoyed the meals we at at Terramae during our stay in Chattanooga. The staff was very knowledgeable about the menu, the ingredients, and the beverage program. Hats off to the chef, and to the head of the bar program there. They have a fine team. I can't wait until our next trip into town.

A culinary joy-ride
Terra Mae's decor was not overly attractive and the bar was small, but these non-impressive attributes just made our total experience more remarkable. From Justin, the most knowledgable bartender (don't call him a mixologist) I have ever seen, to Steve our totally cool waiter, we were treated to service usually limited to the mega-cities. The menu was a mind blowing selection of items beautifully paired, like bacon wrapped scallops served on truffle risotto, and grilled halibut with pork belly ragout, Appetizers were pieces of art in themselves, and included items like foie gras and duck dumplings. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. It was by far the best restaurant we experienced in our 3 days in the city. Don't miss it!
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Can I do a one word review? We LOVED everything about this restaurant. The food was creative, beautifully plated, and omg, so good!
0ur server was pleasant, remarkably knowledgeable and left you with no doubt he loved his job and he loved Terramae. Best service EVER!
If Terramae was in my area, I would be there everytime the menu changed. If you like out of the ordinary foods, just go!

Terramae has risen to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Chattanooga. The food is delicious and beautifully presented.

phenominal brunch experience
my husband and I had a phenomenal brunch experience here on Sunday morning.... we were only sad that we didn't have the chance to come back and eat dinner there too. Highly reccomend it.

A place to bring out of town guests
Had a very enjoyable meal. Six of us enjoyed five different entrees and two appetizers. All were superbly prepared and nicely presented. In fact, everyone left saying it was a wonderful dining experience. The mulled wine server end to one of the guests was served in a very entertaining heater and tasted very good.

Great Place to Dine!
Although the frequency of visits by the waiting staff could be a little closer together, it was a fabulous dining experience and will return again. The food was great!
11/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
What an extraordinary, beautiful experience! We could not decide which dish of our Thanksgiving dinner was our favorite. Terramae rates in the same category as the exceptional restaurants of New Orleans and San Francisco. The well-balanced, interesting wine list contributed to the sophistication of the cuisine. We will return, with friends!

Thanksgiving lunch at Terramae
This restaurant features Appalachian cuisine and uses
fruits and veggies in season and native to the region.
Cocktails are highly original and are concocted
by a dedicated, imaginative mixologist. This was my first
time here and I was very impressed. From the cream of mushroom
cappuccino, to the apple cider brined turkey to the
pumpkin cheesecake with walnut praline sauce, every
dish was delightful. Service was smooth and delivery of each dish
was just right.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
My husband and I have dined at Terra Mae 3 times. Each time the food was different, yet delicious. The service is great. Servers are friendly and personable. Menu items are unique and may be prepared a little differently than usual. We definitely will eat there again.
