A word from Rendez Vous Cafe Bistro
Rendez-Vous offers you great bistro dishes from all regions of France, prepared with simplicity and passion. Rendez-Vous is a great place for special occasions and any occasion.
This place is nothing special, but
it is a pleasant unpretentious place for a slightly French breakfast, lunch, or dinner."

Rendez-Vous Cafe Bistro gets
highest marks because of how inexpensively the establishment delivers excellent French comfort dishes. The food is unpretentious and generous in portion and in good flavor. The service is friendly and efficient, The reception is warm and genuine. We'll go back again and again and again!"

We have been going for years and
always love our food and service. Great French food."

Looking for a French restaurant to
celebrate my son's birthday. Found this French restaurant in the East Bay, since everything in SF was booked. More convenient for us, at least. Parking was a bit of a pain - took a few spins around the block to find a spot. Food, overall, was very good. What was disappointing was the service. Not sure if the breakdown was with the food server or the kitchen. First, my son's appetizer was served a good 10 minutes after our salads. Then, my other son's main dish was wrong and we had to send it back. That took another 10 minutes to get out. Not consistent at all. We didn't even bother to have dessert - went up Solano Ave for ice cream instead."

Food is delicious. Everything I've
tried is high value for price. Nicoise salad is best I've had. However, the service is ALWAYS too slow. Seems like it is chronically understaffed."

Pleasant neighborhood place.
Portions were large. Good food but not outstanding. We''re spoiled here in the East Bay. In other communities it would be a fine place to dine."

Just popped out for a Tuesday
night meal and then found myself in the midst of what seemed like a party. The whole restaurant was vibrant, great music, excellent food and many happy patrons. This is consistently my favourite restaurant - AND they seem to get better over time!"

The saving grace of our Sunday
brunch was the Quiche Lorraine which my stepmom exclaimed "the best I've ever had." I got the sweet potato "hash" which was cubed sweet potatoes and mushrooms, not really "hash" and was a weird addition to overcooked poached eggs. My husband's "big" breakfast which included eggs, toast, hash browns and I think, sausage, was "the worst breakfast I've ever had." Maybe lunch and dinner were better, but this was not inspiring brunch food. I could've done a lot better."

Informal, good prices and
delicious French dishes. The murals of Paris are a fun plus."

We often go to Rendez Vous. We
like the owner and staff. The food is good. On a cold night, the French onion soup is just right--and/or the mussels or coq au vin. Comfort food. Love the desserts, too, especially the apple crepes."

Right next to Albany Twin
theaters, and we go there for the good food (authentically French) good ambience, and a terrific location. We have been there probably 15 times, and never had anything but a great meal; the daily specials are wonderful and very fairly priced."

Consistently good foot and
service. And it always nice when the owner recognizes you and comes by to say hello."

I ordered the signature dish, beef
in mashed potatoes with vegetables and it was absolutely delicious. Amazing sauce! Unfortunately, the Malbec wine (from France) I ordered, left me disappointed. Great service and lively atmosphere. I will definitely return."

Not sure why this place says it's
French cuisine. There's nothing French about it! I ordered the Croque Madame, which I LOVE so much. I figured a French restaurant would get it right—just the opposite. The egg on top should be runny and it was hard. The bread wasn't prepared correctly, the meat and sauces were ordinary. It was like a regular bland ham and cheese sandwich that someone stuck an overdone fried egg on top of. No surprise, I sent it back and ordered something else... The replacement was equally as bad. It was the steak frites, which is a staple if they were REALLY a French spot. BAD, BAD and more BAD... had to send it back too. :( DON'T GO HERE—it's simply the worst French fair (or for that matter, any fair)!"
Dined on 10/10/2013
the kitchen or the service is VERY
slow = even when not crowded, it took almost 90 minutes to be served soup and a main dish."
Dined on 12/6/2013
I've finally learned what to order
and what to avoid here. The paella I recently had was awful--barely warm, with dry, overcooked seafood. I've also had bad experiences with other baked or stewed dishes, like the lamb stew and beef daube, but my friend liked her wild salmon on this evening. However, their French onion soup, Caesar salad with chicken and burger with caramelized onions and prosciutto are wonderful, so I will always keep coming back and recommending the place to my friends. I do wish, whether I eat something bad or good, that we wouldn't have to ask for bread nearly every time. It's frustrating!"

Great food and a great place. The
Albany Twin theather is right next door"

Bistro Rendez Vous on lower Solano
is lackadaisical -- in its service, ambience, and -- sadly -- in its food. You sense that this is what the average workman might expect to find in any small bistro in France -- but that's no excuse for food lacking flavor, imagination, quality. If you like your foods lightly flavored, then Rendez Vous is for you. In their great location and ample space, I hope this crew will boost themselves and their flavors out of the doldrums and into the potential their nice space and moderately well-heeled community offers."

I just returned from two weeks in
France--lots of omelets & fries--and found that the same meal at RendezVous was equal to the best in Paris, (including the lunch I paid $50 for). I also sampled some of my friend's luncheon special, and any restaurant on the Paris streets would have been glad to claim it, (at four times the price)! Great lunch, good service, really kind to the budget."

The food was excellent! My partner
had grilled salmon and I had the Coq Au Vin. Both were outstanding. We shared the Pisaladiere Tart appetizer and it was wonderful. Their menu has lots of authentic French cooking, and does not need to offer your traditional US meals. Ambiance is real Euro Cafe style, very appealing. We loved it. Some other diners have commented about the "slow" service. Don't believe them. Service is more European: the waiters actually talk with you, and don't try to rush you to eat and get out the door, as is the frequent American style. I would call the service relaxed, civilized."
Dined on 10/20/2013
The food is good., real, just like
in France.the prices are very reasonable . I highly recommend this restaurant :)))) and I will go back for sure. The only thing negative point is the noise but no more no less than all the restaurants I know. In your survey you suggest the option " energetic" for high level noise! It is not the right word, noise in restaurants is not energetic, noise is draining!! .....when are they going to work on the acoustic ?"
Dined on 10/20/2013
Good French Bistro food and
ambiance...but each time we go, we wish the wait staff would be more alert, and service was faster. To be seated and wait for the waiter to stop staring into space and come ask you what you want to drink...just so annoying. During the meal, wait staff passes you by, so it is difficult to get their attention...it was Friday night and only 2 waiters serving (one being the owner) and the place was beginning to fill up...maybe more staff needed..and thos working get better training."
Dined on 10/12/2013
The kitchen is ALWAYS unbelievably
slow. The place was quiet and pretty empty, but it took 40 minutes for 3 of the 4 meals to arrive ( 2 of which were salads) and an additional 5 minutes for my dish, also a salad. My friend's request for no eggs on his dish was ignored. The only advantage of the place is location.!"
Dined on 10/7/2013
The menu listed a great value for
3 courses at $26 that we tried. You could choose any appetizer, salad or soup to start. We chose the steamed mussels which surprised as to quantity. At least 3 dozen mussels were brought out in each bowl. Then you choose from around 5 entrees of which I chose the lamb stew. Stew was a bit bland and lacking vegetables. Then you choose a dessert of which I had the profferoles, puffs filled with vanilla ice cream. They offered creme brûlée, crepes, mousse as other choices. Overall food quality was only so-so but provided enough to eat at decent price."

A Parisan neighborhood bistro...is
the feeling and atmosphere of Rendez Vous Bistro. Delightful wait staff, French comfort food, reasonable prices, enjoyable atmosphere. Enjoyed the food...moules fritte, saumon, and the lamb navarin."

insalade Nicoise excellent. Service a bit slow (busy night), but very friendly."

Very sweet, excellent food, loved
the prawn cobb salad and the steak and pommes frites were excellent. Thumbs up!"

A wonderful small restaurant with
a well organized menu. All dishes are well composed and reflect well on the French style of dining almost throughout the day."

Outstanding in everyway treated
like we were family a must try"
Dined on 8/16/2013
Funny, not sure why we have not
tried this cafe sooner. Prices are moderate, nothing seemed too over-priced. However for salads and plain vegetables prices were higher, considering portion size(s). Still, everything was tasty. There's a friendly, neighborhood feeling to it. The owner is on site, greeting the regulars and making sure everyone is tended to -- regular or not. They also have a nightly set price menu option $26 for choice of (1 of 4 options) entree, house salad and any 1 dessert. We will definitely go back and recommend highly if you are looking for a simple, casual place for lunch or dinner in/around Albany."

This was a nice little place to
eat. I had the grilled eggplant sandwich on a wonderful rosemary roll. It was very tasty. My friend had the grilled chicken sandwich on the rosemary roll and she said it was delicious. My husband had the eggs benedict which he said was just ok. The eggs were cooked too much and the hollandaise sauce was a little too tart for him. Overall it was good food at a reasonable price."

My second visit was just as
delightful as the first. Wish there was live music more often than Tuesdays."
Dined on 8/2/2013
The cassoulet lacked its usual
punch. The sweet spot for dining seems to be between 7 and 8, to miss the rush of pre-movie diners, and after-movie diners."
Dined on 7/14/2013
Good place for modest-expectation
bistro food. Very good prices and freshly prepared classic offerings."
Dined on 7/12/2013
This is a gem of a restaurant.
Small, but cozy, with an owner with a great personality, who brings good french bistro food in an unpretentious and genuine manner that stands out in an already rich solano avenue food scene. Everything on the menu is solid and consistent. The moules with frites is a good bet, as is the salmon. the cocovan and cassoulet are both very good. The daily specials are definitely worth trying. Overall, a relaxed, friendly place with great food and reasonable prices."
Dined on 7/7/2013
A very long menu of French and
European dishes. The food was well prepared and the servings large. The prices are remarkable low for the quality. The bread was so so and the service was inattentive."
Dined on 7/1/2013
Casual and comfortable. Their
3-course fixed price Menu dinner, which includes any salad, selected entrees and dessert, is great. Good variety of appetizers, salads and entrees -- easy to come back again and again."
Dined on 6/23/2013
Cafe Rendezvous exceeded our
expectations. The interior decor is colorful but modest, with booths, tables, and outside dining. The food is excellent. Tasty French cuisine at a great price and with good service. The owner of the establishment is particularly personable. As for food, I recommend the Daube and Cassoulet. Both were great gourmet takes on French comfort cuisine. Every bite to be savored!"

We were there for a Father's Day
Brunch. While our reservation was known and we were sat immediately, we had to flag down a waiter to first order coffee and then our meal. We then waited more than 45 minutes to be served. Other tables that had been sat after us received their meals in the meantime. When we asked about the delay, the waiter told us that the kitchen was backed up. There was no apology for our long wait. I would not recommend this restaurant for times (like Father's, Mother's and Valentine's Day) when they may be too busy and their kitchen is unable to keep up."
Dined on 6/16/2013
This is a reasonably priced
restaurant with very mediocre food. Given its high ratings in other reviews, we were quite disappointed. We cannot see any reason to return."
