First time at this restaurant and enjoyed the setting and found the menu to be interesting. Our appetizer and entrees were quite good. Only issue was that the service was a bit slow as it was close to five minutes before anyone came by our table who could take our order. We were served water on arrival but not by a member of the wait staff. Will return and hope service is a little better.

We've been going to Reposado quite a bit since it opened. Lately the recipes seem a bit long-in-the-tooth. "One note" food is how one of the diners in our group referred to it. I had a pisco sour that was well made, but lacked any taste! Same with the food. This is a great place for a business lunch but we're going elsewhere for real food.

Great menu for Sunday brunch. We met family from out of town here on Sunday afternoon and it was perfect. Great food but can be a bit noisy (especially with screaming children) because of the acoustics so go at an "off" time. About 1pm on Sunday is when things calmed down a bit.

They could not execute on a basic tostada shell. It is supposed to be crisp, not wimpy. Small portions. Very high prices. No chips in a basket beforehand. That is another up-charge. Really?

The ingredients in the food seem very fresh and pure. Unfortunately, when the sliding windows are open, cigar and cigarette smoke drifts in from the street. The restaurant is also rather noisy, but you can still have a conversation. The staff are friendly.

I understand and appreciate the concept of small plates and tasting many different items but as good as it is, the prices are high for the amount you get and that includes the drinks. They are usually busy so clearly they can get away with the pricing. We live in downtown Palo Alto and would probably stop by more often but for the pricing of the SMALL plates.

  • Playing it Safe

Reposado has so much potential. I have had really great meals there. However, over the past two years, it seems that they are really trying to play it safe. The food isn't as spicy (or interesting) as it should be. It's food - it's cooked well. However, the real opportunity to make it shine is through innovative sauces and spice. Also, the salsa is served in tiny prep bowls in a manner that makes it difficult to eat - as if they are conserving it. For the prices they charge, the salsa shouldn't be so obviously restricted in portion size. The puerco pibil used to be phenomenal - but it's more subtle than it used to be, much less spicy, and the side mango-jicama-cucumber salad is much less boldly spicy than it used to be.

  • mixed feelings...$8 for chips?
    amoebaVIP
    Dined on 8/23/2014
The food is nearly always very good here & it was again today. The charge for chips irritates some, but I haven't minded. The thing is, the service has always been a bit lax. Good in some ways, but infrequent. Along w/the bag of chips they deliver 3 tiny bowls of salsa to a table of 3 adults. Getting refills of salsa is VERY unlikely & frustrating. For that reason, I tend to ask for a larger bowl of pico. Yesterday I did it again, but this time was a bit startled when the bill came to find we'd been charged $8 for the chips and salsa. Just one serving of chips & what seemed to be day-old pico. Their salsa is usually fresh, chunky & delish. This batch was from another day...refrigerated tomatoes....not to standard & the big charge.

Went for dinner, with reservations of course, on a Thursday night at 6:45. The place was packed. A bit surprising since it was so early. From the moment the rather unfriendly hostess told us we would have to wait for our table, I was disappointed. The bar was completely full, which left my party no where to stand but in the middle of the room while waiting for our table. Very awkward situation for us and servers as well. Once seated, the food and drinks were good but service was very rushed. The chips and salsa were whisked away from the table before I had a chance to try them all. Twice I had to tell the bus staff I was not finished with my plate. Did enjoy my meal but felt turning tables here was more important than the dining experience.

Made a reservation for a meetup group through open table and no credit card information was requested during the process. As usual, many people flaked at the last minute. When I arrived, only 2 of the 10 people who rsvp'd were there. I immediately let the waitress know that the others would not join, so they took the tables away, which were used immediately for other customers. The check comes at the end with a $105 fee on top of the bill for the 7 empty chairs. I spoke to the manager, who explained (with slight attitude) this is their policy. he said he would take care of it, but only this one time. They could have handled it differently. The policy should be explained at reservation. And they shouldn't surprise you on bill.

Son at Stanford and we are nearby to come to take him to eat -- and we are now scratching our heads as to why we haven't eaten here before. The food was fantastic -- interesting, bright flavors and beautiful presentation. The margarita special of the evening was delicious, fresh, and everything promised. The service was friendly and informed, if a bit slow, but the people watching kept us from getting bored or restless. Son gives kudos to the guacamole!

Upscale Mexican in downtown Palo Alto. The food's really tasty, the staff is helpful and nice. My only problem is the noise level. I guess with high ceilings and concrete walls that there's only so much you can do to dampen the sound of a bustling, full restaurant. I enjoyed it overall, and I'll be back again.

Upscale Mexican. Some of the sauces are to die for. I had the bean filled ravioli--just ok. The crepes con mariscos dish is very good. The guacamole is very good --chips are great. The small margarita is very small with lots of ice--could be a bit more generous. The empanadas and accompanying sauce is definitely worth having!

The ambiance is great, and it's definitely an upscale dining experience. But the food isn't up to the mark at all - expect to pay upwards of $20 for exactly three small bites of mediocre food. Plus, it took about 40 minutes for a relatively small order to arrive. It's especially bad for vegetarians.
