  • "Republic is close to where my daughter goes to boarding school so I go to at there often. I have never had a bad meal there, and their presentations are beautiful. It can get noisy, but there are side rooms where it's not as bad. Service can be slightly slower than desired, which i think is a product of always being busy more than bad service, but not often"

The mussels were an excellent introduction, which was followed by a very tender chicken selection of coq au vin for me and Peruvian chicken for my partner, both great. Good sandwich menu for lunch. The place was busy, the bar scene energetic, certainly for a Friday night. A bit noisy, but did not interfere with conversation. You might ask for upstairs. Service was very good. A very good beer selection, wines reasonably priced. In particular, they have a rotating selection of craft beers, some local, of varying flavors to fit your taste. Waitress was generally knowledgable. ,"

  • "We have eaten at Republic many times, often joined by friends. No one has ever been disappointed. The burgers are to die for ( best anywhere) and my husband raves about the Peruvian chicken--he loves it so much he refuses to try anything else. All the preparations are an interesting twist on standard pub fare. Tempting list of additions--we had the pork sliders with pineapple and they were wonderful. Our favorite dessert is the desserts under glass---2 each of 5 minis which they rotate. My only complaint is that this place is consistently noisy. Energetic is a euphemism--it is NOISY...so much so that there have been times we have not been able to carry on a conversation. We go either early, late, or weeknights and request a quiet table"

  • "I usually don't write reports on restaurants but the experience in this one was so bad that I wanted to share: - Table next to us was extremely loud and server's attitude was basically "oh well, too bad". - Server seemed to be bothered when asked questions about the menu. - Food took a very long time to be served and of poor quality."

  • "We always love the burgers at Republic, but the Truffle Mac & Cheese with Lobster is also AMAZING! The Roasted Chicken also got rave reviews from a member of our party. The service is always exceptional and the kitchen is open to modify meals to order. The bar and upstairs seating areas have a fun vibe, but there are also more private dining rooms that offer a quieter ambiance. Be sure to make a reservation for weekend dining, because tables fill up quickly!"

  • "my 50's burger was tasteful, but overpriced. It compares to the one I get at Johnny Rocket's for half the price. I also think charging $2.00 for an extra carrot on the hummus plate was a little much. Also an extra $2.00 for the gluten free roll was not expected. The side of brustle sprouts was also extra, which was not told to us when we ordered. One in my party wanted White Vinfindel, which you do not carry. I do have to say the service was good and although we were late, our table was held for us.."

  • "This was a great spot for our office lunch. The atmosphere at Republic is cool and rustic. Our server was very knowledgeable and efficient. We asked her about the sauce on the wrap and she was able to list the ingredients and really sell us on it."

  • "We have been here a few times. The menu is old and tired. The food was only so-so and the small plates were really,really small. The music and conveersation were loud. If you are not a twenty or thirty-something, your money would be better spent elsewhere. We will not return."

  • "We made a res thru Open Table for a date then we had to cancel due to snow and I called the restaurant since it was only an hour before the res time and spoke to the owner and postponed to the following day, same time. We arrived and were told we had no res and the restaurant was booked solid. Then they found a table for us, a side by side in the loft, which I normally love but not that table, besides it was extremely hot upstairs. We were seated next to crying baby table. No bread was served, we had to ask for it. Our waitress was a not friendly and seemed to be irritated. I am taking them off my fave list and not recommending to friends as I have done for so long. The food was decent however, their menu pricing is odd also."

  • "We had heard the buzz about this great spot just over the hill a while back. We simply had not been to Bloomfield for dinner in a while. We visited for the first time and were quite impressed! We booked on-line with Open Table the day of, and were surprised to see there were few spots available -- we had a 5:15 reservation and it was a good thing we did! The restaurant filled up and up! Regardless of the desire to seat others, we had a relaxing pub-style dinner--all great entrees cooked to order (but very hearty!) Choice selections of beers and wines . . . and unique cocktails. We were enticed by the Main Course entrees floating by . . . we'll try those next time."

  • "Reservations are essential for dinner at this popular spot, which tends to be very noisy due to the industrial style of the decor. On this busy and crowded night the waiter got my order wrong (probably due to the noise), but recovered admirably. New dinner delivered with dispatch, accompanied by a complimentary wine refill for my friend and me. Roasted salmon on lentils with green beans was excellent, and the baked cod was very good as well. Further apologizing for the mixup, the waiter comped dessert. We shared the Earl Grey creme brûlée, which was a unique take on this ubiquitous dessert. Finally, the waiter wrapped the incorrect dinner (a salmon burger) to go and did not charge for it. I've never been disappointed here."

However the young lady who sits us was not very welcoming, did not smile, had a callous attitude towards us and gave us a hard time when we politely asked to be seated at more desirable spot that was clearly available. Food was great, waitress was friendly but other areas of service needs more improvement."

  • "Republic offers a broad range of flavors at a medium price point. The homemade hummus dip and veggies was a great start, tart flavor, just the right amount. The cod with tomato and fava beans was a wonderful blend of flavors and a great choice when you are not looking for a heavy meal. The wine list was not extensive but we were able to find something that matched our food. The wait staff was very patient, as our small group sat and talked for three and 1/2 hours, finding the right mix of attentiveness and leaving us space. I will come back with family and recommend this place to others. A warm neighborhood haunt that could become a Friday night "default," comfort spot!"

  • "We were very excited to return to this favorite spot and order some world famous burgers. However, all 3 burgers were very undercooked. The rest of the food was fantastic. The server never came back to check after serving our food, so 2 people just ate them as is and one was unable to eat his burger as it was too rare."

  • "This was our first time to Republic, and as is the case with other Mill on the River restaurants, the food was great. This venue is lively, which is to say noisy, but this lent a vibrant quality to the conversation we had with our friends that evening. The service was good considering how busy the place was. Had we known the seating configuration ahead of time, we may have asked for a table on the first floor toward the front, which appeared to have a bit more privacy. The only true drawback to Republic is that it seems to have fallen victim to its own success: It can be difficult to find a parking spot, but like many others suffering the same fate, we left our car across the street since other businesses were closed."

  • "The is an energetic bar with really good American pub food. There's a good selection of light fare, appetizers, sandwiches and some entrees. We had the tuna tartar pizza which was really good. But the beer selections, in addition to the full bar, are great! Especially the local brews. I had the grilled veggie panini, which was a bit greasy, but very tasty."

Food was good, but for a restaurant that is supposed to specialize in burgers the types of burger concoctions were few and not very distinct. Although by burgers were good, it was not a distinctive as I had hoped. The burgers typically consisted of variations of carmelized onions with other fix-ins."

  • "I've been very excited to eat at Republic since it first opened; it comes from a group with a good reputation. We were seated in a small, attractive dining room in the front of the building. I gave the restaurant a noise rating of energetic. Truthfully, it was seriously noisy. It was a Friday night so service a little too slow. It was about 5 minutes to be told "I'll be right back", and another 5 to ask about drink orders. The food was very good. It was difficult to not pick a group of apps-they all looked good. We chose the calamari, which was terrific. The burgers and fish were perfect. One comment, both our fry orders were chewy as soon as they cooled. We'll be back when it's warmer. Maybe sit outside with a bottle of wine and apps."

  • "Aside from the north end, Bloomfield is not a very nice town. However the Republic and the micro brewery (who's name escapes me) are welcome additions to a town that is trying to reinvent itself. The building itself is charming and the Republic menu is diverse enough to appeal to a wide variety of people. I just wish they would remove the fish sandwich from the menu. As with many restaurants, the noise level from patrons was loud, but his was not the fault of the staff.....it's just one of those things that is a general problem in most restaurants. Keep up the good work."

  • "We had great expectations for Republic as we had heard good things, but were disappointed. Our server was uninterested and dismissive and the food was just "ok". The salad was overdressed to the point of being almost inedible. The fries with my husbands burger were cold and over salted, and the fried pickles, something we've enjoyed elsewhere, were greasy and the batter was far too thick. On a positive note, my salmon burger was wonderful! Possibly we hit it on a "bad night" but I don't think we will go back to find out."
