A super new find!
We are so happy to have a new French restaurant to go to that won't break the bank!
Everything was cooked with great care- you could tell.

Food was phenomenal. The whole dining experience was so soothing and so yummy. Not only that but it was so beautiful. The owners were amazing. Overall I went there on my birthday it was wonderful.

A great addition to the Westside. Beautiful presentations of contemporary French food w/ an international twist. A relative bargain for food and service of such high quality---and with the current zero corkage (waiting for its license), a real steal. Highly recommended.

A recent discovery for me,
A recent discovery for me, A Food Affair is EVERYTHING I love in a restaurant (short of a fabulous view, that is, but that's totally okay here). The service is perfect mix of warmth, charm, and competence; the decor/atmosphere simple, nicely understated, and somehow transports you to some quaint, cozy town outside of Paris; and with a refreshing lack of pretentiousness, the food they offer is shockingly brilliant -- as good as I've had in any of the best LA restaurants. Oh, and it's strickly BYOB so very easy on the budget.

Delicious neighborhood gem!
What a wonderful surprise, the food was delicious and the service was attentive!

JUST PLAIN SPLENDID
This is splendid bistro food and a total surprise, especially at these moderate prices. The French owners used to be only caterers and opened the restaurant a few months ago. Bring your own wine because they don't have a liquor license yet. The food is superb -- the starters, the entrees, the deserts. Everything is special. The room is quite plain, with a sort of river-rock wall that seems out of a different era, but then a lot of bistros in Paris are fairly plain, too, and when the food comes you'll feel as though you stumbled into a wonderful family place in the 9th or the 18th. Go once and you'll go back for more.

A Great dining experience
The food was fantastic, the service was great. It is a very homey lovely place to dine. We felt one of the family while being served wonderful food. I would highly recommend A Food Affair.

Great Neighborhood Find
This was my second visit to A Food Affair as the first was so great. Once again, the food did not disappoint. Wonderful and interesting combination of tastes and flavors. We did sit on the front patio which was kind of noisy from street traffic. Next time, i'd choose to sit inside or on the back patio, if it is open. And there will be next time...definitely a place to return to.

FANTASTIC FOOD and....
We love checking out neighborhood restaurants and were so pleasantly surprised by this darling restaurant recommended by a friend...and the incredible atmosphere and food. Highly recommend to others. They don't have their license yet, so you can bring your own bottle of wine. Nice patio out back for a party group.

Really couldn't ask for anything more from a restaurant, with awesome service and awesome food. The mushroom tourte and bouillabaisse are absolute must-tries.

Great food with personal service
Great food with personal service allowed us to eat with friends at our own pace. No corkage fee allowed us to enjoy a bit of everything on the menu and still drink fantastic wine at no charge. Highly recommend.

As a Saturday evening party of 10 we all loved this little place!
Delicious and interesting dishes and a warm and attentive staff.
Be sure to try the limoncello cake!

This restaurant is so warm
This restaurant is so warm and cozy that we felt comfortable immediately. The staff makes you feel right at home and the food was exceptionally delicious. My friends and I loved everything about our experience there and will go back again and again.

French in SoRo
Word of mouth turned us onto this little gem on Robertson. Babette and Christian couldn't be any better hosts, they make you feel truly welcome. Every single dish we have had here has been excellent and beautifully prepared. A Food Affair is our new go to neighborhood restaurant, we can walk, but it is worth a drive. They do not have a liquor license, however you are welcome to bring your own,... wine anyway, and as of now there has never been a corkage fee. The crème brulee should not be missed.

I brought a friend who lives in the neighborhood and she can't wait to come back! I think I've had everything on the menu, but my favorites are the grilled romaine salad, mushroom appetizer, boeuf bourgignon (the best in Los Angeles), and their mussels with perfect fries. There is always a special, so you won't get bored with the regular menu and if you can manage a dessert, the hot apple tart or chocolate mousse are both fantastic.
Service is superb from both Babette and Christian, the owners who come by every table to make sure everything is perfect, to the servers Alex, Mario and Erica and Manny the busser. This is a neighborhood treasure and I am so happy to have found it (through Open Table)!

Great experience at A Food Affair!
We went to a food affair to take our friends for their anniversary. We were not dissapointed. The food was excellent and creative. We had at least 3 people attending to us. The chef came out and spent a good 10 minutes conversing with us and was a really unique experience. They are passionate about the food and the ambiance they are creating. Free corkage is a huge bonus! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Always such a delightfully satisfying "Affair". I love sharing it with new people too.... and seeing their reaction to the killer Mushroom Tourte! Magnifique!!!

Cozy setting, excellent food
We had a wonderful experience at A Food Affair. It is located in the former home of Bella Roma -- another of our local favorites -- which has now moved down the block. The space is small yet the tables are well spaced so it is not noisy. The chef and his wife, the maître d', came to our table and welcomed us with genuine warmth. And best of all, the food was excellent. I had the chicken and my husband had the Bouef Bourgignon, and both were outstanding. We will be back often.

Terrific Neighborhood French Bistro
This is a terrific little neighborhood french restaurant. They don't have a liquor license, so you have to bring your own. Nice patio area in front and cozy dining room with the open kitchen. We went back two nights in a row. It is a relatively small menu--but everything on it is excellent--we were happy with everything we had. My wife thought the chicken breast with brussel sprouts was sublime. Our guests loved the onion soup, eggplant appetizer and bouillabaisse. I loved the beef bourguignon and the cauliflower side. The romaine with crispy pancetta salad--yum. We will be going back there regularly.

Really pleasant restaurant with good food, helpful, friendly service and very fairly priced. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Authentic French Restaurant!
My boyfriend and I decided to try A Food Affair after hearing of the no-corkage-fee deal they have going on until they receive their beer and wine license. Everyone took great care of us, and the Chef came out to introduce himself (he was great!). The atmosphere at the restaurant is warm and friendly, and we felt very welcome. The food is delicious, but don't expect huge portions like at most American restaurants. We love that the owners of the restaurant and chef used French to welcome us, thank us, and say good-bye! It brought us back to Paris a bit! Great experience overall! Thank you!
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Amazing food, great presentation, fantastic service, and good atmosphere. Make sure to ask to be seated outside, inside doesn't feel out of the ordinary.

Charming and authentic French
Charming and authentic French food with an American presentation - meaning not super heavy on the sauces. Owners personally greeted us. Chef came out to say hello. Super charming vibe, nice patio area, private patio in rear for parties, but we sat in the main dining area. It is a small neighborhood bistro extraordinaire! Bouillabaisse was superb. Beef Bourguignon was excellent. Will definitely go back! Reservation suggested - the best tables fill up.

This is a little neighborhood gem that our foodie friends told us about. We wish we found about last year when they opened...but we're trying hard to make up for lost time going back frequently to try everything on the excellent menu. The chef and his wife are very welcoming and make sure that they know exactly what you want. Yum.

Wow what amazing food and
Wow what amazing food and service! I enjoyed everything I ordered, especially the mushroom tarte (unbelievable!!), and the French husband and wife owners and chef pair personally came to each of the tables to ensure their guests were loving the food. I always appreciate those types of personal touches. Just make sure to bring your own bottle of wine, as the restaurant doesn't have a liquor license yet.

We made a reservation for
We made a reservation for 7 but I had to call and tell them we would be late, they said no problem. They explained the menu and made recommendations. I knew to bring a bottle of wine they were happy to open with no corkage fee. They pointed out a wine store for the the couple that came in after us. We had the three mushroom tort for a starter (awesome) the shrimp and scallops special and the parchment paper wrapped linguine, both of which were very nice. We indulged on the desserts (creme bruele, coconut flan, lemon cake and dark chocolate) so that we could bring a couple home for later. The chef / owner came out to ask about our meal, and greeted several other repeat customers by name. We plan to visit again.

Neighborhood Gem Indeed!
Third visit! Each time the selections are wonderful, the presentation delightful and the quality of the food and preparation just great. I only wish I ate out more often so I could return more frequently. Home made desserts are fabulous. The owner truly seems delighted that you are there.

I live in Beverlywood, have
I live in Beverlywood, have passed this place dozens of times and never really noticed it. We decided to try it and were not disappointed. First, no liquor license yet, so its BYOB and no corkage. We shared a wonderful mushroom tart. We were all happy with our entrees (duck breast, lamb shank and shrimp and scallops) and then shared an apple tart for dessert. The coffee is among the best I've ever had in a restaurant. Because I drink decaf I find some very good places, don't serve it or serve lesser quality decaf. Oh, and on top of everything else - the prices are quite reasonable. The only downside is that there's a firehouse across the street and we sat on the patio-but there is an interior option. Oh - great service too!

Once a chef takes the time to come to everyone's table and shakes hands and ask for customer's input, they win me as a regular.
we had a wonderful time there with an amazing service and delicious authentic French food.
I recommend this restaurant highly.

a great place for a romantic dinner
The food was delicious and the owners obviously take great pride in their restaurant. I would recommend the beef bourguignon. There is a front part of the restaurant for individuals, and there is a lovely patio in the back in you would like to reserve it for a larger party. You are able to bring your own wine, which I like.

Amazing Dining Experience!
This is a hidden treasure in the West LA neighborhood. A quiet, intimate space perfect for dates. The service is impeccable; the staff is friendly and attentive. The food is divine - true to French cuisine! I highly recommend trying the beef bourguignon or the moules frites.
The chef came by our table twice to ask us how the food was and was very courteous. He also gave us a tour of the patio space, which is perfect for birthday parties ($40/person including appetizer, entree and dessert with no corkage fee - $3/wine glass change if multiple bottles of wine are used).
Their corkage is free through February 2014, so be sure to take advantage of it!
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Having eaten here a few times, it continues to serve excellent food at reasonable prices and in a pleasant location. The service was great and the chef a real charmer!
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
The restaurant itself is nothing fancy. The owners of the establishment were very nice. They greeted all six of us graciously. We chose to sit outside on the patio even though it was a little cool, but we had heaters. The chef came out a couple of times to see how we were all doing. Our waiter was very nice - service was very good.
I think everyone enjoyed their food. On the flip side, the food was expensive & the portions were small. But we still enjoyed out time there.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was delicious, perfectly cooked and came out very quickly.

Absolutely loved this place.
Absolutely loved this place. Found it on Yelp. Great food/service. Only downside is that no beer or wine license but no corkage chage makes up for that. We will be frequent visitors.

The place is small, cozy,
The place is small, cozy, maybe a little crowded and despite the heaters in the covered patio, we can definitely feel the cold draft. Where the atmosphere failed to please my wife, the amazing food quickly changed our initial impression of wariness to "aweness" if that's a word. The mushroom torte just melts in your mouth, the french onion soup was not salty or heavy; we had boullabaise and moules for our main courses which were simply outstanding. The staff were very friendly, however on that busy night, they did forget one or two things.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Wonderful food and gracious
Wonderful food and gracious staff. They are waiting for their liquor license, so you can drink a $50 bottle for $50 (rather than a $10 bottle for $50 - no corkage). You won't be disappointed.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Friends recommended Food Affair. Its a great family run neighborhood restaurant. The owners Christian and Babbette take care to make you feel welcome, and the wait staff really care. The food is excellent. We shared 3 dinners and appetizers, and we were all thrilled with the food. Only downside, which isn't really, is they don't have a liquor license, so you can bring your own bottle without a corkage fee. Highly recommend.

Our favorite LA French restaurant
We travel to France frequently and get addicted to their cuisine. We have found some nice French restaurants in LA, which tide is over until our next trip to France. Recently, we took a gamble and tried A Food Affair. We think it is the most authentic southern French cooking you will find in LA. The owners Christian and Babette are from Aix-en-Provence, one of the scenic & romantic towns in the Mediterranean region. Their menu, decor and friendliness make us feel we're back in Aix. A Food Affair is clearly our favorite french restaurant in LA. Moderate prices, extremely friendly staff. Bring your own bottle as they don't have a liquor licenses yet. An added treat. Book early.

A taste of Europe!
This place has only been open for a year and is already a hit amongst locals and LA foodies. Great modern French cuisine that reminds me of home European cooking (I'm English). I had the butternut squash soup for a starter, which was delicious with just the right seasoning. Followed by classic beef bourguignon, which was beautifully presented. Beef bourguignon is usually quite a heavy dish when I've had it in the past, but this was the perfect balance of slow-cooked beef and a small serving of pasta. The ultimate dessert came in the form of apple tart with a salted caramel ice cream — all freshly made. I would certainly dine here again — just remember to bring a bottle of wine as they don't have a liquor licence yet!

Best French food and bistro!
This is a restaurant where you feel like an important and valued guest, not like a number like in trendy conglomerate restaurants. The food is exceptional and the service is super attentive and personable!

Had a great experience at A FOOD AFAIR-my wife and I each had the specials offered that day(a lamb dish and a shrimp/scallops dish).Started with a mushroom tart,it 's a must if you are dining here.Enjoyed the warm /cozy setting, the atmosphere is relaxing! . Also enjoyed chatting with owners/chef,the fact that they come out and visit with their customers is a nice touch, something you don't often get these days..And lets not forget desert,we had an Apple Tart and Tahitian Creme Brûlée -both were outstanding!. We will be returning to A FOOD AFAIR and highly recommend to everyone.

This is a very charming restaurant
This is a very charming restaurant and exactly what you would think of a small French Restaurant to be. Big bulb lights outside, metal and wood decorations and all the French Classics. The food was good and creative. The eggplant bruschetta was our favorite. I thought the Spinach Pasta need a little more salt but that is always preference. I thought the server could have been a little more enthusiastic but she was very polite and prompt. They were very accommodating about us running late. We sat outside where they decorate the patio and enclose it which makes you feel like you are not across from a gas station and apartment building, but somewhere more secluded. I would definitely come back and recommend this for a couple or a small group.

5 Star Plus!!!
From the moment we walked in, we were treated with warmth, attentive service with superb dishes. All of our dishes were full of flavor, nothing over done, but just right.
I drive by all the time and never noticed this place. This place should not be missed!!!
I will be going back for another birthday celebration in 2 weeks. I want to try everything on the menu. Hopefully they will have their Wine/Beer license. You can bring your own, no corkage fee. Had to walk 3 blocks for beer, no problem.

Best French Food in LA!
I've been trying to find a place that serves great and authentic French food in LA. While I've found some good places, this is by far the best place I have been to! The wine is still BYOB but that isn't a huge deal. The food is FANTASTIC! The French Onion Soup is great and the corn creme brûlée is some of the best food I have ever tries. Do yourself a favor and try this place. You'll fall in love.

A wonderful dining experience. Great food and service in an intimate atmosphere. Was very cool when the chef came out to say hi and see how we were enjoying the evening.
