  • "Had good food and great service. We were there early and the restaurant was not crowded at all. Imaginative food, great service in an pm upbeat setting."

  • "Redwood is nestled into Bethesda Row, although the map and instructions had us looking for "Hagar Lane". We have always seen the restaurant while shopping (across from Le Creuset store) and wanted to try it out. Without trying to, we ended up inside. We went on a Spring evening with the sun still shining but a cool breeze. The shelter of the complex cut off the breeze and only affected the sunlight later in the evening. The big, open windows were great for people watching at all times. The menu choices reflect their attempt to set their cuisine apart from the other restaurants, with twists and differences that sent us looking up some items on our cellphones. Yet, all four of us (2 Boomers, 2 Millennials) were happy with our selections. "

  • "If they just made a little effort, this could be a great restaurant...missing are the special touches in food presentation and caring service that made a good restaurant better. Food is uneven quality."

  • "Stumbled upon this spot once out looking for brunch with a friend. They had delicious bottomless mimosas. I enjoyed the Penne dish, which was just right. Not too creamy, but very flavorful with lots of fresh vegetables and grilled chicken. I definitely recommend it. Went back this past weekend with an out-of-town friend. We loved the ambiance. It was quiet enough to sit back and relax. Good service both times. Courteous hostesses and waiters. I'll definitely go back when I'm in the area next."

  • "Of the four of us dining, three of us found the meal to be less than mediocre. I ordered a burger with Swiss cheese and made a point to say that I wanted it cooked between rare and medium rare. When it arrived, it had no cheese and it was medium to well done. One of our diners asked specifically about how the roasted chicken was done. She was told it was a half chicken on the bone. When it came, it was just the breast meat off the bone. Our wait staff was polite, but not very forthcoming in her description of the chicken dish and not very attentive to whether the order was correct. We have had good meals there in the past, but really fin fit very inconsistent. And the menu somewhat limited."

  • "We met some friends from out of town at Redwood for lunch. The food was very good BUT it took too long time to be served. There was a large party going on in part of restaurant. We had to ask for our salads. Then the manager rushed our food to us and was very apologetic. They got the order - which had a few minor changes - completely correct and the food was very tasty. The manager sent over dessert menus and "bought" us a couple of desserts. That was smart! We will go again. We like the setting, the food and usually the service."

  • "Redwood couldn't have a better location in downtown Bethesda's walking promenade. Maybe that's the reason they never really got there food together. The location is so perfect and so easy and so perfectly placed for people watching and being seen that it's hard to resist patronizing the restaurant. But the food never excelled and at first the service was weird. Last Tuesday night the mussels were tasteless and rubbery, the greens were wilted and the tomatoes were almost bitter. The bright light was the bread and the veggie burgers are still very, very tasty. Our waiter was great, taking time to talk even though she was busy -- and her service didn't suffer."

  • "The food is good, but nothing incredibly impressive to outweigh the poor service. Our waitress took a very long time to bring us our drinks. Did she not want us to finish them off and order another? And she hardly checked in on us, in spite of being right around our table, and the restaurant was not very busy at the time of our visit. I'm not sure what to think. If I leave a restaurant grumbling about bad service, it's likely that I won't be back..."

  • "I have walked by this restaurant many times and haven't ventured in until recently. The food was delicious; the service was lovely and I would definitely return."

  • "I tried the 2 for $16 lunch and was very pleased with the options. Because I was working, I wasn't able to choose from the wine option so I selected the veggie burger which came with salad or fries. I chose the salad and the dessert option The burger was delicious. Moist and flavorful and the bun was like a brioche bun. The greens were abundant and served with a light dressing. I chose the S'mores dessert. What a treat. Chocolate mousse encased by a crunchy graham cracker crust and served with marshmallow ice cream. Would definitely return when I'm in the area."

  • "Redwood is our favorite Bethesda restaurant amongst a very strong group of restaurants that we love. We truly appreciate how sensitive they are to food allergies in addition to everything else that is wonderful about the place."

  • "We love this place because they offer a tasting portion of wine in addition to full glasses. The flat iron steak is a can't miss entree. Try the brussel sprouts. Good service, nice place."

  • "Fod was good but expensive. -- $16 for the "lunch double.""

  • "With such a great location, it is very disappointing that the food is lacking. The caesar salad doesn't taste like a Caesar. The mixed greens with lemon vinaigrette has no flavor. My bucatini with shrimp was extremely bland. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive."

  • "We took friends for lunch/ brunch las Sunday, and had another very positive experience. The food from the lunch menu, as well as the Brunch tables was great, fresh as always. The live Jazz ensemble is very good, without being too loud, and adds to the ambiance.. The staff is friendly and efficient."

  • "Redwood is aging and in some way aging gracefully. When I arrived, there was a "cocktail making" class going on. Everyone looked like they were having a great time!. Our meal and service was just fine. The wine list, however, is from another planet. I travel all the time and considering the quality of the wine offered, I don't see those kind of prices in New York, much less in a suburb of DC."

  • "As a frequent diner at Sonoma on the Hill, I was stoked to try out Redwood when I was in Bethesda. Everything was spot-on. The server recommended lots of tasty bites. We had the beet salad, potato + sunchoke soup (wow!), bucatini, corned beef hash, and split the toasted marshmallow ice cream + mousse for dessert. Every single dish wowed us. I even ordered a second bucatini to bring home to my husband."

  • "As in previous complaints at this restaurant the champagne on the menu the rose was not available, the bar tender brought out the wrong sides, these things happen but own the apology....jazz trio George and co.were excellent, worth coming to his place for brunch when you have all day to wait.Overall we had a good time the Olympic coverage made for a warm feeling.Food mediocre, brunch did not look that appetizing .Sorry chef just being honest."

  • "Great food. I love my tuna tartare and the steak. The wine was ok, although I wished they actually had the one I originally picked from the menu, but they didn´t have it. Service was good. However, the noise level was very high. So if you want to go as a date, it is not very comfortable, especially because you get to be seated very close to other tables."

  • "I made a reservation on open table and they were very accommodating even though we were 15 minutes late. It wasn't crowded which was a nice surprise so no one had to yell over each other. The food was very good and our waiter was super super friendly and knowledgable. I had been to Redwood before and I liked it enough to go back. I was not disappointed this time either."

  • "...did not disappoint! Service and food was A+. We were fortunate recipients of gift cards to Redwood and it was a lovely Valentines Day dinner. The gift of a red rose as we were leaving was a nice touch, too."

  • "Valentines day. Prix fixe menu. Four choices and all looked good. Apps great but who could they go wrong with micro greens plus either lobster ravioli of goat cheese croquettes. Mains disappointing and overcooked. We had quail stuffed with foie gras and a need tenderloin with some veggies. Wine list fairly priced. Cocktails were delicious."

  • "Great service and good food at Redwood. Convenient location on Bethesda Row and easy adjacent garage parking. The tables are a little close together, but not much to complain about. Would come back. Ask to sit on the side opposite the bar if you want a quieter environment."

  • "You can't go wrong with bottomless mimosas... We had an amazing waiter that litterally never let our flutes go bottomless. The food at the buffet was descent, nothing above the norm. Overall it was a good Sunday brunch."

  • "The food here was absolutely amazing and our service was spectacular. I found this place on Open Table when looking for a place to hold a luncheon for 12; it was one of the few places that would host a party of our size. So glad we decided to go with Redwood. Will definitely be dining here again!"

  • "Sunday brunch is way too much money for the food provided. Also drinks are not included which hikes up the price. The live music was sporadic, although very good when the got together for 10 minute intervals to play. The food quality is good, but not worth $25 per person."

  • "Excellent omelet station! They offer free table bread - homemade biscuits and croissants, you just have to ask. Also available is made to order eggs benedict, included in buffet price, just ask server. Service was good except a little slow to get us our check when we were clearly ready to go. Nice live music playing for Sunday brunch...not loud and obnoxious, just right for background music and ambiance."

  • "We went to Redwood for their Sunday Jazz Brunch. There were three of us and we all had the buffet. It wasn't as large as some other brunch buffets I've been to, but all of the selections were well-presented, tasty and plentiful. The omelet made to order was excellent. The fried chicken was some of the best I've ever eaten and had just a touch of cumin in the breading - delish! The vegetables were well cooked, but not mushy. And the desserts were awesome - served in small portions so I could try several different things. I didn't partake of the make-your-own Bloody Mary bar, but will do so next time I go there. The jazz musicians were wonderful, just loud enough to enjoy, but not overwhelm. All in all, a great experience!"

  • "We brought a friend for a small birthday celebration (there were just three of us). Each diner was more than happy with their food (one salmon, one pork roast, one scallops). Appetizers and desserts were excellent. Table service was just right -- just right on seeing how we were doing. The only problem was the noise. I hope Redwood will create a quieter space with no big parties. When ten or twelve people have dinner together of course they have to shout"

  • "This was my second time eating at Redwood and I wasn't disappointed. The Soup of the Day was to die for and the even made my fries extra crispy as requested. Their twist on things is just perfect, not overly done, just right for picky eaters as myself. No matter where you live in DC area... make a trip to Redwood. And yes our server was great, very genuine and attentive."
