Pasteur has been closed for years. I had dined there before and had a good experience. So, I was pleasantly surprised with the re-opening. The menu is great, with lots of new features and a variety of selections. The new look of the space and the outdoor patio are quite inviting. There is a new energy and feel that charges the space now. I plan to return.

Trip to Europe
Food and service were excellent, but the ambiance of Pasteur really sets it apart in a city like Chicago. You have the genuine feeling of being in a bistro in Europe - not just a cookie cutter Asian eatery. We'll continue to return again and again.

Excellent in every category!
Service was outstanding, the best I have ever experienced. Food was GREAT and affordable. Went on a date night with my boyfriend and we sat by the fireplace on the Back Porch. I loved it because after the sunset it provided warmth. Great atmosphere, food and service!! A++

Don't pass up Pasteur
Pasteur offers great affordable appetizers and a large selection of entrees. The dining room is stylish and notably different from what you will find in the neighborhood. Street parking is easy to find.

Another Stellar Evening!
We celebrated my neighbors birthday at Pasteur. And it was terrific! The server, Rosanna was just lovely. Paced the meal perfectly for us. The food as usual was so unusual and fresh. We loved it!

Lovely restaurant. Decor is
Lovely restaurant. Decor is so soothing and beautiful. Our service was great. Very knowledgable server. I had the steak stir fry- ask the waiter which one they are known for. Delicious ! My husband was very happy with his duck. We sat inside but patio looked lovely.

Superb Viet Vietnamese Gem!
We had a great dining experience. The food is all very well prepared and unusual. We tried the Bouillabaisse, Duck, Special Beef and whole fish. All were excellent and a great variety. Our waiter was courteous and knowledgeable but the special part was a visit from the owner, a wonderful woman with a great memory for our previous visits. We enjoy returning to Pasteur to try more of this unusual menu. Highly recommended!

The antithesis of most ethnic restaurants; it's beautifully decorated and the food is outstanding!

Al fresco dining was perfect
My husband and I ate on the patio and it was a beautiful setting. The service was attentive but not overbearing. I had the signature beef entre and my husband ordered a chicken dish with noodles. Both were very good. We will be returning.
6/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went for a birthday lunch ... everything was fabulous!! Starting with service -- our wait person was great from start to finish. Our appetizers: seared scallops, pineapple calamari and beef short ribs oh so good! I had the duck breast as my entree and it was one of the best duck dishes I have ever had. Finished off with great bread pudding. All of us cannot wait to go back again. I highly recommend dining at Pasteur.

Excellent food, atmosphere and service.... Morgan is the BEST server and Kim is a great hostess...it is always a pleasure to dine at Pasteur.

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT
There were 5 of us. We had 4 appetizers and 4 different diners (two people ordered the same thing). We all tasted everything. Food was great, as was the service. Best of what we had - chicken spring rolls, Tempura Shrimp (appetizers). Signature Beef and one of the chicken dishes ( I think it is Chochinchin, or something like that) for entrees. Ambiance is lovely. Warm and friendly atmosphere. Prices are reasonable. I also understand from my friends that their cocktails were really good and innovative.
6/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
food was a little bland
I had a noodle dish that was well-cooked except it lacked a bit in flavor. Was a bit too bland.

We have a number of good, inexpensive VN restaurants in Chicago, and a few more upscale that truly stand out, Pasteur if one of them where the French influence endures. While I am critical of colonization, in some cases, there can be good food, such as what can be found at Pasteur. We much enjoyed our food, great taste, ambience and reasonable for a more upscale iteration. We much enjoyed the scallops appetizer, chicken soup and the curried monkfish and the pineapple calamari.
Pasteur is well worth visiting and most, like us, recommend it.

Elegant, yet casual
Outdoor patio is quiet, food is excellent and service both friendly and efficient.
6/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
we went there for lunch and was pleased to see a lunch special. the lunch menu offers a good deal, includes a mini eggroll or one dumpling with meal. Dessert was wonderful - mango mousse cake was light & not too sweet. the fried banana and green tea ice cream was also delicious. I would return but will try regular entrees for more options.

Charming surprise in Edgewater
I absolutely adore this restaurant. If I wasn't already planning a trip to Vietnam, I would start instantly. Such a charming, beautiful, light restaurant. Very tasteful decorations and relaxing outdoor patio. The food is just as fantastic. Light, flavorful, balanced, presentable, amazing. Everything we got was delicious - shrimp papaya salad, calamari pineapple entree, beef short ribs, pho, curry beef noodles, all recommended.

Pasteur is a Gem
Lots of great Vietnamese food in Andersonville but Pasteur is a gem. It bills itself as French Vietnamese with emphasis on Asian preparations and flavors. This is our second visit and it was confirmation that the first great experience wasn't a fluke. This time we asked for seating on their patio which is in the back of the restaurant. Great little oasis. Although the street scene is fun, it is also nice to have a place for quieter outside dining.
This trip we had the Claypot ginger chicken and a calamari dish. The preparation and flavors were perfect. Another one of our crew had the curry beef which was a very balanced curry and quite a treat.
Highly recommend Pasteur.
7/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Nice ambiance, great service and really delicious food. The calamari was my favorite, so was the old fashioned with Templeton. My mom loved the lychee martini Kumite, said it was the best. Our server Nick was very efficient and polite and coursed our meal perfectly. This is my new favorite place to dine for the price point and quality food. Everybody must give this place a try and I promise you won't be let down. Great food and even better drinks, what's not to like.
7/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
This was our first visit since this restaurant re-opened and we were pleasantly surprised. It has been completely updated and the outdoor patio is outstanding. The menu was creative and the food presented was attractive and was very very good. Service was excellant. We will definitely return and tell our friends.
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
So glad we went!
Service was impeccable and most of the food was terrific. Was disappointed in the classic crab dish (that is expensive and must be ordered 24 hours in advance), as it was not the same as it used to be and the crab was overcooked. We will certainly go back because we enjoyed all the other items we ordered. We just won't spend the $$$ for the crab again.
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
This place was great. I got the Pho and my girlfriend got the Sesame Chicken. Altogether with tax and tip it was only 31 dollars. It was a great place for a great night! I checked out some of the other options available near Bryn Maur, but this is the one I would recommend!
The atmosphere was pleasant!
On another note, they were both speed and very attention to any needs. As soon as dishes started to collect, they were cleared. As soon as I was half way on water, I was immediately filled back up. It was good!

Great spot. Back patio is
Great spot. Back patio is the biggest secret in Andersonville. Food is very good with a number of stand outs. Something there for every price point.
7/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Ambiance, decor, service all outstanding. Very beautiful atmosphere to dine in; especially in Edgewater. The heated patio in the rear is very relaxing.
That said, the major downfalls of this restaurant are this: Bland food and poor potion to price ratio. Though the ingredient are very fresh and meals were plated with obvious care this is essentially ultra-simple peasant food dressed-up. All the dishes were underwhelmingly simple, to the point of blandness.
I must say that the servers were very attentive and endeavored to provide us a relaxing enjoyable time.
Would visit Pasture for a beautiful place to enjoy an evening of drinks with friends inside the beautiful dinning room, or out on the tranquil garden patio.

Amazing drinks AND food!
Great for sharing - we tried several items and they were all great. The wine list is excellent (don't miss the Alma Negra Malbec Rose! It was DELICIOUS!) and the mixed drinks are creative and delicious. I can't wait to go back!
8/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Morgan created an interesting meal with pairings for our party of four. Appetizers were excellent ranging from the beef spring roll to the Vietnamese crepe. Beef Pho was hearty with just the right tartness. Tamarind shrimp soup was delicious but the duck soup needed more oomph. The woman who brought our soups was confused as to which was which. The fish entree was the tastiest, but full of bones large and small. The signature beef in wine sauce was wonderful with the watercress beneath giving a crispy, yet buttery feel. Ginger chicken disappointed, we have had it there before and it was lively with ginger and other spices, This time it was underseasoned. The mango mousse was the perfect dessert, chiffony, sweet, but not overly so.

Diamond in the Rough
Pasteurs is a fantastic restaurant with great service! Our server Lindsay is always is very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. She offers great advice on specific items and is just an all around friendly person! We have been there twice for date night and have had her both times.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good Vietnamese restaurant Ina neighborhood setting. We ate late afternoon in the outdoor garden, shielded from El noise by high buildings. Variety of dishes well prepared.
Very good service
8/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was excellent and the service was very nice. I also work here as a busser and I would recommended it even if I didn't work there and it was my first time dining in. They will also treat you like family.
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
From the craft cocktails to the extensive menu to the layers of flavor, Pasteur delivers. The dining space is beautiful. The outdoor patio is a hidden gem. Service is excellent. A bonus for those not living in the area: parking along Broadway.

Don't miss it!
My wife and I had a wonderful time at Pasteur. I have heard of Pasteur for years and had intended to try it out when it was located on Sheridan. The new place is a gem. We had a wonderful eating experience and plan to come back with friends. I have already recommended Pasteur to other friends and have encouraged them to go.

Best patio in Chicago. Excellent service. Delicious food.

A hidden gem
This place was outstanding! The service was great and the food was out of his world. We changed out seats a few times but they were very receptive and moved us until we were comfortable. The food was hot and the drinks were cold! They even made a drink for me that was not even on the menu.. Just ask and they will accommodate. I had family in town and I wanted to show them how great it really was! We will DEFINITLY be back
Thanks for a great time!

Pasteur is back in a big way!
There wasn't anything I didn't love about our dinner at Pasteur. Four people shared dishes throughout beginning with what are the best dumplings in the world, the crepe with chicken and rice rolls with poached shrimp. Their signature steak dish is worth the hype as was the whole snapper. This was followed by flourless chocolate cake, mango mousse and banana tapioca. Each dish was more wonderful than the last.
The outside patio was quiet, no bugs and made the evening. Staff was attentive, with our waiter giving us great food suggestions.
This place is high quality and needs to be filled every night so make a reservation and enjoy the French/Vietnamese food.

My Birthday at Pasteur
The decor is gorgeous and makes you feel like you are in Casa Blanca. The wines and food were outstanding.

1st time, you never forget your 1st
Food was superior in freshness, quality, presentation, but mostly, THE SUPERB FLAVORS.
The Bar: was worked by a true professional. I've run restaurants, I started as a bartender in 1985. I call them like I see them, and this guy wasn't just blessed with the gift of gab, his cocktails (and I tried a new one of his suggestion w/o knowing what was in it. something I never do) are what I dreamed of for the next two weeks. This guy knows balance, he knows how to play one flavor off another. In a word; Professional!
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was great the restaurant is beautiful but the outside garden is the best in the city or burbs and I have seen many of them & it's very reasonable try it u will love it.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Each dish filled with flavor and unique fresh seasoning and ingredients. Very reasonable for cuisine this delicious. Drink list sophisticated and complex also mixers so fresh! Our server was helpful, warm and enthusiastic. At times a little too talkative!
9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Been a while since our last visit to this place. The menu has changed a little, prices are up, the interior is still elegant and a matching rear patio has been added, which is a nice touch on a summer night. Food and wine were very good. Service good too, though a little slow as our server was preoccupied with a large group. That happens. We will be back.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
My wife and I brought my parents here to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. They are both world travelers and have spent a lot of time in Viet Nam. They were both impressed, as were my wife and I. The food was absolutely delicious and our server was perfect: attentive but not over bearing, both friendly and funny.
We loved the ambience, the service, and the food.

The lady and I dined at Pasteur last Saturday night. Service was satisfactory, food was excellent, my only complaints were the difficulty of finding parking nearby, sometimes, and the noise level. A longtime Chicagoan, I like to dine out on weeknights when most cafes are a bit less festive, and past visits to Pasteur weren't so noisy. That said, the lady and I enjoyed our visit. She ordered the Vietnames bouillabaisse which was an enormous, jumbo bowl of broth, seafood, and veggies. My Lemon Grass Chicken was delicious. We began with an order of salmon egg rolls and another appetizer of charbroiled beef in tiny wraps which was like beef sushi, for lack of a more descriptive term. I left happy and will return soon.

Food is Geeat.
Our food was very good. Once food was delivered to the table, we woukd have appreciated knowing which dish was which and how to best eat/ enjoy the dish with the condiments delivered. And my pet pieve..... the bus person started clearing the table before everyone at the table was fininshed eating.?Otherwise, everything was wonderful!!
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
I've been to Pasteur a few times and it is always excellent. The dining room is elegent and the patio in back is secluded and charming. The dishes are always well prepared and the flavors balanced and interesting.

Great tasting food
Went to this place with couple of friends for late lunch. The menu selection is great. We ordered lunch specials from the menu and they were very tasty. My friends also like the food. Great place!!. Try their Bánh mì and Mango Mousse cake.

I had the pleasure to dine
I had the pleasure to dine at Pasteur several times and have on each occasion had a wonderful dining experience.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
We loved Pasteur. Perfect place for an evening out with friends. It was quiet enough we could hear each other, but not so quiet you felt like you were in library or someplace boring. It seemed very active and fun. Food was awesome. Would highly recommend it.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
We love Pasteur. We have relatives who come twice a year from California, and they always ask to go there when they visit. Every now and then, we treat ourselves to dinner there solo.
This visit, the food was exceptional as always, but the waiter seemed inexperienced. Nothing dire, and he was nice enough, but it wasn't the expert level of service we've come to expect from Pasteur.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Why Did We Wait So Long
My husband and I moved to Uptown last November and saw Pasteur right away and said, we should totally go there. Well the year came and went and we never went to Pasteur. We were a little unsure of what French-Vietnamese might mean in action. Well, in action, it is nothing but absolutely delicious. The creative dishes are amazing in flavor and execution. The ambiance is dynamic. Our fellow diners were as unique and interesting looking as the dishes. I am just sorry we missed the summer season on that lovely patio. However, walking in there from a 15 degree outside, we were immediately transported to a warm, tropical, and glamorous world. This is a new favorite spot. The claypot dishes are a must try!
