Diner Reviews
  • "Went to the bar waiting for my guest. Ordered a drink, and the bartender was most friendly. My guest arrived. We were seated at a fairly small table, not much of a romantic seating, but ended up nice to have sat there because surrounding company was fun to dine with. The fish plate was excellent. My pork plate was almost room temperature when served. Music was quiet appropriate, not too loud. We ordered a cheese plate with some seasonal fruit to go. The waiter was accommodating in helping with the cheese selection by providing samples. Enjoyed his services. Perfect waiter! At the end of the evening, I left with a good feeling that that was a good choice to start our evening off. Thank you!"

  • "The food was good and the service was great, it was a loud room because of the high ceilings but the live music was great and not overpowering."

  • "The calamari, garlic mashed potatoes, bread and wine were all good, though we were very disappointed in the main dish. The fish was small and tasteless. We may only go back to this restaurant if we were seeing a show next door, but only to have appetizers and wine. Also, the band did not perform until well after it's start time and only played for a short while. We thought they would play blues, but it was more like jazz. The service was exceptional. It was as if all the servers helped each table instead of assigned areas, leaving us never without water or attendance."

  • "This is a very convenient place for a dinner or a drink before a performance at the Pasadena Playhouse but it doesn't come cheap. Entrees are in the mid 20's to 30's range - most is ala carte. A little pricey for food that is OK but not really great. But it is nice to simply walk a few steps to enter the Pasadena Playhouse."

  • "Music was good. Food was lousy. Service was almost nonexistent"

  • "We had a BALL. We sat right in front of the band and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. We are already planning to go back."

  • "I enjoy the food but the menu needs some new options. I will not be eating there again soon because I have gotten tired of eating the same old things."

  • "The new location is really nice next to the Pasadena Playhouse and we like this restaurant because of the great live music, however, we've never felt the food was outstanding."

  • "This is the second time my wife and I have visited red white and bluezz recently. The food is very good, the service is friendly and efficient, and the jazz was great. This time, we were here with another couple, and the live music made for a fun evening. Here, dining out can be an event. We arrived about 20 minutes earlier than our reservations, so we hung out in the bar, which is a friendly, comfortable space, with good bar service and wide screen TV's. The Pasadena Playhouse is right next door, which makes it extremely convenient for theater goers. Anyone who hasn't been should definitely give it a try, particularly if they enjoy live music (which can be a little loud, but were still able to converse without straining to hear.)"

  • "Their original location was much smaller, but it had an intimate feel. You were able to hear the music and live jazz while having a romantic meal. This new location is 3x bigger and the crowds are less considerate. We were there for 2.5 hours and tried to out-stay the loud tables, but they had more stamina than us. The food is amazing and the service is wonderful. Their open kitchen design is really neat. Although we will come again, we will miss the unique feel of the original."

  • "Bad first impressions from the off I'm afraid. We spoke to a guy at the desk who struggled to hear us over the noise (which became a recurring theme), who looked at us as if we'd asked him for one of his kidneys. He called a lady over who I assume was the manager, or his wife maybe!? We had booked a table. The place was half empty. Yet she again looked as if she was doing us a massive favour seating us at all. We sat down and ordered drinks and I proceeded to read the only menu on which I've ever been unable to find a single dish of interest on. The live act was absolutely average (but that's not their fault), however it was way too loud and located on a makeshift stage right next to door. We finished our drinks, paid the bill and left."

  • "Ate at this restaurant before the Theatre and had a great time. Food was innovative; sevice was prompt; wine good and priced fairly. Ambiance was pleasant until the music started and then it was too loud to have an across the table conversation."

  • "Went to RR&B for my birthday (Sunday 3/16) food, service and wine were all great. My wife wants to come back soon and we will."

  • "I want to like this restaurant because it's wonderful to have someplace to go and hear live music. But honestly the food is overpriced and not very good. One friends chicken tasted like it had been frozen one to many times. The other friend was served cold meat. The noise level made conversation almost impossible. Also the hostess was almost rude. No "hello" or "goodbye, come back soon". I hope this place can get it's act together but they have a long way to go. This was my second visit. If the third visit shows no improvement ....... sorry I won't be coming back."

  • "A fun place we try to include when visiting Pasadena. Music was provided by a quartet, guitars drums and keyboard. Also some vocals. Nice smooth renditions of some favorite classics. Our waiting person was pleasant and helpful. Nice wine list. Limited but sufficient menu. I started with onion soup which as well prepared and reminded me of occasions in les Halle's Chose salad for main course. My wife had crab cakes (very good) and salad. Her salad was accompanied by shrimp, mine with steak. We look forward to a return visit. The new venue is much nicer than the old one."

  • "A small but solid menu with good wine list. I love the new location although it is not as cozy as the last place. The service was attentive, the food portions appropriate...not too small and not overwhelmingly large...just right. I am not a huge jazz fan but I do enjoy have live music in the background as I eat and converse. The noise level was perfect. Music was loud enough to hear and enjoy, but soft enough to allow for a conversation."

  • "The waitress was attentive, and the food was generally good. But the band didn't show up, so there was no live music for my birthday dinner. However, the waitress spoke to the manager and he/she removed one of the charges from our bill, which we definitely appreciated."

  • "This is a fantastic restaurant and jazz bar. The live music was really fun, not too loud, and gave the place a neat atmosphere. The food was phenomenal; we had a excellent cheese-and-cured-meat appetizer, and the bread was delicious. Entrees were fantastic as well. The wine list is extensive (particularly if you don't mind dropping some $). We also ordered mixed drinks as appetizers; they were very strong...no skimping here! Service was excellent as well. Servers were friendly, attentive, and helpful. I highly recommend coming here to check it out! Next for me is to try the bar/happy hour"

  • "My family and I went for Sunday brunch. There were some excellent jazz performers including the jazz singer version of Walter White (Who was as good at singing as Walter White is at chemistry). I had the three cheese omelette. It was a bit pricey but very good. My better half had a turkey burger which she liked. The service was friendly; however, it seemed like they were slightly understaffed. Overall a good experience."

  • "Was disappointed that my comment (when booking the table) regarding two birthdays at our table was ignored. The restaurant wasn't that busy and it seemed they could brought it up to us when we checked in."

  • "Going to the restaurant was a great choice because of the good food, good service and excellent proximity to the Pasadena Playhouse where I was going to see a play. It couldn't have been more convenient. It was a bonus to have a friendly and efficient wait staff and delicious food. The only disappointment was that we came on a Sunday at 5 and the live music did not start until we were ready to leave, so the "bluezz" part was missed. The canned jazz was fine, but..."

  • "The food is way overpriced for what you get. I ordered a ceasar salad with steak strips. I received a pile of unchopped romaine lettuce leaves and a very small portion of steak strips. It was pitiful and way overpriced for basically a lettuce salad! While the restaurant is conveniently located right next to the Pasadena Playhouse, next time I will dine somewhere else. I would NOT recommend this reastaurant to anyone. My party & I were very disappointed."

  • "My wife wanted to take me out for brunch for Valentine's Day and suggested we go to Red White and Bluez. We went the following Sunday when they have a piano bar brunch. It was very quite when we got there but the piano player was doing her thing. She was very good. The service was great, the waiter very attentive. The food was very good also. When we were finishing breakfast the place started to get more patrons arriving. We plan to go for dinner sometime when they have a combo playing."

  • "Miscommunication with the server regarding actual cost of the Valentine's Day menu. Ended up being double the amount I expected! However, the food was quite good and the service was good. I loved the ambiance and the jazz band playing."

  • "Superb evening -- have been there six or eight times, always charming. Tonight's music -- 2 guitars with percussion, Classical Spanish guitar influence on jazz standards -- yummy. Meal was excellent and service was terrific."

  • "I was extremely disappointed! While the atmosphere and live jazz was a nice Valentine's Day treat, it was obvious that management was more concerned about jacking up the prices and capitalizing on the special holiday than providing a memorable dining experience. The food portions were laughable, extremely small, and not that great at all. Serving french fries in a fancy paper cup was an example of the cheapness. I paid well over 200.00 for a mediocre dining experience. I regret not staying home and preparing a romantic dinner, I could have done MUCH better!!! Seems management is getting lax and over-confident, as they have no real competition for live jazz...... I will not be going back!"

  • "I didn't realize the regular menu was not available. For $85, the prix fixe menu was WAY over priced. It was like new year's eve, gouging customers as they see fit. The quiche and caesar salad was a joke. I always respected this restaurant for fine quality food, but Valentine's Day was sad."

  • "Our experience was awful and very disappointing. The food is very good, but the service is just horrible. The server forgot my husband's drink order and also forgot our dinner order. My appetizer arrived on time, but 35 minutes later and no food, while customers around us were served. We were very upset and probably not go back. It is such a shame, the location of this restaurant is perfect for the Playhouse, but the server needs to go."

  • "I miss the old menu that red white and bleuzz had. What happened to the fried Mac and Cheese? The Steak and Salmon it used to serve? The steaks are tiny with not much else as a side. Red White and Bleuzz should have lowered the price as well with the new food it's serving. Before, the price was worth paying for the food it had. The host also needs to improve her ability to inform guests that thier seat is available, and show more of a hospitable personality."

  • "As a vegetarian who eats fish, I ordered the Caesar Salad. It was just an uncut head of romaine with dressing on the side and the dressing was unremarkable. My best friend considers himself a connoisseur of Caesar Salads and he said it was perhaps his least favorite ever. I should have gone with the other vegetarian options: Brussel sprouts or mushrooms with pasta. My family ordered them and they were quite good. The only unusual part about the service was they were constantly clearing empty bread plates so we had to keep grabbing new from close by tables (ones not occupied!). Honestly the best part of the evening was the gallery next door: Van Noppen Glass. That guy is super talented!"

  • "What an amazing place!!! My husband and I went in not expecting anything spectacular since we were thinking of a little jazz bar with bar food, but this was not the case. Our server was very polite and friendly and she was very helpful with informing us of all the different menu items! Our food was phenomenal and when I had the wine paired with the food it was amazing! They had a small jazz guitarist + Bass player = Wonderful live music - totally made the atmosphere! We will be back again!"
