"My friend and I had an amazing overall experience. As a couple of exploring foodies, we thought the food was incredible--beautiful, creative, and most importantly, delicious. The wine selection was wonderful and they had a list of cool and original drinks at their bar. The manager and waitstaff were very attentive and enthusiastic. The ambiance was cozy, yet hip at the same time. I would definitely come back and would definitely recommend to anyone!"

"We booked a reservation via Open Table 15 minutes before we showed up and they were ready for us - very cool. The staff was courteous and knowledgeable. Had a great bottle of wine, and the owner or manager chatted us up and told us the history of the wine we had ordered - awesome.
After such a great first 10 minutes I guess I was expecting to be overwhelmed by the food and I was only satisfied. Nothing was bad by any means but it sometimes felt that they were trying too hard. I know other people rave about the chilled oysters but we thought the added flavors overwhelmed the oysters themselves. Overall good food, small portions and a friendly staff. A good choice if you know what you want."

"Real NYC foodie location. They hold their prices to a moderate level by keeping their portions small, but the bites are great. They are inventive with the food. I'd go again when in Midtown West."

"Food was great, however the little peice of plastic found in my Oysters was a little off-putting. There was also a big Group in at the same time resulting in the usual lack of attentive service.

I would go back for the food but question everything else!!"

"My first visit, I thought, "This is the best food I've ever eaten." My dining companion felt the same.
My second visit confirmed it. The best food I've ever eaten in NYC.
Everything about the experience of dining at RESPITE matches & enhances the food.
Oh, the food. The food.
To try to describe the food is like trying to describe an ethereal experience. Words simply fail.
Each bite is a surprise. Each morsel is a delight.
It produces wordless smiles, and playfully stops conversation.
At the end of both meals, I found myself giddy, and sated, and in that happy place where I think of MFK Fisher's line:
"Fate could not harm me. For I have dined today. And, indeed, dined well.""

"The food at Respite was ambitious and delicious. Only one dish, which was a special that night, had a presentation that was a little over the top, silly (veal cheeks with sweetbread "knuckles" and scallops all stacked up like something from a Dr. Seuss story - delicious, but the plating was ridiculous!). The staff was friendly and knew the food well, but seemed easily overwhelmed by the half-full dining room. The ambiance was too bright for comfort - the spare design of the bar and dining room needed more subtle lighting to be inviting. Still, a good spot for a pricy, tasty meal."
