As good as the other locations...
Little Star's pizza is tops in the East Bay. Now that that The Star is close to my home, I no longer have to drive across town to Albany to enjoy. The ambience at the Star is louder, but hey, it's pizza and salad. Big plus for The Star: full bar. Totally trumps every other pizza place in the Easy Bay...

Delicious pizzas and salad
Saturday evening reservations at 6pm-so great to offer this. Service was good but the wait staff either was too busy or they need more people. We ordered both thin and deep dish pizza and decided we loved the Yerba Beuna thin and liked the deep dish Grand. The cornmeal crusts on both pizzas were divine! We decided we were over the heavy tomato base on deep dish pizzas overall. Our party of 4 shared a large Goddess salad and thought it was one of the best salads we had tasted in along time-toasted almonds with baby greens and a creamy pesto dressing-yum! Beers for all. Cocktail menu was vast as was the beer selection. We left around 7:30; the restaurant was packed and very loud. We will go back again for an early dinner and also try lunch.

Happy at The Star
I selected this restaurant for our group based on a previous dining experience there. As requested, we were seated at the back table for our group of seven. Our waitperson was very attentive while providing us time to mull over the menu and catch up a bit with our friends before ordering. The wine and beer were tasty with ample pours of both. The wedge salad was yummy and a full serving satisfied three adults. Two large pizzas were ordered, one thick and one thing crust, and both were super good!! We will be back.

Great new spot
We've been to the star three times since its opening a few months ago and every time is outstanding! The thin crust is delicious and crispy, the deep dish is perfect! Love the bar, delicious cocktails. Have nothing to complain about!

Delicious Pizza and Salad
Unpretentious neighborhood restaurant that has a little bit of something for everyone, I have eaten at Little Star Pizza in Albany and various locations in San Francisco and must say I have never been disappointed. So glad they are in Oakland..

Yet another great pizza restaurant.
In a neighborhood that has no lack of pizza places The Star is a welcome addition to the variety of offerings. Little Star pizza has grown up. It’s same delicious pizza that puts other Chicago style venues to shame, but with great cocktails, a wonderful décor and a fun staff. A gem.

Great meatballs and pizza.
Great meatballs and pizza. Appetizer stuffed mushrooms need some work. Great addition to the neighborhood.

Our new favorite deep dish pizza
We've been meaning to try Little Star, but SF just seemed too inconvenient.
The deep dish pizza was really good, corn meal crust, really good sauce. We got a thin crust cheese pizza for our kids which was also pretty good and perfect size. they have small personal pizzas from lunch, you can order one for the kids for dinner, if they have leftover. No specific menu for kids, otherwise, but hey, it's pizza.
We also had the Greek salad which was very good. Service was great. When I ordered the salad, I forgot to order with dressing on the side. But the time I got back to the wait staff, they had already made it with dressing. However, the table next to ours came a little after, and also ordered the salad, so they traded salads.

good pizza, good service
very nice waitress, and the good pizza we enjoy from Little Star/Star

Can't beat the pizza here. Both deep dish and thin crust with fresh toppings. Bring your appetite as your eyes tend to be bigger than your belly. Just too many good options. Service tends to be a little slow, but the atmosphere, ambienece and food makes you overlook that one flaw

As an East Coaster, I've been on a quest for some decent pizza for many years here, so I'm thrilled that a great pizza place opened up nearby. Thin crust and deep dish pizzas were a hit at our table. Loved the cornmeal crust and leftovers were fantastic today.

Gluten free and friendly service!!
Gluten free option and friendly service!! Great for lunch, haven't been there for dinner yet, but same menu

Upscale Pizza Joint
Well, it's not really a joint or upscale but it is a great neighborhood restaurant that has mostly pizzas, thin crust and deep dish. They serve salads and sandwiches, (I think hot) and have a good bar scene. We ate 2 different thin crust pizzas with interesting and meaty toppings. Service was good and the crowd a mix of neighborhood Oakland-ites. It wasn't a pretentious group. AND they even have a small parking lot!! Yes, I'll definitely make this one of my neighborhood eateries!

The Star lives up to its reputation
Took my brother and his family out to a birthday celebration meal the other night. Salads and pizza were excellent, and the spicy wings were to die for. Service could not have been nicer and more professional. Loved our time there and will certainly go back again.

Best pizza crust
Wanted to check out the restaurant that had taken the place of Milano - was impressed with the The Star. Pizza crust is very important to my enjoyment of a pizza - The Star' crust was eepecially good - very crisp and tasty - good selection of pizza combinations and think anyone could find a pizza to their liking. Our wait person was great - friendly and helpful. The bartender made the best cosmo I have ever tasted. Small Greek salad was easily enough for two people and it was delicious - wonderful authentic tasting Greek dressing. We look forward to returning. Ruby M.

Met with friends for a Friday night out at The Star. Enjoyed the experience and food.

This is a nice addition to the new restaurants in Oakland. Their deep dish pizza rivals a old favorite in Oakland. The drinks were nice and so great for a hot day!

Love the cornmeal deep dish
I've been wanting to try Little Star in SF for some time. I'm so excited that they opened one in Oakland. I like the sauce better than Zacharys, but it is a little saltier. I love the cornmeal crust. The salads could be a little more creative, although I like the Greek. If they have them, you can order a lunch personal size pizza for the kids dinner. Its perfect size. Its nice that you can make reservations, so you don't have to wait on weekend nights.

Our deep dish was very tasty using the freshest ingredients. Everyone in our party commented on how good it was. The thin crust pizza's being delivered around us looked equally good. We will return.

a great addition to the grand lake
the star, grown up from little star from NOPA SF and Albany just north of Berkeley landed on Grand Ave at the foot of Mandana in Oakland. A total redesign of the space formerly known as Milano. Very nice place. Very good food. Lots of kids and space for large groups. I liked it and will return.

Great Pizza!!! Best in the Bay. They need a better on tap beer selection and their servers are not very knowledgeable but they were very friendly! I guess it is just a pizza place. Loved it!

Love the option of ordering
Love the option of ordering any thin crust pizza as deep dish and vice/versa. Lots of interesting pizza combinations. We really appreciated our waiter, who asked if we would like our thin crust pizzas served before deep dish, which require longer bake-time. Since we were a party of 8 with 3 kids, it was good to keep the food coming.

Second time going and so far
Second time going and so far very consistent service and food!! Very good way to start a business!

The deep dish pizza with cornmeal crust was YUM!!!! And feels like less fat than other deep dish pizza in this area! Also, salad was fresh and thin crust pizza quite good. Nice interior remodel! Also great wait staff. I'm sure we, including the extended family, will be back!

Finally, pizza in Grand Lake
If you are tired of the proliferate of froufrou pizza joints, you love this place. Good old school regular and deep dish with interesting toppings and a full bar. Not crowded on a Tuesady night, not empty either. I could see The Star being discovered and I hope not ruined by popularity. Go before that happens.

Never had a bad experience with the food. Best pizza and the goddess salad is heavenly. Service is sometimes slow to get to the table but I like that there is time between apps and pizza. The rest. Is also pretty loud but everyone is nice and the food is amazing!
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Star has the best pizza ever! The crust is made with corn meal, and it's awesome, The salads are great, and the service is outstanding. We were in Oakland four days and went there twice! We will absolutely return on our next trip!!
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Greeted at the door by name - excellent. Teddy an excellent waiter - didn't push drinks - for the working group at lunch we appreciate that. Informed us the deepish took 25 mins so we all ordered salads. My iceberg wedges was superb - don't ever change or skimp on that. Everyone wished they ordered that. Deep dish pizza with cornmeal outstanding. Can't wait to return. Parking spot was a deal closer. I'm telling everyone.

The star is as good as Little Star in SF. Not only are the pizzas awesome but they have amazing starters and salads.

A Nice Surprise!
Went with girlfriends for a birthday lunch. What a nice surprise. The food and service were just great! It was my second visit since their opening. Much more impressed on this visit. It is a great neighborhood place even with prices high for pizza. Will be sure to go again.

Best za in East Bay
Have never been a fan of deep dish pizza, it always seemed like a triumph of quantity over quality. The Star has changed my mind, at least at that venue and under the guidance of our younger friend, a connoisseur of The Star's menu options: a sweet and savory "extra helping" of tomato sauce with sausage, peppers and other ingredients. A crisp Classic Greek salad with tangy crumbly feta and fresh greens. Great selection of craft beers. Very friendly service, though just a tad slow for our needs after the main dishes were served; had to work a bit to get the tab. Will definitely shift our takeout business to The Star, and will definitely go back often to the Grand Ave. site.

Pizza, Salad, Drinks!
This is a lively neighborhood restaurant on Grand. The staff from the front door to wait staff were very good, attentive, not overly so. The quality, freshness and flavor of the food was fantastic! We chose thin crust pizzas and the Goddess and the Wedge salads, and we were very happy with everything. I will definitely return to try the deep dish pizza style.

Deep dish better than Zacharys
Went to The Star on a friend recommendation (whom I trust with food opinions). We are meatball fans so we tried the meatballs: taste was good (sauce as well) but they were a little heavy. I like that you can get a salad for the table and share. I was bothered by the music because from our table near the back all I could hear was the base. But the pizza… we got The Grand Ave and we were all very happy. I like the texture of the crust better than Zacharys and the options are plentiful. We'll be back for the pizza. The thin crust also looks terrific (many tables got that).
