A word from Redwater Rustic Grille - Northwest
At Redwater Rustic Grille we’ve combined a dining atmosphere on par with the best restaurants of Calgary’s downtown core, with the convenience of an ideal location beside the Foothills Hospital in NW Calgary. The restaurant's décor and design complement the vibrancy and freshness of the food, making Redwater’s beautifully illuminated space one of the city's hottest dining destinations. Burnished cherry wood, soft lighting and large red club chairs in the centre of the room create an ambiance of casual refinement. Servers are warmly professional and their enthusiasm for great food and wine is infectious. This northwest neighborhood gem is also the proud recipient of the 2008 Wine Spectator award. Dress is smart casual. Please note hats are not permitted and we do not have highchairs/booster seats or children's menus.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent dinner. All attending enjoyed their selections. The lobster taco appetizer was amazing. Service was also excellent. Will definitely return."

  • "Delicious food! Great service although, the staff had not queued in that the humongous leather chairs are too low and too far from the table. Our table of 4 adults felt like we were kids sitting at "the big table". Probably great for those taller people. There were other types of tables in the restaurant that were better sized in relationship to the seating so you may want to consider requesting these."

  • "The restaurant was somewhat empty even though it was dinner time. No complaints there as it would mean better and faster service. Not in this case. After the server took the order, he disappeared completely for the rest of the night. I believe he did come by to say "How is the food?" but there was no refills for water throughout the entire meal and the order for extra addon (prawns + scallops) was completely forgotten. I had to ask another server that was cleaning the nearby table for the forgotten order, which he brought in about 10 minutes. The food was average at best. Not to mention, my side dish (mushrooms) was not even warm. I would rather pay less and go to the Keg for better food and service."

  • "Four of us went for a birthday celebration and had a great time. Our server Jody was very attentive and our meals prepared by chef Jamie-Lynn were all delicious. This is my favourite Redwater Rustic Grill location. We'll be back for sure."

  • "Located in the corner of a strip mall within a 5 minute walk of the University oc Calgary campus, Redwater's modern interior is a nice surprise. The youthful, energetic staff are clearly well trained and service is friendly and efficient. The food is very good - I highly recommend the chicken taco appetizer, which was so good that I'm happy to return just to have them as my main. The only miss was the extremely uncomfortable wing back chairs. It's unlikely that the designer ever sat in those chairs for a meal, because they're horribly uncomfortable, and too low relative to the table. They're awkward to get into and out, and are too close to the table. This is the only issue preventing me from returning tonight."

  • "Grabbed a last minute reservation at the Redwater - great food - great location! Had the Kale salad and Salmon - perfection. Other meals at the table were Ahi Tuna, Lamb Shank and Pasta - everyone loved it!"

  • "Great taste combinations, fresh ingredients, short ribs melt like butter. Very good experience overall. A little pricey, but worth it."

  • "Lovely, tasty food at Redwater Rustic Grill although my quinoa was a tad salty."

  • "HI There, We brought our grandparents there the other night thinking it would be a nice place. The server had such a thick accent our grandparents could not understand what he was saying. They didn't have beer on tap and then the manager came over to tell us what beers they did have. he was not even sure himself, kept saying i think we have this one and i think we might have this one. very un professional! telling us that bottled beer a was being short shipped and how they can't control that, so un appropriate. Kept focusing on what he didin't have, i was almost embarrassed for this place. The attitude/character of the server and manager were very odd for such a fancy "looking" place. Food was good, but I was not overly impressed."

  • "Thank you for an absolutely wonderful dinner experience recently. I was going to order a different entree but chose the arctic char special instead. Outstanding! So was the steak my dinner partner ordered. We asked our server to please let the chef know how delicious our entrees were. Excellent experience all round. Thank you. We'll be back."

  • "I have eaten at many RedWater locations in Calgary and absolutely love the food. This location didn't disappoint. For an appy we had the prawns, stuffed mushrooms and the meatballs- so delicious ! I had a 8oz tenderloin with the chili butter sauce- to die for! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone- make sure you make resos tho!"

  • "I booked Redwater on Uxbridge (16th Ave) for our 20th anniversary dinner. I requested a quiet table in my OpenTable reservation. Upon arrival our anniversary was acknowledged and we were given a nice, quiet table for two and complementary glasses of sparkling wine. Very nice! The was food great (shrimp appy, seafood pasta, filet mignon and sorbet dessert) and the service excellent. Couldn't ask for more!"

  • "Food was very good - some errors were made by the kitchen, however, when brought to our servers attention he had the corrected immediately. Very noisey (open high ceilings) but seems to be the going atmosphere for resturants now. Will definitly be back and recommend to others."

  • "Service was a little slow otherwise very good dining experience"

  • "Ordered my steak rare, but it came close to well done. Shows the chefs weren't paying attention to what they were doing at all to overcook a rare steak this much. Veggies were heavily salted. Manager was nice enough to compensate half the price, but they should have compensated the whole thing."

  • "Would have liked to be able to have the music played a little louder.. think it was nice dining music but too low to tell. Otherwise a very nice dining experience."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "The music was very loud, but the staff were very accommodating and turned the volume down. After the volume was down it was most enjoyable. We have been here on many occasions and always been very happy with food and service. I recommend this location as well as Aspen and Macleod Trail locations all the time. We have never been disappointed!"

  • "I've been to this restaurant many times and have always enjoyed it. They've made some changes on the menu....not so sure I like the changes. The bruchetta was not as good as before and the vegetable quinoa could use a flavour boost, but all in all the meal was satisfying."

  • "Tired menu. Nothing appealed to us. Dark, but it hides the aging decor. Amateurish service. Waitress actually interrupted conversation several times to ask us how it was going. "How's it going. Oh, no worries". Went there against our better instincts, as last time a drunk lady had a very loud argument with her mother at her table that went on for 45 minutes, and no staff approached her to calm down or leave. They watched in amusement while this person ruined everyones evening. There's a reason why the Keg next door is packed 365 days a year, and this place barely fills one seating. Never again. Never."

  • "Requested a private table, got it. Asked for no ice in my water , replaced with very chilled water. Obviously, I don't want very chilled if I want no ice. Asked for a spare glass so I could have sparkling water, had to ask 3 different ladies. The servers all seemed to hurry around but did not take a minute to stand still or look at us , especially our server, she left after she quickly attended our table. No ketchup was offered, asked for it, very small, wanted more but our server left quickly before we could ask. My ravioli which was $17 or $18 was hard, a film of uncooked pasta , fries were not hot at all and seemed re- heated. Yellow tomato on sand. , SOUR, BADLY SOUR. Two clients who drove in from Edm.. Return, no."

  • "I felt the portions were small and I was still hungry. We came at 5:00 when it opened and there was a staff meeting or something like that so we sat with water and menus for quite awhile before our order was taken. We were going to find out about the basement room for my husband's Christmas party but decided it was probably going to be a good choice as they have some hearty eaters and would be hungry after the size of the portions. We figured the wine was quite impressive but that would probably be something that was pushed at a Christmas party so would be too expensive. I think we will stick to the Keg."

  • "Service very poor, food average, my beef tenderloin was fine, the lamb shank dry Noisy and had to wait 10 minutes to find someone who could retrieve our coats! "

  • "I have eaten at the Redwater Grille Northwest for both lunch and dinner, and must admit that the food is generally better at lunch. A group of us had dinner there two nights ago, and ordered the specials. The pork chops were a good size, but overcooked. The fennel stuffing did not add much moisture to the chops....perhaps it was not the best choice. Also, there was too much whipped cream on the desserts, which hid the small size. However, the service was excellent and the ambiance was nice. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for anyone with disabilities though, as the washrooms are in the basement."

  • "The ambiance is great as was the service. The food was so good we can't wait to return. Our group of four had four different pasta dishes. They were all beautifully presented and delicious. The bruschetta appetizer was great and enough for four to share. Highly recommend as a place for a special meal or just a casual evening out."

  • "Overall I enjoyed the food and the service was outstanding, however 2 in the group of 4 felt the portions were rather small. Also we had to wait for a very long time after the starters for our main course (about 40 mins). They were very good for gluten intolerance and the desserts were lovely."

  • "Redwater Rustic Grille is a favorite place for lunch with my friends. The menu features some delicious, unusual combinations and it is a delight to try the lunch time specials. Service is always prompt and professional."

  • " The food was well prepared and there were no menu mysteries. The wine list was good. i try to buy only canadian wines and this was easy at Redwater. Could have been a little quieter."

  • "Myself and 2 friends get together as each of us celebrates getting a year older! We try to go to a different place each time, so 3 times per year for about 15 years we've been to a few places. The food at Redwater Rustic Grille was exactly what we were looking for - nice tasty appies to share. Our server was amazing, wish I could recall her name, we really liked her. Only downside - the music got turned up almost as soon as we got there and to have conversation became difficult and to be honest, that is a large part of the 3 of us getting together - the chatting!"

  • "We've been going to this Redwater for quite a while now but won't likely return. The service has been going downhill. This is the third time the waiter appeared to think they were better than us and we repeatedly had to ask for water, specials and dessert menu. The topper this time was when we ordered coffee at the end of our meal and were told sure but there was no milk or cream "we are waiting for the order". Seriously ... you charge nearly $17 for a burger and you can't send someone across the parking lot to the corner store?"

  • "Weird chairs made it feel as if we never left the couch. Out of the four entrees we ordered, I would only consider ordering the chicken and risotto again."

  • "We very much appreciated being able to talk and enjoy the food for brunch. The service was good, although a bit slow in arriving (but we had time, so it didn't matter!). Unfortunately, the salt shaker didn't work, and as I tried to fix it (my mistake instead of asking for another), it burst open pouring salt into my soup thus making it inedible. Although, clearly my fault, it would have been nice to be offered another bowl!~ :("

  • "Took my parents (both of whom are in their late 70's) for dinner. The server was AMAZING! Treated all of us, especially my parents like royalty (which they really appreciated). The food was hot and delicious, our drinks were never empty, and our server even picked up that one of us at the table was gluten-free and brought warm GF bread to the table without asking. Spectacular evening!"

  • "We had good service and tasty food. Prices are high for most. Not a place to take a vegetarian. We had to make up a special meal for her by selecting several half sides from menu. Surprisingly quiet as the place was full. We could talk across the table in a normal voice. Washrooms are downstairs. Not good for seniors or handicap. Lots of stairs, 2 steps inside down to tables and 2 steps at upper level near bar, both without a handrails."

  • "First time at RG, to celebrate my sisters birthday. My medium steak was over done, then way under done, then over done again (Yes, that was 3 tries). My sister ordered the same steak and it was a perfect medium done. The hassle with the steak interrupted and took away from our celebration. The others at the table felt bad for eating when I didn't have my food, etc. A fellow came out (he did not identify his position) and apologized and ask if "they could get me anything else at all, so sorry for the inconvenience..." One of his suggestions was soup. I said yes to a bowl of soup. After all the hassle THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE SOUP! Not recommending this restaurant."

  • "My brother, sister and I took our Mother for lunch. It had been a while since we had been there. The restaurant was not overly busy. Unfortunately the service was not great. We asked for dessert menus and finally someone other than our waitress took our order. We were never asked if we wanted coffee or tea and for some reason it took quite a while to receive our desserts. The tart that we ordered had mounds of canned whip cream on it which sort of went watery as it usually does shortly after we received it. Fresh would have been nice. Our main dishes were pretty good with no complaints. But I am not sure I would recommend this restaurant. "

  • "I have been to this location and others several times. My last visit may be just that...the last. My food was below average (chicken somewhat dry), our food wasn't even luke warm (salmon and chicken - but can't send it back because on a time restraint), server mixed up the sauces, it was a very long wait to pay bill, wine was very expernsive!"

  • "The menu, food, location was very good. It was Mother's Day brunch and there were many older Mother's there with family's. I asked to have the music lowered as my parents are older with hearing challenges. They lowered the volume for about 15 minutes and then cranked it back up. We had to ask for the bill as soon as we were done eating so we could enjoy dessert in a quieter location."
