Diner Reviews
  • "Our food was outstanding. The atmosphere and ambiance were great. The only downside was the service. My wife was unfamilar with the sauces that were offered with the fish. She stated this to our server and instead of giving a brief description of each sauce, he asked which ones she wanted a description of. The server was extremely slow with our drinks and forgot to bring my dinner beverage. By the time he came back and I pointed this out to him it was time to order dessert so, I declined my dinner drink and got a coffee. I know it was a Friday during lent so, we really didn't mind the service and the awesome food more than made up for it. The only reason I did not give an outstanding overall rating was the service."

  • "We have been to the updated Reel Seafood 3 times now. The oysters are great. The service is still very good. The portions are small for the price and you get no side dish. My salmon was good but it was a strip 2 inches wide as was the swordfish. The plates are nothing special to look at, mased potatoes plopped on a plate with a meager serving of fish for $25!"

  • "It was our first time to Reel Seafood Co. and it was fantastic! Friends had suggested we try it so we did for my birthday dinner and we were not disappointed! We will be coming back soon!"

  • "I had lunch recently at the new Reel Seafood and I can say the word improved can be added too. My husband and I had a horrible dinner experience there about a year and a half ago so we were bit bit hesitant about the so called new but decided to give the young owner a chance. We were pleasantly surprised! We loved the ambience: clean lines, modern , bright and just clean! Our lunch though simple was perfect. We had a lump crab, avocado, cherry tomato salad with a very light lime/cilantro dressing which I requested on the side. Our waiter was efficient and personable. Prices were normal for an upscale seafood restaurant. We WILL go back for dinner and hopefully we will have the same experience!!"

  • "I had dinner with friends on a busy Saturday evening. It was our first visit for dinner since the renovations and we were not disappointed. The new decor and menu are perfect for a contemporary seafood restaurant. The fish was fresh. well-prepared and accompanied by our picks from an interesting list of sauces and sides. A suggestion from my escargot-loving friend: MORE GARLIC! The rest of us started with crisp, cold, better-than-average salads. With very good service at the bar and at our table, we all look forward to a return visit."

  • "We were frequent patrons before the renovation. This was the first visit since the reopening. Food was over priced and fish was chewy or under cooked."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our dining experience at Reel Seafood very much. The new menu and décor was fabulous. We'll be recommending the restaurant to all our friends."

  • "Our party of (8) celebrated an anniversary and had a wonderful evening. Our table of (8) was ready upon our arrival. The entire party was pleased with their dinner choices, but the wasabi encrusted halibut was a favorite hands over! The oysters and clams were fresh and delicious. Although we were full, we could not resist dessert; the banana foster and coconut cream pie were big hits. We will be back again - thank you for the excellent food and service!"

  • "I visited Reel Seafood for Restaurant Week. I was quite charmed by their menu choices for the occasion. They put thought into putting their best foot forward for the week. The Atlantic salmon was very nicely presented--I really felt like taking a picture of the dish before I started eating."

  • "Your resturants rant is represented in a large manner by your server. Pour server was not up to standards. She was undFriendly in attentive didn't,t offer us an appitiser or salad just took the order and left. The food came out way to fast and when done , she without a word plunked the bill on the table and left. A poor waitress and represenative .i will rake my guests to the Bonefish Grill from now on Chris Hoffman"

  • "My wife and I do not go out much, so when we do its usually for seafood.Look this restaurant up on line, checked out the menu, liked what we saw and made reservations right on the site. Absolutely no regrets. Staff was excellent and the food was well worth the drive.thank you."

  • "I remember the Reel Sea Food Co. for it's fresh seafood and it's professional staff and owners. The restaurant has been renovated and updated but the real reasons we choose to patronize has not; consistent and imaginative food, good prices, caring, attentative employees and a concerned, hands on ownership that make you feel welcome and special."

  • "First time in a while, place looked good. Very good service. Chowder tasted off, slaw was room temp. Fish sandwich was good. Didn't want to complain. Hope this helps. Love to come back and try again."

  • "We were curious about the changes that had been made to the 'old' Reel Seafood (RS) one of our favorite spots and this was our first visit to the 'new' RS. We were not disappointed. The menu has changed somewhat but the attention to detail has not. It's still one of our favorite places to dine."

  • "The oysters on the half shell were excellent. Menu contained many fresh and new selections not found anywhere else. Service was fantastic and ambience great. Would definitely go back for a a special occasion."

  • "Great dinner. I loved the beef and scallops but after having both I should have ordered all fish. The beef seemed subpar compared to the scallops. Choices were great as was desert. Staff was awesome and seemed pleased to help."

  • "I've been dining at Reel Seafood for years and have always enjoyed their food. And each executive chef brought something different to their high quality seafood. But now they have a new chef who's dramatically revamped and enhanced the menu. The food is exquisite and sophisticated and the restaurant is a gem this far inland from the sea. I went with a business client and I'll tell you this meal made for a successful meeting. We started with the Grand Raw Bar Platter and Blue Lump Crab Salad which were both amazingly fresh and flavors were well balanced. For our entrees, I had the Stuffed Haddock where the fish was cooked to perfection. And my client had the Wasabi Pea Crusted Halibut which he said was delicious. Keep up the great work."

  • "If you love seafood, this is the place to go in the Capital Region. This was my first time there since they remodelled and established their new menu. They did a great job with the renovations and the new menu is outstanding!"

  • "My husband and I each ordered the clam chowder. We found it to be very bland. I had the lobster salad with pomegranate dressing. The server told me the lobster was served hot over the salad. However the lobster was cool and the dressing was pretty tasteless. My husband had the wasabi encrusted halibut. It was amazing! I am really looking forward to returning just to order that meal."

  • "Enjoyed the meal and setting was nice. Meal choices weren't all uniformly good. Flavoring was either missing or a bit off. I expected they would be based on previous meals at the Reel Seafood, prior to their makeover. Menu also seemed a little bit limited."

  • "Always enjoyed our time here, and the food. Love the blue theme! Thanks for the free glass of wine/voucher. New menu gave us some adjusting time; miss the sweet potato fries (they were the best), but my crab and avocado appetizer was the crown of my meal. Huge chunks of blue crab and lots of avacado! Hubby loved Oysters and Halibut. Sea scallops were cooked to perfection, and chocolate cake was delicious. The very plain mashed potatoes were a disappointment, but I didn't need the carbs. Only downside to this meal was a noisy, whiney patron at the next table. We were halfway through our meal when she was seated, and overheard her balking at her man all the way through. Of course, not the restaurant's fault. Still a favorite spot with us."

  • "wanted to try Reel Seafood since i read about the transformation. The interior is lovely and modern and the service is warm and attentive. Nice pizza dough rolls served with a variety of spreads. Fish is fresh and well prepared. It's not gourmet, but delicious options prepared in a variety of manners. I had miso sauce on sea bass and it was delicious but the brussel sprouts were a disappointment. My husband had the lobster ravioli which he enjoyed, but they weren't the best he's ever had. Shrimp cocktail wonderful. It's pricey for Wolf Road but you will find it hard to find better or more fish and seafood selections in the region at such a central location. We will return."

  • "Food was good but a little pricey. Limited selection and many of the meals we used to enjoy are no longer available since the renovation. The renovation has really modernized the place though. Fish tank was absolute beautiful and now a real nice bar. Drinks were not cheap and were only so so. Dessert menu was especially limited and way too boring. With the new atmosphere, we would like to have seen more fruit offerings ( raspberry, kiwi etc. concoctions). Service though was superb. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. Might go again sometime, but since there are so many other restaurants in the Albany area with good food, more expansive menus and less expensive entrees, It won't be as often as we go to other restaurants in the area."

  • "Our first opportunity to visit after the makeover. A lovely job! While the 'management' of this longstanding gem has been passed to the next generation the restaurant seems to suffer from some of the hiccups of a new operation. Seems like lots of folks wanted to see the new place Saturday evening and the kitchen couldn't quite keep up. The food was great ... Oysters Rockefeller were superb and swordfish cooked perfectly! Partner's fried oysters (which she made a meal of with a double appetizer order) were cooked perfectly, not too crisp, and sauces (tartar & cocktail) were the perfect accompaniment. If not for the slow food delivery and unfortunate table placement would have been a five star evening. Can't wait for the patio to open!"

  • "This was our first visit to the "new" Reel Seafood Restaurant. We always enjoyed the original restaurant and the food was always good. Our food was okay, not bad and not really great. For the price, I would have expected a better meal. Maybe after they have worked out the kinks with the new menu, we will visit again. One positive was our server who was very good."

  • "My husband, a friend and I recently went for dinner at the remodeled Reel Seafood restaurant. The décor is bright and welcoming as is the staff. However, the prices have risen since they have remodeled and the value for the cost has vanished. Our wait person was prompt in bringing water, drinks and salads but service was spotty at best after that. The menu is a la carte and a rather small salad with barely only a hint of blue cheese dressing cost $6. We had to request bread from another staff member and then our entrees were delivered when our salads were barely half finished. The entrees were very good but the portions only adequate. However, the poor timing when the restaurant was not yet busy seemed inexcusable. Lunch yes, dinner, no."

  • "Glad to have RSC back. New menu is good. Sorry to see some of the old Favs gone. The owners and managers always make us feel welcome. We dine ever Christmas Eve with RSC as a family. Interior is very upscale now. My daughter loves the large fish tank. Great raw bar selections. Best oysters in town."

  • "The whole experience was wonderful! The new renovations give the place an upbeat, modern feel. The new menu? Awesome! I had the Chilean sea bass and have to say it was the best fish I've ever eaten. Service was fantastic."

  • "House salad had too much lettuce even for size large plate. Messy to look at and to eat. Wasabi pea coated halibut excellent, as promoted by the server. Kind, timely service. New decor most attractive."

  • "The raw oyster, shrimp & tuna appetizers were excellent. The scallop, lobster & beef entrees were also perfectly prepared and presented. Service was professional, attentive and helpful without being obtrusive. (Just don't order the King Crab Legs, unless you are willing to wrestle with the shells that the kitchen should have split.)"

  • "It was okay . We liked the old menu and didn't mind the cost but the meals with the new owner and chef were not great, the portions seemed small and it was still pricey. I had a seafood dinner and my husband a steak and lobster. There wasn't a lot of flavor with either."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Steak was ordered medium came out well done with no pink and charred on the outside. King crab legs were cold when first given out at the table."

  • "We went on Valentines Day, early in the evening. We were seated in the atrium, which is not a preferred section. The couple ahead of us new the owner and was seated in the main dining room. The lobster is very pricey and comes with no sides, ridiculous and greedy, but I went ahead and ordered. The oysters were very good as was the halibut. The service (Colleen I believe) was the standout, well done! We will return but not order the lobster unless they change what comes with it."
