We ordered the Alaskan King Crab legs....have to be honest it's the first time I've left a restaurant hungry. We ordered 1/2 lb each but legs were cut in half, barely any meat and they were cold. If it were not for the fries and the bread we surely would have left hungrier than we did. I think I will stick to buying my own and preparing them at home. The waiter was great though!

We always enjoy eating there and this was a group of eight. All were very satisfied with their meals. I didn't give it five stars because they had a set price of $24/pound for lobster and lobster is currently under $6/lb so I thought that should have been adjusted.

Been going here for years...love the new menu & decor! Food & selection is fabulous. Only complaint is that its a little loud due to open floor plan. Needs a little more soundproofing/fabrics on walls. Other than that, we love it! A true gem for the capital district.

We've been going to this place every time we travel to Albany. (4-5 times a year) We love seafood, and this was our favourite place for crab legs. This time, though, the crab legs were cut in halves, dry, hard and almost cold. The waiter seemed to take our complaint personally, and gave us dessert of His choice to compensate for the meal. That dessert was some fried bananas over french toasts with melted ice cream. Looked like it had been standing somewhere... and he decided to pass it on.

It's my favorite place to come when I am in town. The room off the side is the best for business or get togethers. The main dining is still loud. Love the food and great service.

  • Where's the Snapper?

I ordered the whole snapper. After we ordered the waitress returned to say they were out of the whole fish. I then ordered the filet of snapper. By and by the manager appeared to tell me that my fish was over -cooked and they'd be making me a new one. My companions were served before I was, but I urged them to eat their meals, two of which were Shellfish Cobb salads, the other the stuffed chicken roll. My fish arrived but was not crispy as promised in the menu. I enjoyed it anyway with the jasmine flavored rice and cold seasonal vegetable, a kind of zucchini slaw. Our appetizers were great. Three of us had buttermilk batter dipped fried oysters. One of us had the "jumbo" shrimp cocktail. The shrimp looked medium sized. Delicious anyway.

The atmosphere is really nice. My husband and I ordered the Tuna poke as an appetizer. It was prepared like Tuna tartare. I ordered the Beet carpaccio as my entree and my husband had a House salad with blackened shrimp. We enjoyed the "entrees." As far as the appetizer goes, the taste of the tuna itself was good but my husband was up all night and I wasn't feeling well either. We think it was the Tuna poke appetizer. It was served with a pool of spicy oil on either side of the tuna for dipping. The oil seemed like hot oil which you typically use for frying. I used it sparingly but I think the combination just wasn't supposed to be together and it made us ill. We won't be going back.

We were a group of 7. It was very difficult to have a conversation due to the noise because it was very busy. Our group liked the decor very much. overall, we felt the service needed improvement. Filling water and removing dishes. We arrived at 6:30 and left at 8:45, so it took longer that we expected. Mixed reviews on the food. I liked my Swordfish special. The salmon dish comments were that the entrees were not hot.

We had a large group dining on a Friday night and everyone was pleased- not an easy feat. The seafood was phenomenally fresh and those who stayed with the "land" menu were satisfied as well. We were comfortable with the amount of space provided and the ambiance. I would not hesitate to bring my family again, with my only complaint regarding the family-friendliness being that there is not a baby changing station in the restroom.

The "NEW" Reel Seafood has lots of potential. The last time we visited this establishment, about 5yrs ago, it was old and mediocre with the fish tasting like iodine. This is no longer the case. A new owner took over in January and totally redid the whole restaurant. Although the food was cooked perfectly, we felt that the sauces and dressing should have been more tasteful and not as thin. The main courses needed a bit of color to liven up the dishes. For the price of the meal we expected perfection and not just good. We are truly hopeful that the new owner can live up to this since we are looking forward to return and become regulars if they can make these changes.

We go to Reel every year after the Track. This year we were pleasantly surprised to see all the renovations and updates to the restaurant and patio. The restaurant has an airier feel inside with no high walls, the banquettes, blue oval light in the ceiling, and the mod silver "chandelier". Also love the stramlined menu, with more "small" choices, instead of a huge meal. Service was attentive without being intrusive. We all ordered apps with raw bar clams cold, sweet and delicious. Fried oysters and oysters rockefeller were sublime. Crab cake had a little too much filler and the taste was bland. Drinks were fine and prices just right. We'll be back later in the meet to do it all over again!

We have returned to the renewed Reel Seafood 4 times. We go for the really good oysters. Monday's are 30% off lobster dishes, however the waiter did not tell us when we asked. At that point we could hear him telling all the new tables around us what the specials were, including an oyster special that we were not told about. He did ask us how the oysters were, we got 2 of each that they had available - 6 total - they were excellent except two which were really gritty, and he replaced them immediately. The service turned out good overall after a slow start. The food is good, but expensive for portion size, the salmon piece was very small.

I was not at all impressed. The food was undercooked from the vegetables to the seafood. Luckily, I didn't have steak (my husband did)as it was dry and rubbery looking. The food was definitely over priced. The menu didn't provide enough seafood options, I guess that's why they were priced so high. This was a $142 dollar lesson learned.

We celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary at Reel Seafood this past week. In deciding where to go to celebrate, we went over our favorite restaurants: Provence, Creo, New World Bistro, etc. but then my wife mentioned Reel Seafood and I said, Oh yeah - we haven't tried it since the renovation! We're so glad we did! Kristine, our waitress was terriffic - explaining the menu and always being attentive. Rick? let us sample the Macallan 15 and Aliki stopped by to wish us a Happy Anniversary. The complimentary desserts were much appreciated as well. Thanks!!

Recently renovated. Every element of the meal was exceptional. We had appetizers and dessert... everything was on the same high level. A gentleman who set up a number of legal seafood restaurants in MA -- has his quality finger prints all over the wine list. Bar area was very cool - with a fish tank wall that was pretty special. Absolutely loved it and was surprised (in a good way) at the quality of the meal.

Our first visit since they remodeled + changed chefs. Remodeling was nice; a little stark perhaps. We didn't like the new menu; that's more a preference than a criticism. They were a bit more traditional; I guess this is more modern. We had reservations + were seated immediately, but they were not crowded. Server was pleasant + knowledgeable. I had Oysters Rockefeller appetizer; two of the four oysters were gritty and dish was a bit bland and did not taste fresh. My short ribs + scallops entree was just OK. Risotto was a bit under cooked for my taste. My wife's filet mignon looked like it hit a too hot grill. Outside was seared a bit too much + center was more rare than the desired medium; demi glace sauce was very salty.

    Dined on 6/29/2014
Not sure what the problem was with the kitchen. I had seared tuna which was cold by the time they brought it out. It should be served as soon as it is prepared and not left on the counter until someone gets around to bringing it to the table. Wife ordered steak & lobster tail. The server brought the steak which tasted as if it was microwaved. When asked about the lobster tail the waitress acted like she didn't know anything about it. After checking with the kitchen she told us that the lobster didn't cook right and they were making another one. When she finally brought it out the lobster tasted like it had been soaking in dish water. It was nasty. The manager "graciously" offered to take it off the bill.
