Inspired by the giant Redwood trees near California's famous vineyards, Redwood offers 24 fine wines by the glass, as well as eight craft beers on draft and 100 different bottles of beer. The menu offers cheese and charcuterie selections plus
American bistro fare--from freshly shucked oysters to filet and frittes. The handsome Grand Bar --inspired by the Frank Lloyd Wright and Arts & Crafts movement-- serves classic cocktails with a great selection top shelf whiskeys.

Dining at polished wood tables offers Rittenhouse atmosphere at South Street prices. An outdoor beer garden opens in warmer weather.

  • "The menu has average American fare - nothing really innovative - wings, sliders, steak and mashed potatoes, etc. The bar was decently stocked. Although the drinks and food we ordered were pretty good, two of the large plates we tried to order weren't available (no lamb chops and no mahi mahi). The service was a little slow considering there was hardly anyone in there on a Saturday evening. The waiter was good-natured and pleasant although not the fastest. Seating on the banquets isn't the most comfortable because there are no footrests although the table is a high-top. Overall it was okay."

  • "We sat at the bar for dinner. We actually got there earlier and was charged the happy hour price for our wine and appetizers. The wings were messy, sweet, and delish. Flatbread was good too. I would definitely return. It is more upscale than Copa's, get for a happy that is not noisy. "

  • "We went there because they used to have a great bottomless brunch special that everyone raved about. Its now $15 for a pitch of mimosas or bloody marys and the food is mediocre at best. I would probably prefer to pay a $5 more for brunch and go somewhere with better food. Philly is fun of great food so removing bottomless brunchfrom redwood makes it lose the draw of going here"

  • "Went for Dining Out For Life; it was one of the neighborhood restaurants on the list. Looked at the website—looked charming. It is not charming; it's pretty much a bar with some tables in the back. That being said...the staff was lovely; the food was surprisingly good; the beer list was very, very long (great!); and inexpensive! My friends and I will drop in again."

  • "So glad a friend recommended Redwood! We had a group of about 14 people. They had a nice table set up for us in the back. Surprise - was also live jazz! We all had a blast. Everyone enjoyed their meals - and the 15$ bottomless cocktails were a smash hit! Cant wait to go back for brunch again :)"

  • "We were very impressed when we stumbled upon Redwood. The wine and beer list are astounding, and the food was incredible. I would eat ten orders of the Argentinean Steak Skewers. We ordered entrees, which were delicious and generous in portion, but after seeing the "small plates" menu, we will definitely be stopping by for appetizers and drinks again soon. It is in an ideal location and the prices were really reasonable for a restaurant located on South St. Redwood is definitely worth the visit."

Not only were our brunch items fantastic (beignets, chicken & waffles, & crab benedict) but the prices were reasonable and we indulged in a bottomless brunch consisting of mix and match cocktails with delicious sangria. I love the location right on south street, the service was excellent and we had an awesome time!!!"

  • "We decided to try the new Redwood when they published a Buy One Get One entrée coupon in the paper. It was only good for a Sunday or Monday Night between 5pm and 11pm. So we chose a Monday – during Happy Hour. This is the latest in the group of restaurants owned (or co-owned) by long time South Street resident and businessman Bill Curry (co-founder of Copabanana which is literally next door. Bill’s concepts are always fascinating but sometimes try to do too much and that is the problem here. As previous reviewer here said – it’s trying to be too many things at once.   • "Redwood functions best as a happy hour destination; the wine list was impressive, and our cocktails were the highlight of our meal. The food, however, was quite below par. Two of us dined on a fairly slow evening. One entree came out cold, while the other was not as described on the menu. Our server brought the latter back to the kitchen and returned with a properly prepared version. Unfortunately, even when it was made correctly, it was barely edible. Overall, the food was bad and overpriced, and we have no plans to return."
