Diner Reviews
  • "The food was excellent -- no hesitation on that -- and we were seated immediately when we arrived an hour early. All good. However, we noticed that in the middle of the work week, at high noon, in downtown New Orleans, there was only one other table seated in this very large restaurant. This was our first visit to Rene Bistrot and really liked it, so we're baffled as to why no one was there for lunch. Perhaps it's more of a morning or evening haunt, we don't know, but it's quiet and good for lunch."

  • "Iris has a wonderful ambiance and my group enjoyed the decor. The staff was attentive and not fussy. Food very good. Lead to an evening of 2hours delightful dining and conversation for my business dinner. Will be back again!"

  • "This attractive restaurant whose French chef has been in NOLA for a while is under-appreciated. It does no advertising that I am aware of. so you can walk in without a reservation and be seated. The food is very good and the service attentive. Give it a try."

  • "There are too many great resturants in new orleans and we have been to most of then. We enjoyed Rene's when it was on Common st.and were disapointed --would not return."

  • "Walked in, te place was empty. Not a customer in the place. Took more than 5 minutes to decide where they were going to seat our party of 2. Not a good sign. We left."

  • "the food is very good here but the dining room for lunch was empty Maybe because its in a hotel and people assume the food will be mediocre. Worth a visit. I stopped in because the chef is well known and the food is authentic French."

  • "The food was very good. Prices were reasonable. The service was excellent. It is in an excellent location. The ambiance was a bit dated, but given it was Valentine's Day, the start of Mardi Gras and the NBA All-Star weekend, it was not easy to find a good restaurant that could take our dinner reservation. We were very pleased with Renee Bistrot. It should have a higher rating than what it has generally been given."

  • "Went for dinner on Valentine's Day and had a nice time. Food was good and service was lovely. Our only complaint was the time it took for the entrees to be served was entirely too long after the appetizer course had been cleared. The restaurant was not crowded enough to warrant the wait."

  • "The meal itself was very well prepared and presented. Clean plates, strongly executed. Our waiter (George) I believe, was very nice, friendly and accommodating. Overall a good experience. There were however a few issues that if addressed. I feel that I need to be careful how I word this as to not make George seem like a poor waiter, he was not. I do believe that he could have benefited from some assistance however. Simple touches like share plates for shared apps and crumbing the table between courses. We actually used our bread plates for share plates, also no app/salad forks were provided on the table set. Again, the food was very good, and George was great, but for every great waiter there is a strong assistant to help."

  • "My S.O. and I were visiting from NY. All of the recommendations we'd received from friends in the area were booked, but then my S.O. found this place. We were running late so I called and the hostess informed me that that wouldn't be a problem as they were not crowded. Upon arrival we realized that "not crowded" meant empty except for a few patrons at the bar and we found out why. The French onion soup and the service were decent, but the rest of our meal went downhill from there. My S.O.'s steak was sub-par and the breaded pork cutlet I ordered was pounded paper-thin to the point where I couldn't even determine where the meat ended and the breading began. I had to send it back, which I hate to do. At least they were nice about it."

  • "Ate here for New Years Eve. Food was routine and the wait staff very unprofessional and abrupt. We learned that Rene is no longer there but they continue to use his name and try to replicate his recipes. We were rushed through the entire meal and the manager was the person delivering the food! Will not return to this restaurant."

  • "the food was good , but not outstanding, presentation of the food was excellent, all of us were served at the exact time which was impressive. better details on the service with drinks, refills, picking up plates etc.. but overall I would recommend it"

  • "The food was nothing special. I had the veal which was a little dry. I would have enjoyed a burger at Daisy Dukes more."

  • "The food was a excellent treat for a Christmas brunch. We got there an hour and 15 minutes early hoping we could get seated and get a jump start on the trip back home. They did not hesitate to accomodate us."

  • "The wait staff and bar tender were definitely sub-par. It was Christmas Day and perhaps the wait staff didn't want to be there. No One seemed to be able to solve a problem (except for the supervisor who showed up later). The bar tender didn't know how to make a hot buttered rum and couldn't be bothered to look in the manual. The food was very good. The Marriott corporation is closing the restaurant soon and moving René to another hotel in this city."

  • "The food quality is over the top!! The menu is very interesting, broad and creative. The ceviche is a must. We had four people, all of us had a different entrée. Local fish, Veal Holstein, Flatiron Steak, and the Fresh Seafood Plateaux. All were just fantastic. The attention to detail, and preparation was unexpected, and welcome. The service was excellent and very attentive, with useful suggestions. All I can say is; Try it, Try it, Try it, you will not be sorry!!"

  • "We had some friends in from out of town and were really looking forward to dining here. Wow- the only thing good about our night was the company! Terrible service and completely unknowledgeable staff- I could go into details, but let's say it was up near the top of my worst dining experiences ever. We were the last table in the restaurant at 9pm on a Friday and it look over 30 minutes to get our food which was marginally edible at best. In a city full of wonderful restaurants, don't waste your time or money."

  • "The food was nice however the menu on line was not the menu available so there was disappointment that the scallops and duck were no longer on the menu The oysters were nice but small onion soup was lovely gulf fish entree was nice. Bread pudding was too dense. Wine was great but we never got the chance to order a second bottle. Service was not attentive once the entree arrived we were lost in the shuffle"

  • "The atmosphere felt very much like a mediocre hotel rest. The service was below standard for a no rest and the food was pretty uninspiring.; we will not be returning."
