Our appetizers looked and tasted very nice but took about 40 mins to reach us, and meals were generally OK. One of our entrees (Chilean Sea Bass en Papilotte) tasted "fishy", not in good way, and the accompanying risotto and veggies were bland and mushy). I had the Tuna Poke for an appetizer, and think it must have been foul because about an hour after I got home I was violently ill. This was very disappointing, as I ahve never had anything but fresh, safe seafood at this restaurant.

I remember when the Real Seafood Company opened 27 years ago and was run by LaGrand. Now that his daughter has taken over and did the renovation the prices are sky high. How do you charge $24.00 a pound for lobster? How do you charge $10.00 for 6 Cherry stone Clams? How do you charge $19.00 for a 5 oz lobster tail??? Although the service was good the food was just so so with very little flavor, not to mention the small portions.

The kids' grilled chicken & filet overcooked. Some of the adult portions were very small for the price. The staff was either overwhelmed or there was not enough working because the meal was slow in coming to the table. If you want to eat appetizers only, that would be your best choice because they were very good. For the money we spent, we expected better. We will not be dining there again.

First and foremost, we enjoyed the best scallops we have ever eaten. Simply amazing! The shrimp cocktail was also rated as one of, if not the best, we've had. Our short ribs were very flavorful. The cauliflower puree was not. It was cold and flavorless. We both agreed that our dinner would have been complete and over the top if you had mashed cauliflower. Our dinner was sadly missing that one more element. We were also disappointed when our server said we could not substitute another seafood item on an appetizer we considered ordering (we don't eat oysters). She also said no when we asked if we could take creme brulee home as our dessert. Over-all a very nice dinner. My next visit will be all scallops. They were that good.

I had a great experience at Reel Seafood. I was greeted warmly, seated promptly and served well. I had scallops and brussel sprouts with bacon both of which were delicious. The scallops were not rubbery and the brussel sprouts had a great roasted flavor and were perfectly tender. I would visit this restaurant again if I lived in the area.

The generously sized portion of halibut was cooked to perfection-flaky and moist. However, there was not a noticeable wasabi flavor at all. The only flavor was salt, both on the fish and in the accompanying sauce. The restaurant was very busy and I am glad we had reservations. It is college graduation weekend locally. The decor is nice, with giant fishtanks dividing the dining area from the bar. Seating is well laid out in the main dining room, but a little tight in the smaller side dining room. However, it was quieter there, so I was glad that's where we were seated. Varied wine list, but our waitress was not very knowledgable about the offerings.

Pleasant decor, especially the large fish tanks, but noise level is VERY loud. Service adequate. Bloody Mary celery stick garnish was brown and dry on end, drink itself was bland. Poached turbot came surrounded by slices of cucumber that were limp, not sauced or seasoned in any way. Chicken Ballantine was good except the arugala in the center of the plate was too salty. We made a 5:30 reservation and the dining room was all but empty, but when we requested not to be seated on the banquette they tried to force us to a booth next to the kitchen rather than one of the many free ones in the dining room. Overall, pretentious and unwelcoming.

I was looking forward to the new Reel Seafood but was somewhat disappointed. It is now all Ala carte which makes it more expensive. For a seafood restaurant not to have a shrimp entree is unreal. You could get shrimp scampi but only as part of a surf and turf which was disappointing. Another disappointment was the rolls. Although similar to their former version, they were very dry and not as good.

We had reservations for a six-top at 7:15 and were seated promptly upon arriving, then things went downhill. After being seated we had to wait for over half an hour for a server to visit our table! It was NOT busy either, I think there was one server per table. It was another equally long wait for the drinks to come out (no fancy bar drinks either). The server also stayed in the kitchen most of the night so we had to ask other servers for many basic things. The food was NOT FRESH, and obviously just thawed. A few of my crab claws were even still a bit frozen - I had to wait for my food to thaw before eating! The only reason I didn't give the food a "Poor" rating is because others seemed to enjoy their meals. The ambiance was nice enough.

Probably the best restaurant in the area for Seafood. Did the seafood tower for my 91 year old seafood loving mother on Mother's Day. She was in heaven, she then ordered the Cioppino for an abundance of more assorted seafood. Calamari was rubbery and charged an extra $5.00 for Pasta which is absurd. Delicious hot rolls. I ordered short ribs and scallops which was kind of chinchy for the price. My girlfriend ordered the sea scallops which were perfect and generous portioned. Overall, pricey but seafood done well.

Mother's Day brunch - 6 people in party Good: Staff and service very friendly Bad: Food was sub-par. Very small, thin cut of Chilean sea bass, surprisingly undercooked, tasteless and a little strong. Other diners had hanger steak, again small and "just ok" not great. Other entrees were Ahi Tuna - Black & Blue, while tasty, was extremely spicy. I like very spicy food, but someone who likes an average spice would not be able to eat this without a gallon of water on the side! Speaking of heat, the restaurant was ridiculously stingy with the air conditioning! A look around the room saw many diners, besides us, voraciously fanning themselves and uncomfortable! Guess they wanted a quick turnover!!! Summary: I will not go back.

We , my husband ,daughter and myself, went to the "new" Reel Seafood Sunday night as we wanted to support a local restaurant and the new young owner. Had a reso and were seated immediately upon arrival. Service received 3 stars because after the hostess left us at our table that was it for a while in terms of service. After about 10 mins our waitress popped up. Meanwhile we saw 4 -5 servers milling around. Not even water glasses were filled. Service was fine after we were discovered. Food : I had the wasabi encrusted halibut , was perfectly cooked though I would have enjoyed a little bit more wasabi flavor. The rib and scallop was marginal. Overcooked scallops i.e. dry and chewy. Cioppini was well prepared, broth tasty.

Reel Seafood in Colonie has had a checkered history. When new, it was great. After ownership changes, "Real Seafood" became "Reel Seafood" and dining slumped. For many, such as myself, there were disappointing meals (I was once served an hunk of fish still frozen). When Bonefish Grill opened to crowds nearby, Reel Seafood must have realized changes were in order. The new, renovated, revitalized restaurant reopened to acclaimed. We found the place packed on a Tuesday night. New decor was pleasant and interesting. Our appetizers, fresh oysters and shrimp, were fine. Salads were crisp. Disappointment came with the entrees. My halibut was ok but my wife's haddock looked and tasted like undercooked scrod. The jury is still out.

My wife and I received a 100 gift card as a wedding present. We got a mixed drink, a soda, 3 apts, the swordfish and the halibut, 1 desert and 1 espresso. Our total with 20% tip was $144. Too much for what we got. The clam chowder was 10/10 the best item we had. Half of my swordfish was flavorful, the other half have no taste at all. I would go back, but I would try to find the other "chowder" gems in their menu.

This was our 2nd visit to the remodeled Reel Seafood. The ambience is very much changed; the lighting is conducive to a romantic interlude. The Chief Hostess, with her stunning outfits and cheery disposition, is very much in charge of ensuring that all needs are met. The service as always was impeccable. The salad was crisp, fresh and especially tasty with the Green Goddess Dressing Ro had the Chilean Sea Bass roasted in a papyrus bag with lemon, spices, and a plethora of interesting vegetables. I had the Black & Blue Tuna, served with baby Bok Choy, Japanese noodles, & Eda Mame beans, in a delightful sauce with just enough spice to tickle the back of your throat. We look forward to our next culinary adventure at the Reel Seafood.

Our food was outstanding. The atmosphere and ambiance were great. The only downside was the service. My wife was unfamilar with the sauces that were offered with the fish. She stated this to our server and instead of giving a brief description of each sauce, he asked which ones she wanted a description of. The server was extremely slow with our drinks and forgot to bring my dinner beverage. By the time he came back and I pointed this out to him it was time to order dessert so, I declined my dinner drink and got a coffee. I know it was a Friday during lent so, we really didn't mind the service and the awesome food more than made up for it. The only reason I did not give an outstanding overall rating was the service.

I had lunch recently at the new Reel Seafood and I can say the word improved can be added too. My husband and I had a horrible dinner experience there about a year and a half ago so we were bit bit hesitant about the so called new but decided to give the young owner a chance. We were pleasantly surprised! We loved the ambience: clean lines, modern , bright and just clean! Our lunch though simple was perfect. We had a lump crab, avocado, cherry tomato salad with a very light lime/cilantro dressing which I requested on the side. Our waiter was efficient and personable. Prices were normal for an upscale seafood restaurant. We WILL go back for dinner and hopefully we will have the same experience!!

I had dinner with friends on a busy Saturday evening. It was our first visit for dinner since the renovations and we were not disappointed. The new decor and menu are perfect for a contemporary seafood restaurant. The fish was fresh. well-prepared and accompanied by our picks from an interesting list of sauces and sides. A suggestion from my escargot-loving friend: MORE GARLIC! The rest of us started with crisp, cold, better-than-average salads. With very good service at the bar and at our table, we all look forward to a return visit.
