A word from Regalito Rosticeria
Regalito is a small Mexican restaurant committed to bringing the "market foods" of Mexico to San Francisco. The dining experience is immediate, the food is fresh, the preparation visible, and the service friendly. The idea for the restaurant was born during a meal at a Mexico City market stall; three women cooked from a small menu for a dozen customers sitting on benches surrounding the makeshift kitchen. No steam tables, minimal separation between cook and diner – instant community. Regalito has been designed to encourage community between the kitchen and our guests. The kitchen is completely open, separated by a simple wooden diner counter. Regalito offers free-range rotisserie chicken and Niman Ranch meats for eat-in and take-out orders. We are committed to using organic, local, and sustainable foods whenever possible. Regalito is the best place in San Francisco to eat authentic, hand made Mexican food.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was delicious! The service was on point! Must try the chorro's and hot chocolate! Freaken yum!"

  • "Food was awful. Hope it was an off night but, it did happen to be the worst Carne Asada dish I've ever had. Was the most expensive bad meal I've had."

  • "Roast chicken dish and accompaniments were good but they should take the ribs off the menu. Waiter warned they were dry but I don't mind dry, but tasty. Like the decor & the wait staff was excellent."

  • "Not sure if the menu is seasonal, but whatever happened to the cochinita pibil and the mole chicken? We had a serviceable pork shoulder dish and a mediocre pork ribs dish on our last visit. The ribs were dry and tough and didn't have a lot of flavor. They used to have an excellent cochinita pibil; would still recommend for brunch and dessert, but their dinner seems lacking."

  • "For the price, I would not say this is a good value (I even had a coupon). The entrées come in small portions. The desserts were odd: an undercooked churro with hot chocolate that was lukewarm; a guava with seeds that could break your teeth; and a tres-leche cake with strawberries that tasted like onion (don't use your salsa knife on dessert). The plastic chairs, the painted chipped walls, and the tight table in the corner by the serving station made for less than comfortable ambiance. But the service was great and the people were super friendly."

  • "We've been avid fans of Regalito Rosticeria since they opened. The food and service have never wavered. Just about anyway they serve pork you can be assured the end result is fantastic. There also a spit roast chicken that is always juicy and flavorful. They make their own corn tortillas that are delicious, homemade guacomole and salsa. Their deserts are also quite good. They do homemade churros with hot mexican cocoa as well as a white layer cake with strawberries which we can't get enough of. Not to forget the service which is outstanding. Their staff goes out of its way to make you feel welcome. Overall if you want some authentic Mexican food, then this is the place to go. Enjoy."

  • "This was third time dining at Regalito, although it's been nearly 2 years since my last visit. While the ambiance of the restaurant itself is charming (including a newly added patio area), the service and food missed the mark. Menu: The menu just doesn't cut it; the items are quite limited and the portions are small. They need to have one or two staple dishes on the menu. The prices are also quite high given how much food you actually get. The restaurant does not have a full bar. Service: Maybe they were off that night, but they only had one waiter and he was clearly spread very thin. I want to like Regalito for its charming atmosphere and good guacamole, but the menu + service just aren't that great."

  • "The menu is short but delicious. I want to return on a Tuesday night for their "pigalito" pork menu. And I LOVE that they didn't skimp on their tortillas for appetizers or entrees."

  • "The food was fresh, the wine was nice, Service was just OK, the food was nothing special. But fresh. I had garlic chicken but wondered where the garlic was, Kale was perfectly done, salsa side was nice. Guacamole needed a bit of something, although it was fresh and chunky. the place was packed though."

  • "The guacamole is out of this world, as is the sangria!"

  • "Dessert can be the best part of any meal! Although the guacamole appetizer is fantastic too!"

  • "We weren't impressed with our dinner experience. It was fine, but we went back because we had loved our brunch experience. Fine place for dinner, nothing was bad. In a neighborhood with so many excellent choices fine isn't good enough. We have pretty high expectations, looking for the wow factor when we eat out."

  • "We loved this little star....the reviews were spot on....intimate, comfortable and simple space, friendly and efficient staff, really, really good food. It was as advertised, and we only wish that we lived closer so eating there could be a regular event for us. Can't say enough good about this little neighborhood star!"

  • "Food was good, but like many authentic Mexican restaurants, expect dark meat chicken in the mix. We attempted to request all white meat chicken, but she clearly didn't understand and said it was all white. When it arrived, it included a mix of white and dark meat. At one point she asked if we wanted if without chicken...a pretty plain chicken enchilada...lol. All in all, fine for a casual meal, but don't expect a hip atmosphere or full bar"

  • "I've now been to Regalito a handful of times and each time I've gone I've thoroughly enjoyed myself! The food has been good, if not great, and the staff has always been very friendly. It's perfect for those nights that you're looking to have good mexican food but aren't up for a taqueria or "margarita first" places like Velvet Cantina or Puerto Allegre."

  • "Great ambience, excellent service, fanatic food. Vegetarians don't have many options, but the chile relleno stuffed with cotija and butternut squash is amazing. Maybe they'll feature some more veg options sometime?"

  • "The menus offered updated Mexican food that was excellent. The menu offered a lot of variety. Services was outstanding. Would definitely return."

  • "I visited Regalito many years ago and enjoyed the experience. Upon my last dining this weekend I must say that it was even a better experience. Our table enjoyed the Pork Ribs with delicious beans and mole chicken. All delicious. Great bottle of pinot noir wine from Argentina. Just a very laid back, easy evening of fun. I highly recommend it. Be aware if it's the weekend, parking is fierce."

  • "Regalito Rosticeria served some different dishes than other Mexican restaurants that we've experienced. The menu was limited but we enjoyed our shared appetizer & entrees very much. The Ensalada Nopalitos included grilled cactus, onion, tomato, garlic, queso fresco & crema was different and very tasty with sort of crunchy texture. I had the dry rubbed spare ribs which were very well seasoned and just a little bit spicy and served on top of a delicious base of very different refried beans. My wife had the very tender short ribs, that just melted in our mouths, with a large serving of mashed pumpkin squash. The only reason I did not rate the food 5 star was that we had a very disappointing mangos (sour) with a sweet caramel like sauce."

  • "The space is really cute, and the waitresses are super friendly and sweet. The guacamole was bland, so that was a disappointing start. The papas con chorizo could've used more complexity. The cochinita was quite flavorful, but the accompanying beans weren't. The sangria was the highlight of the evening."

  • "For those who think that "Gourmet Mexican" is an oxymoron, then Regalito Rosticeria is not for them. No assembly-line burritos here, but a menu of authentically prepared dishes with ultra-fresh ingredients. The two dishes we ordered (roast chicken and pork ribs) were a bit over-priced and over-spiced. Nonetheless, we enjoyed them. Service was superb!!"

  • "Excellent food. We had the chilaquiles and enchiladas. While there was a little extra moisture in the food, it was delicious. The service was great and very attentive without being pushy."

  • "If you love pork like me, this is the restaurant to go to. Carinitas, ribs, tacos chops etc. all made out of yummy tender pork! The guacamole was a little bland, but when he offered the spicy salsa that was a winner!"

  • "At Regalito you get an enthusiastic welcome, good service and inexpensive food that is well-priced. That's a hard to beat combination."

  • "Their guacamole with house-made crisp corn tostada is delicious. I like their Pollo Regalito with the chard side dish. Always so enjoyable to eat here."

  • "Delicious guacamole. Friendly service. Well prepared food. Limited number of tables except for communal table and counter. Very difficult parking in this neighborhood or I would go again."
