My husband and I have eaten
My husband and I have eaten at The Livery Tavern several times, most recently this past weekend. I had The Huntmans platter which included quail, venison and homemade boars meat sausage. It was very tender and very flavorful. Ordered a bottle of 2005 Italian Barolo, which was over the top wonderful paired with this dish. Chef Reed does a fabulous job with his menu and presentation of food. The fresh, raw oyster app is among the best presentation of raw oysters, with it's Bloody Mary shooter on a bed of coarse sea salt, that I have had the pleasure of eating. Nancy Stewart and her well trained staff will make your dining experience one you won't soon forget!

Located on E Washington Street
Located on E Washington Street in central Lewisburg.
Adequate on-street parking.
We arrived early, around 5:30, because of a 7 pm meeting later that evening. The restaurant was empty but filled rapidly over the next hour. Acoustics were good for quiet conversation in our booth. Bar seemed to be lively, mostly 30-somethings.
Our server Emily was attentive and helpful. My wife and I split fried oyster appetizer. Best fried oysters I have ever eaten. Generally this dish is prepared with way too much breading and is overcooked, but our oysters were on the "rare" side, if they can be described that way, and were delicious. I had trout entree while my wife had the "8-hour ribs." Both were excellent, though the ribs deserve a particular s

Wide ranging menu from trout,
Wide ranging menu from trout, to rabbit, to quail, to chicken, to steak, to spare ribs. The beet salad was excellent. Service was timely but not rushed. Wood floors leave the place a bit noisy particularly if crowded. . But we were in a group of 11 and all received hot food at the same time. Some great high end and moderate wines! Our Decoy Cabernet was excellent and only $50. I would return. Spare rib special was excellent!

Top of our List!
Excellent! Well worth the drive. Gorgeous restaurant with excellent food! Request David for a lovely and memorable evening. We will be definitely going back. Open on Sunday evenings which is also a plus. We had previously enjoyed its sister restaurant, Stella's, and The Livery lived up to our expectations! So wonderful to have this outstanding option in easy driving distance of Charleston!

Tried it for our anniversary
Tried it for our anniversary and it was a delightful evening. Great food, friendly and very knowledgeable server. Lovely interior. A beautiful outdoor deck in the front, but it was raining so we couldn't try it out. Going to a play afterwards and dinner was served in plenty of time to get there without rushing. Will go back again.

This place is an absolute gem! The restaurant itself is beautiful, warm, and inviting. The staff is friendly and the service is outstanding. And the food!! We shared the smoked trout appetizer. It was sumptuous. I had the Moroccan stew which was fabulous. my husband had the quail, which was also outstanding. Do not miss The Livery if you are in the Lewisburg area!

Great Dining Experience
Enjoyed our dining experience very much. Excellent location. Close to downtown Lewisburg shops and lodging.

They Wowed us!
There were 8 adults and 3 "highchair" children in our party. The staff did an amazing job making us comfortable and accommodating every need or want we had. The food was outstanding from top to bottom. The table shared 4 apps and I will say the fried oysters were 2nd to none. The shortbread's are a must if they're available and the apple tart was just right. I will be back.

Nice addition to Lewisburg
We were at The Livery Tavern for dinner two times recently. In a small town with a variety of nice restaurants, the Livery Tavern stands out with excellent food and service. There is a nice list of speciality cocktails and a nice wine list. The short ribs were especially enjoyed at our table. It is a great place for a special occasion; however, when all the tables are full, it can be difficult to hear your dinner companions.

Our waiter, Alan, was very excellent - very accommodating. He recommended a wonderful wine to pair with the trout :-)

Deliciously great experience
We needed a place to eat before seeing a show at GVT and this was a great choice. The prices are a little high, but they are totally worth it. I got the hen and was very impressed. The service was wonderful- our waitress was very helpful and genuine. Oh, and the berry shortcake was unbelievable.

The Livery in Lewisburg, WV
Took a drive down while at the Greenbriar to try something different and it was every bit as good as any restaurant at the Greenbriar. Casual, friendly ambiance great waiter (David) and excellent food! Would definitely go back and recommend to anyone staying at the Greenbriar.

Menu is derived from local
Menu is derived from local food and everything was excellent. Particularly enjoyed the oyster appetizers (fried, baked and raw) and my trout entrée was delicious. Atmosphere / décor was perfect - laid back and rustic but contemporary if that makes sense. If you are staying in the area (we were at the Greenbrier), no question it is worth the short drive.
6/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
We've eaten at a lot of restaurants and this one is at the top. We were staying at the greenbrier and someone recommended the livery. It was the best meal we had on our vacation. We wished we would of found it before our last night.
6/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food is inspired, but few choices for vegetarians. Need more seafood. Small detail, but the dinner rolls are soft and amateurish. They need some more sophisticated, nutritious bread. The service and ambiance are wonderful.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have always had wonderful meals.
The food is delicious and the portions of the entrees are "just right". The appetizers & salads are greatly overpriced for the portions and management needs to re-visit that part of the menu.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
The overall experience was very nice one. The very special attention given by our young server Nathan made the evening memorable. The food selected was very well prepared and presented and the menu had good diversity of choice.

Gret Menu, Service and Setting
A varied tavern style menu that creatively and effectively highlights a broad range of local fare. My wife and I were in town for a PGA event, so the restaurant was quite busy, but our server (Nathan) made sure we never felt rushed or neglected. Great wine list, and some intriguing coctails. (Next time we'll come early and have a drink at the inviting and well stocked bar.) Quail appetizer was excellent, and the trout salad quite good. Short ribs were tender and flavorful. Catfish cooked and seasoned perfectly. All sides were solid, especially seasonal veggies and hush puppies. Chocolate bread pudding was heavy on choc and light on bread, but went well with last sips of red wine. We ate inside, but al fresco option looked nice. A+.

Truly a gem
Creative menu in a wonderful atmosphere. Local ingredients with emphasis on Appalachian cooking. Very friendly staff. Do not miss The Livery

What a chef!
Even a the green salad was a poem in flavor &presentation. Both setting and service enhanced the gourmet food.

Fantastic restaurant in a cool town
The livery Tavern is among the best restaurants in this region. Fresh local ingredients, excellent plating, exciting dishes like stuffed quail, fried pork belly and sweet breads coupled with an elegant, rustic interior make for a wonderful dining experience. The wine list is extensive with an emphasis on Italian wines to pair with the restaurant's Tuscany style of food preparation. We will most definitely be back!

Livery Tavern - Fantastic
I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. The food is fabulous, the ingredients are placed first and foremost in all dishes. The chef has tremendous technique, the presentation is attractive without being pretentious. Wish I lived closer, would be a regular here for sure.

Very Best Restaurant in Lewisburg
The Livery could be the best restaurant for wonderful food, service and wine list in most cities, but to discover this gem in little Lewisburg is remarkable. We've dined there several times now, and will go every time we're in town. If staying at the Greenbrier, it is more than worth the hop over.

Great but a little close
ONLY complaint (and its a small one) the place is small and some of the tables are really close together. Reservations are recommended, even for the bar. Everything else was great!!
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Due to several special occasions this month, I've been to The Livery 3 times – and each time, it exceeded my expectations. Although I have my favorite menu items, the specials are always intriguing and delicious. My favorite entree is the rack of lamb, just thinking about it makes my mouth water!

The food, drinks, and service were superb. Great location and the facility was inviting. Very enjoyable, hope to make it back soon!

A Lewisburg Gen
Spent one night in Lewisburg, WV on a return trip. Saw the Livery Tavern on-line, looked good and made a reservation. Had an absolutely wonderful meal. I had the Duck and my wife had the Trout, both were great, Server was very friendly and took good care of us. Recommend this to everyone.

Outstanding Find in Lewisberg
We were at the Greenbrier and discovered The Livery Tavern. We celebrated a special occasion and found the food, the service, and the restaurant to be of superior quality. So much so, that we returned the following night. The Livery Tavern would do very well in the highly competitive New Orleans market.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Outstanding service, food...meh
The restaurant is lovely -- ask for a booth, if you can get one. Service was really stellar. The food was above average, but didn't justify the expense. This restaurant would not survive if there were more competition nearby. Presentation of food was lovely, ingredients seemed fresh, but nothing at all wow'd anyone.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Outstanding dining experience!
We now make The Livery Tavern a 'must go' dining location when we're in the Greenbrier valley area. Appalachian cuisine at its best!

A Great Find
After zipping past Lewisburg WV on I-64 for dozens of years, this trip we decided to stop and see why it was selected "The Coolest Small Town in America" a few years ago. Now we know...and The Livery adds to the equation.
We ate dinner at the Livery two nights in a four-day period. Both were excellent. Oysters on half shell in West Va???? You bet. Braised duck breast cooked to moist and tender perfection? Yep. Beef short ribs with perfect sauce? Yep.Tasty sides and salads? You betcha. Decent wine list, good (is there anot, her kind?) martini, tempting desserts? They got'em all. Service was prompt, well-informed, not pushy. Prices...you get what you pay for....The Livery is pricey but worth it! We'll never zip past it again.

What a great asset to Lewisburg.
We were overjoyed to experience fine dining in Lewisburg. We own a cabin on the Greenbrier River and look forward staying in town when we close the cabin for the winter. A great evening and excellent food.

The Best in Town
We have been to the Livery several times and it never disappoints. The ambiance is ideal if you want a nice balance between rustic and luxury. Bravo on all fronts.

One of our favorites restaurants!
What a treat to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with all of the classic holiday trimmings at the Livery. The atmosphere was warm and inviting with a glowing fire in the fireplace, attentive wait staff and relaxed service. Our warm spinach salad was a perfect start, followed by a Brie App with roasted pecans and cranberry demi glaze! Sliced roasted turkey with an outstanding dressing and gravy for a main course. The topper was an apple sauce cake with homemade goat cheese ice cream. Unbelievable! We'll be back.

This is a Gem in Lewisburg. We were staying at the Greenbrier and could not get a reservation for dinner so we tried this out and it was an excellent find. Food is great and the Farm to Table concept works very well.

What a great asset to Lewisburg.
We enjoyed dinner recently and was thrilled to get a booth, very nice and cozy. Our wine was great and food was wonderful. Tried the trout and soup of the day. Outstanding!! Must ask for the booth again, really enjoyed our weekend at the Gen. Lewis and got us in the Christmas mood to shop downtown. I highly recommend The Livery. Great job!!
